Marco Paddy & our Failures in the LatAm Market
Dick Allen replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He has been around for 6 years. I once read where the average DR prospect takes at least 7 years to develop, so at the very least, he isn't ahead of the curve, To be fair he took over an operation that was probably as low as you can go. I thin he has a couple more years at least before you can say he failed though. Some of these guys have to develop. But it is hard to pick out a 15 or 16 year old and say future star major leaguer. It's hard in any sport. I would imagine basketball would be the easiest. Lebron is a no brainer, but take these guys when they are sophomores and juniors in high school and project them in one of the hardest if not the hardest sport to project, is something where everyone fails. If the Sox didn't trade for Shields and all things remained the same, this thread probably does not exist. I do now at one of the seminars I was at during Soxfest last year, they were really projecting a Lat Am breakout in 2017. I don't think it happened to the scale they were hoping, maybe this year, but their development staff seemed pretty confident their LatAm signings would soon become household names to White Sox fans. -
Sox randomly linked to JD Martinez for some reason
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The White Sox aren't going to sign him. He is a great hitter, but there are red flags other than defensively he leaves a lot to be desired. In his 4 full major league seasons, he has missed at least 39 games 3 times, he is coming off a career year where he more than doubled his HR rate from the previous season. Regression is a real good possibility. And the White Sox aren't ready to contend in 2018, and really a lot would have to go right for it to happen in 2019, so you are paying for his logically most productive seasons for really no reason other than to say JD Martinez is on the roster, and they will have spent money for nothing they could have spent on need when it was more appropriate. -
Also this $1000 one time bonuses are based on service time. Most lower waged employees will get around $200. MAGA.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread

The White Sox are finally replacing the old ribbon board around the park. Supposedly it is longer and better. I just hope they can throw more things on it than basically ads. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 11:22 PM) I'm still Republican though as you all know I've not voted one for President in quite a while. And I'm a huge Jimmy Carter fan. I think Trump's comments usually suck. However did he really say this or not?? I want proof. How about 2 Senators one dem and one GOP confirmed?

What do some of the republican posters think of Trumps comments? They are as silent as republican politicians.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 05:57 PM) That same mlbtr model had Abreu at $17.9 million and he signed for $13 million today. Right, but they did say his case was unusual. I bet Avi signs for around $6.3 million. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 05:33 PM) Sox haven't gone to arbitration since 2001 with Keith Foulke. He'll lose IMO. The MLB trade rumors projection was $6.7 million. If it is still possible, I would bet they would probably split the difference, but the Sox figure does seem a little low, and Avi's not so crazy. You take the midway point between the 2 offers and I think Avi is worth that. I don't think it is worth what you have to do in arbitration to save hardly anything, and really, Unless the mlbtr model is really off, Avi should win. He has $425k in value to play with under their model and the Sox offer. -
Sox randomly linked to JD Martinez for some reason
Dick Allen replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am thinking as long as the payroll remains as low as it is they will be linked in some way as a possibility with all the high end guys. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 03:07 PM) Maybe I'm crazy but I feel like his hit percentage his last 2 drafts are exactly what he needs again. Maybe Trubisky will be a big hit, but Floyd, the jury is still out, and White, right now a bust. It isn't over for those two, and maybe all 3 will be Pro Bowlers eventually, but he does need his top draft pick to stay healthy and help the team win in year one. Looks like he did find some gems in later rounds. His free agent signings have to be more like Hicks.

Jose Abreu settles with Sox for $13 million
Dick Allen replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It seems Jose risked a heck of a lot opting into arb if he is only making $1.5 million more than he would have after a pretty big season. -
The Mooch saying Trump is the least racist person there is. Of course he did tell us Trump was better than Napoleon Dynamite's uncle Rico when it came to throwing a football, and could drain treys from way downtown even while wearing a long coat.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 01:34 PM) Maybe there is an extension in the works... Also I don't think Jose really cares much about projected contracts, considering where he's coming from. His agent does. I haven't seen the $13 million anywhere else. Maybe it is incorrect. -
Now the hard part, better players.

QUOTE (Tony @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 01:25 PM) Considering you told all of us before his last injury that it was nothing to worry about and you just assumed it wasn’t serious, this seems like a weird sword to die on. You'll see. He actually was throwing 98 with the injury. What Cooper said is right in line with what we all were told at the time of the injury. Now Rodon is screwed.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 01:17 PM) He also says, Clearly means him getting up to 88 again is a long shot. Read between the lines.
-
So basically if Cooper said anything other than Rodon is currently fine and throwing 98, this article shows he's pretty much done.
-
Welp. He did get everyone to stop talking about Russia.
-
Good thing he's a genius. My God, billions in taxpayer money would have been wasted. Praise to Trump: Kellyanne Conway says Trump has 'discovered' there are rivers and mountains on the border that make a physical wall unfeasible.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 10:02 AM) Presidents undergo annual physicals. It's not weird. Not weird for 44 presidents. Weird for 1.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:59 AM) Why on Earth does that seem odd to you? It's basically required of them. No it's not. It's kind of like releasing their taxes. This guy can not be healthy, and certainly not as healthy as was claimed by his doctor.
-
He's taking his physical today, which seems a bit odd to me. I am wondering if he wants to go back to his old life and will try to use this to bail, like his bone spurs. Make something up, he's got to go, Mike Pence, your turn, keep doing all the great things Trump has done.... Although that would contradict the healthiest person to ever be POTUS from 2016. I'm just wondering when they report he beat Kim Jong Un's record for 18 holes in golf.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:24 AM) I mean when we traded Miguel he had a pretty decent run of starts and he netted us DaQuan Forbes whom I didn't even remember until I googled it. These flip projects aren't that exciting to me. Seems better to catch lightning in a bottle for bullpen. That's why I think this really is more of an eat some innings than flip candidate. Like you said, he isn't going to be worth much more than he was when they traded him when he was on a roll, and he netted a 21 year old with a .588 OPS in high A. I would think if you wanted to just buy him from Texas, it wouldn't cost you anywhere near what Gonzalez will be paid. So he must be a good influence, and the probably hope he can eat some innings.

So apparently Trump thought the s***hole comment would play well. He made some calls last night to see how everyone liked it. When it was apparent it was a flop, he never said it. The world according to Trump.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 09:03 AM) Video of Durbin's statements: https://twitter.com/MPuccinelliCBS2/status/...820541488398336 Explicitly calls Trump's comments racist and says "you've seen the comments in the press, I've not read one of them that's inaccurate" I am not a fan of Durbin, but good for him for standing his ground and not covering even the slightest for the pig that is in the WH. He claimed yesterday he has a good relationship with Kim Jong Un but wouldn't comment when asked if he has every spoken to him. There's never been consequences in Trump's life. He doesn't want to pay someone, he either sues them to a point it's not worth fighting or declares bankruptcy. He gets sick of his wife, he finds another one. He lies through his teeth, it never f***ing matters. Make this baby start paying for what comes out of his Big Mac breath mouth.
