Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 10:22 AM) Honestly, the reason I'd be excited about Torres is that it might mean Moncada gets shifted to CF, which makes a TON of sense to me. Seems like a much better place to get the most out of a guy with elite speed and a plus arm but shaky hands and footwork. Give him the reps at the keystone before moving him to CF an infield of Torres / Anderson / Moncada / 1B? could be something special. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 09:50 AM) Yes, I am not trading Quintana and Robertson to the Yankees for a package short of Torres + Frazier ++ and those ++ had better be quality pieces This all reeks of the White Sox swirling the rumor pot to get Pirates/Yankees/Astros/Rockies/etc to up their offer There should be 5-6 pieces coming back for Q and Robertson Torres + Frazier/Rutherford + Sheffield/Kaprielian + Andujar + Tate/Adams + Sands/Perez -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 25, 2016 -> 05:02 PM) But really Lunhow and the Astros just really need to make a New Year's resolution to stop being freaking cheap. Such an obvious deal that benefits both teams that it should be done already. Hahn has been shopping Q among other teams, not he just needs to go back to Lunhow with the price and make him beat it. Kyle Tucker + AJ Reed + 1 of Musgrove/Whitley/Paulino/Perez + 1 of Teosccar Hernandez/Daz Cameron/Laureno/Stubbs....Astros can pick whichever 1 they want out of the last 2 grouping for all I care. Would anybody really be upset if we ended up getting Tucker, Reed, Perez, and Laureno? I sure wouldn't. I know it lacks the shiny prospect at the top, but I honestly don't hate the odds of us getting 4 regulars out of that deal. Obviously there is a good amount of risk as with any prospects, but we need an influx of position player talent and the Astros represent a good way to do that. Tucker/Reed/Perez/Laureno/Stubbs and I would say yes I would want one more additional piece since neither tucker or reed are top 10 prospects. -

To add one more thing if $ is the hold up. I would love to see Hahn take Antonio Bastardo back taking the pirates off the hook for Q's "big" contract; they'd have a 500k surplus from this deal. Q to the pirates Meadows/Bell/Keller + Diaz/Escobar/Hearn and a potential useful bullpen piece to be flipped at the deadline with the Pirates being able to keep Andrew McCutchen. If they're sucessful getting to the post season no worries if not at the deadline they can flip him to recoup some of their loss. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:09 PM) I think with the addition of Glasnow, you'd have to feel pretty confident in our ability to develop an elite staff within a few years as you mentioned above. If you can also get Bell & Newman, you'd also have the makings of an interesting offensive core IMO. I may be alone in this, but I'd consider moving Moncada to CF if we acquired Newman. 1B: Bell 2B: Newman SS: Anderson 3B: ? Michalczewki LF: ? Fisher/Call CF: Moncada RF: ? Basabe/Call DH: ? C: Collins Obviously we'd still have a lot of question marks, but we'd also have a lot of chips we could cash in between now and next offseason that could add more positional prospects to the mix. And it's not like we'd have to look for up the middle type players, corner guys should be much easier to find. While Meadows still makes the most sense, I think a Glasnow, Bell, & Newman package makes a ton of sense for us. An elite staff sure is exciting as well as a line up like this DH - Fisher* C - Collins* 1B - Bell# 2B - Newman SS - Anderson 3B - FA - Machado or Donaldson in the 18 offseason or Nolan Arenado in the '19 offseason LF - Call CF - Moncada# RF - Basabe # -
Has anyone had checked out their spotlight series on some of the sox top prospects? Alec Hansen Zack Burdi Basabe Tilson Moncada Kopech Fulmer Giolito

does anyone else get a Garin Cecchini vibe from Kevin Newman? I just have a hard time seeing him posting those numbers as he moves up with out power to punish pitchers that challenge him down broadway. -

Glasnow or Meadows/Bell/Newman or Hayes/Escobar or Hearn is a great haul for Q Diaz being a defensive minded 26 year old back stop shouldn't be a priority for the sox right now, focus on Collins developing and potentially getting a Kelly/Stubbs/Severino/Barnes/Plawecki/Swihart with a later trade of Jones or Robertson. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 03:15 PM) If Tilson is a starter, then our rebuild has gone very, very wrong at some point. I don't know he could develop into a Denard Span type of player and that would be awesome. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) http://www.dailyherald.com/article/2016122...orts/161229711/ No source provided, but speculation that the White Sox asking price to the Pirates is Glasnow, Meadows plus either Bell or Newman I love it. Keep the pricetag really high and force a team's hand. Quintana's contract is especially valuable given the massive free agent deals being handed out left and right. The key for the White Sox is getting the Pirates to agree in priciple for Meadows and Glasnow to headline the deal...and then possibly allow them to negotiate you down to a player like Hayes as the final piece MRW I see that kinda of speculation Glasnow/Meadows/Bell -

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 10:35 AM) Lol I'm going to laugh when Hahn gets Glasnow, Meadows and Bell for Quintana. Honestly I know Hahn doesn't want to "bundle" per se but I would be open to moving both Q + Abreu + MiGo to the pirates for a package like Glasnow/Meadows/Bell/Hayes/Diaz/Escobar/Hearn steamer projects 7.4 wins out of that trio Abreu - 2.1 Quintana - 4.2 Gonzalez - 1.1 and there is still upside with all three of them. Pirates would be adding about 20mil in salary for all three though. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:41 AM) Surprised that's all he could swing after a stellar second half. Obviously he may have taken less AAV for multi years but making less than Cashner in a year is somethin I agree, nice deal for the Bucco's if he does infact pitch like his second half. whats crazy to me is just how bad their rotation was last year Miguel Gonzalez would've been their best pitcher by fWAR; 2.7 to Cole's 2.5. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:07 AM) It seems to me that people are overrating what Bell really is...Bell, Glasnow, and Newman does nothing for me honestly. Bell is a below average 1B/DH who doesn't have even close to elite game power. I know he's a big strong guy and the power is supposed to be there...but it's not. Don't get me wrong, he's a nice prospect and should be a productive player. I just question how productive he's going to be for him being a defensive liability. I see him as a Brandon Belt type with bad defense. Again, nice player, but not the #1 position player we get back for Q. Has to be more. Bell is a 24 year old switch hitting 1B, who while he has demonstrated a mastering of defense at 1B is very athletic. power is always the last tool to develop and being a switch hitter that is even more pronounced. Not saying he is likely to hit these but Josh Bell’s Mahalanobis Comps are Todd Helton, Joey Votto, Ryan Klesko, Eric Karros, Travis Hafner, Dmitri Young & Carlos Pena. His discipline leaves a lot to dream on as well as being an athletic switch hitter and could become and above average defender at 1B. I think Glasnow's lack of showing a third pitch in the majors is a valid concern but all he has done is dominate. Newman even with his elite eye doesn't do anything for me thought. I agree with you though that there needs to be more than just Bell. Ideally its Meadows and Bell, Hayes and a lotto ticket. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) Exactly. Their rotation would be very good along with their lineup. Quintana, Cole, Nova, Taillon, and Kuhl/Hutchison/Williams is a formidable 5. Maybe signing of Nova is a sign that they will be going for it with McCuthen's last 2 seasons with them. Quintana and Jennings for Meadows, Glasnow, Escobar, and Diaz why are we giving away Jennings? Dunn just got $19MM with a fourth-year club/vesting option worth $6MM and a likely buy out. Jennings this past year alone put up .9 fWAR to Dunn's .3 and still has 3 years of control left and won't even be 30 on opening day. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 05:57 AM) Breakout year. 10 K/9, 3 BB/9, 3.10 ERA, 4.5 WAR. I'm with you on this one, I think this is the year he takes a huge step forward and also pitches 200 innings.

Also logical landing places for Abreu/Frazier/Cabrera
beautox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frazier to any of the mets/cards/giants makes sense and they all have the back half top 100 prospect and lotto ticket to acquire his services for a year. I think even if the sox land Bell in a deal for Q he starts at AAA until Abreu ideally delivers on his back half #'s (.319/.384/.514 - 142 wRC+) and then is traded to Boston as moreland and panda don't pull their weight pun intended. With Melky I think the sox have to eat all 15mil on it to get a real prospect back. -

The Pirates have agreed to sign right-hander Ivan Nova to a three-year, $26MM deal, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports. The deal contains a $2MM signing bonus. -
QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) 10 top 100 prospects... crazy. ....thats like 10% of the list.... When Jones, Abreu, Robertson, Frazier, Migo, Jennings, Melky and Lawrie get moved its entirely possibly we're looking at 15 of the top 100.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 03:17 PM) Anderson got hit by 1 pitch in 410 PA last season. By your numbers he'll have to get hit around 20 times to get that OBP. taking a page out of starling marte's book

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 11:38 AM) Dunning could be a fast riser and has the potential to be a $4 or #5 starting pitcher. He is far more than just a throw in, and could end being a very solid prospect. It's so refreshing to have more quality options in our farm system than ever before in recent memory. A Quintana trade would give us a totally stacked top 10 A Q trade could possibly bring our top ten into 10 top 100, depending where Basabe falls and what the third piece of said trade is, but its entirely possible.
