  1. Trading him is only plausible if another team cooperates and pays up to get him. It doesn't do any good to trade him for someone who it would take a miracle for them to outperform him. There is no need for a salary dump. To me, Hahn would like to sell him high if he could. But kudos to Avi for having a great year. Whether it's "sustainable" is for everyone to argue, but he already has sustained it a lot longer than anyone would have thought. He's still learning. We will see what happens, but in baseball, sometimes things change. Todd Frazier is a walk machine now. Who would have thought that?
  2. Swarzak, Kahnle, and Robertson all will probably have 90 strikeouts this year. Pretty incredible.
  3. There are other factors. If they went for it, they would have added some vets for sure. Avi might not even have been brought back. They might have made the playoffs, they might not have made the playoffs, but the guys everyone, including myself, were absolute on, wouldn't have played much, so you wouldn't have seen Yolmer or Leury or Avi look like actual major leaguers. Davidson still pretty much sucks, but you could have made some money off me saying he would have hit 24 more homers in the major leagues a year ago. Time will tell with their young players. This week they all look great, next week there may be a thread or two about worrying about if they ever amount to anything. The path was chosen, hopefully weeks like this last one become fairly normal.
  4. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) Why do you think he'll suddenly hit more HRs? Because he has already started to hit more. He's missed many games. Health is never a guarantee, but if he was healthy for this entire season, 25 homers isn't very crazy. Last homestand they had listed some of his homers on the scoreboard. He has hit 8 up until then that went at least 423 feet. He has enormous power. A slight tweak to his launch angle and who knows what happens. I was reading an article about Justin Turner and his turnaround from nothing to all star. They said he spent a winter with Marlon Byrd. The first thing I thought about after reading that was he was juicing, but it all was about launch angle. Avi hits the ball hard as often as just about anyone. If he ever becomes a flyball hitter, he will be a star.
  5. Avi's BABIP may regress, but I also think he will be hitting more homers. I don't think anyone expects him to hit .333. But if he hits .285-.300 and hits 25-30 homers, he's a lot better than anyone thought coming into this year when people were upset the Sox gave him $3 million and weren't giving Rymer Liriano a shot at playing.
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) So with all the cord cutters, why has MLB Network, NFL Network, FS1 and NBCSN all have increases in viewership since 2012? https://www.google.com/amp/amp.awfulannounc...a-playoffs.html A lot more games being shown than before, and available on more systems than before. Either that or Curt Schilling started scaring them away https://www.mediamatters.org/blog/2015/08/2...book-pos/205146
  7. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Naturally the only one without a hit is the DH. I think his back must be bothering him. He has looked lost all year. You would think he would have had a decent streak at least once or twice.
  8. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Man I hope they do this when I go to the game tomorrow Usually when teams do this, the next game it seems like they barely eek out runs. But they have been on a pretty decent roll with the bats lately. A roll I can't remember for years.
  9. There is always somebody. 0-6 for Saladino.
  10. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) This offense is going to be scary next season and even scarier in 2019 Until recently, the Sox offense has only been scary to White Sox fans this season.
  11. Ron will fix em. That's Abreu and Moncada. Who is next? Fulmer? Collins?
  12. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) True, he doesn't have that kind of track record, especially with his injuries, but if he stays on the team next year and produces similarly to this year, would you say he has earned that contract? If you were going to extend him, now would be the time. Another great season, his price tag goes higher, but it's more of chance he is for real. I think Hahn tries to get a top prospect or 2 and lets another team either take that chance or pay him for the next 2 seasons. When Avi is free again, if he wants, he can pursue him then. Where they are at, probably selling him to the highest bidder IMO. Same with Abreu. If these guys become free agents in a couple of years, they could always be brought back.
  13. QUOTE (Scoots @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:29 PM) Just curious...when did it sound like Hahn was not commited to Avi? Haven't heard this language from him yet. I heard it at a season ticketholder event. Same with Abreu. Hahn didn't seem sold on Avi's sustainability for one thing. I do think if he traded him and got something, and Avi did prove to be the real deal, he would be interested in bringing him back. But if they could get something now, it makes some sense to let Avi prove himself elsewhere when the games here don't mean much.
  14. Soix had 3 guys in the line up when the game started with a .310 OBP or higher. 18 baserunners in 6 innings. Detroit may get the top pick. They usually get killed since they liquidated their roster.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) Personal attacks again? Geesh. If that is a personal attack, ban me. If it isn't, apologize.
  16. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Me saying FoxNews is groupthink before you continue to berate me for not acknowledging my point. Also talk about how the changes television face play a role. Me addressing Ditka. So I addressed all your points. You called me a coward. When you had to resort to name calling that says it all about you. I said your answer was coward-like. That is not calling you a coward. But I linked the Ditka article where HE SAID working from home was HIS IDEA, and you didn't address that. AT ALL. How about now? And you ignore cord cutting. ESPN isn't the only station losing subscribers. So is Cartoon Network, and I haven't seen any political tweets from Spongebob Squarepants.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Proving my point DA. You're a winner and I'm a loser. You can see me address these points within this thread but just ignore that. I just try to have a discussion with this stuff but you're so bent on being right it becomes a chore. I'll let you be so you can go rehash some Beckham and Cooper arguments since you seem to agree with everyone else back here. I'm going to go to the tailor, pick up my pants and sulk In defeat at another internet loss at the hands of DA. A coward like answer. Make outrageeous claims, get shown some things that may be facts, ignore, take your ball and go home. I am waiting for you to address the points you said you addressed. Why would Ditka say working from home was his idea? Why would Forbes, not exactly a liberal publication report ESPN's numbers are down from cord cutting, although there revenue is fine? Is Fox News groupthink?
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) Well I always have multiple people in this sub forum disagreeing with me and I can't respond to everyone. I've made my point to you and you to me so at some point there's nothing constructive to come of continuing on. You can chalk it up as another victory for DA though. Ditka says leaving was his idea. Forbes says ESPN's subscriptions are from cord cutting, won't answer Fox News, so you post this. You were wrong, and just can't admit it.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) I was not familiar ABC/Disney fired a future president for ripping Obama. ESPN is not conspiring to make money. They are conspiring to make influence. Check out their viewers and subscription numbers since they've infused leftist politics into sports. Politics? Really? https://www.forbes.com/sites/greatspeculati...t/#47709a907a59 You didn't answer this before, what about Fox News? Groupthink or not? Do you have a problem with how they play political? Or is it because you have the same views, it's OK?
  20. Looks like someone is getting a Portillo's beef. Avi could go 1-47 and still be hitting .300.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 01:31 PM) 14th time Abreu has been HBP, make em pay Avi! He used to get drilled a lot more in Cuba.
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:59 PM) They removed him from his role. You can semantic it any way you want since it's your perogotative to defend them. He has trashed ESPN since. I will use Ditka's own statement. That should be good enough for you. Facts suck when they don't support the cause. Someone happy he was sticking around even after referring to Obama as the worst President ever? http://ftw.usatoday.com/2016/03/mike-ditka-countdown-espn
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) And DA There was nothing dramatic about that post. I never said that all of ESPN's misdeeds happened during games. Not sure why that even matters. They only punish employees of certain beliefs. That was the points. Their track record is irrefutable at this point. So you won't watch a game you wanted to see if it was broadcast on ESPN because some host of some show nobody watches called out Trump on Twitter? And you are saying they have ruined sports viewing for many because of political tweets? More people watch ESPN's NFL draft than watch the World Series. Did you have any problem with Schillings tweets. like when he was calling out Hillary, before the one that broke the camels back? Was that ruining it for you? Did you have a problem with Ditka being a card carrying Republican, who even considered running against Obama for Senator? Or did it all all apart when liberals started tweeting? Y
  24. BTW, Ditka wasn't fired from ESPN. He wanted to cut back on travel.
