The two guys in bold are the only ones I'd keep. The guys in italics are players I'd package if someone was interested. I'm really disappointed in the Rutherford/Basabe/Adolfo/Gonzales/Sheets group. I thought we could get a couple MLB players out of those guys but it looks like none will make it. They're a cautionary tale of holding onto guys too long.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think Mitchell would have been a Mike Cameron type hitter with worse D had he stayed healthy.

Giolito's CGSO @ Houston the game @ Washington where Moncada homered from both sides of the plate. Lighting up Cole for 6ER in Houston was a good one too. Eloy 9th inning HR @ Wrigley

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade

Me too, but I'd like to fill one spot with a better option. I'd be more than fine with any of the top options on the FA SP market this winter. Cole, Strasburg,(pipedream) Bumgarner, Wheeler any one of those four plus an upside play like Alex Wood or Michael Wacha would be fine with me. Make sure you have depth. If Nova is ok coming out of the bullpen as the long man, I'd bring him back as well for insurance. -

I truly hope that the Sox realize that they have to fix their holes with money. My fear is that they still believe in Lopez enough that they're comfortable going into next season with Giolito/Kopech/Cease/Lopez as their top 4. There is still a metric shit ton of upside there and it's really easy to make that decision. -

Yes, you're correct. Betts is a pipedream. So is anyone decent on the FA market. If they continue to be cheap with FA, then Moncada and Gio are going to walk in 2023 and the Sox might have had one playoff appearance. -
I agreed with you.

If the Sox could have a do-over Harper would have been the better target.

It would take one of them, at the very least. -

I want them to get Betts next winter, but they absolutely can't afford to trade anyone from their farm system right now. Dickerson is what we get in RF for 2020. The only players I'd trade are those guys that look like they're teetering on never becoming anything, like Rutherford Gonzalez and Sheets. They're in a really delicate position currently. They have to plug their holes with only money. I'd be very careful trading anyone. -

Just wait a season. Dickerson is still a huge upgrade in RF. It doesn't take much to upgrade a -3.0 WAR. -
Thirded. I'm ok with it because Eloy, Moncada and Anderson finished the season on fire.
-
The correct answer should be a complete housecleaning from Ricky down but Renteria got ye olde vote of confidence. My answer is only Capra. I don't see Steverson going anywhere with the improvements that Moncada and Anderson made along with the in-season adjustments from Jimenez. I'm convinced Cooper is going nowhere until he wants to.

Yeah, Boras probably isn't going to let Strasburg sign until after Cole so someone who missed on Cole gets desperate. I wouldn't expect either to be signed until February. Actually, I wouldn't expect much to happen league wide until late January and February again.
-
If you're not expecting whales, then take Cole, Bumgarner and Strasburg off your list and replace them with Wheeler (who I know you like) and Ryu.
-
They're already there dude.
-
Didn't you learn anything from last winter dude? It's not Murphy's law. It's protecting yourself from continual disappointment. You've been a Sox fan long enough, I think you get it. We have to be the most cynical fans in baseball and that cynicism is well earned. I hope they make some moves but I'm not counting on it. Same thing I said last winter.

Stiever, and that's about it. Hopefully Thompson and Dalquist turn into something.
-
Some of us think its absolute insanity to believe that they'll actually pay up for anyone other than dumpster diving. In other words, I'l believe it when it happens.
-
There's not much out there for RF. Bumgarner is the only top LHP available for FA, and I have him going to the Angels or staying in SF. I don't trust them to spend money and I think they'd rather trade Vaughn or Madrigal than spend money in free agency.
-
You always need relief pitching in-season.
-
Who is Prez? Bumgarner?
-
Yes I agree. We're looking at Wheeler and someone like Alex Wood or Wacha at this point.
-
I don't want to move Vaughn either, but how else are they going to fill holes? It's either him or Madrigal unfortunately. They still suck at developing anything other than top talent. The farm is barren outside of Robert, Madrigal, Kopech and Vaughn. Maybe Stiever can take another step. 3 of them will graduate next year. Where is the prospect currency going to come from to fill holes via trade? We're going to end up like the Cubs after they traded Torres, Cease and Jimenez. It's going to be hard to fill holes where they pop up in season because the farm is back to crap. They HAVE to do better at developing players. Next year in the mid-season report they're going to be a bottom 5 system.
