Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 09:06 PM) Thome makes the important point that he was told "you are the DH" and he embraced it and excelled. The first thing Ventura did was tell the public Dunn will play the field more. Not good. They are willing to try anything. Dunn was told he would primarily be the DH when he signed. There were no surprises there. If you recall he didn't want to be a DH then when he saw the dollar figures being a DH wouldn't be so bad. I know the sample sizes were very small, but Dunn actually hit better as a DH in 2011 than he did as a position player. To make it seem like Dunn was coming into a situation at least partially unaware of what the plan was is incorrect and not a excuse for the near history making result.

Adam Dunn is not done
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) The main reason Ozzie disliked Swisher from what the media reported is that Ozzie felt Swisher was selfish for pouting that he was losing out on at bats to Wise while the team was in a pennant race. Ozzie disliking someone for being selfish and pouting while probably true is kind of funny. No one in the White Sox organization has been more selfish or pouted more than Ozzie since Swisher left town.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) I kind of got he feeling from listening to the interview that Jake basically has come to grips with he fact that he just doesn't have it anymore. I didn't get that at all. The guy was less than a year from major surgery. There were times he was dominant for a while. He was hitting a wall at about 60 pitches. I don't expect him to win the Cy Young, but it wouldn't surprise me if he winds up the Sox #1 or #2 starter next year. It won't be enough to pick up his option, but it may be enough to unload him at the deadline if the Sox have no chance.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:30 PM) Dude hasn't played for months. The only thing that I've taken from his performance so far is he has trouble with sliders. That's my point. I'm not going to buy all the hype that his workout tape was supposed to make, i)n 1994 Michael Jordan would probably have been able to make quite a workout tape himself, and if you threw him a BP fastball he probably could hit it 450), but his numbers indicate he should be able to play a little bit, and certainly if he were game ready, he'd probably be able to put up big numbers in the DWL. Also a lot of guys making big money have problems with sliders.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 01:24 PM) Thibs >>>> Doug Collins Perhaps, especially for the long haul, but if you have been awful for a while, Collins' brain is one you may want to pick. He has a knack of making historically terrible teams at least playoff teams. His act may or may not get old quickly, but if I'm running the Bucks or the T Wolves, I'd hire him in a heartbeat to coach and if he doesn't want to do that anymore or gets sick of it, make him the GM, and/or team President. I always loved when he was coaching the Bulls that when the game was over, he looked like he just played 48 minutes. He would be soaked in sweat. He teaches guys how to win.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 02:19 PM) My quick judgments based of Cepedes in the DWL right now tell me I want Soler more, but I would honestly be happy with either one. These guys would be perfect for us. If the few ABs Cepedes is getting in the DWL is dropping his price by millions and making it more likely the Sox have a shot at him, I hope he fans every time up. How anyone could put that much into these few ABs would amaze me, and I hope every organization except the Sox does. I'm with you, I'd prefer both, but either one would be fine.

Time for Soler thread...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2012 -> 12:10 PM) Well, we don't have the usual "keep him away from Walker as long as possible" posts to worry about this season. There's that. Supposedly, Cespedes hasn't played under the lights in 10 months, that was his excuse basically for the 3 strikeout game. I wouldn't be too down on him for 10 AB just like I wouldn't be too excited and offer him double what I was going to offer him if he had hit 5 homers these same 10 AB. You have to trust your scouts or get rid of them. If they say he can play right away or if they say he has holes, you offer accordingly and don't worry about anything else.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) Peavy is 110% talk. So is Ozzie. Remember when he "benched" Rios for loafing? And Oney is an Ozzie clone mouth-wise. It will be interesting to see the response. Just keep in mind Ozzie didn't just leave with 2 games to go. He was under contract for 2012, but that wasn't good enough for him.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
Say what you want about Doug Collins, but he's just made another unwatchable team watchable again. I don't know if Krause and JR were incorrect about his ability to take a team from point B to point C, but is there anyone better taking a team from point A to point B? The Bulls he had Jordan, but Detroit, Washington and now Philadelphia were garbage when he took over.

Official 2011-2012 NCAA Football Thread
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) Well, no one knows anything about it yet. The Iowa City police know enough to say he won't be charged with anything. That doesn't necessarily mean he didn't do something he shouldn't have done but it could also be an indication something went on that was consensual that the girl regretted later on. That's the jist of my first post. Supposedly it happens quite often.

Peavy vs Ozzie
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 08:26 PM) I'm sure that Cowley will be sticking up for Ozzie soon and bashing Peavy. Joe has already painted himself in the corner putting Peavy on his all man team and saying the issues Peavy had were with Cooper. The more that comes out, the more uninformed Joseph becomes. He'll tweet the White Sox beat writers know the truth crap. Too bad he doesn't. Oney reporting not a lot of people like Jake and Ozzie doesn't start fights he justs finishes them. Also wonders why people don't just let Ozzie be. Coming from the guy that went after Teahen's wife, its priceless.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 14, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) Sexual assault investigation. He's not being charged with anything. I know a Chicago detective who tells me you wouldn't believe the number of women who come into police stations on Saturday and Sunday mornings claiming to have been sexually assaulted. He said 99% of the time they leave without pursuing it as they realize that just because now they regret what happened, at the time it happened it was consensual. If Coker actually sexually assaulted someone, I hope he would be fully prosecuted and punished, but I think there's a good chance he's a victim here and instead of continuing in Iowa City with this thing over him, he's better off somewhere else.

2011-2012 NBA Season Thread
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) 11-2 Reading posts about the Bulls there is no way you would be able to conclude they would be anywhere near 11-2 with their back to back to back out of the way and 9 road games, and without Hamilton most of the time, and without Rose for a game. Some around here, if the truly are Bulls fans, need to quit nitpicking and enjoy.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 13, 2012 -> 06:42 AM) There was a big rumor in TOR they actually made the whole thing about DARVISH up to cover themselves with fans, that there in actuality had not been a legitimate attempt to get him and that the actual bidding number was nowhere in the vicinity of the Rangers. The guy went from done deal press conference to Sox have medical concerns to Toronto ownership calls it offbecause of financial reasons. It was always BS.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 12, 2012 -> 09:43 PM) That's interesting. Floyd certainly wouldn't have put much of a dent in their payroll. I have to imagine they're not willing to spend money AND give up talent for a guy that might improve them by one or two wins at best. They're just in the wrong division. I think the entire thing was BS to begin with. They were willing to spend money on Darvish, so I'm pretty sure the guy's explanation is some more BS to cover his previous BS.

2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion
I don't understand the people who think extending Danks is stupid and putting a damper on the "rebuild", but signing this guy, who is the same age or older would be exactly how you go about rebuilding. Isn't the ultimate goal to have as many good players as possible? I'm all for signing the guy, but I really wonder how good he is if he'll have to go to the minors at his age. Certainly not worth the money they have been talking.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
Lucky or smart or both, JR bought the Bulls the Carleton Sheets way, no money down. George Steinbrenner and Co. wanted out so badly, they basically handed the keys to JR in exchange for assuming some debt, and that was with Michael Jordan on the roster. I wouldn't mind one of my investments working out like that.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) The NBA also has twice as many playoff teams. And it doesn't take as many good players to make you a playoff team in the NBA. After their 6th championship, the Bulls had the worst 3 or 4 year run winning percentage-wise in NBA history. They got lucky getting Rose. I really don't understand the people who want the Sox to be an all prospect team. They must really love having things to complain about.

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (The Critic @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 10:29 AM) Zambrano is super-sensitive and Ozzie loves to push buttons. Sooner or later they will collide. If Zambrano wants to continue pitching, he better play nice in Miami. If he has more outbursts playing for Ozzie and doesn't perform, his career is over. Of course, he did retire last year for a few minutes. Maybe he wouldn't care.

Ruskell as the GM is gaining some steam. If he's hired, the press conference was all garbage. As Geddy Lee has been known to belt out, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

On MLB Network yesterday, Heyman made it seem like this guy is a lock for Miami and he's going to get between $50 million and $60 million.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:58 PM) I'm a proponent of fWAR like most, and he put up a 3.6 last year. 4.3 and 4.5 in the previous two seasons. At the end of the day, Floyd finishes the last 3 seasons around .500 with an ERA over 4.00. The days of 4.37 being a decent ERA are over. I doubt the Sox really want to pay him $9.5 million next year and realized Danks wasn't going to bring back what they were asking so Floyd probably won't next year either. Since they already signed Danks to an un JR-like contract for a pitcher, there's probably no chance they dip into that well again next year, I think this rumor is bunk, but I do think KW realizes if he wants to get something for Floyd now or at the deadline at the latest is the time to move him, and I think the return is smaller with every passing game.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 06:45 PM) He might not be a #2 or better, but 4 WAR pitchers don't grow on trees. Gavin is a valuable commodity. He's one of the few Sox players I feel that people consistently underrate. He was 2.8 last year which put him behind Freddy Garcia by.6 but a little ahead of Bartolo Colon by .4, and they pitched for pennies.

Another White Sox / Blue Jays trade on the horizon?
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 6, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) http://mlbbuzz.yardbarker.com/blog/mlbbuzz...8?new_post=true Rosenthal says AA has inquired about Gavin, but the article basically says he asks about everyone. If he's thinking of Floyd as a #2 or better its either for his AA team or he needs to be attending AA meetings.
