QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) Danks was a top prospect...none of those Sox guys are even close to that billing. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:23 PM) Floyd was the number 4 pick overall as well. true to both but i thought i remembered a lot of gripe about them in the rotation on these boards and theres no denying that there level of success was a surprise to most. So what im getting at his you never know when one of our minor league pitchers if given the chance will come up and have success at this level, but we wont know unless we give them a chance. Broadway was a first round pick and had success in his short stint in the bigs last year, i think he deserves a shot to take over for jose -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:12 PM) while we have a general lack of talent especially in the upper minors...there have been alot of guys at charlotte that have pitched pretty well....broadway richard whisler and haeger (especially as of late) have been pretty solid down there and may all deserve a look, but i think its gonna take an injury for any of them to get a shot...and even then it may be masset that gets the nod then again none of those names excite me, or are really viable options while we are fighting for the division Did Gavin Floyd or John Danks excite you when the first were plugged into the rotation??? Even though none of those really excite me i still think they can be a whole lot more productive then Jose, and any of those guys can come up and be a huge surprise for our team just like Danks and Floyd. I hope if jose continues to struggle we start giving these guys a shot. -
I was reading an article in ESPN magazine and it was speculating about big trades that may happen this season and it talked about the Angels, Red Sox, and White Sox as three teams that would look to trade for him. What are your thoughts on this??? Who will it take to get him??? Do we have the spects to get it done and even if we do would you trade away spects from a already depleted minor league??? If we do swing a deal for him do we get rid of Konerko or Thome???? Would you trade either of those to the red sox or angels seeing as they missed out on Tex or since theyre contenders do you stay away from those teams? I'd personally love to get him but only if we can get a good return from PK or Thome. The article stated that he was a Boras client and a free agent after this year so he'd be a rent a player that i think with this pitching staff and the hitting we already have in place would give us an even more legit chance at another world series ring. As far as who would they want well Chipper Jones isnt exactly the youngest guy around so i think them picking up Josh Fields would be a big part of the deal, but do you trade Fields for a rent a player??? Plus Crede is also a Boras client and its very possible that hes gone (i pray hes not but hes an All star and a Borass client so hes gonna be getting a huge contract and im not sure the sox will give him that) so who plays 3rd for us next year if we trade Fields?? our lineup would look something like this 1. OC 2. AJP 3. Carlos 4. JD 5. Tex 6. PK or Thome 7. Crede 8. Swish 9. Lexi that lineup with our pitching would be straight up sick but what would next years lineup look like with OC Crede and Tex all likely to leave??? Your thoughts?

You guys think he'll be in the home run derby???

Game was awesome, after joe crede caught a foul ball for the 3rd out in i believe the 4th inning he threw me the ball so that was pretty rad. My bro also got a ball that cox threw him but he gave it to a little kid. Speaking of little kids and cox.....I was sitting a few seats away from moose skowron, ya i know awesome right, did he do any commentary today because after the 1st inning he was gone but his family was still there. anyway back to what i was getting at after the 2nd inning cox pulled out chap stick and put it on and blew mooses kid a kiss it was kinda well strange lol. Then after the game i yelled out Octavio Dotels name and and he looked at me and i just waved and he smiled and shrugged his shoulders in a uhhh ok what was that all about kind of way. Oh and P.S. WOW the girls that do the mid inning stuff are amazing looking

QUOTE (Maxwell @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Don't buy any beer. You'll regret it, like me. this wont be a problem for me seeing as i don't turn 21 till the 12th of this month (if you see a big guy wearing a green shirt in the front row feel free to buy me some sort of birthday gift lol). Thanks for the replies......

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jun 18, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) If signability wasn't an issue, where would Upchurch have gone? I'd like to know the same thing.

IMO i dont think there should even be a discussion with the way lexi has been hitting.I think the only advantage Juan MIGHT have over Lexi is power and that can be debatable after seeing some of the bombs Lexi has hit. If Lexi continues to show he can hit we may have found ourselves a leadoff hitter.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) IMO, there are two possibilities for that role. Lofton or Owens. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 06:14 PM) I am FAR from an Owens fan, but if you a burner for the bench, we have that sitting in AAA. You may mean a speedster for the starting lineup, but as others have said, there really isn't a place for an upgrade right now. I believe theres another possibility, and tony youre right we do have him sitting in AAA and thats Dewayne Wise. BUTTTTTTT do we really need a 5th OF??? As far as the trading deadline goes unless some team offers you a ridiculous trade Id only look to trade Uribe.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 8, 2008 -> 12:38 AM) all i have to say is we're in first place. we may very well have a playoff caliber team if not better. why are we talking about trades that didn't happen? can't we just enjoy the present success? and if you wanna know WHY it didn't happen... you answered your own question - those guys are raking, they're all good. and paulie is getting older. it was a ridiculous idea for a trade in all honesty. Reddy I appreciate the response, let me repost this little section for you "now i know the sox are winning and im not complaining about this team at all, this has just been in my head for awhile and im sitting here working overnight security at a fireworks stand so i need somethin to keep me up so i decided to do a little write up and get others opinions on how sexy this team would be." also yes i agree it would be a ridiculous trade right now but in the offseason maybe not so much esp. before they got hunter, the angels wanna win and they wanna win now and if they would of picked up paulie in the offseason (when they thought he was gonna be another .270 hitter, hit 30-40 homers, and drive in 100 plus runs) they would have been ecstatic.

Let me start off by saying I haven't been able to post on here in awhile and I've been wanting to hear peoples opinions on this one for awhile now (well ever since PKs been struggling). Also I'd like to say this all "what if" happens before the Swisher trade. I wanna revisit a trade rumor that was circulating around these parts in the off-season. This trade im speaking of is the PK to the Halos for Kotchman, Santana, and Figgins. Now i know Chone has had his injury problems this season and the starting staff has been phenomenal (esp. Count who I'm ruling out in this post) but how good would this team have looked (when figgins is healthy) if this trade happened...Adding Figgins would give us that missing speed and lead off hitter. This then allows OC to go down to the 2 spot where he has excelled in and with the way he's hitting now would do wonders for this team esp. when Chone gets on in front of him. Once OC gets Chone into scoring position you have Carlos there in the 3 spot who's batting .424 with RISP. Then you get to move AJ lower in the lineup where he'll be able to drive in more runs and be more effective. Then you get Kotchman over Konerko which at this point in both there careers I'd take in a second(he's much younger, a better hitter right now, and just entering his prime). This also give you a well balanced lineup of and right handed hitters. R HR RBI SB AVG. 1. Figgins (S) 19 0 7 11 .306 (33 games) 2. OC ® 36 3 20 9 .253 3. Quentin ® 40 16 53 4 .290 4. Thome (L) 27 12 31 1 .209 5. Dye ® 31 10 24 0 .285 6. AJ (L) 25 4 23 1 .296 7. Crede ® 25 12 33 0 .286 8. Kothchman (L) 27 6 30 1 .312 9. Ramirez ® 14 3 12 2 .261 How good would that lineup look????? Then you look at the pitching staff which is already pretty damn good and you're adding what looks to be an ace in the making in Erving Santana to the mix. This ultimately means that Count or Gavin, who have been 2 of our best starters would have more then likely not been on the staff this year, probably Gavin in AAA for another year which probably woudnt have hurt him that much. Now lets say Buehrle stinks it up all year and we decide to cut ties with him next year and count retires, that leaves us with this next year. 1. Vaz 2. Santana 3. Danks 4. Floyd and remember now im saying this happens before the swish trade so we still have DLS and Gio (who are both doing horrible but thats besides the point lol) 5. Either Broadway, Whisler, Gio, Egbert, Haegar, or trading a couple of those pieces to get a proven pitcher now i know the sox are winning and im not complaining about this team at all, this has just been in my head for awhile and im sitting here working overnight security at a fireworks stand so i need somethin to keep me up so i decided to do a little write up and get others opinions on how sexy this team would be. P.S. Also tell me why you think this trade never happened, was there issue with who the sox wanted, a issue with who the halos wanted, or do you think it was just a BS rumor. I apologize if i just wasted 5 minutes of your life but it was 30 minutes well spent on my part lol.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 7, 2008 -> 03:17 PM) So lets say we sign Beckham, Danks, Morel all pretty soon. When is the earliest they can start in our minors? Do they have to wait until next year, or could, say, Beckham be placed in Great Falls or W-S or wherever next month? I was watching the Georgia game today and the announcer said Beckham was going to play in the minors as soon as Georgia is done with there season.

that was a great read chisoxfn, what position does howies kid play??? P.S. thanks for the account help man.....now i gotta change my horrid signature, what was i thinking?

According to my dad he heard a rumor on the radio that the sox might trade CQ for griffey jr. He claims it even came out of Kennys mouth. So whos the idiot my dad or KW for even thinking about this.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 8, 2008 -> 02:13 PM) did the Sox face Slowey last year? He's only pitched 3 innings in MLB this year hes 2-0 vs the white sox

not sure what the answer is but wow something needs to happen and soon, we are wasting good pitching. If this goes on for about another month then I'm gonna steal what was said a lot on the bulls talk board and thats play the kids. Lets get rid of some of our aging vets while we can still get some quality players back (build our farm back up). As much as I love Credes clutch performances this year id love to see him go even more, I wanna see Fields up here cause hes our future and from the looks of it we need to build towards our future. I'd also get rid of PK and then move Swish to 1st and put Jerry Owens in CF. I'd even go as far as trading Dye and moving Quentin to RF and then putting Brian Anderson in LF. Try something new at 2B either Getz or Richar (remember im saying do all this if the O still sucks in about a month, Richar should be back by then correct?). with all those moves id make the lineup look like this 1. Owens 2. OC (i wanna believe he'll turn it around) 3. Quentin 4. Thome 5. Swisher 6. Fields 7. AJ 8. Anderson 9. Getz/Richar on a side note while i was looking at the AAA stats where in the hell did Wes Whisler come from??? 5-0 1.26 ERA???

I wish i could seeing as im good at softball but sadly i wouldnt have the money

I was listening to AM 1000 and they said the Sox were gonna name there 2nd basemen, I don't really wanna look through this whole thread so could someone tell me....sadly its prob Uribe isn't it........ on a side note I really don't mind the 3rd base situation, ya never know, crede might light it up the first part of the season which in return would get us a bigger return when we trade him (if we dont trade him then i have a problem with this). Fields is still young and if he really is as good as he was last yeat year I dont think this will "stunt his growth" at all. I'd try to hire Ventura as some kind of AAA coach and have him work with Fields on his D while hes down there.

This is so crazy, it might just work! Naaah.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Mar 17, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Well, his range is such that even if his other qualities out of the 2B slot were all-star caliber, he'd still be a below average defender overall. He could have the best accuracy in the league on throws to second off of double play balls, throws to 3rd and home off of relays, etc, but his horrific range would cancel all of that out. This blogger retard didn't really think about range or anything like that, I'm assuming. You need stellar defense out of the C, CF, and SS slots, and to a lesser extent, out of the 3B and 2B slots. You hide guys like Josh in LF, RF, and 1B. I'll never understand why we'd acquire Nick Swisher when we have Konerko/Thome/Dye/Fields. How many subpar defenders can you afford to take on, especially with Danks/Contreras/Floyd as your 3-4-5? LOL. I dont get why you dont understand why we got Swisher. You said we need good D at C, CG, SS, 3b, and 2b. Swisher plays none of those positions. He plays LF, Kong plays 1b, Thome DH, Dye RF, and Fields plays 3rd. According to your logic, the only problem is Fields bad D at 3rd because those other positions are positions where you hide your guys according to you. Getting Swisher is the best thing the sox have done since getting thome IMO. -
