  1. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 09:20 PM) For people posting about how they'd offer x amount for Hamilton, please explain how you'd make this financially feasible, as in fitting within a budget of somewhere between 100-110 million? If you subtract the money they were paying Youk and AJ then couple that with a trade of Rios, Floyd and maybe Thornton, the money would be there. I can't get on board with the crack/demons talk, I've read his book a few times and truly root for the guy now. Its been 6 years now and what has been his biggest problem in that time span?? QUITTING smokeless tobacco?? Highly doubt it happens but I'm def not against it.
  2. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 06:02 PM) I imagine he'd ask for MORE to play here, as he'll need all the money he can get to score crack. It IS the south side, after all...... That said, not worth it. Injury prone and didnt we learn our lessons with peavy/rios/dunn? Terrible post. I really recommend his book to all of you, it's a great read. I believe he's changed his life around for good.
  3. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) If we sign him, we still lose another #1 draft pick, I believe. I dont think teams are awarded draft pick anymore.
  4. If they can trade Rios for a 3B I'd give him whatever it takes. As an owner of his book I dont really fear a relapse.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Guys, Headley is untouchable. Stop intentionally sabotaging this thread by mentioning untouchable players. We were going off rumors, not just pulling big names out of our arse.
  6. OUCH! What a catch by Michigan. SMH, thats what I get for celebrating early.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 01:43 PM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Hunter prefers to play every day. Ten teams have contacted him, including #Dodgers, #Tigers, #WhiteSox, #Rangers, #Mariners. Anyone still interested in Torii Hunter in a Sox uni? How much money is he set to make being a 37 year old? If Rios or Tank are traded I wouldn't mind it, last year he hit over .300 vs. both LHP & RHP so thats a plus. I've been preaching adding only LH bats but I guess its moot if the RH bat can hit both LH and RH pitchers.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 10, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) Why in the hell would San Diego make that trade? This Hayes guy is so full of s***. Ya that trade looks incredibly unrealistic. All the Padres get are Gavin Floyd and the Astros #12 prospect?? Not happening. I can see the 3 way deal Hahn was talking about being for Headley though just not that deal.
  9. For 62 innings he had a 2.29 era, me thinks the loss of velocity is not that big a deal.
  10. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 07:06 PM) Thats collusion, veto. I sent an email to the commish to veto it but it still went through somehow....If he wins I'm not paying...Thats of course if I don't decide to pull the same s*** with my brothers last place team, something like Josh Gordon for his Victor Cruz will put me on par with him.
  11. Ya I just had one go down in my money league, between 2 brothers, such BS. Denarius Moore Rashad Jennings Brandon Pettigrew Andre Roberts for Hakeem Nicks Larry Fitzgerald Arian Foster Tony Gonzalez
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 03:49 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale The #SFGiants are confident they will be resigning Jeremy Affeldt, likely to 3-year deal. Could make Thornton more attractive should the Sox decide to move him.
  13. Another yearly name to throw out there who might come somewhat cheap but is a high risk player...Mat Gamel. LHer with a ton of potential if he can bring his minor league success to the bigs.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS #mariners have reached out to russell martin & mike napoli. also looking at corner OF bats. I hope they get one of them and Hahn trades for Jaso.
  15. De Aza on the block doesnt make much sense, the other bats Tank and Beckham I have no problem trading if they can get similar production from the other side of the plate in the trade. The Sox NEED a LH bat. The 3 way trade talk is very intriguing.
  16. Watching Meyers Leonard right now makes me regret not watching "My Illini" the last few years...Kid looks like a player.
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Appreciate the fangraphs link. I agree about the risk of investing in bullpen arms. Matt Thornton's current contract is a horrible investment, for example. He was great until he signed it. Since then, he hasn't been able to close, and he lost 10 games out of the pen this year. Still, I think if there were a more experienced "closer" available that wouldn't break the bank, he might be the perfect addition. We went into 2011 with Thornton as the closer, and that didn't work. We went into this year with Santiago as the closer, and that didn't work. Reed emerged, but is he really solid? Fangraphs rates him at 0.9 WAR, with Nate Jones and, ironically, Matt Thornton ahead of him. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 I would just like to see the Sox have a real plan. This season the bullpen seemed like an afterthought, and it cost us. I also think Robin didn't do the best job managing them. No surprise there..Like I've said in the past Matt had 2 back to back games (4 games total) where he gave up 9 runs. Past those 4 games he had a 2.29 era in 62 innings. I know thats cherry picking but, its only cherry picking 2.1 innings where he was bad.
  18. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) But then we have the same team again minus AJ plus Flowers? Ugh There should be a 0% chance that happens. Only 2 LH bats in the lineup should never happen esp. since 1 is the leadoff hitter.
  19. I really just want a LH 3-8 slot hitter at 3B. They may lose AJ so they'll be left with De Aza and Dunn as the only LHers in the lineup and I dont think thats a recipe for success. I really want another LHer at C too. Chase Headley, Matt Carpenter, Jed Lowrie, Mike Moustakus, Kyle Seager, and kinda Steve Lombardozzi fit the bill of what I want.
  20. Ya I just checked out his minor league stats, pretty brutal. Sub .900 FLD% is no bueno. He was 20 years old and it was his first year over here in the US so I'm not sure if that had something to do with it. Could it also be a smoke screen? It's pretty clear this team needs a 3B so we have no leverage in a trade involving one.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 12:11 AM) Chicagosports.com speculating the Sox might consider moving Viciedo back to 3rd base Can't be much worse than Miggy at 3B and you see where that got the Tigers.
  22. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 05:59 PM) What he only has 4 interceptions this year Me thinks it was a rape joke.
  23. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 11:10 AM) <!--quoteo(post=2723586:date=Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:28 AM:name=HickoryHuskers)-->QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 09:28 AM) <!--quotec-->A drastic, ballsy trade would be great, but it's hard to bank on that. As for the budget, I'm not so much concerned about the dollars on FA contracts as I am the years. You can justify the money that Josh Hamilton will get for 2013 and maybe a couple years after that, but that's going to be a terrible contract down the road. If there's a guy out there who will go for bigger dollars at fewer years, I'd go after him. Now we're talkin. What happens to the outfield if we get Hamilton? Tough ass question to answer. If we replace Rios' contract with his then we aren't really adding that much payroll, plus we get the Rios prospects. I think we'd still need another bat then. But we'd have at least an extra stud prospect from Rios to help. What about the TV $40M? Any news on how the Sox view that? Seems like a little insurance for a ballsy move. We have the pitching to make a legit run but does the brass see it that way? I posted a similar scenario somewhere on this board. Trade Rios for prospects, turn those prospects and some of our own into Chase Headley then sign Hamilton and call it an offseason. Payroll will jump a little bit next year if the Sox can resign Headley but the following year Dunns contract comes off the books and Headley takes over that kinda $$. I don't think thats too much of a pipe dream if Headleys truly available, which with Gyrko waiting in the wings and the $$ Chase is about to make, it would make sense that he would be. Getting Hamilton might be the bigger stretch as I'm sure some team is gonna over pay him.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 03:03 PM) He also struck out 5 times. As long as we are praising Dunn, check out his numbers with 2 out and runners in scoring position. It was only a year ago this very board wanted nothing to do with Carlos Quentin and his chance to make $ 8-9 million in arb for an .850+ OPS. Now they say you can't get an .800 OPS guy for less than $15 million per...... I was just pointing out the specific scenario you put in your post (runner on 3rd LT 2 outs). The difference between the CQ situation and Dunn is the Sox had Dayan waiting in the wings, at some point he needed to be given a shot. The Sox need a middle of the lineup LH bat to replace Dunn, you're not gonna find that in the minors or anywhere for cheap. If they can get a guy like Headley or Josh Hamilton who can be that guy and can trade Dunn for something of value then sure I won't complain. But if we go into next season with no threat from the left side of the plate I will be very disappointed. It would be pre all in all over again.
  25. I got Doug Martin'd and basically got doubled up in the talkbears league, 92-180... I hate having a s***ty team =(
