QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) If Melky was put on waivers and claimed, would the Sox let the team have him for nothing? I vote yes. I think they would try to trade him and eat money, but if they didn't want to give up something legitimate...they would then let the other team have him. Just like what happened to them and Alex Rios.

Should Giolito pitch in Chicago this year?

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) I'm not entirely sold there's a huge benefit to having these guys with Coop for a couple months or that it will drastically change their future development regardless. I'd be fine letting them finish off their AAA season and call it a year. Give them both a chance to win a rotation spot in spring training. At this point I think I would save the additional option year and just start next year fresh. They were with Coop all spring and both struggled at the beginning of the year. They somehow turned it around without him. I agree, I don't know why being around Coop is so important. They will get to be around him all of next year. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) I wouldn't really call it legitimate, just more of the same. This isn't an either/or. I think even you know that. The coaching/experience are more important than the actual results of the games at this point. They are going to take their lumps, whether it is now or 2020. Really? Most here want the Sox to lose every game they play. As I stated, Giolitto will be way beyond his career high in IP by the end of the minor league season. It isn't like these guys have to get MLB time in September to prepare for next year. The team is going to be horrible behind them and a horrible bullpen to relieve them. It's a no win situation. I don't know why anyone would want to throw their prized possessions into a situation like that when it isn't necessary. They can do that next season, when the roster is wide open and winning games isn't expected. As we have seen in the past, September games don't exactly project future success or failure. There are legitimate reasons not to call them up, although I think Gonzalez will get traded and Lopez will get the call shortly. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Forget it, he's rolling. Typical SS2k5 response. Doesn't add a thing to the discussion just a jab at a poster who has a legitimate point. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 10:46 AM) Rookie pitchers sometimes struggle? So we should be hoping they get called up and cheering for them to struggle so they won't kill the draft order? Lopez, maybe. Giolitto will be way beyond his career high in IP by the time the minor league season ends. And next year is wide open for development. Send him home. -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 28, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) Except one dude wouldn't stop bragging about all the B-list celebrities he had hanging out in his extra fancy basement man cave. Come to think of it, Danny Mac basically became Mike North at the end. Danny Mac talking about his HS football career making him an expert on all things football was a little Al Bundy-like.

Why do posters want Lopez and Giolitto to pitch in Chicago in games they want them to lose? -

BIG PELF TO THE RESCUE!!! July 27th Game Thread: White Sox
Dick Allen replied to chetkincaid's topic in 2017 Season in Review
Pelfrey gets lifted in the 4 th or 5th. These are gift games for the Cubs. Baseball is one of the most random games, but they have no excuse if they lose tonight. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) Anderson hitting leadoff tonight. That's something I've never understood. Does it make more sense than this Batting 5th, the Designated Hitter, Tyler Saladino. .202/.292/.271?

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Rookie pitchers are usually painful to watch. Kopech might be an exception. Lopez does have some experience. Giolitto, very little, maybe they can be effective, but I wouldn't count on it. A lot of 3 ball ABs. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) I feel like he is being sarcastic Gonzalez may have some suitors but no significant return. Who would want Holland and Pelfrey on the mound for them in a pennant race? I don't think they want to trade Abreu, so really Melky and Gonzalez, and Melky may be an August guy are the 2 left to move. Then this winter will be incredibly dull. Everyone will be in their best shape and look better than ever on the field for spring training. Then the season will commence, as will the long losing streaks. The draft will occur. Everyone will declare Hostetler a genius. Then more losing, maybe a couple of call ups in August and September for some hope, then offseason 2018-2019 which will be either extremely interesting or extremely dull, depending on the development. -
Dan Jennings Traded to TB for Casey Gillaspie

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Source? Not doubting you, I just don't remember seeing this. David Kaplan was talking to him. Former White Sox DJ Carrasco. -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) Such a bummer he got hurt, he really has been a quality pitcher for the White Sox (outside of that stretch where he was pitching banged up this season). I do know the Dodgers had a scout at his start vs. the Cubs on Monday when he was stellar specifically looking at him. -

Dick Allen replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It probably is what Jennings is worth, but no excitement whatsoever from me over him. Offensive struggles is something the White Sox haven't been able to fix in years. I don't know why it would start now. Given his defensive position, he is going to have to hit a lot to be a viable player. I don't see getting traded to the White Sox organization his big break. -

QUOTE (mac9001 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:29 AM) Also, i'm surprised Bummer is getting the promotion. I would have figured Clark or Purke would be the next lefty up. For the name alone, Bummer is a good call. -

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) Wow, is there a point where we say, "Enough is enough, we can let the big league team be TOO bad"? If this guy turns into a decent player, no. Jennings has 2 years of arb left, and won't be too expensive, but he serves no purpose if they aren't trying to win. He probably won't be worth more than he is now. Next year they will probably suck worse than this, but they have to be careful because several of the better prospects will probably be on the team, and you don't want to bury them and their confidence. -

Dick Allen replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jennings wasn't great, but he was involved in so many games. If he didn't get in, he probably warmed up once or twice. Now Holmberg the only lefty. I still have tickets for 13 games. It's going to be very ugly. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 27, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) It Haha it doesn't really matter as long as we draft top 3. It's all about the bonus pool allocation though. It starts to drop off pretty steadily. Yes, but if you are drafting BPA, and I have no idea why you wouldn't with a top 3 pick, most of that pool is eaten up giving the draftees anywhere near their slot, which I think most expect.

It's all going to be about development. If they can develop these guys, the team will be really good. If they can't, it will be what it is now, unwatchable.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:18 PM) How long has his thumb been injured? Could that explain his recent slump? It has been a while, so it is a possibility.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) McCain voted NO on clean repeal. His yes vote wasn't for a final bill, but for adding the BCRA to the AHCA bill. Don't agree with it and think it goes against the spirit of his speech, but it doesn't technically violate the letter of the speech. He didn't vote for the bill "as it stood" but as an amendment to the AHCA bill that would continue to be reworked and receive additional amendments. Not defending, just explaining. I really enjoy your posts, but I don't get the McCain admiration. If it comes down to one vote, his vote in the end, he isn't going to vote for what you want. He isn't going o be a hero to Americans, he will be a hero to the Republican Party and their fake republican leader who has bashed him for being a POW.

Reinsdorf Needed Convincing to Trade with Cubs
Dick Allen replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) He literally said "Cubs fans hate the Sox and Sox fans hate the Cubs," as if we all hate each other. That is not true. Never said they weren't rivals, just said I don't hate them save 4 games a year. I think most diehard White Sox fans in the Chicago area hate the Cubs. Every single one I know does. I don't hate their fans. I have friends and family that love those schmucks. And the BS that Cubs fans don't care one bit about the White Sox is totally BS as well. Go to Wrigley when the Sox are there. You would think it was a WS game. Go to the vendors outside the park. No problem buying a Sox suck shirt or a fake 1983 t shirt jersey with SUX on it. -
Reinsdorf Needed Convincing to Trade with Cubs
Dick Allen replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think most people if they lived in the Chicago area could understand the chip many of us have on our shoulders concerning the Cubs. They always have received top billing. Back in the 1993 playoffs, when if you made the playoffs you were in the ALCS, the Sox made it. Of course Michael Jordan retires. Turn on the news, watch the sports, first story MJ, understandable, second story, Cubs fire Jim Lebvevre (sp). 3rd story, oh yeah the Sox are playing in the playoffs tonight.
