QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Feb 2, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Right, but again, to me that just screams that the DoD screwed up. That's their area of expertise. You can't fault a President for relying on his generals. If it came out that the generals kept advising Trump the plan wasn't going to work and they needed better intel, fine, but we don't really have that yet. I mean yes, to SB's point, at the end of the day the guy that gives the order is responsible. But it's not some negligence on his part that the operation didn't go off without a hitch, which seems to be the implication in the article. Why would Trump rely on his Generals? He has already said he knows far more about ISIS than they do.

Not as a headliner for a few reasons, but I would take Profar as back of package filler in a heartbeat assuming the medical report is OK. I know he doesn't have a ton of control left, but he's a guy if healthy might live up to some of the previous hype and very flappable if not an extension candidate.

Weren't the Republicans saying before the election if Hillary was elected the wouldn't let her get anyone on the Court?

You have to look into the crystal ball and try to determine if there is a Lebron or Michael or someone of that ilk coming into the draft the next couple of years. That's when you tank and trade Jimmy. If it's just a bunch of meddling guys, you might as well hang on and try to score some FA. But Gar has to go. Pax has to go, and Fred is just not respected. He has to go as well. Gar isn't going to interest FAs since the money is about the same, and it's easier to attract players in Miami and LA in the winter. Chicago is not all that great of place to hang during basketball season.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) Going off on a bit of tangent here, the FO got credit for drafting well when we got great value from Butler, Taj, and to some extent Noah. But those guys were drafted over half a decade ago. Portis, Valentine, Niko, Doug, Snell, and Teague have all been disappointments, the last draftee to really exceed expectation was Jimmy. When you don't draft well, you couldn't sign free agents, and you don't capitalize via trades, it's easy to see why we're in a predicament with one star and a deteriorating core. Yep, this FO blows. http://www.blogabull.com/2015/5/18/8610703...-matt-lloyd-and

SoxFest Day 1 Impressions - A Clear Direction for Hahn

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 28, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) They haven't had a single loss, yet. A couple of years of that will get the pitchforks back out. Not only that, every one of these prospects is still going to be great. At best, the prospect people will be just as happy a year from now when they all live up to their billing. If one or more falls apart, look out. -
So no Americans have been killed on US soil by any citizen of the countries on Trump's list from 1975-2015. What they do lack is Trump business ties.

So Wade and Jimmy are 5-23 for 10 points and 6 turnovers through 3 quarters. They must not care about winning enough.

So Law has never seen Tatis play. I would imagine it is the same with many he has ranked. Why is everyone so enamoured with his rankings?

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

Q was always Friday only. -
In the end, it doesn't matter where Keith Law ranks Yoan Moncada. His play will let you know where he should have been ranked.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 06:44 PM) According to Cowley they are so irate that they are going to buyout Rondo. Seems to miss the bigger point of the whole mess. http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/rajon-r...ade-on-twitter/ Rondo wanted a buyout. He played them like the fools they are.

Why is GarPax silent?
-
Jimmy and Wade pulled a dick move going to the press last night with the we did our jobs no one else did theirs BS. That is not leadership. Rondo, IMO, has the correct thinking, but putting it on Instagram was a dick move as well. What a mess of a franchise. Your move, Gar.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 12:44 PM) That's fine...all the losses. Imagine if we were able to deal Q and sign Hammel. We would be replacing Sale and Quintana with Holland and Hammel and people would still think we are going to be good next year lol Losing is one thing. Having many games blown open by the 2nd or 3rd inning could set the fanbase back a bunch. I stick until the end of blowouts until the end. I bail on rain delays. But last year, I had several Shields starts, and it was getting very difficult keeping up with tradition. People who aren't into it as much are going to become disinterested faster.

Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
Dick Allen replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Adam Eaton hit 14 homers last season in about 700 PAs. Tilson has managed 19 HR in over 2000 MiLB ABs. Eaton also put up 29 doubles in that stretch. Tilson has put up 59 in over 2000 PA's. There is going to be a large loss in both ISO and OBP. Again, we are talking at least 50 to 75 OPS points, and that is if Tilson doesn't suffer any loss of speed from the Hammy tear last year. Tilson is a 4th OF in a starters clothing. No he's just as good as Adam Eaton, well almost as good. Just because he gets on base, runs the bases well, is a good fielder with a good arm, has a little pop with the bat, people think he's a good player. LMAO. His 6.0 WAR last year is easily replaced. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) I doubt it. That place is always full. I think it's starting to crack. They are really expensive, and the re-sale sucks. You could have sat in the Club level last night for $16 plus fees on Stubhub. Lower Center for $48. I think they are over $200 each face value. I had some partial season tickets a long time ago. Last summer they were hounding me to buy some season tickets. First time they did that. But I agree about Lloyd. He was supposedly the guy who targeted Butler and Gibson. For drafting that late, those were great picks. The year he left, Teague was picked. One of the worst shooters in NBA history.

QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) The OP must have been hitting the Jack or Tito hard. That was one hell of a crazy post. I'm not sold that the Sox front office is completely on board with tearing this thing down to the studs. The "bad apples" are gone and that is it so far. KW and Jerry are still running the show and rebuild is not in their vocabulary. They are a lot of desperate mediocre veterans still looking for a contract and time is running out. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the following signings are announced at SoxFest and/or sometime in early February. Kurt Suzuki - 1 year contract-5.5 million ( Will platoon with either Soto/Navarez) Dude is a sox killer and rakes at Sox Park. Has bad defensive metrics but the Sox front office doesn't seem to care much about that if last years catcher signings were any indication. Ryan Howard- 1 year -6 million base with incentives that could push it over 10 million. (will primarily DH and Spell Abreu at first) Total Kenny signing here. He tried to catch lighting in a bottle last year with Rollins why not try again with Howard? Angel Pagan-1 year 8 million- (will start in Center) It doesn't sound like Tilson is gonna be ready for opening day and may never be the same player after that gruesome hamstring injury. Pagan will give a veteran presence in the outfield. Plus, he has never played in the AL before. KW and company like those kind of FA signings. Jason Hammel- 1 year-12 million- (Slots in as #3 starter behind Q and Rodon) Hammel is getting desperate for a contract and settles on a one year deal to build value. Sox need another righty in starting rotation. Travis Wood- 1 year- 7 million (Slots in as a jack of all trades and an insurance policy for if/when Holland & Shields implode) Wood is getting desperate for a deal as well. Sox sign two ex Cubs pitchers hoping some of the good juju from last year rolls over. 2017 Opening Day Lineup 1) Anderson-SS 2) Pagan-CF 3) Abreu-1B 4) Frazier-3B 5) Cabrera-LF 6) Howard-DH 7) Lawrie-2B 8) Garcia-RF 9) Suzuki-C Starting Roation 1) Q 2) Rodon 3) Hammel 4) Gonzalez 5) Holland/Shields (one is guaranteed to implode ala Danks/Latos last year) Bullpen DRob Jones Putnam Wood Petrickia Jennings Ynoa Covey Like James Shields and Derek Holland, Jason Hammel's style of pitching doesn't translate well at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
Dick Allen replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) How do you know this is Robertson's low point? What are the offers? That he's still here speaks volumes. It wouldn't take much for the Sox to punt on the money they owe him for 2 years of rebuilding. -
Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
Dick Allen replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Robertson had a hip issue and a knee issue last year. Let's all hope at least one of those was the reason for the drop off in command. If he gets that back, he will be fine. He's unhittable at times. The only pitcher in MLB history to average more than 10k/9 innings each of his first 8 years. -
What needs to be done is Gar/Pax and Fred should be fired. The only exception I would make to try to squeeze something out of this year and make Pax take some responsibility would tell Pax fire Gar, fire Fred, you're the coach for the rest of this season. Show us what you were supposed to accomplish. Then, when they finish around .500 with the 8th seed and a quick knockout, have him go away.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) You guys are advocating John Paxson getting a 7th coach? 7? That's absurd. Hoiberg probably can't coach but if you watch this dumpster fire and he's the first thing you blame then we are watching different televisions. I agree. If the Bulls need a new coach, Gar and Pax shouldn't be the guys selecting him. Nor, if they thought anything other than what is happening would happen this season, should they be putting together a roster. I don't like Gar as much as anyone, but Pax is just as to blame.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 09:01 AM) I can't wait until we spend 15 billion to build this dumb wall and it doesn't work. I'd like to post comments from Paul Ryan about how we don't have the money for something. It would take hours to do. If he's building a 30 foot high wall, invest in 31 foot ladders.

QUOTE (QuickJones81 @ Jan 26, 2017 -> 07:19 AM) Explain his motivation here? If he changes his evaluations for an agenda he will be less accurate. Poor accuracy over time puts his job in jeopardy. Furthermore, no one he may have an axe to grind with in the white Sox organization pays attention to his list. They are reliant on their own scouts and lists. So wheres the payoff for Law? Just to aggravate Sox fans? Please. I think in reality he tends to swing pessimistic on prospects he's not in love with. We as fans want these prospects to be stars, so we swing optimistic. So we won't agree with him often. That doesn't mean he has an agenda. More likely he is far less biased than you are and making a fair assessment based on the things he believes are significant to projecting success supported by a history of feedback. Sorry it doesn't fit with your fantasy of future greatness. When you are a GM or scouting director, you are held to what you get wrong, and expected to get everything right. When you are making prospect lists for ESPN or fangraphs or BA or BP, you are praised for what you eventually get right, and not held to what you get wrong. Outside of the top maybe 20 guys if that, most of the top 200 prospects if you are including 17 years olds, are pretty interchangeable. There have been eventual stars never ranked, and busts in the top 10. How many times has Law seen each of the guys he has ranked actually play? He can throw Tatis Jr. out there because he did fine for a 17 year old, and has some pedigree. If he's right, he ranked him higher than anyone else. If he's wrong? Who cares? Tatis Jr. just turned 18, if he makes it, he's a long ways off. He is still ranked a lot lower than Law ranked Joey Gallo a couple of years ago, when Gallo was even more developed. Anytime anyone mentions his name in a trade with Texas, it isn't met with a lot of enthusiam. In the end, it's far more likely we will forget Fernando Tatis Jr. even exists in several years than we will be whining how could the Sox have given up on this guy.
