  1. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:48 AM) Nice find. The article is from May 2010. Plenty of time for the first group of players to make MLB and I recognize no one. I don't follow as close as some but even his subsequent groups have very very few useful players. With regard to Kendall, a k rate of 26% as a freshman and 25% now makes me want to pass. If they couldn't fix his k's, I am not sure our organization has any track record of success. It is shocking to me how much players strikeout today compared to the past. Yes, strikeouts are just enormous. You go back to high k guys like Adam Dunn and Jim Thome, who both provided 40 homers and a lot of on base, their k rates in the minor leagues weren't all that high. They are only going to go higher with Kendall IMO. I know strikeouts were considered no big deal for a while, but to me that made no sense. The reasoning was an out was an out. But even then, runners couldn't advance, and it blew off putting a ball in play gave you a decent shot at a hit. Strikeouts for hitters meant nothing, yet k-rate for pitchers seemed almost most important. Very odd.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 11:29 PM) They shouldn't even be focusing on their lead. Their division is complete s***. The other problem is if they wait too long...say midway into July, because there was no "rush," then teams can start calling their bluffs because they know Rizzo isn't going to jeopardize a playoff roster that can go nowhere because a complete disaster of a bullpen. They don't just need a closer...they need 2, 3, even 4 new pieces. But hey, no rush...they have a 10 game lead in the NL East. Calling their bluff? You think the price of David Robertson is going to go up? My point is the deal they could make to get him now, will be available for them to make in July when they still have an enormous lead, and are still playoff bound. You might as well give yourself some time. What if they trade for Robertson now, give up some pieces and he gets hurt in June, or what if he becomes a gas can? Your wad is blown. Robertson's price tag, from most accounts, is huge right now. You can wait and see if it goes on sale, or see if something else is available you may like more for the same price or less later.
  3. Last week they put his rehab on hold and he was receiving treatment. They said there was no setback, just being patient, but considering he had been throwing bullpens for a week or so prior, and they stopped his throwing, there probably was a setback. White Sox pitcher health and rehab has been quite a mystery this year.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) I have no opinion, but in a vacuum, I hope they get a bat. But I won't criticize the pick tonight either way. I'm pretty much the same, but would be disappointed if Kendall is the call. I understand all the tools, but the strikeouts are a problem, and the White Sox have been an organization where that hasn't been something they have had success even slightly correcting. If they take him, I hope I am wrong and he's a star. But if he's striking out 175 times in high A, it will be well, what did you expect?
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 08:07 AM) Yeah I thought more about this and I really hope he is not drafted. There is a special relationship between sports players and young fans and I don't think it's safe to put a possible pedophile in a position to take advantage of that. Yes, it would be pretty hard to call it Family Sunday with this guy on the mound.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:43 AM) I guess what I would ask here, are you saying he should be banned from the right to play in the MLB? I think that's the tricky thing here, plenty of people(including shack if I am not misreading) think he should be able to play in the MLB but at the same time think "my team better not draft him, he needs to be someone else's problem", whereas you seem to think no chance no way he should not be eligible to play on the MiLB or MLB. Am I correct? I personally think he has disqualified himself, but don't make decisions for others. I just can't see why a team would even consider it, but if they do, that's their choice. OJ didn't make a comeback when he was acquitted. The NFL wife beaters had a rel hard time getting a job, and this is beyond that. NFL teams take guys off their draft board for nothing compared to this. To me this is something that won't fade away. You knock your wife around, unfortunately that fades away over time. This doesn't. Plus, I am one of those who thinks people who do this don't get rehabilitated. I realize a lot of these players, if not the majority aren't exactly choirboys. There are a lot of issues with a lot of people, not just baseball players. Everyone makes mistakes. People deserve extra chances. I get all that and I agree with it, however, a line has to be drawn somewhere. Drugs, drinking problems, gambling...to me, those are second chance things. Wifebeating, to me, you're done. And child molesting, no way you would play for my team. It pissed me off when the Sox traded for Brett Myers. You could go back to the thread and see. I love the White Sox, but if they were the team that gave this guy his "second chance", I think I would find some other thing to occupy my time in the summer.
  7. It's supposed to be oppressive today. If you play the Steve Stone drinking game and do a shot every time he mentions a lively park, you probably will be passed out before Jose Abreu bats.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 06:12 PM) When you are consistently losing games because of one facet of your team, it wears on you. You don't want to position players to start pointing fingers or pressing because they are tired of leads evaporating late. You also don't want the starting pitchers throwing more innings because the manager doesn't trust the bullpen. There actually are a lot of reasons to move. It's wearing on the so horribly, they have a 10 game lead.
  9. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 05:30 PM) Assuming they lose this game, I really think the pressure begins to mount on Rizzo to start making acquisitions. They have a 10 game lead with a lousy bullpen all year. Clearly, it doesn't need to be fixed for them to make the playoffs, it probably does have to be fixed for them to win in the playoffs. I don't see where the pressure starts now. Around the deadline, probably. But now, unless you get a great deal, there is no reason to move.
  10. Why does anyone expect Rodin to do anything but struggle? He had no spring training and is coming back from an arm injury, it takes time,
  11. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jun 11, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) All three runs Q allowed today again came with two out. I wonder what percentage of runs he's allowed this season have come with two out and he's ready to get out of an inning. Most runs are scored with 1 out, however, runs scored with 2 out is virtually identical,. I know you harp on and on about scoring with 2 out, but it isn't unusual. It's within 1% of being most probable.
  12. A large lead buys you time. No need to trade now unless the price is right. Wait it out, some of these guys you are interested in you won't be interested in around the deadline. They just have to make sure they get someone, but blowing their wad now is shortsighted IMO. The deal you could make to get a Robertson now, will more than likely be available later, and at that point, maybe he isn't pitching as well, and either the price comes down, or you want someone else. On the other side, a guy like Frazier heating up, it could be the time for a team like Boston to make a move.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) I'm really not trying to take up the flag for the molesters out there, but you cannot simply refuse them the right to make a living (unless of course, they want to do something that requires them to be in the presence of children or something). So if you ran a company, you would have no problem hiring someone the world knew asa molestor? There are many problems here. First, anyone who does this most likely still has a screw or two loose. It would most likely make his co-workers very uncomfortable playing with him, plus some have young kids, and would be scared to death of him. Third, the PR hit your team takes is huge. He has a right to work, but playing professional baseball is a privilege. He doesn't qualify. He would be around kids, performing for kids. Would you want your kid getting his autograph? Every team has a right, and IMO a responsibility not to hire him. There are millions of people with the right to make a living that can't make one. I wouldn't have any wife beaters my team, so you could imagine what I think about those that abuse 4-6 year olds.
  14. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) The nba clearly doesn't want a sweep. Jesus Christ There are 12 million reasons the Warriors wouldn't mind another home game.
  15. Sox need at least 2 this inning or its about ova. If they are 20-0 when leading after 6, they are 5-33 when tied or behind.
  16. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) I'm not asking if Donald recorded, I'm asking if there is an audio system that records everything. If Trump had the option to record himself I don't know that he would be dumb enough to record himself saying dumb s***. But then again Are you kidding me? He would love to listen to himself during Fox News commercials. His associates said he recorded in his Trump Tower office.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) I see on the white sox transaction pages that the Nats traded some cat named Mick VonVossen to the Sox a couple days ago. Wonder is this is related to the Raburn deal? Seems quick for a PTBNL to be announced. TRANSACTION PAGE I'm thinking them getting a player vs. cash considerations had to do with him actually playing for them. Since he was called up, I think like the others before me, this is the return. Probably sucks, but Rayburn wasn't exactly worth much.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) Is everything recorded in the Oval Office? Everyone puts tapes in quotes or asterisks, is there actual tapes of the conversations no matter what? No. Trump may record, but if he had a tape of Comey totally contradicting his testimony, I'm pretty sure we would have heard it already. The question is just like when he cleared to room to talk to Comey alone, if he does record, why can't he produce a tape that contradicts Comey? If he did, this whole thing might be over.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Yep. Curious to see what the Sox do here. Could always just option Willy Garcia. Or Minaya. Or Infante. There are lots of options. I'm guess W. Garcia or Engel go back to Charlotte.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) Dont the Sox have the worst record in the AL? Meaning he got through the whole NL, but none of the AL. At the time he was waived, there probably was a team or 2 worse in the AL. But your point stands.
  21. Fangraphs called Avi's demise a month and a half ago. I think the projection then was .255 with 15 or 16 homers. The guy said sell for anything. He is going to come back to the pack a bit, but he's been awesome. If you can be "lucky" for a third of a major league season, I'll take it. He's been almost a 3.0 WAR. I think it's time to give him credit rather for what he's done rather than someone trying to project what he "should" have done. His last 405 plate appearances .302/.345/.515
  22. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jun 8, 2017 -> 07:35 PM) There are currently only 13 1b in the league with an OPS over .800. Only 11 last year at the end of the season. I think many on this board are too worried about position value over getting the best bat available. Frank Thomas was 1B only, and not a good one. I think that pick at 7 worked out well. If they can hit, who cares? Besides, with the launch angle becoming a big thing, I think infield defense importance is going to start dropping a bit.
