Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
beautox replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) Rank your trade partners: Yankees Pirates Rockies Rangers Astros Pirates / Rockies Yankees Astros Rangers QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:20 PM) Vicente: What kind of prospects Pirates have to offer to get Quintana? Dave Cameron: Would imagine Chicago would want some kind of package built around two of Meadows, Bell, or Glasnow, with some other stuff involved. I'm drooling if this were the case. Of the 3 there, which 2 would you choose? What other pieces would be included with those other 2? For me, I'd easily go Meadows and Bell with Hayes and Escobar as the final pieces. Although, I could see the Pirates be pushing Glasnow and Bell/Meadows plus others because Q would essentially replace him in the rotation. Luis Escobar is a nice looking lotto ticket if you're risk adverse to Taylor Hearn QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) I'm so on board with this. Mets get - McCutchen, Robertson Pirates get - Q, Dominic Smith, Nate Jones Sox get - Conforto, Meadows, Bell, Newman, Dunn That would be fair for everyone IMO. That deal seems terrible for the sox. Q should bring a sale like haul himself. Robertson a top 50-80 prospect and a lotto ticket possibly more if they eat some of his contract. Lastly Nate Jones while he won't get quite what the Phillies got for Giles will bring back a mint himself and is in a similar spot to Q where his contract is so desirable that teams pressed up against the threshold would love to acquire him than pay the tax and teams like Pittsburgh that are lower payroll would love to have him in the back end of their pen. -

I feel as others have said that this allows the pirates to have their cake and eat it too. They keep Cutch and trade for Q in a year in a half if its going south you can move both of them to restock. Having said that Meadows + Bell then fill in the remainder. -

I'm not that big of a fan of Newman would much prefer Bell. If sale is the outline you can make the case beause of Q's 4th yeah and afforability it opens up the market even more than Sale. Especially if all three of the Yankees, Astros and Pirates are all truly in on him. Moncada > Meadows Kopech Basabe = Hayes Diaz that return feels about right for Quintana. a near major league outfielder with some health issues that has returned, a switch hitting 1B that has questions with regards to his power but great discipline, a 19 year old 3b lotto ticket and a very intriguing left handed arm that has touched 99 in short stints with power slider. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 06:41 AM) Who would their 1B be if they traded Bell? Can't see them subtracting from their major league roster unless they have an obvious replacement. They could sign Chris Carter for cheap. I like the Pirates system a lot. Meadows / Bell / Hayes / Hearn sign me up. -
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 04:07 AM) You think he's gonna walk ~9% of the time? I'd expect a step backwards offensively unless he drastically changes his approach. His BB and K% were horrendous and he didn't hit the ball hard enough to make up for this, he got pretty lucky. I'll go .267/.299/.395. I think Tim will walk around a 5.5/6% of the time while getting HBP more than a few times that'll account for that OBP.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) Haha agreed. I would be pissed off if Quintana was dealt for such a poor return. I'd rather keep him than accept that package Agreed. In Jack Curry's video on YES from earlier he was saying Hahn is going to want the yankees top 4 or 5 prospects to land Quintana; sounds great...Also said its unlikely this deal gets done. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) One of these trades, we need to bring some catching talent back...particularly on the defensive side. Perhaps Adams or Tate as the third piece instead of Judge...if you can get Torres and Rutherford and one final flier (ala Diaz), that's about the best we can do with NY. Whatever path they choose, they need to look reminiscent of the potential 2014/15 Cubs in 2019. Rutherford becomes the pivot for the whole deal, depending on scouting evals. I agree the sox need to bring in some additional catching depth if Collins can't stick behind the dish. Ideally they're targeting high minor assets like Garret Stubbs with Houston, Carson Kelly with the Cardinals, Pedro Severino with the Nats, Austin Barnes with the Dodgers, Victor Caratini with in the cubs system or Tom Murphy with the rockies, failing that there are other interesting catchers further down the pipeline in the dodgers system like Keibert Ruiz and Donny Sands in the yankee's system. I think the deal starts with Torres and then one of Frazier or Rutherford, an additional arm like Fowler/Adams/Montgomery and a lotto ticket like Sands or Perez. I gotta say I love the Mahalanobis Comps of Carlos Gonzalez for Frazier & Edgardo Alfonzo for Torres. a future of infield of Torres/Anderson/Moncada just scream athleticism and defense. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) Yankees will never do that deal. You're asking for a ~top 10 guy, two top 50 guys and a fringe top 100 guys. Again, the Yankees aren't going to give up more for Quintana than the Red Sox did for Sale. I'm not saying Torres is off limits, but Torres + 3 others including another top 50 guy is not happening. Torres isn't quite Moncada, but he's damn close. So if the Sox are getting him back they are probably only getting a 3 player deal rounded out by a couple low end guys. I'm not opposed to that deal, by the way. The Yankees "low end" guys are pretty damn good. They have better players in their top 50 than the Sox have in their top 30 (perhaps an exaggeration, but the Yankees are truly loaded). Alternatively the Sox could accept a lesser headliner and perhaps get Kapreilian, Mateo or Adams as a second piece. Both scenarios are superior to the rumored Astros package (and I love Kyle Tucker), and I think more than an adequate return for Quintana. Torres isn't a top 10 guy, maybe by mid season but not yet. Rutherford checks in at #51. Kaprielian is a fringe top 100 and has health questions and Tate's tumbled down the rankings due to his time in Texas. This package may have more "top 100" guys than the Sale deal but lags behind in terms of upside while presenting more depth. If anything this deal is more like the Eaton deal with a tiny bit more tacked on. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 12:21 PM) Torres. Think he's got a higher ceiling, more refined hit tool. And paired with Rutherford would make me ecstatic. I agree, Torres and Rutherford as the starting point with Kaprelian or Tate as the third piece and Montgomery as the last sweetener and I'm sold. Charlotte's rotation would be very crowded. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 01:02 PM) Smart people can say crazy things. Agreed, but sometimes truth is stranger than fiction.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) But Bruce Levine said we could get Robles. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 19, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) I laughed so hard when I saw that article maybe not soo crazy.. from Dan's FG chat today Robles for Robertson...yes please.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Don't forget Jones, who's probably second most valuable after Q. and Abreu, with his son in the states it wouldn't be crazy to see him post a line similar to his second half .319/.384/.514 - wRC+142. It appears hes not going anywhere till the deadline as the market is saturated with 1B / DH right handed power hitters.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Beer left HS a semester early and played right away if I am reading this correctly. However, the guy is 20 years old already, so he was older for his class. Still looks pretty incredible to me, but we will see if he can live up to the hype. His swing and everything about him just reminds me of David Justice. Glad that their isn't a consensus and we will likely be in the top 3, but still would love to tank for #1 and have all the leverage.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 08:14 AM) I really think the Sox would consider a Martes/Tucker/Reed/Perez offer if the Astros won't dish up Musgrove if mugrove is the hold up I would love to see Martes/Tucker/Reed/Laureano/Stubbs -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:08 AM) I never want to see the Sox lose, but when there is a generational talent like Seth Beer in the 2018 draft class, I'd be ok if they stunk next year as long as they get him. Exactly i would bet the vast majority of Nats fans don't recall their s***ty season in '09 but will always remember Harper, even if they don't extend him.
-
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:11 PM) McMahon is the Rockies guy and yea, he's slid back. I'm still really intrigued by Gallo. That kind of power in a LH bat to me deserves an extended look, especially since he's only 23 (just turned 23 too). If the Rangers are really giving up on him I would at least explore it, the price for him could be shockingly low. I wouldn't be against shipping Abreu off to texas for Gallo, Mendez, Martin and Michael De Leon once it all settles, I think EE and Jose go back to Toronto, Trumbo signs with O's and the tribe reup with Napoli leaving the rangers holding the bag at first.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Not bad if we're trying to tank for Beer. Agreed need this tank job to go off with out a hitch for Beer. Sign Brett Anderson once Q and MiGo are traded. I see the M's are looking at the red's as a potential partner MiGo would've been their second best pitcher last year behind Paxton at 2.7 fWAR and is cheap and on a one year deal heres hoping the sox flip him for LHP Luiz Gohara & OF Brayan Hernandez. Rodon* Shields Hooland* Covey/Beck Anderson* Flip or DFA once all of the service time questions are taken care of for Giolito, Lopez & Fulmer.
-
Sign Holland and Anderson, keep Shields in hopes he finds it again and ship him out with the others if they do at the deadline if not they help with the tank job. Rodon* Shields Holland* Covey Anderson* with Beck shuttling between Charlotte & Chicago
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 08:56 PM) I don't think thats accurate but the buyout is only like $2 mil so almost non-existent regardless.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:31 AM) SOX SALARY OBLIGATIONS Sox have $35M on the books for 2018, only $2.25M on the books for 2019 - which is only the buyouts in Shields, Q and Jones' contracts. Obviously pretty likely Q and Jones club options would be picked up. Shields buyout is covered by the Padres. the '18 and '19 FA market should be very interesting provided the sox appear on track I would be all for signing Manny to play 3B even if in '19 the sox are .500, he would be 25 for the start of '19, and if not Manny, Nolan Arenado is a FA the following season at age 29.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) For what it is worth, Stubbs was outhit by Tim Tebow in the Arizona Fall League and batted only .171 in 20 games That just signals that Stubbs is far from sniffing the mlb level I take the AFL with a huge grain of salt, especially for catchers maybe he was just run down. Your right about the TEX league being an over inflation same can be said about the PCL but there are very encouraging signs in his profile. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) Martes, Tucker, Reed, Paulino, Laureano, and Stubbs. Anything less isn't enough. Force Lunhow to bend over backwards to get Q. If musgrove is off the table I'm not against Hahn going for additional depth and i'm not against him adding in a non robertson or jones arm to ship back with Q like Jennings, Putnam or Petricka I would love Stubbs as a 4th or 5th piece in a deal having him at AAA with Giolito, Lopez, Martes & Fulmer would go a long way developmentally and would afford the sox the ability to not rush the tank job in '17 for Beer. Stubbs' ETA lines up perfectly for when the pitching core should make the jump in '18 and having him spend a whole minor league season catching the majority of our potential future rotation would be huge. -
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) If the nationals would give up Robles for Robertson, those two would have been included in the Eaton trade. I think I would die of laughter if Hahn somehow pulled that off though! seriously if Hahn got Robles for Robertson...words, I would lack them.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:14 PM) I think someone who is widely considering the best defensive catcher in the minors sounds like a wonderful thing for a young pitching staff. Even if he can hardly hit his weight. SSS alert he was slightly below average in framing
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) DRob for Severino and Stevenson. Yes? No? Maybe so? would you take a hard pass on Severino if and go Steverson & Soto if the goal was to get the #1 in '18 with beer and bring Collins along slowly?
