  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:31 PM) Not really, Dick. You come to your own conclusions, I will come to mine. Part of that is a legal conclusion stating that he should not be disallowed the privilege of playing professional ball because of his crime. That is not part of his punishment, is it? I have not questioned anyone's moral judgment, and I have stated that repeatedly. Nor have I questioned anyone's desire for the White Sox to avoid this player. Obviously that has offended you and caused you to attack me personally. You are the one in the thread about a convicted child molestor who said people are rushing to judgement, Do you think if Oregon knew about this he would have been on their team? If you were a scouting director and it was round 40 and he was on the board, you would have no problem going to your owner and saying he is by far the best player available and you want to draft him, correct? Professional baseball isn't the only occupation that would red flag him because of his legal status. I think he will have a tough time finding a decent job.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) I am merely pointing out that at least I, myself, do not know anything about this kid's own childhood, background, etc. Once again, I am not defending the act of child molestation. What I am stating is that I, personally, try not to rush to judgment on matters that I don't know much about. What is to be gained by my judgment, anyways? And by yours? You seem bothered by anyone coming to conclusions. Whether or not you want to think there may be a legitimate excuse for what he did (I guess you are in the everyone gets a trophy crowd), which I find ridiculous, either way, he would still be a sick person. Who would want that? As you have mentioned a lot, this is a discussion board. That is what is to be gained.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) Perhaps you could refer to previous posts, where I stated multiple times to the contrary. I'm just not willing to rush into judge people and situations where I don't know s*** about what happened. Since he won't be drafted, maybe you could get him to coach some youth baseball by you.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) I don't know if this is the case here, but maybe this kid himself was also molested as a child? Certainly not trying to defend him, not trying to take a position on any particular team taking him, but just throwing out the fact that we really don't know much before we rush to all this judgment. Child.......please. The poor guy had his way with a girl starting when she was 4 ending when he was caught when she was 6. We don't know, maybe something happened to OJ when he was 4 that caused him to be a POS. I prefer to hold people responsible for their actions and not search for some BS excuse. Again, his victim faces an uphill battle. That is who deserves the sympathy. She is only 11 years old right now. He's done. No team will touch him. They won't put the rest of their players through this. They won't put their fanbase through this. They won't subject themselves to all they would get for giving him a chance because he can throw a ball pretty well. There have been some real bad actors who have played professional baseball, but this offense may take the cake.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) 670 The Score‏Verified account @670TheScore 1h1 hour ago White Sox's focus in draft is on best available player http://cbsloc.al/2sbUkc6 via @MLBBruceLevine Bruce is using his sources.
  6. never has there been a president, with few exceptions huh? I have known several ego maniacs, but nothing like this. The other thing that amazes me is the people willing to play this game. If Trump ever goes down, this thing needs to be played over again, and all these morons need to be held accountable.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:04 AM) Hah. Dick, how on earth do you reach your initial conclusion here? As I said earlier, I am not trying to support child molestors in any capacity, other than to support the fact that we have a penal system that has adjudicated his offense, for which he has paid, and is still paying for. I am not making an argument that the White Sox should draft him, or that any team should draft him. The argument I am making is that SHOULD a team decide they would like to draft him, that they be allowed to draft him and that he be allowed to attempt to make a living playing baseball. He has a right to work. Second chances....He took away his victim's right for a normal life. f*** him. Any team that still has him on their draft board or is willing to sign him as a free agent needs new leadership. Just like Marge Schott, the commissioner should make it a forced franchise selling event. It's a 4-6 year old girl. Who the f*** would want to play with him? I actually think character is starting to count with professional sports teams, and no one will touch this guy. The other thing that gets me is the rather light sentences these guys get. I used to work out at night at my old health club, and it was relatively empty. I became buddies with a guy who was always there, in fact we were going to go out for beers. Then one night, I get home, and was watching the local news. They had a thing about sex offenders and a website with maps. So I opened it up, and saw the map, the first one I clicked, the picture pops up and it's this guy from the health club. He was caught trying to meet a 14 year old boy for a get together. It was an undercover cop. He got probation. Now he's still out there. Disgusting.
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) I'm being completely serious. I think he gets his name called at some point. I really doubt it.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) He can go on Maury, thats about the level of TV he deserves That would be a good show, When you said Sandy Hook was staged by actors...............That. Was. A. Lie. I got a kick out of when he was in court when his ex was using his craziness to gain full custody how for his kids' sake, everyone would leave it alone.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) honestly, if Trump fired Mueller what would be the recourse? So he's gone from totally vindicated, would 100% testify under oath, to possibly firing Mueller. It's only Russia. Why do democrats even care?
  11. I think it's disgusting, but a great protest is to just not watch. Hopefully enough people and sponsors will do just that. Having the side I disagree with on shouldn't be a big deal, but this guy is another story. She interviewed Putin her first show. What groundbreaking, earth shatterning news was going to break on that one? Was he going to say he has pictures of Trump? Was he going to say he hacked the election? You have a better chance of the Twins saying they really didn't want to draft the guy they draft #1 overall tonight. Hopefully she will ask this guy tough questions, and not let him get away with his BS.
  12. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Nice find. The article is from May 2010. Plenty of time for the first group of players to make MLB and I recognize no one. I don't follow as close as some but even his subsequent groups have very very few useful players. With regard to Kendall, a k rate of 26% as a freshman and 25% now makes me want to pass. If they couldn't fix his k's, I am not sure our organization has any track record of success. It is shocking to me how much players strikeout today compared to the past. Yes, strikeouts are just enormous. You go back to high k guys like Adam Dunn and Jim Thome, who both provided 40 homers and a lot of on base, their k rates in the minor leagues weren't all that high. They are only going to go higher with Kendall IMO. I know strikeouts were considered no big deal for a while, but to me that made no sense. The reasoning was an out was an out. But even then, runners couldn't advance, and it blew off putting a ball in play gave you a decent shot at a hit. Strikeouts for hitters meant nothing, yet k-rate for pitchers seemed almost most important. Very odd.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:29 PM) They shouldn't even be focusing on their lead. Their division is complete s***. The other problem is if they wait too long...say midway into July, because there was no "rush," then teams can start calling their bluffs because they know Rizzo isn't going to jeopardize a playoff roster that can go nowhere because a complete disaster of a bullpen. They don't just need a closer...they need 2, 3, even 4 new pieces. But hey, no rush...they have a 10 game lead in the NL East. Calling their bluff? You think the price of David Robertson is going to go up? My point is the deal they could make to get him now, will be available for them to make in July when they still have an enormous lead, and are still playoff bound. You might as well give yourself some time. What if they trade for Robertson now, give up some pieces and he gets hurt in June, or what if he becomes a gas can? Your wad is blown. Robertson's price tag, from most accounts, is huge right now. You can wait and see if it goes on sale, or see if something else is available you may like more for the same price or less later.
  14. Last week they put his rehab on hold and he was receiving treatment. They said there was no setback, just being patient, but considering he had been throwing bullpens for a week or so prior, and they stopped his throwing, there probably was a setback. White Sox pitcher health and rehab has been quite a mystery this year.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) I have no opinion, but in a vacuum, I hope they get a bat. But I won't criticize the pick tonight either way. I'm pretty much the same, but would be disappointed if Kendall is the call. I understand all the tools, but the strikeouts are a problem, and the White Sox have been an organization where that hasn't been something they have had success even slightly correcting. If they take him, I hope I am wrong and he's a star. But if he's striking out 175 times in high A, it will be well, what did you expect?
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) Yeah I thought more about this and I really hope he is not drafted. There is a special relationship between sports players and young fans and I don't think it's safe to put a possible pedophile in a position to take advantage of that. Yes, it would be pretty hard to call it Family Sunday with this guy on the mound.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:43 AM) I guess what I would ask here, are you saying he should be banned from the right to play in the MLB? I think that's the tricky thing here, plenty of people(including shack if I am not misreading) think he should be able to play in the MLB but at the same time think "my team better not draft him, he needs to be someone else's problem", whereas you seem to think no chance no way he should not be eligible to play on the MiLB or MLB. Am I correct? I personally think he has disqualified himself, but don't make decisions for others. I just can't see why a team would even consider it, but if they do, that's their choice. OJ didn't make a comeback when he was acquitted. The NFL wife beaters had a rel hard time getting a job, and this is beyond that. NFL teams take guys off their draft board for nothing compared to this. To me this is something that won't fade away. You knock your wife around, unfortunately that fades away over time. This doesn't. Plus, I am one of those who thinks people who do this don't get rehabilitated. I realize a lot of these players, if not the majority aren't exactly choirboys. There are a lot of issues with a lot of people, not just baseball players. Everyone makes mistakes. People deserve extra chances. I get all that and I agree with it, however, a line has to be drawn somewhere. Drugs, drinking problems, gambling...to me, those are second chance things. Wifebeating, to me, you're done. And child molesting, no way you would play for my team. It pissed me off when the Sox traded for Brett Myers. You could go back to the thread and see. I love the White Sox, but if they were the team that gave this guy his "second chance", I think I would find some other thing to occupy my time in the summer.
  18. It's supposed to be oppressive today. If you play the Steve Stone drinking game and do a shot every time he mentions a lively park, you probably will be passed out before Jose Abreu bats.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 06:12 PM) When you are consistently losing games because of one facet of your team, it wears on you. You don't want to position players to start pointing fingers or pressing because they are tired of leads evaporating late. You also don't want the starting pitchers throwing more innings because the manager doesn't trust the bullpen. There actually are a lot of reasons to move. It's wearing on the so horribly, they have a 10 game lead.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) Assuming they lose this game, I really think the pressure begins to mount on Rizzo to start making acquisitions. They have a 10 game lead with a lousy bullpen all year. Clearly, it doesn't need to be fixed for them to make the playoffs, it probably does have to be fixed for them to win in the playoffs. I don't see where the pressure starts now. Around the deadline, probably. But now, unless you get a great deal, there is no reason to move.
  21. Why does anyone expect Rodin to do anything but struggle? He had no spring training and is coming back from an arm injury, it takes time,
  22. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) All three runs Q allowed today again came with two out. I wonder what percentage of runs he's allowed this season have come with two out and he's ready to get out of an inning. Most runs are scored with 1 out, however, runs scored with 2 out is virtually identical,. I know you harp on and on about scoring with 2 out, but it isn't unusual. It's within 1% of being most probable.
  23. A large lead buys you time. No need to trade now unless the price is right. Wait it out, some of these guys you are interested in you won't be interested in around the deadline. They just have to make sure they get someone, but blowing their wad now is shortsighted IMO. The deal you could make to get a Robertson now, will more than likely be available later, and at that point, maybe he isn't pitching as well, and either the price comes down, or you want someone else. On the other side, a guy like Frazier heating up, it could be the time for a team like Boston to make a move.
