Does anyone think Sheffield will free fall a bit possibly to 26 because some tag him as a future reliever?

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 29, 2016 -> 04:05 PM) I am not worried at all about Anderson now that we know what the basis of that "mysterious disappearance" was. He'll be fine, the biggest concern for me has always been his defense and from what I understand that continues to improve. In the end, I don't think he's going to be in the Sox org much longer. Other teams have things the Sox are going to want very badly, and Anderson is a chip the Sox can cash in for something very, very useful. Anderson isn't going anywhere after we moved Semien in that horrible Ynoa deal. Rollins is quickly approaching 40 and is horrid against RHP and Saladino while he hasn't been given a fair shake at the major league level appears to be a solid bench player, same likely fate for Sanchez. Anderson is exactly what this team needs a young cost controlled SS. Another bat will be a needed addition but with Melkys new found defensive competence in LF they can likely just pursue a DH / back up 1B and if the yankees continue to trend downward Tex and Beltran make a lot of sense for not a lot of money or talent.

Scout 1-42 draft rankings v2.0 I still think if Sheffield is there at 10 and Senzel is gone the sox take him, also appreciate the undersized comp to Stroman. Buddy Bell and Co really like Vandy as a program, as he said on a recent SSS podcast interview. Zack Collins listed at 20 on both recent rankings or Thaiss at 26 would be a nice get as the system lacks a future front line back stop. Bryan Reynolds is all over the board between this ranking and mlb's recent listing doubt he makes it 49 all though that is just 8 spots later then he is listed here. Ben Bowden at 86 would be a solid get as well keeping with the Vandy theme and with his recent struggles and demotion to the pen it doesn't seem too crazy to think he lands there mlb currently has him listed at 71. 10 - Jordan Sheffield 26 - Zack Collins or Matt Thaiss 49 - Bryan Reynolds 86 - Ben Bowden sign me up.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) I've been hearing that "relax" line ever since the 2000 rotation started to fall apart in the second half of that season...obviously, you don't idiotically run out and overpay, but you need to be more proactive this year (perhaps more than any other) because it has been 4 years since our last competitive team and everyone who followed the team through 2003/2006/2008/2010/2012 knows how critical starting pitching can be in the 2nd half. They were VERY fortunate to have Latos fall into their laps at the last minute for a bargain basement price, or the situation would be close to dire. Counting on Latos with those peripherals to recreate Loaiza's 2003 or Contreras' Aug, 2005 - May 2006 isn't particularly wise, either. At any rate, I don't think anyone in that front office is feeling a false sense of security about the starting pitching right now, or resting on their laurels. In the end, the ONE season we should have been able to RELAX was 2005 the final week, but not after having the --IT scared out of us the three prior weeks by the hard-charging Indians. Give credit where credit is due, Hahn did his due diligence and brought on Latos, no sox fan in their right mind is expecting him to keep up his performance but if you regress to his fip and xfip hes is more than a capable mid rotation starter which is exactly what the sox need. As you already stated they seem to be ok with moving on from dead money in Danks and a 5th starter isn't going to be what makes or breaks this team from being competitive. The offense is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 10:05 PM) But you can't have a repeat of 2003 (and Lip mentioned 1996, which I don't remember as clearly) where you lose 85% of the starts from the fifth starter. Kenny Rogers for the Twins (relatively cheap signing) was single the biggest difference in that 2003 season. Nightmares will result from reading the list of all the guys who had a shot to start in the fifth spot and failed in epic fashion, as well as in 2010 and 2012. At least we did manage to win the one Gonzalez start, but we've already given away four games in the Danks spot in the rotation. Just an incredibly reasonable expectation of 1-3 in those games puts the Sox record at 17-6, for example. Relax, the sox 5th starter will sort it self out in the near future, Fulmer's last start was very promising and he needs more time. Personally I would like to see Erik Johnson get another look at the major league level.

Schoenfield on the 3 areas the Sox need to improve

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2016 -> 01:46 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...-need-a-big-bat The bench of Saladino/Sands/Sanchez seems extremely thin for the moment...Sands is the obvious one who eventually needs to be replaced, as Saladino has to back-up the entire infield and is fine as a PRer as well as a defensive sub. Avila will replace Sanchez. Then the "big bat" comment for the 1,000,000 time...and the usual suspects in CarGo, Bruce, Kemp, etc. How long can Rollins, Avi, Navarro and Jackson last as nearly everyday players? Then the other obvious issue, poor Mr. Danks. Schoenfield notes that Turner/Johnson probably won't be much better. Didn't realize the 1906 White Sox "Hitless Wonders" put up a .230 BA and only 6 or 7 homers the entire SEASON. Just wow...talk about "dead ball" era. The 2000 or 2006 offense could beat those numbers in one game. I think the bench will be fine when it sorts it self out later the only thing I would like to see is a hitter that destroys RH pitching to potentially pair with rollins at DH if Avi doesn't deliver but honestly the sox have till early june to figure that out. Saladino/Sanchez back up catcher + 4th outfielder is fine. over the last 7 the offense sans Abreu has been turning it around. I don't think Rollins will continue to be an everyday player but if Anderson is healthy and turning it around at AAA he should be up near the deadline. I see no reason to believe Rollins can't be a productive member of this club against LHP .625/.700/1.250 vs RHP .208/.246/.283; If Robin utilizes him appropriately as a spot starter off the bench and as a pinch runner its a nice complimentary piece to have on this team. If Jackson just delivers on his career norms even with some lost range in CF we're looking at a 2.5-3 win player. A 5th starter would be nice if they continue to not trust Danks but the luxury with this start is that they can audition what they have down in AAA and there is a remote possiblity we see Fulmer in the not too distant future in the rotation if he continues to step up at AA. I would prefer the sox not give up much if anything on the farm and sign Hernandez and possibly moving Melky to DH, but with the start we've had they can take time to figure out the direction they would prefer to go. -
Royals just lost 4-2.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Apr 27, 2016 -> 10:45 AM) I think this is how I want those first 3 picks to go 10. Nolan Jones, SS/3B, HS 26. Zach Collins, C/DH, Miami 49. Matt Thaiss, C, UVA I wouldn't be against that at all. If Senzel is available at 10 I would love that pick or if not him Jordan Sheffield. Zach Collins at 26 & Thaiss at 49 would be nice because its a deep catching class. Sox have shown their ability to identify pitchers in later rounds at 86 I still think there would be a couple questionable but high ceilings picks the sox could push for.

I want a blow out for the sox where Smith can get an AB or two before his start. 8-2 in favor of the sox. -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) They're gonna keep Erik Johnson around today in case Latos gets murdered (Texas was scoring like 7 runs a game until they came to Chicago) and call up Gonzalez the instant the game ends. I'd almost guarantee it. The question I have is whether this is a spot start for Gonzalez to alleviate the wear and tear from 19 straight game, or the first step in the The End of John Danks. Maybe both. This seems very reasonable it also allows them to break in Smith some familiarity as a battery mate with either Johnson or Gonzalez. If Latos pitches well I think they give Johnson the opportunity to start with Smith tomorrow if Johnson gets used today then Gonzalez comes up. The more the sox can skip Danks with out putting a strain on the staff the better.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 07:49 PM) There has been a buzz with Coats, but IMO, he is due a crash. I think his BABIP is close to .500, and he hardly ever walks. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 08:10 PM) I agree with, he's definitely overrated around here IMO. Having said that, he still might be a better option than Avi. I agree there is a buzz about him, but Avi needs to get his head on straight, hes still young and might prove to be a productive bat but i don't believe it'll be with the sox. Personally I'm excited to see what Smith offers if anything and I want Saladino to get a fair shake at SS, putting Rollins at DH at least against LH gives you some additional length in the line up, just need someone who can mash right handers to compliment with him.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 06:24 PM) They gotta get Rollins off short more. He almost cost them today but he's left at least a half dozen plays out there this year already. Not talking errors but plays a good defensive MLB makes. Stopping that ball and then turning the DP in the Lawrie snag are just two examples from today. also special dumbass RV move of the day today letting Duke pitch to Beltre. I mean, ok, it worked out but that is playing with fire giving Duke such high leverage against the platoon advantage. But, a win is a win and although the warning signs are there for this club to sink back to mediocrity there are also enough positive signs to think maybe they are a 86-90 win club. One thing is for sure and that is that Melky is doing his best poor man's version of Mike Trout right now. He's putting it together in all phases. Worth .7 fWAR already if not more after today. DH is a problem but there will undoubtedly but many DH types floating around at the deadline. Just somehow get enough out of it in the meantime. Just feel bad for Avi he's overmatched right now and needs to see AAA to clear his head. His adjustments haven't stuck at the MLB level maybe they will at AAA. He's still fairly young but right now he's not a MLB hitter. Make him hit his way back. Agree with all of this. I want to see Smith and Coats or Sanchez called up and Rollins moved to DH giving plenty of looks to Saladino at SS.
