  1. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 10:18 AM) Vazquez for Milledge would be a complete steal for the Mets. Once again we don't know or appreciate the value our own players have. If JV had the season he had last year and was a FA going into the offseason, he would command some pretty steep dollars for 4 plus years. The fact that he is healthy and under control for 3 years at very reasonable rates makes him the most attractive player on the Sox from a trade standpoint, probably higher than Fields. Konerko could command a good package of players, but the market for him is much more limited. Crede is a health concern. Garland is above average and nicely priced, but only for one year. Fields is young/cheap and showed lots of promise last year, but he has still not proven himself defensively and needs another year of seasoning before people are convinced he can perform over a career. The Sox need Javy this year and should probably hang onto him, but he could be a classic example of Mr. Pratt's signature line. Trade him one year too soon rather than one to late. You could get a nice package of prospects (not one stale one like Milledge) for him alone. It would suck to do that to him, though, since he did sign a nice deal to stay with the Sox.
  2. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) I like Phillips.. he's been a White Sox optimist since joining ESPN. But sometimes he says very outragous things... Come on get both Hunter and Cabrera?? KW doesn't have the money or the minor league resources to make tha happen... unless he deals Konerko or Garland or Crede.... There are too many eager teams with the resources to obtain Cabrera diectly. I do not think Crede does much for the Sox in a trade. However, if the Sox are serious about a three-way trade involving some mixture of Konerko, Garland and Josh Fields for prospects, it is a real possibility.
  3. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Nov 12, 2007 -> 02:45 PM) he'll be signed by tomorrow.... Any reason why you think it will happen so quickly after the negotiation window opens?
  4. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 07:59 AM) Brian Anderson. I wish he had the audition Owens & Richar got. I think he got a pretty good opportunity in 2006, didn't he? Or are you saying you wish he had a chance to come up and find his way as a rookie without all of the added pressures of replacing an icon one year removed from a WS title?
  5. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Less intelligent, reasoned posts like this. More "I need this on the team right now and if Kenny does this I'm gonna show him by not watching any games next season" posts, please. I love those posts. Can you direct me to a few threads where I could find such posts?
  6. Ron Santo has made a broadcast career of overrating himself.
  7. The Onion could not have thought up something more genius. Great story.
  8. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Nov 1, 2007 -> 12:23 PM) As for shortstop, I don't like Uribe too much, but I'd rather have him over Uribe easily. No doubt, Uribe sucks. Now that other guy, Uribe, he's not bad.
  9. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 19, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) The one thing that I don't find makes any sense is how he came up with ARod's signing for $300 million for 10 years would get the Sox back that money 5 fold. My guess is Boras was his source for this "fact".
  10. If I recall correctly, there was a balanced schedule back then so it really did not matter from a scheduling standpoint.
  11. QUOTE(G&T @ Oct 1, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) Ours was across the street from the Daley Center. It wasn't that great. Block 37 or by the Miro "fork"?
  12. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 07:27 PM) My favorite is still when Mike Tyson said he was going to fade into Bolivian. Honorable mention has to go to Shaq, not so much for butchering English but for high level ignorance. Several years back he was in Athens, Greece, for an international competition. A reporter quizzed Shaquille O'Neal about his trip, asking if he had visited the Parthenon. Shaq replied, "I don't know. I can't really remember the names of the clubs that we went to."
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 26, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) I'll miss his iconic look. Someone get him tickets down the third base line I would say WS appearance, but there are too many Cubs fans who believe if not for Bartman, the Cubs would have won the whole thing in 2003. If Bartman won't go to games anymore, maybe a whole contingent of Sox fans could buy that section and show up with our headphones and eyeglasses.
  14. QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 24, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) Bag on Bradley if you want...but it's also's Winters job to keep his mouth shut too. Interesting to see who started talking crap down there...and what was said. If it was Winters...I'd like to see him suspended for a good month. MLB umps are just a little too big for their britches for my tastes. Be interesting to see what comes out of this. I agree that there are plenty of arrogant umpires in the game. However, how stupid is Bradley? The home plate umpire talked to him about throwing his bat and Bradley said that it wasn't true. How difficult is it to just leave it at that? He took his base and decides to start interrogating the first base ump to find out who is starting rumors. When the ump starts acting like a jerk, instead of ignoring him, he gets into it with him. His team is fighting for a playoff spot and is already down one starting outfielder (I believe they also were losing the game). His total loss of self control to the point of physically going after an umpire cost has cost him an entire season and very well could result in his team missing the playoffs. To me, that is the far bigger problem here rather than who started what argument.
  15. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Sep 23, 2007 -> 08:44 AM) Just watched the HBO documentary. Pretty good stuff. The 2001 World Series is definitely one of the best of all-time. Had a debate over on another baseball site I'm on about the greatest recently. I still think it was 1991, but 2001 is pretty good. Lots of people swear by it. 1991 was it for me. Morris pitching into the 10th in game 7 of the WS is the stuff of legend. The 1992 NLCS that ended with a play at the plate was as exciting a series I can recall as well.
  16. I like how he thinks the umpire should have to be accountable for his injury. Complete and utter ass he is.
  17. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Jerry is not about to fool my ass into thinking he's a legitimate everyday player. They're better be another plan in place. My memory may be off, but Owens's skills and progress as a player remind me quite a bit of a young Chris Singleton. I sort of recall Chris having a decent home run stroke, a little less speed, a stronger arm, and more refined skills on defense, but overall a similar type of player that the fans never really took to. However, he just gradually got better with the White Sox and seemed to be a student of the game. Never was going to be a superstar, but had enough natural athletic talent that it carried him for several major league seasons.
  18. How is it Wrigley Field was not at least nominated as the face of the Cubs? I agree Zambrano is a legitimate selection, but most Cubs fans are really fans of the park, not so much the players on the field. That has been true for the better part of 25 years now.
  19. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) I can't imagine any other team in baseball being willing to give him a 1 year, $4-5 million deal next year, can you? In this day and age? Most definitely. I think he could be offered multiple years, too. If A-Rod leaves the Yankees, I could see them taking a flier on Crede easily.
  20. QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) did Hawk actually say "Duck Fart" last night? You're daggum right. I heard it for the first time a couple weeks back when the Sox were playing the Tigers at home.
  21. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:32 AM) 95. And both are full of s***. By how many ticks, do you think?
  22. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) One way or another, Jose will be a starter on this team come April. His contract leaves us no choice but to keep giving him chances. The only question is...aside from Mark and John...who are the other 2? Are you assuming both Jon and Javy are traded this offseason? Javy would have to bring back a lot in return based on his effectiveness, innings, and salary.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 11:00 AM) Stone keeps hawk in line for the most part. He pulls him away from some stories and relates it to the game at hand. I wonder what prepared Stoney to do such a good job keeping a crazy old coot with a short attention span in line. After years next to Harry, shepherding Hawk through the broadcast must be a cakewalk.
  24. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) Stone appears to have done more homework on this team and its players than DJ Watching last night, I think the great chemistry was heavily influenced by Stone's preparedness. I never really watch the Cubs or NL so Stone's insight in those games past was somewhat lost on me. However, his knowledge of the White Sox and the AL was impressive and made for an enjoyable viewing AND listening experience. I really have grown tired of Hawk over recent years, in particular when he takes his frequent trips down memory lane. However, when he has a guy next to him with knowledge in the here and now, the dialogue is downright enjoyable and enlightening. I sometimes suspect those trips down memory lane helps fill the void of knowledge and preparedness that a color man should provide, but DJ lacks. I could take Hawk and Stone for years to come.
