  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) If you have no dog in the fight, maybe thats the case. For those of us that have programs we follow and are actually competitive, College bball and football are awesome. College football is a ton of fun...I haven't been able to get into College basketball since the Frank Williams, Roger Powell, Robert Archibald, Deron Willinams, Dee Brown, Luther Head days of the Illini.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Are there any competent offensive players that could be moved to 3b ala Teahan? Wouldn't be out of the ordinary for KW to fill that role. Elvis Andrus?? Not exactly the power guy you look for on the corners but would look great in the 1-2 spot. Not sure Andrus would wanna make the move since he's a GG caliber SS though.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 01:38 PM) I think the Sox would be doing handstands in joy if somebody would take Dunn and his contract off the Sox hands. Do you all at least agree on that? Unless they're getting back a LH bat who has the ability to drive in 100 runs, hell no. We'll be back to pre all in where the sox were a LH power bat away from being true contenders.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 02:39 PM) The key to winning the division is winning divisional games which the Sox have a problem with. There are a lot of good minds on this site. How bout you telling me a formula to win such games. You can't be confident that this same team is going to have any better luck in the division next year. It figures to be more of the same. That said ... Does Hahn just ignore that issue and put together the best team possible or does he develop a plan as to how to build a team that is best equipped to win the division? Cannot he analyze the best type of team to win divisional games? The Sox I think we can all agree are going nowhere (over .500 anyway) if they do not build a team equipped to compete against KC, Detroit, Cleveland and Minnie. So what do they need to win those games?? That is the question. It seems to me Buehrle had a lot of success in divisional games. Do we need more crafty pitchers instead of power pitchers? Do we need speed rather than power?? I contend the key to success is beating your divisional foes and last year we were horrible against all but Minnie. This should be the emergency meeting plan at the Cell. How to construct a roster that will win 75 percent of the divisional games??? I don't remember your stance on Gavin Floyd but he was something like 7-1 with a low 3 ERA vs the central. So in this line of thinking keeping Gavin is a must. Santiago was good against the ALC. Sale as well. Peavy and Q, not so much last year. I expect Q to grow as a pitcher, and/or be traded. Peavy had a few games against the Central that really elevated his stats, but past those really bad starts he churned out a ton of quality starts. Had the offense not taken a dump whenever he took the bump it seemed he could have looked better against the ALC. Oh and as far as the bold statement goes....They we're over .500 this year weren't they??
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 03:43 AM) Eight bucks an hour for viciously difficult work. What are you going to do to put bread on the table in the future? Well as I've said before I don't plan on being a family man anytime soon. 450 a week would have been plenty to put bread on MY table. I got this job from a friend on facebook, another friend on facebook told me he could get me in at his fathers or one of his uncles trucking companies if I passed the written test to get my CDL...So my long term plan has turned to that. There's my 40k a year career job.
  6. S*it girls say to me .."I need some time before I date anyone. After being with someone for 6 and a half years it takes some time to get back into the dating thing. I won't even know what to do when it comes to dating, lol" ...3 days later...new boyfriend...haha my lifes a joke
  7. Let's make history guys!! Sign Mark F'n Reynolds That team will be in the history books forever!! Most Team K's in a season!!
  8. Considering Asik got 3/25 I think Taj at 4/38 isn't bad...Just hope he's making that money as a starter next year.
  9. Feelin pretty butthurt about the whole job thing so I went out and got me some Alpha King from 3 Floyds...mmmmm...I wish I had a camera so I can take a cool pic too, the label looks pretty sweet.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 01:26 PM) Man, that's tough labor. How can anybody pick up boxes for 8 hour shifts day after day? How much does a job like that pay anyway? Is there a supervisor around as well? There are some tough jobs in the world; that sounds like a tough one mentally and physically.I'd think you'd have to go to a 2 week Boot Camp to get in shape to have a shot at a job like that. It's 8 times a day with the heavy stuff, with some other smaller pieces throughout the day. My back was shot after the first 40 piece pallet. As I've mentioned before (when talking about medical marijuana) I have a bad back from rugby and just being overall a pretty big guy for my whole life. So the bending, lifting, then bending to lay them down really took a toll on my back. My supervisor was right there when I was doing it and saw me grimace a few times and I told him about my back and he straight up told me "This isn't the job for you, we don't want you getting hurt. This isn't going to work out." It only paid 450 a week (8 an hour with a lot of OT). Benefits after 90 days so if my back goes out in those 90 days I'm kinda screwed It wasn't that hard at all, my arms weren't tired nor was I winded, my back was the only thing that couldn't take it.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) The Giants support my theory. Thank you. Detroit hasn't completed the deal. They have all these high priced players who are going to want to win the WS. Had they won it all, maybe they'd have lost that edge, yes, been complacent and/or lazy. You guys deny the mental edge of baseball? You think it's not possible Rios gets complacent and lazy after last season? How does that Tigers team get any more lazy? Did the Bulls of the 90's get complacent after they won a title? Have the Yankees ever got complacent after winning a title? "You play to win the game"
  12. One with a left handed bat is the type I want...Headley, Moose, or Carpenter all come to mind as players who may be available.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 01:29 PM) I have no idea how you plan on us having a good team without most of those guys. Thornton clearly the most expendable, but each one after him gets very difficult to replace Depends on what they get back. If they got back cheap MLB ready talent for say Gavin, Rios, and Matt (3 of the 6 as the previous poster mentioned) then you can still put out a contender.
  14. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 12:06 PM) As in, done with the job permanently? Lol yes, my sad sad life continues. My back couldn't take lifting 40 75 pound airplane parts of the ground and apparently thats what the job is like all day. Boss mam said if youre back couldnt take that I'm gonna have to let you go before you hurt yourself.
  15. Starting my new job today....pretty exhausted though, I was told theyd be hiring for night shift so Ive been staying up till 6 the past 6 days to get used to that and then boom they tell me yesterday I'll be working mornings....I slept like s*** but oh well hopefully today I'm just observing
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 03:35 AM) They would have to move Cruz for that to make any sense. Who are they replacing Hamilton with??
  17. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Why on f***ing earth are they trading Moustakas right before he breaks out, when his value is low? God that's stupid. Quintana and Floyd, take them both. We can watch Moustakas play a GG 3rd with a 130 OPS+ and enjoy the hell out of it. Looking at their roster now, unless they really like Irving Falu, who looks like a good contact hitter but has zero pop it doesnt really make sense to me either.
  18. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Atlanta wants Headley very badly My question would be what does Atlanta have to offer? Is Mike Minor any better than Gavin Floyd? Would they rather have the unproven Julio Teheran over Q who already proved something in the bigs. San Diego has Grandal so they won't want Bethancourt and past him their farm team doesn't look all that great. Their bullpen is ridiculous though, they've got a couple guys who look better than Jones and Reed but not enough to alter a trade when the Sox are including a better SP. So I think the Sox can put together a better package.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 08:31 PM) Thrilled with the move, as I have a feeling the contracts this offseason are going to be insane. League's already getting 22.5 for 3 years from the Dodgers. I have to give Peavy a lot of credit, as he could have easily received deals for more years and money on the open market. I think we can officially state that the Sox won't be going into full rebuilding mode this offseason. No need to.
  20. http://news.yahoo.com/photos/hurricane-san...-202122035.html Link has 100 incredible pictures of the storm. Pretty intense stuff.
  21. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 07:56 PM) My #1 choice is Adrian Beltre. I heard he might be traded because of Olt. Oh ya he'd be nice too. He'd def take Rios+ to get and I'd like to keep Rios if possible. I'd give up Rios for Headley though just because he's much younger than Beltre and could be the face of the franchise in the coming years.
  22. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) We didn't lose the division to Detroit, we lost it vs. KC imo. That's the pisser. Which to go off my last post is why you keep Floyd around.
  23. QUOTE (Cali @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 07:14 PM) Doesn't matter where he's slotted he's weak mentally. Garland wasn't. He had inconsistent stuff, but I'd never describe him as a mentally weak player. Gavin has both. Stuff that comes and goes with sometimes multiple starts without having a release point of his curve or fastball, and--with no nicer way to say it-- a losers mentality. I like Gavin, he had a really rough late May/early June, eliminate that stretch and he's a sub 4 ERA pitcher and thats all I ask from the back end of the rotation. Gavin is what he is, he'll have a rough stretch of games and then he'll have a series of games where he looks pretty good. He's also pretty good against the teams in the division which is nice to have. ERA W L SV SVO GP GS CG IP H R ER HR BB SO AVG vs. DET 2.55 1 1 0 0 3 3 0 17.2 14 5 5 0 4 19 .219 vs. CLE 3.75 2 0 0 0 2 2 0 12.0 13 5 5 1 2 10 .277 vs. KC 1.23 2 0 0 0 2 2 0 14.2 10 2 2 0 3 8 .189 vs. MIN 5.94 2 1 0 0 3 3 0 16.2 19 12 11 1 9 14 .288 He gave up 9 in 3.2 in a game against the Twins so that really inflated his numbers vs. them. 13 innings 2 ER and 2 Ws if you throw that game out the window. Furthermore if you throw that Twins game out he's an ace like 7-1 with a 3.07 ERA. Thats a pretty good weapon to have as your #4.
  24. My "Big board" for 3B is: 1. Headley 2. Moose 3. Wright- I like Moose more because he's cheaper and left handed. 4. Arod at a discount 5. Youk at a discount 6. Robin Ventura 7. Brent Morel
