  1. Why are people so opposed to Moustakas, but seemed to really dig signing a 30 year old catcher to a 2 year deal, which certainly doesn't fit with the rebuild?
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 09:31 AM) If the white sox can get him at a price they never thought, I'd want them to consider why that is, especially after all of their value FA adds the last few years. He can still be replaced, but it will come at the cost of playing time for one of our fringe prospects. It is obviously unlikely that Sanchez ends up with a career as good as Moustakas, but allowing him and leury and the DH spot to be open could allow something more valuable than Moustakas years 2019-20-21 Moustakas just had bad timing. I don't think it's a result of teams not valuing him in the least. Boras was probably shooting for the moon. Teams that need a 3B are either non contenders or trying to get under the tax, so why engage? I'm not too worried about finding playing time for Sanchez and Leury, as both are quite versatile, and there will be struggles and injuries. ABs won't be hard to come by. It would probably be the demise of Tyler Saladino.
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 09:15 AM) Every team in baseball has the opportunity to sign him right now for merely his market rate. What do we think he could get in return for his market rate and rights? It would be nothing. He's not a good flip candidate, which we know because nobody wants to sign him. Tha't s pretty much true of any guy you sign to flip. But, he makes no sense for that because of the lost draft pick and salary, even discounted. There supposedly are teams willing to sign him to a one year deal. You offer him a multi year rate discounted. If he doesn't accept, fine, he takes the one year with someone else, and you can go after him next year if needed. But, signing him at a price you never thought you can sign him for at multiple years makes sense as well. If a better player comes along, he can still be replaced.
  4. Stephen Miller photographed sleeping during a meeting on school safety. They are taking this very seriously. https://twitter.com/jeneps/status/968206366...ng-during-white
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 07:31 AM) I have no doubt that they are. Flexibility is the key in most baseball activities. Even so, isn't it a bit odd someone his age did this? I'm sure the vast majority of 22 year olds who are not professional athletes lack the proper prep when exercising, yet they are in gyms, running on trails, playing hoops every day, and it doesn't blow. It seems to me an injury that normally occurs a little later. I hope this isn't a sign Burger has an old body.
  6. In 2020 I think the Dems have to get someone not so serious about being POTUS to run in the primaries, and just be like Trump, only fire away at Trump. Take all the potshots. He's easy to rile up. Why don't Dems take advantage of this? Make him go off the deep end. Take the shots. Talk about Trump U, Stormy Daniels, Russians, his stupid offspring, all the hits. Call his lackeys president Jared or president Kelly or whoever is around then. Make fun of Ivanka speaking whisper. Talk about his fake marriage. His admitted sexual abuse. Everything. He. Can't. Take. It. It's low and dirty, but enough playing fair.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 07:35 AM) LOL, thats why they are his base, they will literally believe anything. Trump could stand on a podium in front of these nuts, eat a bucket of KFC, and then say he has never eaten KFC in his life, it's fake news, and everyone of them would buy it.
  8. The bottom 8 teams in the NBA have combined to lose their last 44 games. It will end tonight.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:37 PM) I know your being sarcastic but there really should have been something to find with Burger. Ruptures of the achilles tendon in 22 year olds dont happen from one instance. He had to have previous issues. How thorough is a welcome to spring training physical, in general? I would imagine someone coming off an injury or older who have had issues, might be checked a lot more closely than a 22 year old with no injury history. Do they really check all of their Achilles?
  10. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:13 PM) What would be the point of signing Moustakas to a one year contract and losing a draft pick and that slot position money? That's a move a contender makes, not a rebuilding team such as the Sox. There would be no point.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 06:16 PM) So you expect the White Sox to magically be the most injury-free team in baseball every single year? That seems unrealistic. If we're consistently one of the healthiest teams each year, I see nothing to complain about. A guy has a pinhole UCL injury, and Burger hurt his Achilles running to first. Clearly that is in the training staff. Baseball players should never get hurt if your staff is competent.
  12. Trumps lawyers want to type the answers and have Trump read off a TelePrompTer if he meets with Mueller.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 02:55 PM) He also looked like he soiled his pants that one time someone lunged at the stage at one of his rallies. Here it is
  14. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 05:17 PM) Therefore, do I understand that you guys think that Boras would urge him to take a one year deal, in order to try to re-enter the free agent market, with that stacked free agent group, next year? I'm skeptical. I think they would like to avoid it not just for the sake next years class is strong. He turned down the QO. Chances of a team coming close to matching that over a year is slim. He does save some face if the total package is larger. You sign him for 4/$48 million, that is double the years and just under triple the money Frazier signed for, so they could spin that as a win. But at some point, the one year contact may be all he has. There still has not been any report of talks between the parties. Just some innuendo which may or may not mean the Sox have actual interest. The White Sox hold the cards because a one year contract with them makes no sense to the team, so it could be his only shot at a multi year deal.
  15. QUOTE (Lillian @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 05:01 PM) Do you think that he would accept an offer like that? From what I have read, he has a few one year offers. No need to offer 5. His agent is Boras so probably doubtful he signs something like that, but he is going to have to sign something pretty soon. If he won’t agree to White Sox terms, there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be a free agent again in a year. Then go after him when Machado goes to the Yankees and Donaldson to the Cardinals.
  16. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 04:57 PM) Howard was also 31. Gotta hope for the best. At least Burger's value isn't as a speed guy like Mitchell. Mitchell had a problem making contact. Nothing to do with his injury.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 04:33 PM) Ryan Howard said it sapped his power on his plant foot. Does that sound real? A lot of my concerns after reading the article was on weight distribution on the feet after the recovery. Yes, I was reading the list of baseball players, and none of them seemed the same, although most were a bit long in the tooth when the injury occurred. Kobe had it, and came back to the NBA, so I have no reason to believe Burger wouldn’t come back. What remains to be seen is how much the injury and missed development time affects his career.
  18. Not a lot of baseball players get this. It is a killer in other sports. Hopefully Burgers age helps his recovery, but it looks like most are never quite the same. It can’t be any worse than when Robin Ventura destroyed his ankle during spring training. He was still really good until the arthritis started kicking in.
  19. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 03:03 PM) I posted elsewhere too, but lest we forget his run in with the bald eagle... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/am...t-a6767501.html To be fair, we have a cockatiel and it freaks me out every time it lands on me, but I also don't claim to be some tough guy. This guy is a colossal sally. It just amazes me how much he gets away with. He is such a phony, but some people still buy everything he says even though the evidence shows he isn't about anybody but himself. And maybe Ivanka.
  20. Yeah, Trump would have gone in there without a weapon. For sure. has admitted to finding the sight of blood “disgusting.” In a 2008 interview with Howard Stern, Trump told the shock jock that he turned away from an injured elderly man who had fallen off the stage at a Mar-a-Lago benefit because he couldn’t stomach the sight of blood.
  21. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 01:58 PM) I know he doesn't really have a market at this point but I have to agree with Eminor that if the AAV falls into the $12 million range I highly doubt he'll go long-term with it. I just don't think there's any chance he'll sign for 4/48 or 5/60. He has to do something to save face. He isn't going to sign for 1 year and $12 million considering what he turned down. But you are probably correct. If those were parameters, probably would want an opt out. You could throw some incentives at him l. That way, if you are paying more, at least it's for production.
  22. We need and deserve better from the police, FBI, and politicians. Get off the more guns. 4.4% of the world's population, 42% of the world's guns. We should be the safest place in the world by far if more guns was the answer. If the NRA doesn't want something, politicians, even Trump who campaigned how no one could influence him, back off immediately. Get some balls Washington.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) I don't know if there are stats on this, but I feel like this is exactly where these types of incidents happen most often. I don't recall this really happening in poorer and more urban school systems. It is typically in richer/whiter communities. Probably. It's an easier target. And while I doubt most school guards would be totally prepared for an attack, if it happened in a less sleepy community, I'm pretty sure the police reaction would have been much better. I just don't know if you really want all these armed guards surrounding a school, with teachers packing guns. It makes for a very stressful environment. And if they ultimately made these schools like that, while it may stop the shootings in school during the school day, what's next? Mall, movie theater, concert, sporting event, large party. There is always going to be a situation very vulnerable. At the very least, is it too much to ask these politicians to tell the NRA to f*** off, you have to be 21 to buy a gun?
  24. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 09:06 PM) WRONG. The fans who die before the success will have regrets on their deathbeds. I was as happy as anyone when the White Sox won the WS. But if you have regrets based on a baseball team, or any team, IMO, you probably need to make some changes.
  25. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 25, 2018 -> 06:09 PM) Wonder how much that will affect his draft position. Unless some team was already sold he was a top 5 or so guy, probably enough to where some team will get a steal. That was my guy. All he needs is a little more power. He size might make teams balk, but there are several little guys with a bit of pop that are doing quite well.
