QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 27, 2017 -> 11:16 AM) I must have missed all of the fawning over Davidson while you were complaining about Adam Eaton and saying that he would never get any better I don't pine over your posts, you are contradictory and irritating. Do you think you know more than GM's in the game, and you say it all the time while touting your Ideas as if they are revolutionary. More Saladino amirite They should be building the team around Trayce Thompson and his .589 OPS in AAA. It is amazing how wrong he has been but still posts like he knows everything.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) The rebuilding process. You have to bring somebody up, Ahab. As much as you pine on my posts, I'm sure you realize that I've consistently given Hahn credit for the Reed-Davidson, well before Davidson's breakout. You also ripped him for trading for Kahnle and cried when he re-signed Avi.

QUOTE (ron883 @ May 27, 2017 -> 10:11 AM) DA always putting words in other people's mouths. I said the way he was playing was DFA worthy. Never said the sox should DFA him. About time he lost some Damn weight. It appears to have served him well. No excuse for being overweight as a professional athlete. Thanks for doing what you're supposed to do Jose. DFA worthy, safe to say he's been figured out. Wrong, wrong. and his weight has been down all season, even when you started this thread. Ron, you are hitting .000 with your scouting acumen. Time to give it up.
-
.887 OPS. 1.6 bWAR, 1.4 fWAR, and he hasn't hit a homer at home yet. DFA was a good call Ron.

Warriors have won the last 27 games they had all of their top 4 in the line up. The only thing stopping this season and probably next season from being over assuming Curry stays, is their health.

QUOTE (Tony @ May 26, 2017 -> 06:42 PM) So according to WaPo, Kushner wanted a "secret" communication challenge set up with Russia. Nothing to see here.... Of course not. Fake news. It was interesting that President Jared "forgot" to put his Meetings with Russian officials on his security clearance form. Seems A recurring theme in the administration . He did remember when the failing NYT who only tells lies reported it. They are probably going to eventually use the phony Obama wiretapped them claim as a reason They needed these secret communication.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) Funny you ignore the fact that when I brought that up, I asked why it wasn't brought up the same week when others were talking about Trump's grandson's school taking complaints or whatever the BIG story was. Biden's perverted son and Tim Kaine's criminal of son aren't important but Trump's grandkid's school is a big deal. As far as that violent member of the terrorist group you love to talk about, you can keep defending her and her violence but I won't continue to go at that with you. You can take your arguments from thread to thread and rehash them all you want like everyone knows and loves you for, but I won't dance with you there. It's funny you cry about TMZ like things, yet post TMZ like things that apparently must mean something. You're a hypocrite. Everything you complain about, you yourself are guilty of. If this was a Hillary, Obama bashing thread, you would have no problem. You wouldn't complain. For a guy you claim you don't like, you sure do go to bat for Trump a lot.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 25, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) I mean I don't hold you to a standard in this respect. You sit here all day and post every negative article you find on Trump or the right and then post/defend every socialist/left wing article/viewpoint. Everybody knows your opinion before you put it forth. You and caulfield can really go down some rabbit holes and I am sure in ten years you can look back at the way you have used several hours a day for the past couple decades to spew your ideology and agenda in the same niche section of this niche forum. Good for you - time well spent I am sure. What I take issue with is the media playing its role in contributing to the ignorance of our country. Whether Sean Spicer travels with the president shouldn't make the top 1000 stories in the world right now. It's political TMZ gossip. Yeah but did you hear Joe Biden's son dated his late brother's wife? Creepy. Did you see where they woman who got coldcocked (no pun intended) did porn? Unsettling. Why is it OK for you?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 25, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) It is not "if". It is how many. Yes. Name cereals....Caulfield: Captain Crunch, Cocoa Puffs, Rice Krispies, Fruity Pepples, pepples reminds me of the Flintstones, which brings me to the question do you know the difference between people in Dubai and people in Abu Dhabi? People in Dubai don't like the Flintstones. People in Abu Dhabi do.
-
I haven't seen them do it this year, so it may be gone, but last year they played a game in between innings where you go up against a player and list as many vegetables or cereal, or ice cream flavors you could in 30 seconds. There is no way Caulfield would lose unless he got caught up in a tangent halfway through.

No cuts to SS, or Medicare or Medicaid, no one will lose their insurance, it's just going to be cheaper and better care, and if you are rich enough, a big tax break. Trump making deals. That's what he does. This is a wonderful bill. Get the congressmen some beer.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:57 AM) But if he bunts with guys like Cabrera/Abreu, what would stop him from ordering bunts from the prospects? They have not the best offense. Not a lot of power. He's trying to win, and eek out runs. If they have a line up that is potentially stacked, it might be different. Maybe not, but if he bunts too much with really good hitters, he won't have the opportunity for very long.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 25, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) I'm worried that the bunting will persist even when this team is good. Renteria just loves bunting, he always has. With the Cubs, he also was criticized with the way he ran the bullpen. He has had a couple of questionable decisions, but so far he's been OK there. Of course when the bullpen is getting guys out, you will always look good. He's certainly not some guru, but the players seem to like him, so he'll be OK. If the White Sox ever get to where they want to be, they won't have many guys in the line up where bunting is even a thought. That may be why he is so bunt happy now. We'll see.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 24, 2017 -> 11:55 PM) I wonder if a scenario ever existed where there would be several news outlets writing the same story about President Obama choosing to travel with Malia Obama over Josh Earnest. I didn't know Malia was hired as an advisor to the President.

May 24 game thread Sox at D-backs

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 24, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) You're talking about a HoF pitcher, perhaps the most dominant strikeout guy of his generation. It's a good point about a 4+ ERA, but you ask 100 casual fans to name the best 10 starting pitchers in baseball and Q's name might come up once or twice (SABES owners or White Sox fans). If you asked that question at the time of the Big Unit trade, he would have been on 100/100 fan lists. And even then, you're talking about a full 1/2 point of ERA. Below 4.5, the perception is you're closer to 4 and being in a decent band range. 4.82, you're closer to 5. Once again, perception is more important than reality in statistics. It is also 3 months vs. 3 years. And fans don't make the trades. Q was lousy for 2 innings yesterday. If he hadn't beeen his ERA would be a run or more lower. What was Samardzija's ERA in 2015 when he got $90 million? -
May 24 game thread Sox at D-backs
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2017 Season in Review
People need to put things in perspective. This is a bad team. Despite numerous players playing way better than expected and highly unlikely to maintain that level, they are 1 game better than the worst record in the AL. They will be horrible. Q will be fine. Had a bad couple of innings today. His ERA won't be 4.90 at the deadline. Randy Johnson had a 4.33 at the deadline and got traded for 3 decent prospects including Freddy Garcia. He had a 1.28 ERA the rest of the way. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 24, 2017 -> 02:31 PM) During a budget conference today, Mulvaney slipped in a statement that tax revenues are coming in slower than expected and that we may hit the debt limit sooner than originally anticipated. Mnuchin is along Congress to raise the ceiling before they go on summer recess. Quick cut the taxes for the rich. One thing I don't get is if cutting taxes is just going to be passed on to the working class, why is the right so opposed to raising the minimum wage? Pass the tax savings on to your workers, no?

Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK
Dick Allen replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Ive been thinking a lot about this because I go to a good number of concerts/festivals and its been on my mind for a while. I think what they would need to do is almost block off an area (that way no car bombs etc) and then stagger security at different points so that the bottlenecks arent as bad. The 2 worst I have seen are 1) GnR concert at Soldier Field and 2) Lollapalooza. For the GnR concert, I kept talking about how the security was almost counter productive, because it created a huge mass of people with no where to go and that a bomb would actually kill more people if it went off there. Lollapalooza there is some security before the huge bottleneck, but again a bomb vest would be hard to find because its not really what they are looking for. Another issue is (and this is my personal opinion) is that they need to stop focusing so much on trying to catch illegal drugs and just worry about safety. They arent going to catch a semi-intelligent person sneaking in drugs, it just wont happen. But by slowing down the line, creating the bottleneck they are making it less safe for everyone. Metal detectors and wands are pretty fast, its when they start digging through hats, etc that the line slows to a crawl. The crack security going through the bags is something. My wife likes to bring in contraband, which to her is extra bottles of water. She buries them at the bottom of her bag and puts a tampon on top of it. Once they get to the tampon, the search ends. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 24, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) How can the Bulls get Deaaron Fox. I would like him on our team. On an unrelated note, what are the odds that Bosh is a Bull? Considering the Bulls stance with Eddy Curry and his heart condition, I would be shocked if they went after Bosh and his clots. I understand the guy loves playing, but he needs to walk away. There is no reason to take the slightest risk. Even though he probably would improved the team if he signed, I hope the Bulls pass. That is a tragedy waiting to happen.

The Sox have their run for Q. That should do it for the offense until either Q gets pulled or Friday. -
Explosions at Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK
Dick Allen replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Filibuster
Every time I am in a long slow moving line going to an event I have to go through screening, I always wonder, if someone had a bomb, they could easily detonate it right by the gate and scores would be killed. The metal detectors might keep guns out of games and concerts, but if someone really wanted to hurt scores of people, doing it right outside would work almost as well. Security is so tight at Wrgiley, they can't stop Ronnie Woo Woo. We are, I guess protected inside the venues, but in the parking lots, in line at the ticket counter, in line to get in, there really is nothing they can do. -
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 24, 2017 -> 12:52 PM) Porcello was very good last year, but was also very overrated due to his 22 wins. Verlander and Kluber were probably better, but IMO Porcello took the Cy from them because of wins. Maybe. He still was really good. What I don't understand is all the Hawk haters who always slam him for his lack of sabermetric use, but love Stone, who seems to base how good any pitcher is by wins.
-
Wins may be overblown, but especially in today's game, it would be pretty hard for a pitcher to win 20 games and not be really good that particular season.

May 23rd Game Thread: White Sox @ Arizona
Dick Allen replied to InTheDriversSeat's topic in 2017 Season in Review
They never get Hawk to talk about how he almost traded for Andre Dawson when he was the GM. The rumors were so rampant, Dawson once took BP in Montreal wearing a White Sox cap. The next season he signed with the Cubs and was MVP.
