QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) The Rockets are one of the most underrated franchises in sports and Daryl Morey is one of the most underrated GMs in sports. Yeah, they haven't won it since '95 but man they are not afraid of making a splash and somehow always get guys you don't think they can. Whether it's Charles Barkley to team with Hakeem and Drexler, T-mac in his prime, James Harden for nothing and now an elite PG for role players and a draft pick. They made the conference finals once and the semifinals twice, and either DNQ or lost in the first round of the playoffs ever other year since 1999. Why if the Bulls do that, they actually did exactly the same thing only they made the semis one more time, they are turrible, but the Rockets GM is underrated? Houston is the MJ-less Bulls of the west. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:03 PM) NYT has hit an all time high of subscribers actually. It is funny Trump likes to mention ratings. Has he seen his own?
-
Trump promises great, great surprise on health care. He really does think he is on a TV show.

As a 22 year old, Carlton Fisk hit .229 with a .763 OPS in AA. 2 years later he was ROY hitting .293 with a .909 OPS.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 08:33 AM) In the grand scheme of things, $25 million over 6 seasons is not that much of a gamble on a player who has considerable upside. If he becomes a halfway decent starting mlb SS he's easily worth that money No, but it does lock you into him, and it is money that cannot be spent elsewhere especially since when he gets a little more expensive you will be trying to win. For it to be 'worth it" IMO, he is going to have to do better than just meet the average price per WAR. He was at his cheapest. If he isn't putting up 3 or 4 WAR seasons at some point, this extension was unnecessary. He was controlled very cheaply for a long time.
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Tim Anderson is making $4 million per year. If he averages 0.5 WAR per year, he'll be worth the money. There was nothing wrong with that extension whatsoever. You will end up eating your words on that one. But if he averaged a 0.5 WAR and they didn't extend him, he would be much cheaper. Hopefully, eventually he will make the extension look astute. Right now it looks like a gift to the Anderson family. You win some, you lose some, but he still has a ton of time to make it look really good.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) So John and Gar don't know how roster sizes work. They do. But Gar doesn't want to tell you they sold the pick for the cash. I am guessing to pay for the Ro do buyout. -
I don't think the scout at the game means much. There really doesn't seem to be a guy on Boston's roster that would be a good match for a trade. The White Sox would most likely get a minor leaguer.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) Unless he's going to absolutely destroy his leg and cost himself 2+ seasons of development next year, then Jared Mitchell is a pretty poor comparison. Mitchell's leg injury had nothing to do with his inability to swing and actually make contact. It's a great theory, but really makes no sense. He was swing and miss before it, and swing and miss after.
-
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) Sigh. I don't like that response at all. I think it's one thing to entertain offers for some of the young guys behind closed doors, but why would you publicly say the players you just traded for (or drafted) are available for the right offer? Because it's the truth, and guys understand that. Most of the ones you seem to want to "protect" from this statement have already been traded. If any team is willing to overpay, everyone is available. There are no Mike Trouts currently in the White Sox organization.
-
Obviously the higher the pick the better your odds, but it all comes down to scouting and luck. Many times your second or third choice turns out better than your first. That piece a couple of weeks ago about the best player chosen in a particular spot was pretty eye popping. The draft is about 50 years old. Chad Billingsley being the best #24 pick of all time. Doesn't really make the 24th pick seem so valuable.

Coverage for everyone, better care, lower premiums, lower deductibles. We do have that one on tape.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 03:12 PM) Nice catch on Devenski. Saw him in a game recently and knew the name was familiar, but I could not place him. Now I remember. Another good move by Kenny. Brett Myers, who was famous for his "Retard" comments, moved on to Cleveland for half a dozen games, then retired. He was famous for beating his wife in front of several witnesses on the streets of Boston.

I'm usually concerned, but not too concerned about this one. Other than his average, everything else is OK, and he has been concentrating on his defense. I think once he has that squared away, the average will go up.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 26, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) Why? Both suck. Have nearly identical AAA stats in SSS. Infante better MLB stats is SSS. Only reason I could think of is Minaya in 3 years younger and has a non-zero chance of being a part of the next Sox bullpen that matters, but just seems like a strange move to me. Probably because Infante is most likely unavailable today, as is probably Beck and maybe Robertson, and since they are pretty much the same, it gives you another arm in the bullpen, since Ricky had a tough time with it yesterday.
-
When the Sox are ready to contend in 2019/2020, who is the manager?
Dick Allen replied to soxfan49's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The way he runs a bullpen is mind boggling. If Robin was still here, the pitchforks would be out, but they aren't trying to win, so you might as well keep him around and hope with more talent his decisions make more sense. If not launch him then. At this point he is fine. I feel bad for Alen Hanson. His kids are going to be teased about their father being PH for by Kevan Smith. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 25, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) This is the reason that nothing can get done in the government. Its if you are on the other side you are the worst thing possible and the cause of all the problems. There can be no compromise and no deals because the other side is so wrong that we can even meet. Look at how messed up Illinos is from this attitude. There is too much polarization in politics today. Too much animosity. As long as health care is more about making money than actually caring for health, there will be a huge problem. A republican senator was on today saying the new bill will help insurers and drug makers lower costs and improve care because the tens of billions of profit really haven't allowed them that luxury. The other big problem is making huge profits really isn't enough for publicly traded companies. You make a billion every year, that's nice, but it's not growth. So something has to happen to change it. Either prices go up or jobs get cut. This bill is just a big tax cut to the wealthy, and a big f*** you to everyone else. At some point the democrats have to make them pay.
-
How will this effect Senator"s imsurance? Maybe they should get there own. So

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 07:56 PM) Rondo and Canaan will almost certainly be waived by 6/30, They will likely renounce rights to Niko and MCW as well, which would bring them to around $38M under cap once Markkanen signs. Niko will be back. -
QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) Los Angeles DodgersVerified account @Dodgers Follow More Julio Urías will have left anterior capsule surgery Tuesday morning in Los Angeles. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal El Attrache. That is sad. I don't think anyone has come back very well from this.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jun 23, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Red Sox sign Jhonny Peralta....saw that one coming from a mile away. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/06/red-...ny-peralta.html It won't last long. He can't play anymore.

I hate the return, but if this trade makes them bad enough to draft a superstar next year, it was well worth it. If they keep getting picks 7 and higher, and don't draft a superstar, they will suck for a long time. -

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 22, 2017 -> 07:24 PM) FFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK Does anyone know a good defense attorney? I need some help evaluating my options. Can I pull off a justifiable homicide defense? You would have nothing to worry about. No jury of your peers would ever find you guilty. -
On this week's episode of the Trump presidency, Trump revealed he has no Comey tapes. There are tapes of him saying everyone covered, better care, and lower premiums and deductibles about health care. His phony threat to Comey about there being tapes blew up in his face. Makes him look even more guilty, and makes him look even more dishonest.

Totally shook. The Cubs are so dominant, they can send Babe Ruth II to AAA.
