QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) Fun win. I have one suggestion for the White Sox--how about just not allowing reaching over the rail under ANY circumstance. Obvious foul ball, slow rollers to the rail...anything. That fan could have meant a loss. Just let the security people down the lines get them and hand them to a kid. Fox finally showed where the runner was after about 15 times of just watching the guy grab the ball, and it appeared the umpire did make the correct call. There's a pretty good chance if it happened when the White Sox were on offense Ozzie would have argued. He probably wouldn't have been booted, but I think he's been looking for a reason to be run for a while. Fans aren't allowed to reach over for a ball if its in play. That guy was booted and had to give up the ball.

Regardless of what Ozzie said in January, home runs are better than stolen bases.

When I played Little League many years ago I had to play for the Cubs. The uniforms weren't so bad. It was a generic C on white uniforms with Cubs in white on the Blue C on the left chest. What sucked was the authentic Cubs hat I had to wear. It was traumatizing. I would only wear it when I had to. I would hold it in my hand riding my bike to the games. I would wear it in the field, but immediately remove it after the 3rd out of an inning. I know this sounds ridiculous, but I was so sickened having to wear this hat at all, I talked my way into catching so I could just wear a helmet. I'm probably the only guy who talked his way from SS to C just because of a hat.

If Peavy is fine physically, IMO its just a phase he's going through and he'll be fine. I think its a big if.

Since its Walker's fault that Quentin and Beckham and AJP aren't hitting, I think its fair to blame Cooper for Floyd and Garcia and Peavy all struggling. I actually do worry something may be wrong with Peavy's elbow or shoulder. He had lost some velocity now doesn't have command trying to get the velocity up. Sometimes thats a sign that something very bad is about to happen.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Agree 100% I would love to see us run out 1. Danks 2. Rios 3. Beckham 4. Q 5. Flowers 6. Viciedo 7. Morel 8. Gartrell 9. Lillibridge 1. Danks 2. Floyd 3. Hudson 4. prospect we get from trades 5. prospect we get from trades and id love to see Santos closing out games after all these young guys put it all out there. You would get real sick of the losing very quickly.

Jenks makes a lot of money. I believe and I have no proof of this or knowledge, that if the Sox could have received a pretty good player for him in return this past offseason, he wouldn't be a White Sox. This season, he has looked real good at times, and very shaky other times. I don't think he could net them much unless the Sox were willing to eat a lot of salary or he gets on a roll, and if he's on a roll saving games, the Sox are probably winning so you don't want to move him.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 08:19 AM) Are we really back to this busted argument again? I don't think the argument is busted at all, but I'm not complaining about the White Sox current payroll anyway. I'm just pointing out that things, even if a worse case scenerio occured, aren't as dire as JR wants the fanbase to believe. I think he's just preparing everyone for a lower payroll because if things don't work out this year, I'm sure they hope Viciedo will be ready to play first base, Flowers ready to catch, and they aren't going to want to pay Jenks close to $10 million to close games.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2008/4/18...g-with-cc-sabat Oh, wrong Cy Young winner in his first four starts of a season,...nevermind... I don't know where Sabathia struggling makes it OK for Peavy to blow leads in 4 games and sport a 7.66 ERA, but whatever.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:10 AM) The Sox have also made the playoffs 3 times during this decade, which isn't too bad. I realize it isn't Yankees or Red Sox good but given the payroll that isn't all that bad. I'm utterly disappointing that we didn't win more or make the playoffs more but we were in a division that has been relatively competitive, albeit many years lacking a great team. Lets not act as if the team has been a failure recently. And when you talk about youth movements, I don't think you can go back to 1983, because the Sox had a youth movement in the early 90's and again in the late 90's (which was started with the White Flag trade). Will we have another movement, I don't know. I think it is more likely we see more of the aging faces going away, but guys like Danks/Floyd, they can be useful and don't need to be traded away in a hurry. Heck, St. Louis was a pretty bad team with a poor farm system and in about a year and a half they got themselves back on the right track again. Albert Pujols obviously helped significantly and the Cards poor team was impacted by injuries to guys like Carpenter, but it can be done. Lastly, don't forget that it is incredibly difficult to make the playoffs year in and year out in baseball, especially when you don't have the budget of a team like the Red Sox/Dodgers/Angels/Yankees/Cardinals/etc. If it were back when there were 7 team divisions and 2 teams from each league made the playoffs, 3 times in 10 years would be impressive. With 5 team divsions and the economic advantage the Sox have had on the AL Central, 3 times in 10 years should be minimum. Throw out KC, they have no chance. That's 4 teams in 10 years. 2.5 per team. Cleveland? Detroit? KW and Ozzie have a WS title. That's really the only thing they can hang their hats on, and to their credit, its a rather large thing to hang their hats on. If the team would have bowed out like the Cubs in 2003, I really doubt either would have much support from anyone other than JR at this time.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 12:21 AM) Paging Dick Allen. Didn't JR say money was there for another hitter a couple of years ago? Maybe he ought to look under his bed. Forbes said he pulled a $26 million profit last year. A bigger profit than the Cubs. If they are extended now, I would put the odds of A. Gonzalez coming to the Sox around zero. They would have to give up some of that cheap filler, and how would they find the cash to give him an extension?

You can learn a lot from a postgame show...
Dick Allen replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So in about a week, Ozzie has gone from any fan that disagrees with him should go root for the Cubs to feeling compassion for the people who pay to go watch the crap he throws on the field? Maybe Ozzie should have done a double take on the line up he made out last night. You don't have to know baseball as well as Oney to figure runs were probably going to be at a premium. I made a comment before the game in the game thread thinking the opposite of what you think may happen and the Sox hopefully would score 6 or 7. That obviously didn't happen and even if it did, it would have been woefully short. Another awful game. Maybe this team can turn it around, but the question is how long do you wait? I really don't think its a 95-100 loss team as constructed, but the object is to win that amount. Something has to be done. -
QUOTE (TitoMB @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Oh man, that made me throw up in my mouth a bit. At least Danks is pitching out of his mind right now. Hopefully, when he falls back to earth a bit, some of the other guys start pitching better as well. I don't even want to think about what happens if these guys keep this up all year.. I don't think they all will though. There's no chance they will be that high all year, but the 3.20-3.70 ERA's many, including me, may have expected from at least 3 of these guys, is probably unrealistic. Floyd started out awful last year, and for some reason he is so much better at USCF than on the road.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) We've got a guy hitting .105 with no speed or power hitting 2nd in the lineup. Which other team in MLB would do that? When he was signed, it was like Mardi Gras on this board for some reason. He, like Kotsay, are fine to have on a team if they are getting 150 AB tops a season. When they are getting more than that, you're in trouble.
