  1. I thought he got rid of the nervousness. He was fine the past couple of years. I would imagine being mostly a writer and then getting regular on air gigs , takes some adjusting. I liked his content. It wasn't just all fluff pieces like we will now see. But that sells a little better I guess. I think if Dan had some more time on his contract, he wouldn't have been laid off. I wonder if Scotty Pods will be back in a part time pre and post game role. I don't know what he added. I don't watch the Cubs much but was Patrick Mooney used on their telecasts as much as Dan was on the White Sox? Maybe they are starting to prepare for the Cubs fleeing and like Gonzo with the Tribune only in reverse, Mooney will switch to the White Sox when they flee.
  2. If they haven't decided by then, which to me is very unlikely, the attendance at the Bears/Cleveland game at Soldier Field on Christmas Eve will convince the McCaskeys change is needed.
  3. Trump wants a thank you from the UCLA basketball players. Without him, they would have been in jail for 10 years. Best. President. Ever.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 10:36 AM) Plenty of teams can offer his bat ABs. This is false. In fact being in the AL would cost him ABs because of the DH. If he started and the Sox didn't use the DH, you don't get the DH back once a reliever comes in. The Sox would either have relievers hitting or need potentially multiple pitch-hitters in a game if they went without the DH. If he went 6 innings, that is still 2ABs that need to be covered. If the latter were the case, they would need to carry a bigger bench than they have to cover the extra possibilities. The theory is he can DH on his off days. Having him actually play the field in between starts may be a problem. I don't think the White Sox have a chance in hell of getting this guy either. But if he is already giving up $100 million, what's a few more?
  5. The White Sox can offer the guy $300k plus the posting fee. Scouting him is nice, but not really necessary. Everyone knows he's worth the max the Sox can offer. With a guy like Verlander, he has a lot of miles and how he was currently throwing was of the upmost importance, considering age and contract.
  6. President Hannity has given Roy Moore 24 hours to straighten out all of his issues or he must drop out. But Bill Clinton...
  7. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 11:10 PM) 8/22/80. *Sigh* Goes to show you how quickly things can change. On this day, Bill Veeck announced that he would be selling the Sox to the ridiculously wealthy Edward DeBartolo. Harry Caray, in this video, is practically beside himself in his exuberance about the prospect. His excitement is like that of a kid on Christmas morning as he talks about how the White Sox fan experience would change, with the team going from the poorhouse to the penthouse in terms of far greater resources available that would significantly enhance the team’s ability to compete. That was August of 1980. In five short months, Harry would, indeed, wake up to a new owner, a new boss, but it would not be DeBartolo and his very deep pockets. A rather different reality awaited him in January 1981. Then, just ten months later, he would end his 11 year career as Voice of the White Sox due to deep concerns about the group who bought the club instead of DeBartolo. Chief among those concerns was what seemed to him some risky and crazy concept called “SportsVision” that was being peddled to him. He would turn out to be very clairvoyant with those concerns. The rest, of course, is history. Caray would simply move up to the north side where he’d spend the rest of his career, 17 years, being the primary force in transforming the Cubs into a national phenomenon. *Sigh* LMAO. Go check out how well DeBartolo's Pittsburgh Penquins did while he owned them. They did win one championship, then he sold. They were Bill Wirtz Blackhawks for most of his 14 years. But I'm sure if he had bought the White Sox, everything would have been peaches and cream.
  8. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 07:32 AM) Is it also possible that JR wouldn't want to pay the $20 million posting fee if he did sign with us? Aren't the Sox paying Robert this year? Considering what they would have to pay him, and what kind of revenue he would generate just from Japan, $20 million is something JR would love to pay.
  9. Greg probably heard the Rush Limbaugh said Roy Moore's behavior can be explained. He was a democrat when he was hitting on high school freshman. Now that he is a republican he would never do that.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2017 -> 04:19 PM) Yeah, that's a no This exact question was brought up in a q and a I was at in September, and I did report he answered it just like he answered here. I would imagine if there was a spot and he was dirt cheap, they would have no problem bringing him back. But they aren't going to pay him even what they paid Holland last year.
  11. Supposedly 12 people got laid off. Dan was one, Jim Corno Jr. another. I don't think this will have much impact on the next White Sox TV deal unless Dan Hayes was making leBron money. It appears Dan's contract expired. It looks like they took they easy way with layoffs. Sierra Santos is also on the Sox beat, and I am sure she is a nice woman, but she can't hang with Dan baseball-wise. But that might not be what is important anymore. Since they are going with pregame shows even when the team is on another channel, you would think Dan's services would be needed even more. I guess not.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 13, 2017 -> 05:56 PM) In reference to Southsider and Dick Allen, you're both kind of correct. I've seen those numbers stated as fact and it doesn't really make sense. There are teams with $$ available that can still be traded all the way up to June 15th. For example, the White Sox have a budget of $4.25 million. They spent 600K that is accounted for on 2 players. They traded an undisclosed amount to Arizona and Texas. They could still have $2 million left for all we know. They could theoretically trade that money to a team that has $3 million left and that team would then have $5 million to offer Otani. This is almost impossible to predict until BA releases their International Signing Reviews for every team. The most the White Sox can offer any player despite what they may have in their pool is $300k. The numbers are what supposedly each team has available at the moment to offer him. Some teams have already spent almost all their money. It would be interesting to see if trading a huge hunk of the pool money this year may net you more than it would normally. But it would probably be some contingent trade, and I am not too sure those are allowed. If the Sox trading most of their pool money is the thing that puts Otani in a team's uniform, you would have to think it would be worth a couple of really good prospects. Not the lottery picks normally traded for pool money.
  13. OB and Hampton going after Fox for challenging the Cunningham play. I wonder if anyone will point out to them that A. Fox gets told whether to challenge or not and B. GB would have challenged the play anyway. I do agree the gameplan sucked. When Chris Speilman is giving your offense crap, it's crap.
  14. McConnell says he misspoke when he said no one in the middle class would get a tax increase under their new make the rich richer scheme.
  15. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) For me, this part is all about education, and it's about consent. You drill into your son that (a) a woman can't consent when she's drunk; (b) that consent is the most important thing when it comes to sexual encounters; and © if you are unsure, don't do it because if you are wrong, you might ruin your life. It's easier to say this than to do this, and I had my fair share of drunken hookups in college. But sex is just like entering into a contract. Both parties have to have the capacity to consent. Teach your sons that and hope they make the right decisions. A neighbor of mine is a retired CPD detective. He once told me you wouldn't believe how many hungover DePaul coeds came into the station on a Saturday and Sunday morning claiming they were raped. 99 times out of 100, they would leave after being questioned without pressing charges.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) But it is bloodlust. Why the hell does this guy owe you or me an apology? He owes these women apologies...you know, the ones he actually harmed. I don't know either party. He doesn't owe me anything. He's apologizing to the rest of us to hopefully save his career. Once everyone knows what he is, do they really want to go see him perform, or watch his movies, or TV shows? It's publicity. Some people donate money and other things anonymously. Others have to make sure as many people know about it as possible IMO, this is pretty similar.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) For me, it's just the fact that I don't give a f*** about apologies. I'm immune to them, they mean nothing to me at this point(granted it doesn't matter what I think but just sharing my opinion). Like I said, he may very well be sorry for what he did, he may very well be sorry he just got caught, I don't know and I don't care. Fact is, dude is a creep and an apology whether it's sincere or not isn't going to change that for me. For me, it's the publicists playbook. Apologize. Go to rehab. Everyone gets second chances. Louis CK got several chances and did the exact same thing over and over and over again. Once it was apparent his career was in jeopardy, boy is he sorry. There are some people who truly are sorry when they do something wrong. But in my book, it doesn't have to take the threat of losing something, a career, freedom, whatever, for them to come to the conclusion they screwed up. I just ask myself with these dopes, would they be so apologetic if their careers weren't going to take a hit? I haven't had one yet where I would think yes. Maybe Dustin Hoffman.
  18. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) I didn't apologize until this movement. Does that make me a s***ty human as well? Or does it just make me human? Dunno. Were you using your position to keep the person you ultimately apologized to, silent? Were you denying any issue when questioned? Did it take your career to go down the toilet to come clean? If this NYT article wasn't in the pipeline , would his movie have premiered? Would he have issued this apology today? I don't know what you did, but there are several women this guy just whipped it out in front of and started whacking. I would imagine there are more than a couple more who haven't come forward. That's not a human mistake. That's a sick bastard. I understand people make mistakes, but this has been an issue with this guy for a long time, and how it upset others didn't seem to bother him until he realized it was going to cost him his livelihood. His victims livelihood meant s*** to him.
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) I mean, why would you apologize publicly before you're caught? When all this started I reached out an apologized to an ex for a past transgression that'd been eating away at me for a long time, similar to what CK describes, but I hadn't had the guts or the push to make amends (the relationship didn't end well). The #MeToo movement caused me to do so. But I did it privately. If I were a public figure, should I have been expected to make that apology publicly? Not taking a side on this, just honestly asking for perspectives. He could have apologized privately years ago. He apologizes now when everyone is going down. There were rumors upon rumors upon rumors with this guy. If he would have done that say up to 6 months ago, he may not have had this story in the NYT. The fact that so many guys are apologizing, to me shows they have done this to many, many women and/or men or children. If it was just a one off, they most likely would be doing what Jeremy Piven is doing, denying it, making it he said/she said. You have a few more to back up similar claims, you can't do this.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 02:01 PM) Eff that. Maybe it reads like that in a vacuum. This crap has been going on for years with this guy and everyone knows it. There have been all sorts of attempts to silence people. Where was his remorse back then? Today he realizes remorse when they cancel his movie opening? Screw him. I agree with this. The women have been upset about this for a long time, and it wasn't a big secret. He said nothing until it cost him money. NYT expose, s*** got real. Time to apologize. His agent even may have messed with the accusers' careers.
  21. I guess State, I mean Fox News refuses to accept anything other than whatever the right proposes, it's great for everyone. Policy Institute founder Simon Rosenberg appeared on Fox News and tried to make a point about how the proposed Republican tax plan would actually raise taxes on middle-income families as time passes. “Over time, a majority of middle-class people will be paying more in taxes rather than less,” he explained. Fox News host Melissa Francis didn't like the numbers he was using, so she told him they didn't count. “No, no, I don’t accept that math. It’s static analysis, and I don’t accept static analysis. I only agree with dynamic analysis, because when you cut, the economy’s going to grow. Rosenberg walked off the set.
  22. Donald J. Trump ✔@realDonaldTrump Spoke to Roy Moore of Alabama last night for the first time. Sounds like a really great guy who ran a fantastic race. He will help to #MAGA! 4:56 AM - Sep 27, 2017
  23. Much like his travel ban, Trump popping off about CNN being fake news and his desire for the justice department to go after his perceived enemies, could work against him if the ATT/ Time Warner merger goes to court legal experts are saying. Or I should say, many people are saying.....believe me.
  24. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Nov 10, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) Martellus Bennett is just like Brandon Marshall- no matter what team signs them despite all of the past baggage, fan bases can't wait to watch them play for their team. When will people learn? And just think, Emery and Trestman thought it would be a good idea to have them both on the same team at once. For a year, it was pretty good. The Bears had an actual offense.
  25. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 9, 2017 -> 07:08 PM) I sure hope we see more in the corporate world as well. Its rampant. My wife was sexually harassed interviewing for a law job with EEOC many years ago. It is everywhere. She was going to file a charge, but was worried her name would be mud, and her career would be over before it began. Of course that is where long dong Silver came from. Anita Hill wasn't lying.
