  1. Yeah, it's different when a guy is 19 vs. 22. He should be in Kannapolis.
  2. Santana's had a good year, but he's not as consistent as the top 3 guys.
  3. I agree here. Smoak is an offensive black hole. The only thing he does is hit HR and walk.
  4. The starting point is 7/220 imo. Someone is going to go to 240, and if it's the Sox they should heavily frontload it. Like 45M the first 3 years and then go from there.
  5. Moncada has a game power issue. His raw power is off the charts but it doesn't translate to games as well as Robert's does. I think Moncada has the ability to hit 40+ HR but idk if he ever gets there. He might have a lot of seasons in the 33-39 HR range but never actually hits 40.
  6. This this this. Thank you. I don't mind him returning, but no more than 2 years. I'd rather have Abreu than Smoak btw and it's a fairly easy choice.
  7. 1B is a wasteland throughout baseball. There's not a ton of good players there. You have Freeman, Rizzo, Goldschmidt, Pete Alonso and a whole bunch of crap. EDIT: forgot that Josh Bell is good this year. I agree that there aren't better options than Abreu, but I wouldn't give him more than 2 years.
  8. Because they have a metric shit ton of trash i. Their lineup. Jimenez has been below replacement level and only Moncada, Anderson, Garcia and McCann are worth more than 1 fWAR. Yolmer fucking Sanchez has more fWAR than Abreu, and he's a consistent whipping boy.
  9. Robert has a 50+ HR ceiling, something that you can't say about Moncada. Moncada has a better grasp of the strike zone(higher OBP) and will probably hit for more average. It will be interesting to see which player fWAR likes better when they're at their peak.
  10. See that's what I was wondering. I think he should steal at least 20-25 bags though, but not more than that.
  11. It's more murky than that. It's kinda like they technically do and they technically don't.
  12. I'm interested in what people think Moncada's ceiling is. Personally, it all depends on whether or not Ricky lets him run. Moncada is capable of 30-30, if not 35-35, but he never steals bases, which is confusing. I think the sky is the limit for him and he can eclipse everyone in the AL aside from Trout. I also think he's capable of 8+ WAR seasons. However, should he never steal bases, he's probably going to top out in the 5.5-7 WAR range. I think he could be even better as a hitter. When Moncada gets a hold of one, the ball flies off his bat. He crushes baseballs. I feel like he should be able to hit 40+ HR but he has this game power issue. So anyway, what say you? I understand not running Moncada during a lost season, but.....Will Ricky run him during a competitive season? Moncada does have a history of soft tissue injuries so maybe that's why he doesn't run. This is a guy who stole 40 bases at every minor league level.
  13. Jose Quintana is leading the Cubs pitching staff in fWAR. https://www.fangraphs.com/teams/cubs I miss Jose, and if the Cubs are stupid enough to give into their fanbase and decline his option I'd take him back in an instant.

  15. They do, but they can't sign contracts for services until they decide to go pro. They take the role of "adviser" to skirt the NCAA rules on the subject. I'm sure the guys who go to college know who they want to be their agent, and they sign advisory contracts that pay a little extra of their signing bonus to the agents once they get signed.
  16. People complain about Abreu because it is obvious to everyone that those guys are garbage, and besides the point, they're roster filler until guys return from injury or get called up. Abreu isn't necessarily garbage, but he isn't good either. He's barely above replacement level.
  17. I feel like Cordell as a total package is better than Engel. That being said, he doesn't do anything as well as Engel plays CF so they value that.
  18. Yeah, the only way he isn't is if they sign Cole. He's been a notch above Strasburg.
  19. I'm not roasting him. He's really fucking good now, but a quality breaker would take him to a completely different level. I'm talking about Scherzer/Verlander territory. The difference between his dominant stretch and the rest of the season is that he had his slider working when he needed it.
  20. They have to land quality FA first. If they strike out again, Hahn and Kenny should be tarred and feathered as we chase them out of town.
  21. You don't think that sucking in the DSL has context?
  22. Giolito is a reliable breaking ball away from being an ace. I was kinda hard on him because he was missing spots badly. He still struggles with both his curve and slider.
  23. Yeah he's been a top 10 pitcher in baseball this year. If that's not an ace, idk what is. What is interesting is that the pitch that supposedly made him so good as a prospect (curveball) is non-existent now. If he could ever get that back....holy shit.
  24. Giolito will probably get to 200 K by the end of August. He has 194 right now.
