  1. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) That could be part of it as well. The Sox are beyond and afterthought with the media. Usually on my way home from work I listen to ChicagoBaseBallTonight, and it's usually got JHood and DiFalco on, both Sox fans. They don't even think to talk Sox, and when they do, it's about how they never talk about them. Mac Jurko and Harry have also talked about how in production meetings someone will ask, "So, any Sox discussion today?" and no one will say anything, so it's all Cubs and Bears. Maybe the whole thing was an act, just to try and get the Sox back in the news. I was talking about it with a guy at work tonight. Williams needs to make a big move EARLY in the off-season. The money will be there for this upcoming season. I don't buy the article about there not being much. The seats have been packed for the most part this season. It's the drop in season tickets for 2008 which is the scary thing, which will effect 09. Williams needs to get a buzz going, and quick if they want to keep "competitive." It's imperative he grabs the headlines early this off-season. Getting rid of Williams will be buzz enough for me-
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:19 PM) I think you would see .270/.345/.470 out of Rowand... And I'd take that over Hunter anyday of the week. Or any one else we already have
  3. When Williams goes-minor league system improves
  4. Lets see, wholesale changes after 2005 didnt work, no changes after 2006 didnt work. There has to be some middle ground-but trading effective relief pitching just cant be done.
  5. This is clearly the most disappointing-I've been thru the awful 60's and late 70's teams. We were almost accustomed to chronic mediocrity then, always picked up name players on their downside that made it interesting, but we were going to games for a few dollars and it was an enjoyable experience. This bad team costs a lot to see, you have to wade thru countless ads at the park and hear bad canned music. I'd have to say yes its the most painful year, thank the Lord for the no hitter.
  6. Its not just this team, its the whole organization. There has been regular decline during Williams watch
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 26, 2007 -> 05:36 PM) I agree....but Rongey is just so ridiculous, it's insulting to Sox fans. Since arriving at 670 the whole broadcast has been ridiculous. I'd really be upset if I was critiqued by the radio legend Jason Goff
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) Someone started a thread on it like a week or two ago here...not sure it was even anything worth classifying as a rumor. It was an idea-
  9. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) Jose Contreras is not done. How about finished?
  10. I've been on vacation, and people there were needling me about this team. Its flat embarrassing and as I read these scores while out of town I could only think that this entire management group has lost this team. Underachieving is one thing-this complete collapse is another. If I see "Pride" on that scoreboard pre game video again, I will puke.
  11. I wish he'd have pitched him in-because he was just up there swinging
  12. How about NO Winter Ball-who does that ever benefit? Unless someone is changing positions.
  13. Its a "ststement" signing that KW is not rebuilding, I guess
  14. The Marx brothers are on HBO Comedy. If anyone can use some laughs
  15. I'm more glad than unhappy. We dont have to look for a rf now-if we end up w.Josh in LF-we have power on corner OF positions. Its relativly cheap-so there's $ for a CF upgrade. All in all, its a good thing.
  16. RICHMOND, Virginia (CNN) -- Two co-defendants of Michael Vick say the NFL star helped execute dogs that didn't fight well, according to federal court documents. NFL star Michael Vick after a court appearance last month. The court papers, filed as Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace pleaded guilty to dogfighting charges Friday, said all three men "executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in 'testing' sessions" in April of this year. Vick's co-defendants also stipulated that the money behind the Bad Newz Kennels dogfighting operation came "almost exclusively" from the Atlanta Falcons star. Federal prosecutors had given Vick until 9 a.m. ET Friday to accept a plea deal that would require him to spend at least one year in prison on federal dogfighting conspiracy charges, reports say, but there was no immediate word on what he decided.
  17. My question is who is evaluating the great evaluator Ken Williams?
  18. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 14, 2007 -> 11:07 AM) LOL There is some truth to that. There is-EVERYTHING at the park is sponsored. How much add'l $ has been generated by Scout Seats and Jim Beam club, the fan deck rented every night. The team is a cash cow-if you have to spend 5 more mil to have a major league outfield-it should be done. PERIOD
  19. QUOTE(StatManDu @ Aug 13, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) I think the only thing keeping DeBusschere from continuing his baseball career was that he was a great basketball player. His career got off to a decent start with the Sox in the early 1960s. While he didn't have a winning record (3-4), his ERA was 2.90 in 36 appearances (10 starts). He also may have seen the logjam in front of him: Peters, Pizarro, Horlen, etc. Years later, the Sox employed the reverse DeBusschere: Ron Reed gave up the NBA to play baseball. The last year of his career was 1984 when he led the Sox with 12 saves. Now, he'd pick baseball-but back then, salaries werent out of control and also 6'6 was good size for basketball then
  20. He's a left handed pitcher with an upside. You keep him
  21. Guillen must have some theory that the first pitch is most buntable. Otherwise, why risk successive games with the same bad strategy? We really need a better bench coach- I saw Saturday at the Griner bash that they have wireless internet in the clubhouse. Someone get Guillen a laptop please. I'll bench coach from home.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 6, 2007 -> 01:09 PM) I am having a hard time figuring out why someone would be so against having a player hitting 300 with a 350+ OBP 20+ HR's and 100 RBI's. You have a chance at adding 800+ OPS to your lineup you take it. Not to mention his daily energy levels and leadership and there arent many negatives other than his paycheck. Finally, a voice of reason. You read some of these comments and start to wonder if some slept thru all the home runs in 2005 and the key HR in the playoffs and World Series
  23. We hurt the Empire today-and Payrod didnt get it off us Great day for the pen-no one avail tomorrow-but a great performance today
