Ken Rosenthal: Trade Deadline Will be Insane
Dick Allen replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's always going to be insane, then reality kicks in. This past winter meetings was going to be crazy with trades. The free agents suck, everyone is available. Yet, if the White Sox didn't show up with Sale and Eaton, the only purposes the meetings held were a job fair and a rule 5 draft. I will believe it when I see it. -
Wade and Butler blasted the rest of the team after the game. The both made it seem like they did their jobs, the rest of the team doesn't care if they win or lose. I don't know if their validity in the caring part, but saying you did your job the rest of the team didn't doesn't work well in team sports. The roster sucks. That is the problem.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 11:03 AM) If the Sox are playing better than expected, it should mean that more of those star performers will be moved at the deadline. Don't underestimate how brutal September can be from a W-L perspective. They also play a lot of teams that should be contenders the last month. It could get really ugly.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) Ya, I highly doubt Soxfest has anything to do with anything on the trade market. I know there's been a time or two where they've announced a signing around Soxfest but I don't think it's going to slow things down or speed things up on the trade front. The only thing I could think of is nothing would probably happen during Soxfest. So from Friday afternoon until Monday morning, nothing will happen. A couple of years ago, they re-signed Beckham the day after Soxfest. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 25, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) This is the first time a president has received an initial approval rating under 50% in the history of the poll, which dates back to Dwight Eisenhower's first term in 1953. Oh look, I am including a source: http://www.businessinsider.com/trump-first...resident-2017-1 Somewhere Kellyanne is reading your post saying, "but Hillary Clinton..."

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 11:19 AM) That's not true at all. We have had a garbage system for years, during which we, as fans, have had to hype ourselves up about BS prospects. It's disappointing when pundits take the wind out of our sails by calling mediocre prospects mediocre, but look back over the past 5 years or so and make me a list of guys Keith Law hated but turned out to be really good. AFAIK, that list is basically Chris Sale, and only because he thought Sale was destined for the bullpen, which was a commonly held ad completely justifiable belief at the time. The Sox prospects have sucked, but Law was dead wrong about Sale in more ways than one, and it wasn't that he was just a reliever.

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 08:30 AM) Trump brings his own cheering section. http://www.politicususa.com/2017/01/23/cbs...-cia-visit.html Spicer made it a point to point out the clapping. Trump also boasted how probably all the people in the room voted for him. This would be hysterical if it wasn't so sickening. And the millions upon millions who fall for this show is disgusting. .

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 08:25 PM) Or North Korea How the f*** did so many people vote for this clown? How are we only 4 days in? His boasting to politicians that there were 3 million to 5 million illegal votes, thus costing him the popular vote is like Kim Jong Il boasting he had 11 holes in one the first time he golfed.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 11:20 AM) I understood that. He's exaggerating what other people are arguing for and being sarcastic in the same post. The two arent mutually exclusive. Why would anyone even argue? Unless you know exactly what has been turned down, you have nothing to argue about. As far as I can tell, not one poster here has any idea what the White Sox have said no to yet. But there are huge problems. It's ridiculous. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) The Astros are out because their GM said so? We have no idea who is out and who isn't. No. They are all out. The Sox are stuck with Jose Quintana. If anyone ranks pitchers and he doesn't get ranked in the top 5 or 10, whoever is ranking them is a fool. And if RH values him like a top 5 or 10, he is asking for way too much. I mean, he's only signed for 4 more years. Take what you can get, and be done with it. There is no time to spare. Pitchers and catchers report in a month. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) It has been reported that Hahn's demand was Moncada+Kopech+Devers and Dombrowski refused to give that up. Hahn settled for Basabe and Diaz, which is a pretty huge downgrade from Devers at this point in time. Right, so figure the same thing is going on with Q. Boston upped their offer once it looked like Sale was headed to the Nats. If RH took what is currently being offered, there is a good chance you would be disappointed. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) What employers are responsible for their employees' reckless behavior outside of the workplace? Why do you think baseball players deserve special treatment? Maybe the countries with the highest auto-based mortality rates should take some accountability here. This issue goes well beyond the world of baseball. And you still didn't answer what kind of support MLB should provide to help curb this issue. They should tell them not to drive fast, and don't drink and drive. It will stop immediately. I am with you, what can be said? They have examples and it continues. I am sure they get some sort of counseling anyway, but nothing competes with the naitivity and indestructible feeling of youth. When I was 15 one of my best friends hopped in a car to go home after school with a guy who just got his license . The driver drove like an idiot, hit a light pole, and my buddy is severely brain damaged for life. Even after that, when I got my license, I drove like an idiot, drove drunk several times, and got lucky nothing happened. Now I won't drive if I have 1 beer. But most of us are in the same boat. when you are that age, bad s*** isn't going to happen to you. Even if it is happening all around you. -
So Kellyanne used the term alternative facts for Spicer's press conference yesterday. When pressed on it, she went to GOP talking points, never answering and then calling out some bad info the press gave about a bust being removed. That she called a lie, not an alternate fact. And then went on about how unfair the press is to the new administration. I just wonder how long this can go on.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Sorry I find the Trump voting demographics interesting, instead of just assuming there are 63 million toothless male white supremacists out there. It is interesting, but I would think very few of the women at the protest voted for him. I think the vast majority of the women in the demographic that voted for Trump, didn't participate, although I am sure there were some.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) Trump is more concerned about TV ratings. He is very proud of his nearly 31 million viewers. Mention it was 10 million more than 2013, which the second term always has a drop off. So,Rome should tell him Obama had 38 million viewers his first term and people actually showed up in DC for the inauguration not o protest.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 11:27 AM) I think your idea to educate guys on the risks is fine, but after that I don't see how MLB should have any involvement. Yah I don't know what they are supposed to do. He was close friends with Oscar Taveras. If that isn't going to move the needle, what would? There really isn't much you can do to . When you are 25 and have the world by the balls, you don't think anything like that would happen to you. It is tragic, but to tell you the truth, I am surprised it doesn't happen more often. -

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 04:26 PM) So basically you're two arguments are as follows: 1) Since Quintana has been one of the unluckiest pitchers in baseball history, it's safe to assume he'll continue to be one in 2017 2) Despite the difference of the 8th & 2nd picks being three wins last year, no one player can have any impact on draft position whatsoever Please confirm that I'm not misinterpreting your post, because the above is exactly what it sounds like. You think he will all of a sudden get lucky with Eaton out of RF and Avi in? They most likely will trade him pretty soon IMO, but this is a bad team. Probably as bad as they were in 2013 when they were 12-20 in Q's starts. .375 winning pct x 162= 60 wins. Every White Sox pitcher who has pitched well the last 4 years has been considered unlucky. They will be again in 2017 with an offense that was horrible with Eaton, and now doesn't have him, and hasn't added anyone of significance to the 2017 line up. I know you are all for taking less now, but that is silly. The Sox got Frank Thomas with the 7th pick. If they were selecting earlier, they would have drafted Jeff Jackson. Having the higher pick is more desireable, however, it doesn't guarantee the better player. I would rather they hold out for better players that have already developed. You are all over the place though. Need to dump him because he might get hurt or start sucking. Need to dump him for whatever you can get now because he is so good your draft position is going to change significantly if he is kept. Well, if that is the case, you will more than make up for it with the increased package he would command at that time. -

Dick Allen replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox are 58-74 in games Q starts the last 4 years. Taking Eaton out of the offense, I don't think if they keep him during the season(which I doubt) will make much difference in where they ultimately draft. -
With all the illegal voting that made it look like Hillary had almost 3 million more votes than Trump, when in reality, the popular vote was a landslide victory for Trump, I wonder why he hasn't made that a top priority to get fixed. He is lucky, he is so great he can overcome that much fraud, but some of his fellow republicans cannot. That should be attacked soon.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2017 -> 09:38 AM) I'll just leave these two tidbits. That's about all i care to comment on this vile man. also here he is making fun of a disabled reporter: He never made fun of a disable reporter. That is just the dishonest media. The p**** grabber is strange. The guy who is being told the story and laughs has his reputation and career ruined. The guy brags about actually doing these things becomes POTUS. It won't take long where just like the people he conned with jobs and prosperity for everyone around his golf course in Scotland, and around the casinos in Gary, the people who voted for him will realize the were taken for fools.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 06:39 PM) Yup I'm using recent results to make a judgment on a player because it "fits my agenda". Wanna know an example of a pitch who's never had a down year? Jose Quintana. If you want recent results, look at Archers second half. Pretty nice. -

Dick Allen replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Archer has been worth about 1 WAR a year less than Q the last 3 years. His career ERA is 0.10 higher, his career FIP is similarly lower. He averages about .7 more walks per 9 and a little over 2 more strikeouts over 9. He is signed for about the same money, but for an extra year. He is pretty freaking valuable and could very well be more attractive to some teams than Q. But I don't think he is realistically available right now. Fangraphs claimed he had more surplus value than Chris Sale. If Chris Archer is your # 3 your rotation is pretty stacked at the top. -
Q's only scheduled for Friday. Hmmmmmm.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 01:07 PM) I don't know, as much as I want the Astros to get desperate enough to get a deal done for Q, I feel like that kind of bias is leading posters here to underrate them. Their rotation is suspect and they could definitely use Quintana, but their offense and bullpen should be near the top of the AL. The Royals' rotation is even more suspect and this will probably be their weakest bullpen in years (I'd probably put it in the bottom half of the league at this point). The Tigers are still relying on a bunch of mid-30s players and have plenty of rotation concerns themselves. The Rangers' rotation is very top heavy and even with their top 2 Darvish has health concerns and Hamels is a year older after seeing his walk rate go up significantly. I also think their offense is pretty overrated. Seattle looks interesting but I still think they have more question marks than Houston does. I just don't see why any of these teams should be favored ahead of the Astros right now. Think of how good they would be if they had drafted Bryant instead of Appel. Then drafted Rodon instead of Aiken. They ultimately got Bregman, but wouldn't have needed him with Bryant, and Rodon would look awesome in their rotation. Bryant, Correa, Altuve. I could play 1B and it would be one of the greatest infields in the league.
