  1. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) How many of those guys had elbow tightness not because of pitching, but because of a batted ball? We don't know whether it was related to the line drive or not, but it sounds like it is a separate injury
  2. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) if peavy has a elbow problem that requires surgery that would be the worst scenario in many many years. Given the history of pitchers who leave games with "elbow tightness" this is the most likely scenario. The last 4 pitchers that I remember leaving a game with that listed injury were Liriano, Anibal Sanchez, Carpenter, and Wagner. They all had TJ surgery after their MRIs.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) I actually think History and National Geographic do a great job. I really enjoy those channels National Geographic is good, History has stupid ass shows like Monster Quest and the tin foil hat guys who look for things that aren't there, and people are supposed to be surprised when they find nothing. No s*** Sherlock.
  4. I think Contreras pitched well today because he did not drop down to the rightys. Whenever he drops down he gets hit, when he stays over the top he gets outs.
  5. I'm glad I'm not in KW's shoes because selling is a smart baseball decision, but as a business decision could be a disaster. I would have traded Dye for Alderson in an instant, however Sabean is a bad GM, and I doubt you could get that kind of return from another team. I kind of wish they would sell because I am intrested in winning baseball and would rather them let the kids play, just for the sake of change. As a fan, to me at least, selling makes sense. You have an old, over the hill team for the most part who are to be free agents after this year. Do you think Thome wouldn't accept a trade to someone like the Angels or Boston for a chance at a title? I would rather the Sox trade these guys straight up for an impact prospect than trade them for a package of B guys. But this is what I'd do. For some fans, selling could be seen as a big f*** you, we don't care about winning, we only care about making money. However, to me this is how the baseball dumb would see it, and the smart baseball fans IMO, should see selling as the correct baseball decision and a step forward in creating a new identity for this team, as well as moving toward consistent, winning baseball.
  6. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) In your post I responded too, you said keep Poreda in the bullpen because he doesn't have the stuff to start. Now your saying give him a shot like I did? He should be kept in the bullpen, because he doesn't have the stuff to start, but he got guys out after some guys had seen him more than once today. I'd only seen him pitch for 1 inning before today. You can give him a shot, but I believe he won't be any better than Richard, so that is why I said stick with Richard, plus the fact that I have seen Richard have decent starts before. There was a time where he had 3 brilliant starts in a row right before the Peavy deal, where he was pitching in the mid 90s with the fastball, (and as many different guns as I have seen show this, I truly believe this is legit) had a nasty slider and a good change. I've seen what Richard can do when he's on, and I believe he has better stuff than Poreda. In the starts where Richard has been getting shelled, he either hasn't been throwing the slider at all, or hanging it over the middle of the plate like today.
  7. QUOTE (kev211 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Does Buehrle have the stuff to be a starter? No you give Poreda a shot before you put him in the bullpen for the rest of his life. Buehrle is a special case. There is a reason he was a 38th round pick. I just don't believe two pitch pitchers can get through a lineup more than twice. How is Poreda a different pitcher than Richard? Yes, Richard isn't getting the job done, but I don't believe Poreda will be any better until he proves otherwise. After seeing Poreda pitch a couple of innings today, by all means give him a couple of starts. But who do we go to if he fails?
  8. Poreda is fine where he is on the big league club, and that is as the 2nd lefty out of the pen. from what I've seen of him that is the best he'll be is a reliever. He doesn't have the stuff to be a starter. Might as well live with Richard and let him grow as a SP because he has better stuff than Poreda does. IMO Poreda will be a worse starter than Richard if you can believe that is possible
  9. Where is this mid 90s fastball that Poreda is supposed to have? If he is going to throw in the low 90s with fringe-average secondary pitches he's going to get shelled sooner or later.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) What happened? Well, one thing is for certain. Danks is throwing way too much pitches and he's lacking that strikeout pitch at this point in the season. Seems he's getting a lot more contact this year and his FB isn't quite as lively as in 2008. The FB isn't his problem today, as he hit 94 on the gun for the first time this season after consistently pitching at 92-94 last season. That alone is an encouraging sign. However, he is missing over the plate with his changeup, which is his out pitch. He has an awesome change, but if he keeps missing with it he's toast.
  11. On the inverted W pitching mechanics topic, if, in fact, that motion of pitching is a cause of injuries, expect Strasburg and Crow to get injured and flame out quickly because that is their motion as well. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, and I haven't read anything about it, but everything I've heard about Prior's injuries said it was his mechanics. There always was that allegation that he was a steroid user, but the most notable steroid users in MLB were very healthy from an injury standpoint and two HOF caliber hitters who had their prime years in the 90s who are most likely clean(Griffey and Frank) had a long list of injuries in their 30s, while those who were roiders were staying healthy longer and extended their prime years into their late 30s and early 40s, most notably Bonds and Clemens. I do not buy that steroids cause injury problems. If that were the case why didn't Clemens and Bonds always have freak, nagging injuries, because they were the most obvious hitter and pitcher who used. I would lean toward the inverted W being the culprit of Prior's demise. On that note, the Nats would be high to give in to Strasburg and Boras's ridiculous contract demands. If the inverted W is an injury prone motion, he is an injury waiting to happen. Crow too. I also think that this motion creates the high velocity fastball that they possess. I wonder what their fastball velocity would be if they didn't pitch that way.
  12. If the Hawks don't turn it around soon they may end up as the 6 seed. Also, If they face Vancouver they probably don't win a game.
  13. I pretty much left the radio on The Score all day when I was on winter break, but don't listen much anymore because I'm doing schoolwork. I like Mully and Hanley instead of Mike & Mike because I hate national shows. I only care about Chicago teams.(minus the Cubs of course) They're pretty good too. I hate Waddle and Silvy because during the baseball season Silvy turns the show into a Cubbie love fest and Waddle does nothing to stop him. I turn off the radio between 12-2 during baseball season for the same reason I hate Waddle and Silvy. Murph is listenable the rest of the year. I hate the Afternoon Saloon because they never talk sports. If you're driving between 7-10 turn the dial to the score because Jason Goff is really good. Easily my favorite show.
  14. I'm starting to get worried about Quentin. His bat looks considerably slower than last year, which is exactly what I feared when he had the wrist injury.
  15. Manny is probably a juicer. I was watching a special in 2006 called "Flamethrowers" in which they showed every No-Hitter/Perfect Game since 1980.I was watching Jim Abbott's No-Hitter,and it was Manny's rookie year. One of the things that stood out to me is the Sosa-like transformation of Manny's body. He was about as skinny or skinnier than Sosa was on the Sox.
  16. If Abreu is only worth $3M then Dye is untradable. Nobody is going to want to take on Dye's salary unless the Sox throw in $6-7M in cash. And given the Sox stance on sending out money, Dye wil be on the Sox this season.
  17. If there's anyone in the Chicago area who doesn't want their Wii anymore and would rather have an Xbox 360 I'm willing to trade you. I have mostly old sports games(Madden 08, MLB 2K7 and 2K6, NBA Live 08), COD2 and an extra wireless controller, and a guitar hero controller(but no game) and a 20 GB hard drive I am going to warn you guys that I am currently waiting for it to return from a RROD repair from Microsoft. We could meet and make sure each other's system works. If anyone's interested please PM me. Thanks.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 3, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) Adam Katz and Paul Kinzer are his agents. Scott Boras has nothing to do with Furcal. Oh, I thought the last time he was a FA and he signed with LA, Boras was his agent. Did he fire him?
  19. I don't know why everyone is talking about the Sox signing Furcal. Four words: Boras is his agent. End of story.
  20. I want a Firesale. You keep Danks, Gavin, Quentin, and Ramirez, and build around them. Everyone else is fair game. Buehrle included. I think Ozzie will resign(I mean quit) if the Sox don't make the playoffs. Someone will overpay for these guys. Realistically, Thome will still be here because of his immense salary, But this team needs to be rebuilt.
  21. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Sep 18, 2008 -> 11:26 AM) Grass Hippie
  22. Oh great, Thornton. He likes to crap himself in close games lately.
  23. I don't think I've seen Juan have an AB like this before, even though he popped out.
  24. Like I said earlier this type of injury could kill Quentin's power and turn him into a doubles hitter, after a season in which he performs horribly after trying to hit home runs, he'd probably have to try to be a contact hitter. That really sucks. There is a great possibility that this year will turn out to be the best of his career. Look at Derrek Lee from the other side of town: when he hurt his wrist, his power disappeared. This is a repost, but I'm throwing it out there again.
  25. If Quentin's wrist is indeed broken, then this season will end up being his career year, unfortunately for him and the Sox. Using an analogy from the other side of town, Derrek Lee's power disappeared after he broke his wrist, and I would expect the same for Quentin. He might never hit 30 HR again, he'll probably end up being a doubles hitter with about 15-20 HR/season, which really sucks.
