  1. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:03 PM) or maybe parents didn't put up with their crap. Uh huh
  2. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) ............ that's exactly my point..... Correct me if I'm wrong, but your implication seemed to be that extreme inattentiveness and hyperactivity is just "kids being kids" and not a legitimate disorder.
  3. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:10 PM) listen, i use hyperbole. it's my thing. BUT - yes, every kid is hyper. show me a 9 year old that doesn't, at some point, get on their parents' nerves and i'll shut my trap. and these days, since a parent will believe anything you tell them if it will make their life easier, doctors are able to "diagnose" ADD or ADHD left and right, even when it's not actually necessary. (again, used a little hyperbole there). Being occasionally obnoxious and getting on your parents' nerves at some point is not ADHD.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) i'm with the dad. he's 9 years old and not focused? what!?!!? he's a kid. That's what they do. Doctor's these days make so much money off ADD and ADHD because guess what? every frickin' kid could be diagnosed with it. There are diagnostic tools used (or that are supposed to be used) to determine when kids have these conditions. Not "every frickin' kid" is falling into the 95+% percentile of the results.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) Hey everyone, I am dating a woman who has a 9 year old son. He's a very intelligent boy, and he is a sweet kid, but he seems to have issues focusing on things he is supposed to (schoolwork, helping his mother around the house, etc.,). The boy's father has taken him to a doctor, who prescribed the drug Concerta for the boy. My girlfriend, the boy's mother, does not believe he needs ADHD medicine and is against him taking this or any other ADHD medicine. She is asking for my help and advice. I gave her my own opinion, but having no children of my own and no real experience with these types of meds, I feel like my advice is a bit limited. Anyone have children on these types of meds? Thoughts, opinions, experience, etc.,? Thanks IAM, If there are concerns about the kid having ADHD, he should be taken to a psychologist to have legitimate, objective diagnostic tests done. Based on the results, the psychologist can recommend appropriate treatment, including methods the parents (and you) can use to help with his attention issues, therapy, or medication. IMO, the dad shouldn't be able to walk into his doctor's office and say "My kid is hyper." and get a prescription.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) Hate is a strong word, but I am getting bored with it. It's too slow, there's not enough "gasp!" moments, and there's still zero clue as to how it's connected with the main story. I thought last nights episode was an A+ for the main story line, and a C for the sideways storyline. +1 for the hate train here. We get it...these people are linked/destined to meet up. That doesn't make every appearance of someone familiar (Hurley in the parking lot, Rose at the temp agency, Ben at the school) interesting. Stick with the island stuff!
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 10, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Emphasis mine LINK So God killed Murtha after you asked him to in prayer? You're under arrest for solicitation of murder.
  8. It was a Kate episode...you guys should have gone in with low expectations.
  9. QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 9, 2010 -> 04:02 AM) The review I read said that it was very much like the last game and the only great parts were the last 3 hours of it.. If it's like the last game, then it's going to be great.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) I dunno. 30 or so counts of accessory to murder might make one think he leans more to the "evil" side. Yeah, I don't think his ridiculous justifications about teaching people some kind of lesson about treasuring life by surviving mutilations are gonna be enough to push him into the middle. Half the people didn't even get a legit test or were killed because someone else failed their test.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I am talking price vs functionality. A Kindle does one thing... read books and it costs $489. The iPad is $499 (for the base model) and not only has book reading functionality, but video, e-mail, a better web experience, it has a calender, contacts, etc. Yes, the Kindle gets better battery life... no argument there. I can't argue that the Kindle isn't overpriced, but you should also take into account that it includes free unlimited 3G while the same on the iPad will be $30/month. That adds up.
  12. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jan 31, 2010 -> 07:09 PM) Federal laws do trump state laws, of course, but the federal govt. generally lacks authority under the Constitution to regulate a state's internal affairs, including but not limited to, its criminal code and matters of intrastate commerce. Its only where interstate commerce or some other federal interest is involved that the feds can intervene. But EVERYTHING is interstate commerce. "The government also contended that consuming one's locally grown marijuana for medical purposes affects the interstate market of marijuana, and hence that the federal government may regulate—and prohibit—such consumption." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzales_v._Raich
  13. Won't federal drugs laws still be an issue for Californians?
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 27, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) I think this device really has a lot of value for people who want a portable device, but don't want to shell out $1,500-2,000 for a Macbook, or wouldn't use most of its functionality. Wouldn't the alternative be a $300 netbook and not a $1500-2000 Macbook?
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 12, 2010 -> 02:34 PM) She is smart but ignorant. What makes you think that? If she was smart, I'd think she'd be a better BSer.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 11, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) If you don't want to recognize Gaylord Perry as a Hall of Famer, go right ahead. I'm almost in a agreement with you on that point. However, two wrongs don't make a right. And I don't look at the "Steroid Era" only in terms of the individuals that used them. It's a larger institutional problem. This is on MLB more than the users, but the users don't belong in the Hall, especially the ones that only made their mark by doing them. Better get rid of all the amphetamine users in there too.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 6, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) Anyone who is actually on the ballot fits that description. But... Pat Hentgen? He had one good season in 1996, and was otherwise a pretty much mediocre pitcher. Meh, these votes are surely just guys giving a friend or favorite player a courtesy vote. They don't really matter.
  18. Soon we'll be able to pay $10 for the "service" of printing out tickets on our own printer
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) What an odd place to post this story... Do Dems not believe in Christianity or something? I'd guess it was posted here because it was a conservative saying something stupid.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) I had never heard this theory before? Does anyone know more about it, or the arguments against it? Wow, that's sad for the history channel. This guy takes the age of the universe (13.5-14 By) and rounds it up to 15 billion, then pulls the exact number of 1 trillion out of thin air for his "time dilation" to come up with .015, which equals 5.5 days...which rounds up to 6 days. Ok then.
  21. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 24, 2009 -> 12:10 AM) Mayweather is such a b****. He had no intentions on fighting Pacman. He was waiting to pull this stunt the minute Pacquiao accepted the fight. Why is this unreasonable and how would having blood taken affect Pacman's performance? Are they going to take like a few liters out of him to do the tests?
  22. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:35 PM) The underutilized Thomson Correctional Center is in the small village of Thomson, Ill., 150 miles east of Chicago. Sweet, we get money to store them in Michigan
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 10:55 PM) over 2/3 all research depended on the initial temp data provided by that group and conveniently 'lost'. It's not lost as in "doesn't exist". The CRU got the raw data from various meteorological groups around the world, then they did all their work on it to get corrected or adjusted data, then they (stupidly) didn't keep the original raw data. The small groups still have the data. And they couldn't release raw data publicly because their contracts with the data collectors prohibited them from doing so.
  24. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) Who cares. What's the % of marriages that stay monogamous? Infidelity is something that's been around since the dawn of man yet we all act so surprised when it happens to a celebrity, athlete, or politician. More people should look in the mirror before judging others. I've never cheated. JUDGE JUDGE JUDGE JUDGE JUDGE
