White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) Why do they play the interleague games if they don't count? Do they not let the Twins or Tigers play NL teams? I'm just saying we all should bow down to Bud about interleague play, because without it, the Sox have been average at best for a while.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 04:16 PM) 5+ seasons? Did you just do the including 2007 and excluding 2005 trick again? No, I'm counting this year. 2006-2011. If you don't want to count this year, they are 1 game over, so average. 2006,2007,2008,2009,2010=5 2011=+ 5 years is a pretty good trend, but nice try.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) I'd rather see DeAza playing than Pierre....wouldn't care if Beckham went down to AAA for a spell...wouldn't care if Lillibridge got released and Milledge came back up and Rios went to the bench. It's a damn shame that Jordan Danks can't hit. Its a damn shame that apparently most of the team can't hit, or field or get anyone out. It will turn around.

White Sox (Humber) v. Yankees (Burnett) 6:05pm
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 25, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) It would make no sense to win 3 of 4. The Yankees feast on teams playing as s***ty as the White Sox. You're right. That's why it will probably happen. BTW, I went back and looked at the Sox record the past 5 seasons vs. AL teams. So its been since they won the WS which includes a 90 win team an 88 win team and a division championship so no one could accuse me of cherry picking. Anyone ripping Bud Selig should take it back, because without interleague play the Sox haven't been good. They are 5 games under .500 vs. AL teams the past 5+ seasons.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) Which is why, right now, I think it would be only 1-2 teams that would take the contract on, rather than 10. However, come the middle of this season, where teams are in the race but have guys like Abreu or Matsui struggling in the DH spot, while other teams have guys like Hamilton or Mauer hurt, that's when those moves get made, and at that point, yeah, i could see 5-8 teams being interested. I also don't think losing the draft pick is a big consideration for players you feel are worth over $50 million. I agree teams would be interested, but I think they would want financial relief. Dunn was moved once before and the Reds got 3 bums and had to send AZ some cash and Dunn wasn't owed $42 million the next 3 years, and was 3 years younger. Interest and actually taking the contract are 2 very different things, and as Hawk would say, its academic as the White Sox will be in the race at the deadline.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:08 PM) I wouldn't say 10 teams, but it only takes 1. He'd get claimed if he were put on waivers right now. Remember, when teams had to sign Dunn, they also would have lost their first round draft pick. If the Sox put Dunn on waivers right now, the other teams that considered him could get him and keep that pick. But the teams who were interested in him have also gone and paid alternatives, and Dunn isn't cheap. I wonder how many teams actually were willing to pay Dunn what the White Sox paid him last offseason.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) I feel sorry for season ticket holders. They can't give away tickets right now. You gotta think they're doing a lot of calling and complaining about the product on the field. Tell me about it. I have premium club levels I couldn't sell for $10 on Stubhub last weekend. I'll never go that low again.

White Sox vs. Detroit 12:10 on WGN
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:35 PM) Yeah, I saw it, but it just didn't bother me, I guess. He's probably blowing kisses to a relative in heaven. I don't like Bobby Knight, but he has said somethings I agree with. They asked him if he prayed before games and he said no, he didn't think God really cared who won a basketball game. As someone who has lost his mom, I'd like to believe she's watching over me, and although I don't go through those type of displays, when good fortune comes my way, especially unexpectedly, I always have a "thanks mom" in me.

What would you do if you ran the White Sox?
I'd make Sale the closer and Thornton the set up guy, maybe send a few guys to a shrink, be patient, and look like a genius in a couple of months.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Several weeks after the Sox signed Dunn. OK, I'm sure the A's can add Dunn's contract to their payroll right now. No problem.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) And middle of this season, whichever team is sorta in the race but has an opening or injury would be after him, and I'm not going to predict yet which of those teams will have an injury. If Hamilton were to go down for the rest of the year, then Texas could be desperate for a LH bat and know that they have money to spend and an opening at DH. This original argument was of my post no one would give you anything for Adam Dunn right now. SS2K5 said 10 teams would claim him if he were on waivers. With whom do you agree?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) Oakland was a team I saw having interest in him in the off-season. Then they signed Matsui.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) At the end of this season, Boston, Texas, LAA, maybe the Yankees, if Seattle ever decides they have a competitive team, the Twins depending on what Thome does and what they want to do with Mauer, Oakland if they have a little cash to spend (Dunn is something of a Moneyball guy). Firesale is middle of this season.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:37 PM) To a 1 year deal. So they would pick up Dunn this year to sit on the bench?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) A very interesting name that popped up during the off-season was the Cubs. Apparently with the contracts they had coming off of the books in 2011, they were hoping to backload a deal. And then they signed Carlos Pena. Considering they may have their eyes on Pujols or Fielder Dunn isn't going there.

MLB Attendance problem? (KC, CLE, Cubs, NY teams)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) And that's the last time we had a true rebuilding movement, in 1998 and 1999. Rebuilding is a careful what you wish for deal. Believe me, if the Cubs had a good team and the Sox were losing 95 games but getting high draft picks, everyone who wants a total rebuild right now would be very unhappy. Losing is depressing and really sucks. I totally agree with where you predict attendance to fall if the Sox ever chose this route. I don't think they will, at least I hope they don't under the current regime, because they aren't the people who can get it done. There are very few who could get it done, and even fewer who could get it done quickly. You have to obviously know what you are drafting. Know what you are getting in trades and really get unbelievably lucky.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:26 PM) Right, because I agree with Balta all of the time. If you look at even just the AL between the DH's, 1B's and OF's even if you want to irrationally DQ Detroit, there are plenty of other teams that would be after Adam Dunn if they were in the race. Name another.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:18 PM) per Cowley KW is making the trip to NYC and if things don't turn around a sacrifice will be made. Repeat, this is Cowley, so to be safe divide by 2 and doubt what's left. That would be an interesting sacrifice. I suppose if they didn't score a run, Walker would be the obvious choice, but what if they lost 9-8,8-7,11-9 and 5-4? I think its Cowley just throwing some crap out there and if someone does go eventually he will tell everyone he broke the story.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) That doesn't mean they would want him any less. The talk originally was that Detroit was going to sign both of them. Yes it does, even your buddy Balta agrees. And if it went down as you say, which I doubt, why would you want someone who wants no part of playing for you?

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) For nothing but his contract? 100% yes. The only reason he didn't end up there in the first place was because Dunn didn't want to go to Detroit. Then they signed Victor Martinez.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) So like I said in the beginning, you are totally based this on what he is hitting a week after coming back from surgery, instead of the 300+ homers he has in the last decade, or that there was actually plenty of interest in him in the off-season. Great. I don't think you have any room to say anything. I'm basing it on the fact teams' rosters are set, Dunn gets paid a lot of money and is very limited defensively. If KW determined Morel couldn't handle 3B and Cashman offered him ARod for nothing, KW would say no. It doesn't mean ARod is worthless, but no one is going to take his contract, and I really doubt anyone would take Dunn's right now, and if they did, that GM probably would put his career on the line because if Dunn didn't hit.............

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) IF that DH was Adam Dunn and a team had an opening, absolutely. Again, I'm asking if anyone has an opening. Would Dombrowski take Dunn and his contract for nothing right now? Its a yes or no question. Not moderator gang up time.

This year will end before the trade deadline with a firesale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) Like I said, I have no doubt he would do it if he thought it would win him a division. Hell after this weekend, we put them right back into the race, the odds are probably pretty good for it, in theory. So you're saying they were out of the race until this weekend, and these 3 games over Easter weekend put them back in the race and would be in the market for a DH hitting .150 and owed $50 million? Please don't ever tell anyone what they post is silly ever again.

QUOTE (bulokis @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:59 PM) If we end up with a fire sale i will support it. We may need a new direction, stock up on some young talent. But i am not sure kw can do it Everyone acts like the Sox won't score 2 runs in a game for the rest of the year. This streak is beyond frustrating, however it will end soon and it will be a fun summer watching baseball.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) If he thought Dunn would win him the division, he would do it in a heartbeat. Way to dance around it. You know the answer.
