If the Red Sox continue to fade, Papi will for sure lose out b/c he is a DH. I think the only shot Dye has at getting it is if we make the playoffs, b/c of the East Coast bias.

I don't think he can play in SF next year, b/c he is going to have a lot of trouble playing in the field. He's best served as a DH in the AL, and I mentioned above that there are only possibly 9 teams w/ an opening at DH

In all honesty, who is going to want him next year?? He can't play the OF any more, and would most likely serve as a DH. But of the AL clubs, about half are set at DH. White Sox: Thome Yankees: HGH/Matsui/Sheffield/Abrue/Damon/etc. Red Sox: Papi Tribe: Pronk Oakland: Big Frank (very likely) That leaves 9 teams, plus the Gaints. Would Toronto, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Kansas City, Minnesota, Detriot, LA, Seattle, or Texas sign him if he left SF??

The "ex-Cubs" factor is all a bunch of crap. There's no such thing. Look at the Marlins: They're making a run for the wild card w/ 5 ex-Cubs on the pitching staff, and a manager who used to play for the Cubs.

I understand, but the difference was in 2005, we did not rely on the home run. Getting Thome was supposed to add power to the lineup, but still keep the speed. This team was supposed to be the 2000-04 hitting, plus the 2005 pitching. To me, it's just been a better version of the 2000-04 teams. If we had this kind of pitching last year, to go w/ the offense we had last year, we'd be prolly 20 games worse than we are.
