  1. Cardinals owner. JR has mentioned what a tough business it is several times though. All these poor broke bastards.
  2. Another day another owner saying what a crappy business owning a baseball team is. Then sell the team. Half the owners aren't even trying to win, if not more. If it is so crappy, get out. There is someone willing to give you a couple of billiion for your trouble.
  3. I disagree. The guy couldn't make contact. That has nothing to do with his speed. He was Courtney Hawkins, not Mike Cameron. Good in rookie ball although a ton of ks. Then the lack of contact catches up to him.
  4. A neighbor is a nurse at Stroger. She said deaths from non Covid things are way up because many delayed getting care because of Covid.
  5. I wouldn’t mind him, but at 11 if Kjerstad is there, that is who I want the Sox to take.
  6. The first expert I saw on TV after the numbers came out said be very skeptical. It was the every Labor Dept. employee is working from home and a lot of businesses are closed and probably didn't report. The Labor Department's jobs report — which surveys individuals and businesses during the week of May 16 — found there were 20,985,000 unemployed people. That would mean there were 9 million more people receiving unemployment benefits than there were unemployed people during the exact same survey week. So the 20% most were saying it was is probably pretty accurate.
  7. How is the payout going to be affected? Will they get their full slot? I am thinking , at least for HS players, if there is some sort of adjustment, not signing and going to at least JUCO, might be an option more take, and wait until things get back to normal. I am normally a take the college guy, there is more of a track record, especially this year kind of guy, but the guy the mocks have the Sox taking, Bailey, does nothing for me. So going HS might be the play. There will be a future star available when the Sox select. Hopefully, the Sox select him or them.
  8. Baines signed for $32k. Now the slot is over $8 million.

There are good cops and bad cops just like there are good and bad in every occupation. They key is weeding out the bad. One problem police have is the code of silence people take when they see crimes committed. They are too scared, and many times, if not most, rightfully so, about retribution. The same type of code of silence is present in police departments everywhere. They don't report misconduct. They don't even admit they have seen it when it is being investigated. If this code of silence can ever be broken, witnesses don't have to fear for their life to report what they have seen. Cops don't have to fear the living hell of reporting a fellow officer's wrongdoing, everything will be much better. One idea I have is teaming black officers with white officers. Most of the racists are pretty cowardly. They won't show it, at least as much, in front of a black colleague.
  10. I hated the test. You have no idea your nose is that deep, and I got a really weird taste in my mouth.
  11. I hear very good things. Believe me.

The new charge probably ends that. But I later linked an article from probably the #1 Constitution attorney and a prominent Minneapolis attorney that explained why the 3rd degree charge would have almost certainly been dismissed.

I also get a kick out of his wife making sure everyone knows she's divorcing him and changing her name. That was to save herself. She knows what he is.

The guy had 18 complaints against him. At what point does someone have to say, this guy has a problem, maybe having him out on the street with police powers isn't a good thing?

So the rioting and protesting worked for something. 3 guys would have totally got away with it. The neck kneeler would have had a slap on the wrist, and that is only because it was recorded. They all would have gotten away with it if not.

The other scary thing is the 3rd degree murder charge against the officer who had his knee on George's neck for 9 minutes, recorded, is set up to be dropped. If that happens, then what? Obviously, there needs to be big change. But does anyone really believe these protests will lead to it? We have been here before so often, then it's like the attention goes somewhere else. Hopefully we can continue protesting until something happens. if it stops next week, nothing is going to change.

That is part of the problem. Police uniforms for many are getting closer to looking like military. Their vehicles are getting more military. They will start acting more military. Make them the peace officers they were supposed to be.

I think Chicago requires at least 2 years of college.

The rubber bullets may not kill you, although they have. They can really mess you up. Dale Murphy''s son got one right by his eye. That will leave a mark. All for peaceful protesting. There is also a picture of a young woman's leg with 4 or 5 wounds. It was the back of the leg indicating she was moving away, but rubber bullets anyway . That was at the precursor for the Trump photo op.

So peaceful protesters are shot with rubber bullets and tear gassed for a photo op, and the people who are OK with that think governors are dictators for making them stay home during a pandemic. Crazy what has happened to America.

Some crazy protesting going on in Chicago right now. Destroying police cars seems to be a thing. What has happened and what has been happening for years is unjust, but this is no way to protest it.
  23. I read in The Athletic, the new spring training will be held at each team’s home ballpark. And that there will be up to a 30 man roster and 20 man taxi squad. It will be interesting to see how teams use the taxi squad. Probably will include keepimg several top prospects they have no intention of playing around for at least some development. If you are willing to take on some cash, there are going to be a lot of opportunities to improve your team.
  24. While I agree some players, if not many, will opt out, I still hope they play. It is an asterisk year anyway. Get some development, and maybe you get lucky. Plus, it’s a lot better to watch than the current choices on TV. And if the NBA and NHL and even MLS make it back and baseball doesn’t because of money, the industry would have just shot itself again, and this time may be lethal. No matter what, owners are going to take a bath this year. One interesting thing will be next off seasons free agent market. I am pretty sure we will be back to spring training signings. This pandemic, even if there is a vaccine by next season is going to coast some really good players a lot of money.
