  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:10 PM) Well aware. Curious to the comment about the owners profits. I think teams should have their byes preceding TNF weeks 4-14 or however it works out. If you are going to have any less than the 15 games, the profits will be cut because the number of broadcasts would be cut. If you went to a bye week for a Thursday night between week 4 and 14, there would be teams crying about fairness. It really is an impossibility to make everyone happy. IMO, just bag the game even if it costs each team $14 million a year. Thursday is a ridiculous night to play but they don't want to step on HS football toes on Friday or college football on Saturday, so they risk the health of hundreds of players for an extra pay day.
  2. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:47 PM) TV broadcast deals are a big chunk of the league's $$$, right? there are only 7 bye weeks, so you'd have seven TNF games at most. I guess you can start adding more bye weeks, but teams might complain about having a bye week at either the start of the season (not needed, more wear and less rest later on) or the end of the season (could mess up playoff races). Yes, when teams got their bye week would be a huge issue. I get it for Thanksgiving, but every damn week? These guys need some recovery time. The games aren't going to be of the finest quality. Both the Bears and GB went to OT, and on top of that, GB had the late game, another 3 hours less to recover.
  3. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) It's (partially) raising the bottom rate from 10% to 12%. but as we saw from dumping an extra $89 billion into the Pentagon recently without a single person asking "But how will we pay for?!", nobody actually cares about the debt or the deficit except as a cudgel to beat the opposition's policies with. Whatever they do, the richest of the rich will get a nice break, someone who can't afford to be screwed will get screwed, and they will claim they will be paid for by some BS which will only increase the debt, something republicans have said over and over again can't happen, but in true republican style, it can happen if they get the benefit.
  4. I just wonder how he is going to pay for these "tremendous" tax cuts he's selling now. Is getting rid of loopholes that lower your tax burden, so you wind up paying the same amount or more of tax really a tax cut? He'll sell it as one, and the idiots with their made in China Trump swag will buy it.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) yep It kind of makes you wonder what would happen if something horrific happened in Chicago. Didn't vote for him, Sanctuary city. Doesn't like the mayor. I guess NYC would be OK aid wise since his home is there even though they voted against him 9-1. They knew the con.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Not disagreeing, but how would the scenario you're suggesting affect the owner's profit margin? Another national broadcast. CBS and NBC pay a combined $450 million a year for it.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:21 PM) With Trump... you almost hit on the right answer. The voted for him. So why would it hurt to relax some rules and let foreign ships in a little easier to help these people if Trump doesn't want to spend the money for no votes at the end of the day? He's practically treating Puerto Rico as a foreign country anyways.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Except Texas isn't really that white, but OK. They only have the second biggest Hispanic population percentage in the US and about 10 million Hispanic residents. Oh I know, they try to keep them from voting, but they have white people so you have to bite the bullet , and have some electoral votes. f*** em if they can't vote for you. Great policy.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) So Puerto Rico is practically begging for help. The Sec of State in Texas said all they needed were prayers, yet only US ships into Puerto Rico, but waivers for Texas. Gee, I wonder why. Puerto Rico needs to be able to vote and get a bit whiter,
  10. Trump seems more interested in Puerto Rico's "massive debt" than saving lives. You would think massive debt would be a merit badge to him since he has so much himself.
  11. Moncada out. Abreu out. Shields on the mound. What are the odds the gamethread gets to page 3.
  12. It might be just the number eminor is complaining about , like is there really a big difference between 98 RBI and 100, or if they made it 30 HR instead of 25, he isn't in the club, but in 2014 11 players hit 25 and 100. In 2015, again Abreu was 1 of 11. In 2016 he was 1 of 20. This year it looks like there may be near 30. It's still pretty, pretty, pretty, good, especially since he was on some awful offensive teams.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 12:37 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen‏Verified account @CST_soxvan 17h17 hours ago Jose Abreu rests bruised shin day after getting 100th RBI http://bit.ly/2wQ6kib via @suntimes He was limping pretty badly on Saturday. Wasn't busting it to first. He was really hurting.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Just for the fun of it, I checked out some names. Paulie was a no, Magglio is a yes from 1999-2002 and was one RBI away in 03 from 5 years in a row. Those were great hitters. I wonder if they would have been able to do that if they played on the teams Abreu played on. I think Frank would have walked 250 times a year. Maggs was great, but he didn't have .285 OBP guys in front of him, but he probably was a better hitter than Abreu. Those were different times. I think the 2000 White Sox a a line up that featured 8 guys with .800+ OPS.
  15. There aren't a lot of non HOF players that have hit 25 homers and have driven in 100 four consecutives years anyway. Joe Carter is one off my head I'm pretty sure did it. Has any White Sox other than Frank Thomas done it? I'm guessing no. And while he is older an more experienced in a foreign league, that has to be at least partially offset by being in a new country, with people you don't know. Everything for him was new. It amazes me how some of these guys acclimate pretty quickly. Especially the Cubans who are away from their families.
  16. Also the Bears have 1 full practice before Thursday's game. No way Trubisky starts. I will concede their handling of the entire thing is baffling. Fox really is in a no win situation. They have to win for his job, yet their biggest asset over the offseason was used for a QB they don't want to play, yet, they make him the back up. I do think things can change after this game if Glennon is bad because of the extra practice time, but if they don't want to put Trubisky in on Monday night if Glennon craps the bed again, they have to go to Sanchez .
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 01:25 PM) But OBP is more important than SLG. I'd rather have the .322 OBP and .417 SLG than the .305 OBP and .450 SLG. To me, that depends on who it is. If it's a guy who can run like the wind, I'll take the OBP.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Of course not, but we shouldn't pretend that he was a "rookie." I love Jose and what he's done, but trying to drum up "wows" by saying he's ONLY THE THIRD PLAYER EVER in a specific group top do something, when he's only AMONG that group (rookies) because of a technicality, is pretty lame. I read where the Cuban league is A ball or maybe AA. Plus he was adjusting his entire life in a new country without his family. He was only the 3rd player ever. Others have come from other countries, and he's the first to do that. It is a big accomplishment. If its such a technicality how come no other foreign player has done it?
  19. So I had my Echo on and listened to Hampton and OB after the game. I am really starting to believe they want the Bears to lose for the complaining. They have made their beds and now if they win, they are still pissed off. A caller mentioned that he had seen their entire careers and they had played on some real lousy teams, and they just tried to humiliate the guy. Its funny for a while. They definitely are catering to the Superfan type of person. Ditka, sausage, Bears.... But from how they ripped everyone from Fox on down, you would have thought they lost 50-0 yesterday. We all know Cooper made one of the dumbest plays in history, but OB, that isn't Fox's fault. It isn't his position coach's fault. I get it, you think they suck, but it isn't their fault. Yeah, Fox tried to make a laugh out of it a bit at his press conference. What good does having an anuerism over it at that stage do?
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Buying him out now was the right move. He clearly didn't want to be part of a rebuilding team and Bulls front office had to know this was something they'd be dealing with when they decided to move Butler. It was the right move now. The right move a year ago was to ignore him. He played the Bulls when he was a legit star free agent, and he played them for a payday again last year.
  21. Anyone in St. Louis familiar with the Trump nomination for US Attorney, Jeff Jensen? I grew up with him and he was a really good guy. He comes from a great family. He went to Indiana, graduated with an Accounting degree, tried that for a year or so, didn't like it, became an FBI agent. Did that for about a decade, went to law school at night, and became a prosecutor for a bit before opening his own firm. He father is a retired FBI agent who is a big advocate for the homeless and mentally ill in the Northwest suburbs. I haven't been in contact with him for many years, and don't know Jeff's politics, but I would imagine it is based at least a bit toward the right since he's a Trump nominee. I just wonder if the people in St. Louis know more.
  22. Thursday night games suck. Both the Bears and GB played OT in really hot conditions. Thursday has sloppy written all over it.
  23. So $39 million for 1 year of an over the hill Dwayne Wade. Nice move GarPax. He played you again.
  24. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:50 AM) Is Trump going to address the 3.5 million people in Puerto Rico that are without power and clean water or is he just going to give more racist speeches down in Alabama? Since they are unable to participate in the Presidential election, they will be ignored by this idiot.
  25. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 08:28 AM) Trump is making a huge mistake taking on the NFL and its players. These are some very influential people, especially to younger Americans, who will (hopefully) be voting in 2018 and 2020. If the players stick to what they believe and start communicating that the American people need to speak up and do something about it, things will look pretty grim for the Republican party and Trump. The one thing I can't get past is how Trump and many of his supporters believe that the neo Nazis and white suprematists are better than these football players who are peacefully protesting by kneeling or not participating in the national anthem. I see posts by some of my Facebook friends, and I'm appalled. It's hard for me to believe that people I know actually feel that way. It's very sad and disturbing what is going on in this country. For many, its a black and white issue. I don't think it was just coincidence Trump popped this one off in Alabama. Puerto Rico is disaster area, Health care, tax reform, and Trump wastes his time on this...Trying to divide the country is disrespecting the flag. Fire that son of a b****.
