  1. Russell Wilson now talking about playing 2 sports. Dan O'Dowd was talking about him as a baseball player a couple weeks, and he basically said his ceiling is a utility player.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Why do we always discuss Danks and act as if Noesi is any better? Sox have a problem with both of them in terms of being very effective. Noesi was able to limit the damage, but I think the shadows helped him out. It was his first start of the year, the team was 0-3 coming in, and it was the home opener, which is pretty much for a guy who has been waived twice to take on. Hopefully, nerves had something to do with his control issues, and he puts that behind him, because he won't be able to get away with giving up 2 runs with the walks, balks, wild pitches and HBP very often. They have Rodon in the wings. He is going to come up. They have seemingly set him up to make as few starts in AAA as possible while staying in their rotation. Another successful start or 2, it's hard to imagine one of Danks or Noesi, assuming no injury, will be in the rotation more than a couple of more starts.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Trading him could actually be the smart play though. Do you think people would go to a new stadium to see 1 star player? I'm not trying to argue, I've just never understood that sentiment. Rockies and Phillies could benefit from dealing Hamels, Lee, Utley, Cargo, Tulo. I've seen the excuse that the fans go to watch those guys play. I'd much rather have the return and the possibility of a better baseball team instead of going out and seeing a bad team play that has "stars" on it. I know it's a different scenario from Longoria but if they could get 5-6 players? I'd consider it. I think if you looked at trades where franchise players are involved, most of the the time, while you may get some slick prospects, your baseball team gets worse. The biggest thing your team gains is the financial relief. Longoria isn't making TB bleed cash. He isn't constantly injuried like 4 of the 5 players your mentioned. I think the goal of trading the guys you mentioned is to save the team some money, not to make the team better in the short term, and he is signed so long, he still will be there if there is another rebuild. Prospects are still maybes. Longoria is the one guy they signed of all the guys they have had come through. It's obvious the team thinks he is the face of the franchise. I think it's a pipedream they would trade him away, at least for anything the other side would call anything close to fair trade.
  4. I really don't know why a team trying to get a stadium built would trade it's signed long-term face of the franchise. Longoria isn't going anywhere. Thinking he's available is as proposteurous as the guy in Boston who thought the Red Sox were owed Chris Sale.

  11. I think Duke is overrated but 1 run with 5 outs isn't bad.
  12. I am so sick of LaRoche.
  13. The Vince Coleman way hasn't quite worked out yet. 2-0
  14. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) Dick I don't hink that was Boston. At that time Boston had a glut of SS/3B candidates and the Boston media felt Abreu would play 1st in place of Napoli. But several reports even tempered that by saying that was a temporary spot and they felt Abreu could be heir apparent at DH to Ortiz. Their scouts felt Abreu was a poor defensive player which supposedly is why Boston stopped the bidding at $50 mil. I bet those scouts were redfaced after last year. I can't copy and paste but Boston.com last year indicated if the Red Sox signed him they wanted him to play 3B
  15. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 12:37 PM) Are they wearing the 80s throwbacks on home Sundays again? If they are, not today. Regular home pinstripes.
  16. Apparently he is good enough where Robin would use him in an emergency or maybe interleague. I know Boston wanted him to play 3B if they signed him.
  17. Boos coming from the Shark tank. Coop will fix him.
  18. f***ing Robin. Abreu hits a Homer with a different manager.
  19. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) I'm curious about this as well, Flowers was getting booed to hell yesterday but Noesi threw like 5-6 pitches that didn't even reach the dirt. I'm betting Noesi was just terrible to handle yesterday. The one where the second run scored, people in the game thread where b****ing at Flowers but I really don't know what he was supposed to do. He got in front of it somehow, it still bounced away, but that was deservedly called a WP. I don't think Johnny Bench handles that one. Flowers sucks, but people are going way overboard.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) welcome to the best sports forum. 1. when the team turns this around, this will be a fun season. 2. Jeff will also turn it around, but he is still will go the FA rt. 3. i am wondering, has the team really saw enuf games during spring training? i know they really showed alot of the prospects playing, which was great, but in games.... i am wondering if the team saw enuf. I don't think there was a problem with sprimg training. Abreu hit over .500 and he is 3-14. Courney Hawkins was the spring breakout, he is 1-9 with 4 ks in AA. I just think they got off to a rough start and the pressing has begun. Besides, if anyone thinks spring training is the problem, you then can't project Sale having success since his spring was a lot shorter than the others.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) He felt he had no choice, but didnt exactly wholeheartedly charge either...he was hesitant at first. That isn't emotionless.
  22. QUOTE (black jack @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 11:26 PM) This team has taken the on the personality of their manager. Get used to emotionless beat downs. The whole AL Central is our Nolan Ryan. LMAO. And your Nolan Ryan reference totally contradicts the rest of your post. Explain if Robin is so emotionless, how he went after Nolan Ryan.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 07:35 PM) Payroll in 2012? Its a little bit of selective revisionism to say there was no talent and that he almost singlehandedly led the Bad News Bears to the postseason miraculously. Those managers all reached the playoffs multiple times and won their share of World Series titles, except Cox, who got Atl to playoffs...what, for 13-14 consecutive seasons? That is right, bit after 3 years, Ventura has a better record than Cox. Soxtalk would have wanted Cox fired. The team has no offense so it looks lethargic, but they aren't giving away at bats. They orobabky are victims of expectations and are trying top hard.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) I'm not starting another thread about Robin. What is about Ventura's time as manager that deserves anyone's support? He played for the team? He's nice and makes funny jokes once in a while? Again, I cannot prove he's a bad manager, but he's done nothing to prove he's a good manager. It really surprises me that people want him as Sox manager simply because he currently holds the job. 2012 the were in cmtention until the last week. They weren't supposed to be good. The last 2 years, blaming him is silly. If you have bad players, you lose games. Cox, LaRussa, and Torree all went to the HOF last year. They all have had bad years because of bad players. See what happens this year with Robin. Basing it on 4 games is like judging a prospect after 10 AB. People are freaking out, but when teams don't hit, they look bad, and they have only scored more than 1 once. They will come around.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) I should have prefaced it that I don't care about Gardenhire either. It could be anyone that Hahn hired on his own. So let's leave Gardenhire out of it and focus on what Ventura brings to the table right now. This is the Ron Gardenhire thread.
