  1. Other than maybe their Sunday attire, they don't need new uniforms, and they went back to wearing the black way too often last year.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 20, 2018 -> 11:17 AM) Aren’t you an accountant or something in real life? We’re going to have almost no payroll commitments come 2019. Even with Machado at $30M/year, we could easily add another $40M in annual commitments in the short-run if not more. And that’s assuming we keep Abreu at like $20M/season. Do you honestly expect to have a sub $100M in 2019? And just for perspective, the Sox added nearly $50M in commitments during the 2014/15 offseason. You do realize signing Machado is like signing 3 JD Martinez, and you do realize that if the young players are what you are hoping, they get expensive quickly, and you do realize White Sox fans don't usually spend much money on teams until they show them they can win, not by actually being in first place for months but by actually winning...I expect them to go after Machado. Whether they sign him is a different story, I would think it is probably slim, but for speculation sake, I wouldn't argue with anyone penciling him in a future line up. If they do, they aren't going to spend the money on another top guy. You want 2 or 3 , move off of Machado and there is a chance. I don't know how much, but I do think the White Sox will break their record for biggest contract, assuming most goes according to plan in 2018.
  3. So the White Sox will sign Machado and another high priced free agent. OK. That was fun. Now back to reality.
  4. 2013 Trump, the blame on a government shutdown is at the top. It is a terrible thing to have on a resume. In 100 years ,nobody will blame Boehner or Reid, it is all on Obama. The right guy would get everyone in a room and make a deal. 2018 The dealmaker has the job, but now if there is a shutdown blame the democrats. I really want to know where republicans get off crying about dems not "working with them". In 8 years did they ever once work with Obama?
  5. Trump in 2013, if there is a shutdown it would be a disaster and all Obama"s fault, because he is the leader and leaders get things done
  6. If Brady can't play, the Bellichick/Kraft relationship has to fray a bit more. Jimmy G as a back up would look pretty, pretty, pretty good right now.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 04:53 PM) Lie detector treats are garbage pseudoscience and that was a decent joke. You obviously don't watch Maury
  8. I am pretty sure if there was a rumor of Obama with a porn star, it would be a big deal.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 04:50 PM) There was no scandal behind the Susan Rice stuff like Nunes was claiming, though. That's one reason you should be skeptical.. I could link the journalists later if you'd like. It's no less than the people insisting that the memo actually means anything have. Ultimately the memo either contains legitimate information or it doesn't, and we won't know for sure unless the Republicans release it (which they can if they want) and their claims are verified. Given who wrote it and his history, I'm going to remain doubtful. Conversely, what have you seen from Nunes in the past that would give you a reason to treat him as a credible source? I don't always agree with Greenwald and think he has bad takes sometimes. I posted him because I know you like him. What do you think about his opinion on this? The R after his name obviously.
  10. What is going to happen with the Bulls? Do they go right away, or does the Swirsk finish out the season on WLS?
  11. So according to In Touch magazine, Stormy Daniels passed a lie detector when she talked about her affair that now has never happened with Trump back in 2011.
  12. 771 coal mining jobs added in Trump's first year. What an impact he made. He's doing tremendously well.
  13. WGN radio was losing $6 million a year broadcasting the Cubs, while paying them around $10 million. Pedestrian radio is very different from TV. It's not going to be a big money maker for any team or station.
  14. QUOTE (Latilleon @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 08:22 AM) This can't be a good sign for the upcoming TV deal can it? I doubt it.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 19, 2018 -> 08:12 AM) If they are losing money on the radio deal, that isn't a very good sign for the TV deal that comes up next year. That's how it goes on the radio. The reason the Cubs aren't on WGN anymore was because WGN was willing to lose some money on their broadcasts as they had been doing for years, just not as much as others. What they hope for is the people tuning in for the game, tune into other crap on their station.
  16. The White Sox and Bulls may be looking for a new radio home. Cumulus Media, which owns WLS, is trying to get out of their contract with the White Sox and Bulls. It will be heard in bankruptcy court on Feb. 1. The Sox don't get much from radio anyway, so I don't think it will kill future payrolls, but it will be interesting to see where they land.
  17. "I have joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people that cannot defend themselves. Nobody knows the system better than me, which is why I alone can fix it," DJT doing a swell job.
  18. QUOTE (Quin @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 02:43 PM) Gorka has an arrest warrant for gun charges in Hungary and did during his entire White House tenure. Extreme vetting. Trump only hires the best.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 01:41 PM) Sure, its been defined by many of their own members, including Bannon who called Breitbart the platform of the alt right. The alt right is generally inclusive of groups that have nationalistic ideologies sometimes rooted in hatred towards other ethnic or racial groups. Neo nazis, white supremacists, neo fascists and even far right evangelical groups. The AP defined the alt right as such: Here is a link to alt right leader Richard Spencer's definition of their ideology: https://altright.com/2017/08/11/what-it-mea...o-be-alt-right/ The term was originally coined in 2008 by Paul Gottfried, not the media. So trying to blame the media for its creation is inaccurate. He is a paleoconservative member of the alt right which is defined as: You did well on your test.
  20. The players wouldn't want a floor, because a floor comes with a ceiling. But a ceiling would be good for the game. Pittsburgh and KC each had short runs after about 25-30 years of totally sucking, now they are done. The only difference is in the playoffs, KC made 2 improbable comebacks and played in 2 WS and won 1, and the Pirates just lost all the time in the postseason. The current model isn't sustainable for most of the league.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 12:50 PM) Trump personally directed White House to have bannon clam up during his House questioning. https://t.co/Vafk52CqP1 Did Trump say Sloppy Steve didn't have a very big role in the WH? I wonder why he is so worried.
  22. QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:53 AM) It’s not as if the border was not discussed during the Clinton admin. Also its been explained over and over the funds will not be coming directly as cash from Mexico. It will me in form of the trade deficit. "I would build a great wall, and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me, and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great great wall on our southern border and I’ll have Mexico pay for that wall." Then have them pay for the wall. Why is he holding Dreamers hostage for wall funding? He has been in office over a year, surely he has addressed this trade deficit funding with Mexico. He's all about making deals. No one makes better deals, believe me. There should be enough to start his build. Why is it now, America, give me money for my wall or the DACAs have to go? And why isn't he concerned about drugs coming from the north? I doubt it has anything to do with white. Thankfully, it will be even cheaper to build as Kellyanne has pointed out just a couple of days ago, Trump has "discovered" there are many areas where a wall wouldn't be feasable, so it won't be almost 2000 miles long like he first had planned. It just amazes me that what seem like perfectly normal, educated people, will defend this guy no matter what, just because of the letter after his name. Many republicans do see him as the fraud he is, but there is his base who never will, and then those who will, but not until the next republican is in the WH.
  23. QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 11:36 AM) Nobody seems to get the point. As long as the media is s*** and people feel they are being lied to Trump will thrive. I mean come on folks. If Trump is as bad as we think he is why not play it straight above the fence? Why use photo shops, edit videos, peer pressure, shaming etc etc Nobody can answer this, specifically the tragedy that is CNN. I think they only help trumps popularity. “But FOX news” yeah they are s*** too. But I can tell you from an independent point of view CNN takes the cake. Stick with the issues guys. I was more inclined to vote liberal 20 years ago but all the white shaming, media deception, gang mentality, violence (yes I do think the violence from antifa is severaly underreported), I see them as communists. Say what you will about Trump, but until these things get fixed y’all don’t have much leg to stand on. Also a new trend I noticed with the left side is lack of compromise. You won’t admit being 1% wrong. It would be refreshing to hear if trump ever does something good because he has done good. I don’t agree with all the bullet points under the fake news awards but a more than a few items stick out in my mind as unquestionably true. The shame with networks like cnn though is even if he does lie, how can I believe it? New trend, lack of compromise? They must have learned that from the right when Obama was President. Did you sleep through those 8 years? Because you can see it. Why is he so worried about funding the wall? How many times did he say Mexico will pay for the way, believe me? Well, get the funds from them if you need a wall so badly. Now the Dreamers are pawns, and the military won't be paid, although they will have been paid until Feb 1, if the government shuts down over Dreamers, who need to get out of the country because they are evil, unless a wall is built, which makes them OK. Do you know over 900 Dreamers actually serve in the military. I'm surprised Trump didn't go after them first.
  24. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 10:06 AM) The original report came from Olney, not Heyman. And the offers might be higher but I'm skeptical that they're way higher, Boras isn't exactly an unbiased source. We still don't even know who else would put in a big offer for him besides Boston, there aren't any other obvious fits. It is what I am saying. Olney reports it, then Boras uses Heyman to say hey they actually are quite a bit higher.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 09:58 AM) Jon Heyman‏Verified account @JonHeyman 14h14 hours ago scott boras generally doesn't discuss offers or non offers, but he did say the report of a $100M five-year offer by boston for jd martinez is "not accurate." (me: that does seem off/improbable as an offer since cespedes got $27.5M per year) Heyman is known to be used and abused by Boras. Of course the offers are way higher.
