Thoughts on Julio Lugo at 3B for ChiSox
Why is everyone so fascinated with other teams' junk?

Richard optioned to Charlotte
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) Wassermann since his callup: 6.1 IP, 6 H, 4 BB (2 IBB though), 0 K, 2.84 ERA. He's starting to look like he might be back to 2007 form. I'd keep him around for now. Also, I suggested this in the minor league thread... I have a feeling they are protecting Poreda, so if they send down Logan (which I think may happen), I think they'll call up Whisler. Not because Whisler is more talented (he's not), but because Poreda already has a ton of value. Whisler is a big question mark - no one can see a reason why he's doing so well in Charlotte. I think they may want to look at him for a week or two out of the pen, then bring Logan back for the stretch run. There is zero doubt in my mind Whistler would have a hard time keeping his ERA under 8.00

Oz probably getting suspended...
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 02:17 AM) Do you really need to bunt to get ONE baserunner though? when the other team is scoreless and looking helpless? It is bush league what Teahen did...the Royals didn't need a baserunner at the time - not when you're up by 6 runs - and it wasn't that hard to get baserunners against the Sox that day either, seeing as how the Royals scored 14 runs and had like 19 or 20 hits. There's no need to bunt. So I can definitely see justification for throwing at him. Sure, the game's not out of hand yet, but it's also not close either. It's also definitely a much worse time to bunt than Ben Davis's bunt against Curt Schilling about 5-6 years ago when Schilling had a perfect game going as the Padres were down by 2 in the 8th inning or so. With a baserunner in that scenario, you are a home run away from tying the game; in Teahen's case, you are a baserunner and a big hit away from seeing a big lead turn into a monstrous lead. There's just no need to bunt in the case of Teahen. I was in the car when this happened and Farmer and Stone had no problem with Teahan bunting. Didn't the Sox make the game before interesting late? Farmer said, and I agree with this, its no problem unless the losing team says it will shut down its offense for the rest of the game which of course isn't what they are going to do. 6-0 with some of KC's pitchers, is nothing on some days.

Another Crede thread...
Russell Branyon had a couple years in MLB similar in power numbers to Fields' 2007. His minor league numbers were far superior. Ben Broussard is what the Indians got for him when they cut the cord. If Fields can't make contact, he's not worth much. Hopefully, that is an area that can be improved.

Another Crede thread...
It doesn't look like Joe played last night, so his back must really be bothering him. I was all for bringing him back this year, but he's done all the exercises and preventitive things he could do, and he still has issues. Its going to kill his market IMO, and while I hope he gets back soon, I think its best for the Sox to move on after the season. It looks like he probably will have problems from here on out.

Josh Fields
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 12:30 PM) That usually happens when people get hurt. Why would the Sox call him up if he's injured? I don't think you could blame his injuries this year for all the swinging and missing he's doing.

How About a Garcia Comeback?
I think it depends on the contract. Ozzie knows Freddy better than anyone, and I think he's pretty much concluded Freddy won't help this year. If Freddy just wants to sign for 2008 like he's stated in the past, I doubt the Sox go there. I do think they would be the favorites to sign him if its a cheap deal with incentives for 2009.

Your second place Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Negative doesnt start to describe you. It almost feels like you want the sox to lose so you can b**** at something I want the Sox to lose? I complain about people complaining about Konerko, Thome, Contreras, Uribe..... and I'm Mr. Negative? If anything my post was a sarcastic post towards all the people concerned with White Sox draft picks.

Livan Hernandez
Richard shouldn't be in the majors, and won't be soon and neither should Livan. There's a reason he was released and we were able to see it last week.

Your second place Chicago White Sox
One the bright side the Sox improved their draft position today.

Clayton Richard
QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 04:07 PM) Wasserman has been good since he returned Not really.

Clayton Richard
I wouldn't expect much, but maybe he could be something decent someday. They need to put him on a plane to Charlotte with Logan and Wassermann.

You're Kenny Williams
I've searched everywhere for something that says Philadelphia would pick up part of the vested option. The only thing I have seen so far is Thome had $46 million left on his contract when the Sox acquired him and Philadelphia was sending $22 million to the Sox. I think the Sox will be on the hook for the full option if it vests, which it should if he doesn't get hurt.

8/2 Sox-Royals on FOX Saturday Game - 2:50 CT
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:08 PM) 4 innings, 12 hits, 6 ER, 1K Thats after a 3-0 lead. We can only hope Contreras' bullpen sessions weren't a tease.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) Wow, my brother said the same thing that he thought he might be sick. To me, after he gave up the first hit, it looked like he just ran a 100 meter dash.

Buerhle has seemed out of breath since the first.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) I've seen quite enough of Buehrle for the day. This is where a dope like Masset has value.

The Waiver Wire
QUOTE (Shamrock4Life @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) and any player already through waivers, say a player who was out of options, sent down, and called back up, has cleared waivers. Ala Dewayne Wise.
-
The Waiver Wire
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 06:10 PM) Does the waiver wire go in inverse order of last year's full standings or the current season's standings? Its current now. I think at the beginning of the season for a certain period, it goes based on the previous season's finish.

The Waiver Wire
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 04:24 PM) But if the White Sox claim somebody, they have, I believe, 48 hours to work on a deal. No play has to "clear" waivers. But for them to claim someone, all the teams below them would have to pass. If any of them claimed the player, they could either work out a trade, assign the contract to the team making the claim, or revoke the waiver, and the White Sox or any team above the team making the initial claim would be SOL if they were after that player.

What player would you most like to have seen play for Sox?
If $ wasn't a factor, ARod who when its all said and done, will go down as the greatest ever.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!
I believe Scott Linebrink is the key to the rest of the White Sox season. Although Carrasco has performed well for the most part, its just a matter of time for him. Linebrink getting back and regaining his earlier form could project the bullpen back to its shutdown level they had earlier. They all had their roles and performed them superbly. Missing a piece whether it was Jenks or then Linebrink, I think has affected the bullpen greatly and taken them all out of their roles just enough to throw them off a bit. If they could at least get close to the level they were at a couple months ago, it would leave Minnesota in their dust IMO. If someone told me in spring training that both Mark Buerhle and Javy Vazquez would be below .500 on August 2nd, 4th or 5th place would have been where I would have expected this team to be. Obviously Danks and Floyd have pitched beyond expectations, but the bullpen is what made this team a contender.
