  1. 5 years ago, Wilder was the "hot" guy. He was the guy other teams were interviewing for open GM positions. He was the guy KW "knew he would lose". He just never imagined losing him the way he lost him. Just taking bits and pieces of the information that has been provided by this story and making presumptions, I woud imagine this guy had weights on him that not many feel. That doesn't excuse what he did. Who knows really what kind of damage he did to the organization, but probably plenty. KW actually gave this guy a promotion.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 04:28 PM) Sure, and if you can find me a prime Frank Thomas, than we can talk. What does that have to do with defense? The poster was concerned about the arm in CF. There have been a lot of CF's great with the glove with zero arm through the years. I pointed out Lance Johnson, as he was a White Sox. I could point out Aaron Rowand who had a better arm, but he wasn't very accurate and looked like he was hunting for rattlesnakes often and his throws went straight into the ground. How did the Sox win games in 1990 before Frank Thomas arrived with Lance Johnson in CF and Ivan Calderon their big bat? Your desire for a smart ass comment after almost everything I post I actually enjoy.
  3. QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Are you really gonna be that upset with Castro over AJ at catcher next year. If Ramon Castro is the White Sox regular catcher next year, and I give it about a zero percent chance, eventually everyone who wants the Sox to win will be upset.
  4. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) It is changed for the playoffs. see attached: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5022064 If they change it for the playoffs, why wouldn't they change it for the regular season? I can understand hockey having 2 different sets of rules, but its not like its adding potentially hours to the game.
  5. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) Probably, I definitely watched him as a kid but by that time he was on other teams, no idea that Lance went by that. Four 4 or 5 years the Sox had Johnson in CF and Raines in LF. They were perhaps the 2 worst OF arms in baseball, yet they won most of the time.
  6. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I'm confused, I thought they changed the overtime rules so that a TD is an automatic win in OT and field goal allows the other team to get the ball for a posession? There's been proposals like that over the years, but nothing has changed yet.
  7. Has icing the kicker ever worked?
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:17 PM) Set a career high in SB's because Ozzie was running him all the time though. He covered a lot of ground in LF, but there's less overall ground to cover in LF than in CF. He's had fewer SB and more CS plenty of times in his career. He would be fine in CF. Not a GG, but good enough to get by, and a lot better than some of the trash the White Sox have thrown out there the past 6 or 7 years. I don't think a guy with 68 SB can really have lost 2 steps.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) Pierre has however Definitely lost a step or two since 2007. That was plainly obvious last year. I don't know about that. He covered a lot of ground in LF and set a career high in SB.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Pierre is getting to about the same age. The fact that he was an ok CF a few years back doesn't mean he wouldn't be a liability there now. Plus, he's never really been anything more than average in CF, and the last time he spent significant time there was 2007. His arm isn't any worse than it was. It can't be. Its like Konerko losing a step. He covered some ground in LF. There's no reason to think he would be any worse next year. If the fielding bible means anything, they had Rios the 15th best defensive CF in 2010. That's pretty average.
  11. Now just don't turn the ball over.
  12. Peanut cannot let him get the first down. I know he gets more than his fair share of strips, but Peanut is one guy I'm looking forward to not having see play every Sunday, hopefully soon.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) Lance also started transitioning into being a part-time player at age 33. That's because he was injured. I have no idea what that has to do with Pierre.
  14. Cutler earned his paycheck the last drive.
  15. Cutler had a month to throw that ball. Nice play.
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Wait, what? You must be too young to remember Lance Johnson.
  17. Cutler threw it away. That's actually progress.
  18. If the Bears don't get better players, its not going to matter who the coach is next year.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) Sometimes it seems Cutler gets into a mode where you know it's just a matter of time before he turns it over. He threw 4 straight terrible passes that all could have been intercepted prior to that fumble. He had been playing a very good game prior to that string of plays (besides the missed Forte TD). Up to this point in his career, he's a talent but not a winning player. Maybe someday it will change, but some guys have a knack for doing things to win games, some guys have a knack for screwing things up at the most inopportune times. It looks like he's going to have to make some plays in the 4th or the Bears are going to lose.
  20. The Sheriff needs to hold on to the ball.
  21. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) Pierre would be terrible in CF, he would give up a huge amount of runs with that arm of his. One Dog played CF a long time for the White Sox. His arm was equally as bad.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) On top of that...what quality CF would be available who is better than Rios and somehow at a lower price? It doesn't do too much to help the system if you trade Rios away, but then take everything you've gotten back for Rios and more and trade that away to re-fill that CF hole. Perhaps a Jacoby Ellsbury. They can also go for a LF or RF and move Pierre to CF. If Rios hits like he hit the 2nd half of the year, his contract is dead weight.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 08:16 AM) In the immediate terms, it is the quickest way, especially if people are serious about wanting to rebuild the farm system you were complaining about in another thread. I suppose its impossible to trade for a CF or a LF and move Pierre back to CF. Thanks for the info. I must be real stupid, but I'm glad you're around to help me out. I'm glad you called me out for complaining about the farm system. I suppose I'm unique.
  24. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 7, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) Keith Law came out with his top 50 Free Agents list. Not surprisingly, Konerko isn't viewed highly in Law's eyes. He ranks Konerko as the 12th best Free Agent, behind the likes of Jake Westbrook, Jorga De La Rosa, Andy Pettite, and a couple other LOL names. About Konerko he describes Konerko as "The biggest time-bomb in this class as a low-defense, old man slugger". He says that whoever signs him will be an overpay based on his name, and says Konerko is very close to "the cliff". If you just read Keith Law and not watched any games, you would think the White Sox lose 120 games a season. Somehow, someway, KW must have done something to really piss Mr. Law off.
  25. I know the article says the Sox are trying to re-sign both, but if they haven't made offers when they had exclusivity with them, it would seem the title of the article may not be accurate.
