Fun Topic : worst deals in Sox history
QUOTE(briguy27 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:11 PM) another one is how about the signing of colon. colon pitched 1 season for us, and all the expectations we had of winning the world series and such, he went 13-12 or somethin around there, and we missed the playoffs KW traded garbage for Colon. It was one of his better trades. The 2003 team had a lot of talent. It should have made the playoffs.

White Sox vs. Twins, 5/29/07 (L)
You look at the Twins line-up and you wonder how they don't lose 90 games every year.

Fun Topic : worst deals in Sox history
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) I knew someone who pick that one. Amazing. A trade that has worked out fabulously for us, and its somehow one of the worst ever. In five years, sure, we may look back and wish we had Young. MAYBE. Or maybe not. Either way, we got an above average SP for a big question mark, so its kind of ridiculous to even mention it as one of the worst trades ever. I do agree with you here, though. The signing itself wasn't the big negative - its the fact that the signing meant we were passing up on other opportunities. ANY other opportunities. Wouldn't an above average pitcher have an above average record and ERA on a team that has won more games than it has lost? How has it worked out fabulously for the Sox? Vazquez's mediocrity has helped the Sox finish 3rd last season and they are 3rd this. Signing him to a lucrative extension probably will mean the end for guys with better track records like Buerhle. That and the Sox could really use a right handed hitting CF.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 29, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) True, but how would 1997 Sox do if they had a Roger Clemens or even average league pitcher in Jaime's spot? The embarrasing White Flag Trade wouldn't have happened. That's true too. With Clemens in the fold White Sox history would have a different look. But if you looked at the 4 previous seasons of Clemens' career and looked at Navarro's numbers with the Cubs, you could see why they would have shied away from the Rocket. Maybe that's when he started taking his vitamins.

Ozzie Guillen
Put it this way, there is no one who thinks KW and Ozzie are more responsible for a White Sox World Championship than KW and Ozzie.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 29, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) Steve Sax, Jaime Navarro, Royce Clayton (just for the money we paid him and the how much of a cancer he was.) Navarro seems obvious, but Schueler found a team that actually gave the Sox valuable parts to a division winner for him in Milwaukee. Valentin and Eldred.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 29, 2007 -> 05:21 PM) Todd Ritchie deal, although just about everyone involved was crap. And one I always hated was Durham for Adkins. The sadder thing about that deal was the Sox picked up all but the minimum pro-rated requirement the A's had to pay in that deal. Totally useless.

Going to Boston in July...
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 29, 2007 -> 10:44 AM) Sounds like you are saying I'd have to call the traveling secretary to find out which of the two hotels. Thanks for the feedback. When I went in 2003 they stayed at the Marriott. Then I saw in the media guide they started staying at the Westin. They are literally right next to each other. You can go to either one without stepping outside. I would stay where you can get the best deal.

Going to Boston in July...
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ May 29, 2007 -> 09:15 AM) This trip should be a ton of fun. The tickets are purchased...now, where to stay? I want to stay at the Sox hotel. Anyone know where they stay in Baaahhh-stin? Maybe I can find Buerhle in the bar and get him to sign my ticket stub from the no-hitter. They either stay at the Marriott or Westin in the Back Bay which is an easy walk to Fenway. Get the room on priceline.com. Bid on the Back Bay. Look at biddingfortravel.com to get an idea what to bid. You may get the Westin or Marriott. When I went I got the Sheraton which was really nice. You have access to the other hotels without going outside.

collaro
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ May 28, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) And to think that Hawk was GM of the Sox at one point... He picked up Ivan Calderon for nothing. Got Bobby Bonilla for nothing. Traded away Britt Burns and he never pitched again. He really didn't do a bad job. The team was doomed that season. Seaver wanted out. He wound up trading Bonilla back to Pittsburg but got Jose DeLeon who eventually turned into Lance Johnson. Calderon eventually turned into Tim Raines. Hawk really wasn't as bad as most will have you believe.

Why are we so bad in Minny?
QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ May 29, 2007 -> 07:34 AM) I'd like to see what our record @ Minny was from 2001-2003. It was probably pretty ugly, and my guess is Bob remembers those games as well... But there is no doubt, in my opinion, the Twins enjoy the best home field advantage in baseball. And they pull out games like last night because it. Not to mention, Ozzie helped out the cause last night by leaving Contreras in way too long... He might have left him in too long, but the bullpen is loaded with gascans who can't throw strike 1.

Gonzalez, Day Called Up
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 28, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) I don't see how people can slam Masset. He has some nice secondary stuff and as a starter he has an above average fastball that sustains its velocity and life late into games. Masset had a great start. His first start of his career. I don't know how you can come to the conclusion his fastball sustains its velocity late into games when he didn't pitch late into the game. I was very encouraged by his start, but lets remember a couple things. The wind was howling straight in at 25 mph. It was about 45 degrees, and it was against a team that is struggling. BY Kim just shut the Cubs down, and I wouldn't want him anywhere near the White Sox rotation.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:56 PM) I'm very concerned about KW's quotes last offseason about how he won't "play" in this crazy market. This team has a s***load of holes over the next few years to fill....maybe more than we've had in 10 years. I was looking at the Tampa talent. It is far superior to the White Sox young guys. When these pitchers start to depart, it could get very ugly for a long time at USCF.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:51 PM) Wait until this offseason when we lose some high-priced guys. Everyone's expecting us to go after guys like Ichiro or Zambrano. I don't see that happening. But we'll still have Javier Vazquez going 6 innings giving up 5 runs but raving about his 6 or 7 strikeouts for 3 more years after this one.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) I agree 100% on the cheap is the JR/KW way! I don't think they are cheap overall, I think they do need a refresher course on how to spend their money.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) I really am tired of smugass KW sitting on his ass doing nothing but looking for guys on the cheap! The WS title has really gone to his head. He thinks he's smarter than everyone else. I loved his quote the other day how he's "used to winning". Someone should remind him that in the first 6 years of his GM tenure, he has won the division 1 time, despite usually having the highest payroll.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) I heard Cotts was reassigned to AAA? Is that true? Yes. He started out well, but started getting lit up so unlike the White Sox, they don't need to watch it continue for a couple of months before making a move.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) That $18 million arm is currently sitting on the DL. How would that help the Sox? Think the Twins will auction off who gets to push the switch to demolish the HHH dome? I f***ing hate this place. Next time we should jst try and bunt the ball every at-bat. We don't know that he would have been hurt if he were with the Sox, and when he was available this year, he was pretty good. Pods the guy I said he would be better than is also on the DL. He had some sort of virus. His 0.75 WHIP and .169 BAA would be very unique in the White Sox bullpen.

I am so sick of Sox pitchers falling behind in counts. If their stuff is so dominating why don't the White Sox pitchers attack the hitters?

Hunter was a bit lucky his ball bounced off the plate, but the next batter drilled the ball hard, something that has been consistently happening for 17 games now. Evidently there is nothing that can be done about it. If the offensive woes were Walker's fault, maybe its time to fire Cooper.
