  1. Pods isn't very good, but his OBP and slugging pct. are both higher this year than last, when, if you would have read this board, the man was destined for Cooperstown. I agree he should be a DH, but we have the best one of those. I think you play the year out with him in LF, it worked out OK last season, and deal his arbitration-eligible ass to some other sucker this winter. Hopefully he'll have a few 4 SB games to really pad his stats the second half, and KW can reap the reward.
  2. Trading for Aaron Rowand would be dumb IMO. His reputation is built on a few nice catches and a pretty good offensive season in 2004. BA is better defensively. He gets to more balls, and makes all the catches, and his arm is far more accurate. Take away that series he had defensively vs. NY last season which I will admit was incredible, I doubt anyone cries when Rowand was moved this past offseason. I wouldn't mind the Sox dealing Vazquez, which makes the Schmidt rumors a little more plausible. If Philadelphia threw in Gordon, it would make the trade more interesting, at least for this season. I think Gordon makes around $6 million, and I believe would be eligible to demand a trade in the offseason. If it were me, Gordon would be a much bigger piece of the trade than Rowand.
  3. Personally, I don't like Bonds. I think he's an ass. I don't understand this witch hunt to try and send him to prison however. What is that going to accomplish? I think the government should be using its resources keeping people who are dangers to society off the streets.
  4. ESPN will still be showing games as well. I think they are in the first year of an 8 year deal.
  5. Politte would land the Sox approximately what they got for Shingo. Nada, a non-prospect. He is batting practice. I know people will say he pitched a scoreless inning the other day and that is true. Shingo pitched several scoreless innings and averaged more than a strikeout an inning. Lets not be like Cubs fans and ridiculously overvalue even the guys who have no business being on the major league roster of just about every team. Just ask yourself, why would a team give up anything of value for 3 months of Cliff Politte.
  6. QUOTE(innersanctum @ Jul 11, 2006 -> 07:53 AM) In his defense, we lose those 7 games his steals directly contributed to winning the game, and we would be 50-38 and no where near Detroit and probably closer to Minnesota with Minnesota winning one more because of Pods missing this "crucial" steal. You are also assuming the player that takes his place does absolutely nothing to help the White Sox win games. I guarantee Podsednik being in the White Sox line-up has not resulted in 7 extra victories.
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:55 PM) Anderson will be one of the best defensive centerfielders in baseball the way he patrols center. Rowand did a nice job here, however when its all said and done, Anderson > Rowand defensively. Anderson will eventually be better than him offensively, as crazy as that sounds.
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 08:49 PM) He's also in a MUCH better lineup this year. Obviously. The point I'm making is he really was mediocre to sucking last year. Everyone talked about how he disrupted pitchers on the bases. If he really bothered pitchers that much, he would have scored more than 80 runs. Since he hit a homer to win a WS game, I will say he was mediocre last year.
  9. I remember Rick Hahn saying BMac would bring back a "king's ransom" in a trade. This was before he opened everyone's eyes in spring training 2005. I don't think BMac has done anything to drop his stock. He's still learning his way, and is a future #1 or #2 starter IMO. He's been better at the beginning of his career than Greg Maddux was at the beginning of his. It would be unfair to say BMac has that much promise, but I do like pitchers who aren't easy to hit, and have good control.
  10. I've never been a fan of Pods, but his OBP is actually higher this season than last. He has driven in more runs. He has hit for extra bases a lot more often. He is on pace to score a lot more runs than last year. He is fanning a little more, and his defense has regressed to a few notches below Ralph Garr, but offensively he is a much better player this year. I wouldn't mind KW trading him for another LF, sort of like the Bernazard/Cruz trade in 1983.
  11. Bell will be a much better player now that he is not a Blackhawk.
  12. Schmidt would be unhittable after Coop worked his magic with him, considering he's been pretty good without him. Coop could also work with Rowand. The White Sox would never lose. Say these reports are true. Wouldn't it be ironic that the guy who couldn't hit in 2003 which made KW go out and grab a DH to play CF, would be the guy KW traded for because his current CF isn't hitting? I'll say it again, as bad as Anderson has been offensively, his OBP is only .037 lower than the great Aaron Rowand's. I would just let Anderson play, or get someone better than Rowand.
  13. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) Did Gordon burn his bridges a bit when he left here? Did we insult him with our low ball contract offer? And would he be happy again in a set up role for a kid like Jenks? It's one thing to set up for Mariano Rivera when you want to close. It is another thing to set up for the new kid on the block, no matter how successful he's been up to this point. Certainly Gordon would look very good in our bullpen. You could almost trade Javier Vazquez for him, except I believe Vazquez has a clause in his deal about not being traded to Philly. Just don't give up any can't miss guys like Josh Fields for him. Fields is worth a lot more than a set-up bullpen guy, no matter how good he is. No, IIRC the White Sox made him a pretty good offer, and he was the White Sox closer at the time he left. He wanted to close but the Yankees gave him a great deal. I don't know if he has a no-trade, but if somehow KW got him, I don't think he'd have a problem pitching the 8th, and he probably get a couple shots at pitching the 9th. He's one of Bo Jackson's best buddies I believe.
  14. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:48 AM) It's interesting that Farmer and Singleton would even debate it if was only 5-6 thousand. You're probably right though, as someone who went to both saturday and sunday's games. They were very loud. I think its shocking to hear that much noise for an opponent at your home park. They sounded like 15,000.
  15. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 10, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) It seemed a little far fetched to me, but if you listened to the pregame show yesterday as I did on my way to the park, it was a topic of discussion. I was at the game Friday, and while there were a lot of Red Sox fans there, it was probably around 5000-6000. I would imagine it was the same the other 2 games.
  16. Rowand's OBP is .317. Anderson's with as bad as he's been is .280. I don't see where you give up all those years of BA and BMac being cheap for half a season of Schmidt, let alone deal away a starter for what appears to me to be a minor upgrade at best, and probably an upgrade only in the short term. Maybe they are absolutely convinced guys like Haeger and Broadway can compete soon.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) Brandon McCarthy is probably the second best starting pitcher on this team. That's because Coop worked his magic with him. Every pitcher on the Sox needs to bow down to Coop.
  18. Big win. Hawk still calling it the new ballpark. Its season 16
  19. a walk-off walk would be nice
  20. shock the world and bunt him home
  21. its time Mack doesn't try to hit one over the advertisements.
  22. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) How silly will Cintron look this at bat? pretty silly
  23. Crede has a long swing working right now.
  24. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 9, 2006 -> 07:15 PM) Does Politte have the speed to get a HR hit off him? If Politte sees Ortiz and Ramirez, the Red Sox are going to score.
