  1. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 07:24 AM) I don't think Frazier represents an up grade to either Bosox or Yanks. Yanks have Torreyes and Headley. Bosox have Lin/Holt/Marerro to choose from, with Devers waiting in the wings. Niether team wants to call up the prospect. I think Frazier would probably play more 1B in NY, but he is definitely an upgrad over Lin/Holt/Marerro. You are buying the ESPN hype if you refuse to see that. He is far superior.
  2. Before trading Kahnle, I would have to study how many guys went from not being able to throw a strike to being able to pound the glove, and how often that is just temporary. I said it in the game thread, right now he is the right handed Matt Thornton. With his stuff, he isn't going to be hit hard if he has any semblance of control.
  3. This rebuild better work. This team is going to be so terrible. I spend money watching them. I get what they have to do, but I am not so sure the right guys are running the show. They get prais d now, but the were praised for going for it in 2015. Praised for what they brought in prior to 2016. Praised for the 2016 draft. Praised for the 3 trades. So far, 2015 and 2016 were busts. The 2016 draft, and it is admittedly way too early, but doesn't look like it was full of future stars, and the trades are still maybe. After the deadline deals, this team is basically dark until the next draft. This winter is going to be boring unless they do some prospect for prospect deals, which at a high level, I would doubt. They won't really have anyone to trade. Next season will be nad on the field at the major league level. I just hope some of these guys who will take up so,e roster spots show some hope.
  4. Any of the teams looking for relievers play Seattle a lot? DRob has faced them 29 times. 28 times were scoreless.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 12:35 PM) I feel like Boston should have gotten Frazier like a month ago. They want to stay out of the luxury tax.
  6. tommy Kahnle is the right handed Matt Thornton, as long as he throws strikes, he will make a lot of money.
  7. 8 days after meeting with Jr. The Russian attorney got a front row seat at a Foreign Affairs committee hearing from the husband of Trump's Florida campaign chair. It's all a coincidence. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/russian-law...ory?id=48661448
  8. Let's not get ahead of ourselves. This guy was basically acquired for free, so definitely worth it., just in case. But in the low levels he hits like Tim Anderson has this season in the majors, except even less selective. The odds are long he ever amounts to anything.
  9. Doesn't look like anything is imminent. Frazier is signing autographs.
  10. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) Rosenthal; "A Red Sox trade for Todd Frazier is almost inevitable." https://twitter.com/BostonStrong_34/status/...326468405592064 Yeah he said this on the Boston/NYY game on FS1. Sale on the mound. AJP in the booth. And DD in conversation with John Henry.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) He's saying it wouldn't cost a ton of prospects to acquire Miggy. I don't think it would cost much, but I don't think the Tigers would do it anyways. I don't think there is any way the Tigers would trade him for anything but top of the line prospects unless he really was sliding, which he will eventually. Time beats everyone. Who would have guessed Pujols OPS with the Angels would be .250 lowere than it was with the Cardinals while he still had 4+ years and around $130 million left on the contract?
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) Not sure it would cost much in prospects... I would think the fallout of a Miggy salary dump in Detroit would be disastrous. We can all see it isn't going to end welll with their payroll and aging in Detroit. Avila is going to have to be Houdini to get out of this mess.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) LOL OK A-Rod. It's a fun story but no way realistic. He's owed $200 million the next 6 1/2 years, when they will be over the luxury tax each season, and that is for an aging Miguel. Maybe he could be like Big Papi and still be great as he hits 40, but it seems injuries are starting to take their toll. Plus he would drain them of all their remaining minor league trade chips. It would cost a furtune in prospects and money.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) I was just going to ask that question. Do they actually go out and give these guys physicals? I read with the Preller fiasco each team has a medical database and they open it up for teams when they are dealing. Maybe in the offseason guys go and get them, but with hug watches and the like, most of the time, they have the other teams info. Preller kept a database that didn't include certain damning things.
  15. I doubt they actually gave anyone a physical. If it is true they probably had their medical guys look at his records and they saw something they didn't like. Still, it doesn't appear to be top prospects, so you think a substitute shouldn't be too hard to find.
  16. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) Why are you even discussing the panda thing? There is zero percent chance that that will happen. Yeah, especially considering Boston has no reason to sell a top prospect and the White Sox just shelled out $50 million for one. That was surprising enough. Thinking they would shell out another $50 million? They rarely do that for major leaguers with terrific track records.
  17. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) I like this, but why did the Rangers just sell him basically? To sign someone else.. This new bonus pool is fascinating to me. I don't think you can go over by a nickel.
  18. QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:22 PM) Interesting pickup. He was the #17 ranked prospect for the Rangers. He seems like a "let us take a flier" on this guy type of prospect. I wonder how much of the International slot money that the White Sox had to send. Whatever it was, they obviously weren't going to spend it. This guy got $1.35 million to sign. Hopefully he is a late bloomer.
  19. Joe Kelly just went on the DL. The Sawks may need a reliever. Hahn has several in that aisle.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 11:15 AM) Guessing medicals would be with regards to the players the Sox acquire, but still, if one guy red flags, just pick another. Yeah I can't imagine a medical issue with a teams 23rd rated prospect holding up a deal. That's easy to fix.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) Maybe a bit, but let's be honest, he's been good not great in AAA. He hasn't exactly forced he organizations hand. You take away the time he was dealing with the hand injury, his numbers would be terrific. But lots of players put up numbers in Charlotte. I am with you. He will play in plenty of meaningless games over the next year and a half to two years, of not longer. What's the rush?
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) He said almost in medical stage, which means nothing agreed to yet How much of a medical stage is there for a rental like this? It has to be very minor.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 10:13 AM) Hibbard and King were in their mid 20s with very little mileage on them. Yes they had short shelf-lives*, but they were nothing like Holland. They weren't great, but they "bridged the gap" while the big guns developed. The Sox record on picking up these old veterans is putrid....they are so bad that they are unflippable. *each had basically 1 bad year and never pitched again - could have been injury. I just think some competent pitching, while rebuilding, will help. I am also not in favor of intentional tanking for the sake of a couple of draft spots advantage, while many are (and I understand their reasoning). And they were acquired in trades during the rebuild. Near the end of the rebuild you will get your wish, they will see which of these guys are keepers. But in year 1 of that rebuild they had guys like Jerry Ruess and Dave LAPoint. The heroes you hate. But the concept of buying a vet to flip is fine. The Cubs might be on year 109 if they didn't do it. I was opposed to Holland because his style doesn't play well at Sox Park. But he has had flashes of brilliance.
  24. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 09:22 AM) He had a lot of talent to work with when he took over. Looking back, I think his biggest weakness is that he frequently lacked pitching...2001-2004 was plagued with fifth starter problems; and 2012-2016 had 4th and 5th starter problems. They rent what they thought was a top of the rotation guy, when they really needed some good rotation depth. That's why I really hope that they start silently loading up on pitching as they move some of their pre arb players (who probably have some value) as they bring in the better prospects. Plus, the major league team needs some more dependable young pitching, instead of another round of Holland and Pelfrey. 4th or 5th starter types like they used to rebuild in 1990 - Eric King and Greg Hibbard were 4th starter talents, but they stabilized that 1990 rotation in what was a very quick rebuild after the team was torn down a couple of years before. You do realize Holland was brought in to hopefully flip, and Pelfrey was signed to a minor league contract after being released as depth? Hibbard and King were potentials in Himes' core. But after that season they both fizzled. King got traded for someone worse in Cory Snyder, and Hibbard after a couple of mediocre seasons was taken in the expansion draft. After 1990 they both pitched about like what Holland and Pelfrey are giving the team now.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) Lol...so I had it completely backwards. And shocked they ate all that money. They obviously were high on Adkins, or maybe they were just high.
