  1. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 03:32 PM) I know it's not in Jerry's nature, but wouldn't it make sense to pick up some of Q's money to extract more value from the Pirates? Then you can let Cutch regain value during the season, trade him at the deadline, and move Meadows in. Sox could ask for Glasnow, Bell, and Newman. It would be ridiculous, but they already are having a tough time coming up with the correct package if they are getting other teams involved, so I don't see where they would be willing to give up more.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Most teams have a budget set by the owner or ownership group. The GM can only work with the resources given. I understand that but the owner got into it with a fan just in the past week because the fan said he was more concerned about the bottom line than winning. Adding a $6 or $7 million salary is hardly a franchise killer. If they have to trade the face of their franchise to add a guy who is paid like a 4th or 5th starter, they aren't committed to winning. Once this window closes, they might regret that.
  3. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 02:54 PM) Hard enough to analyze the Sox...don't ask me to critique the Buccos. I just think operating like they are operating isn't going to lead to wins. It's as half assed as anything the White Sox have done.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 02:48 PM) So this goes back to the "who is worth more." It looks like they made those moves with the plan of trading McCutchen. Would you rather have: Hudson Nova Quintana Meadows in CF or McCutchen Is Meadows really ready? I just think if your Pittsburgh, your chances to win have been so few and far between, risking losing $6 or $7 million on a season (assuming right now they are OK financially at break even) is a small price to pay to take your shot. You never really know when you might have one again. Their fanbase is beaten down. At their fan fest someone got into it with their owner about winning vs. making profit. They are pretty much like cynical Sox fans at this point thinking the team is unwilling to take the final necessary step. I would imagine a trade for Q even though he is not a matinee idol player, would generate some ticket sales due to people thinking maybe the Pittsburgh FO has changed its MO.
  5. According to Forbes, the Pirates turned a $35 million profit in 2015, and according to B-R, they dropped payroll about 20% in 2016.
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) I feel so bad for Pirates fans. What a joke. Totally. Q makes $6 or $7 million next year. Ridiculous.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 01:39 PM) Pirates may very well believe that Meadows will be better than Cutch next year and this is an "anything to keep Meadows" move. If they can't, maybe they move on to dealing Meadows with it. ... (maybe white sox are trying to sabotage deal) Meadows is a great prospect. I would love for the Sox to get him, but thinking he is one of the answers to a playoff team in 2017 is half assing 101. I don't blame them for not trading Meadows, I understand the appeal, but their window is short, they need a Cutch bounce back not a Cutch trade at a bargain rate. .
  8. The Pirates best chance of winning the next 2 seasons would involve trading for Q and hanging on to and hoping for a bounce back from Cutch. Anything else is just maximum effort half assing.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) I'm glad I was young when Joe Borchard busted. I don't know I could handle watching a guy hit a .900 ops in charlotte, then decline every year after and look more and more broken. Edit: Well I guess I lived it more with Beckham. I was sitting right behind home plate when Borchard hit one on the concourse against the Phillies in a rainout make up game. It was glorious.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:32 PM) Nardi will break em, Coop'll fix em Back then they had incredible offense and crappy pitching. The line up they trotted out for the 2000 playoffs had 1 player with a lower OPS than .810 on the season. Then, they couldn't score.
  11. Back in the day when the Sox were ranked the #1 farm system, Jon Rauch was going to be a right handed Randy Johnson, and Jon Garland was the second coming of Kevin Brown. Garland had a decent career, Rauch was a journeyman maybe due to a labrum issue. They must of come up with ways to strengthen the labrum area. There aren't nearly the amount of tears that were happening in the early to mid 2000s.
  12. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) I'm not writing him off that he can't do it. I want his body preserved long-term. I get that, and eventually it may happen. I think they need to see if he can be a good enough catcher, they have time, and if he will develop into a good enough offensive player, where preserving his body from the rigors of catching is beneficial.
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Why doesn't it make sense for the Pirates? And maybe the Yankees think McCutchen is likely to bounce back into a 6 WAR player and quickly become more valuable than the players they gave up. I think people tend to overreact too much to one bad year. McCutchen could be an excellent buy low candidate for certain teams at the right price. Look at it this way, if the White Sox were in the Yankees position, would it be a positive or negative thread if it was rumored the Sox were giving up prospects for Cutch? I do agree with you, a great year, a bad year, people tend to overreact, especially to the bad. People are more inclined to think a guy will regress to the mean if he was great. If he was horrible, it's usually a sign of aging or something else. But the Pirates wouldn't exactly be trading him at the optimal time.
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) We have the #2 catching prospect In the game. Let's give him time to develop as such. I don't know why a lot of people have written him off as a catcher. The Sox certainly haven't, and at the same stage, he can't be worse than Tyler Flowers was. Orton seems to know what he is doing.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) I just think the Sox are in the mindset of get the most value and if you land top bats, so be it. Which is fine if you can develop bats consistently. Plus the White Sox for a decade have had far more luck developing pitching than they have hitters. Load up on guys other teams have done some development.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) I am tired of the pitching headlined deals. Get the f***ing bat. I'm with you. Meadows or Frazieror Torres or bust. Rutherford is nice, no question, but a little way away, and can't be the headline bat, as a second piece, I think he's terrific. The Sox are running out of guys they can trade to acquire the top guys. Now is the time.. The problem is there is no way the Yankees give up a Frazier or Torres for Cutch.
  17. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) If you have a problem with me why not say it to me on twitter instead of b****ing about me to other people on a message board? And my entire post wasn't me telling everyone how great I am. I called myself a "joke" for getting the scoops that I do and also said the gum video was embarrassing. Again, the people that I do talk to that read these message boards called you the same thing. I wouldn't have said that on here until I get messages from multiple people "dick allen is talking s*** about WSD on Soxtalk" Keep picking at the low hanging fruit with the gum though, but just an FYI I made fun of myself on the internet for it more than anyone else did, so you're swimming up stream with it You're right, if it isn't on twitter, it isn't official. Why did you want to punch me in the face on twitter because of something I posted here that had zero to do with you? Why didn't you post something here that you wanted to punch me in the face? If rabbit or Kyle want to call me a dick, what do I care? They wouldn't know me if I standing right in front of them. But you are the guy that posted for all to see you wanted to punch me in the face on twitter for something I posted here. I was alerted to it. I don't follow you at all, although I did give you credit for things you did break. You are an internet tough guy. I read some of the stuff, and you want to punch a lot of people. I would love to get it on youtube because I am sure you would miss.
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) I'm only following this thread now to see Dick Allen respond to WSD. He called me a know it all dickhead. Apparently he doesn't read his twitter. His entire post was him telling everyone how great he is. The video is there for everyone to see. If he wants to punch me in the face, we can have it arranged. I think when the moment arrives, however, the gum will fall out of his mouth. I have heard of can't walk and chew gum at the same time. That was the first time I ever saw someone who just can't chew gum at the same time.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Yeah, I was trying to figure out that too. I think the Yankees get off light, while the Pirates give up a s*** ton. I'm thinking the Pirates are keeping something they get from NY.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) SS2K5 is being overdramatic as usual but he has a point. Getting just Moncada and Rutherford as far as hitting goes for Sale, Q, and Eaton is a bit disappointing. He definitely has a point. Offense has been the problem. If it is going to be so easy to acquire, why wasn't it acquired? I understand you need some pitchers, but the game is getting away from starting pitching, except for a #1 or #2 guy being important. It's about the bullpen, and pitching prospects bust at a higher rate than hitters. Moncada was a great start, but there needs to be a lot more. Unless they plan on trading Rodon, Q is pretty much their last asset to get top of the line offensive prospects.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) So in five years we can be back to where we are now, with outstanding pitchers, but no offense or defense. What a waste. Yes, but you will be able to trade them for more pitchers.
  22. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) As someone that is friends with Dave, he actually had the exact package right around 2-3 weeks before the trade actually happened. These dudes in here trashing him have likely never had any national attention or been on TV, yet they have the gall to discredit Dave. Usually seems to always be the case but still irritating. He nailed the Lawrie non tender. Oh wait. Didn't he say Sale didn't cut up any jerseys? He definitely had a source and broke something. There is no doubt, but he has taken that and his new found "insider" status and played games with it. Why does Lawrie's twitter and instagram have to be littered with people asking him about a non tender just because this guy wants to feel like an insider when he has no info. IMO, if you want to be an insider, you have to behave responsibly. Just making s*** up or guessing because you know people will believe you and want info is not the way real insiders work.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) After last year's Sox and free agent rumors, I believe nothing WSD has to say ( Cespedes 6/135M!) Just an attention whore that's full of s***. I fail to see how a festive reference ( as funny as it may be) correlates to a Q trade happening today. Here a fresh article from Fox speculating the Astros could still be in on Q. I suggest Sox fans read this to help remove WSD's nonsense from their minds. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jose-qu...n-astros-122316 The guy definitely had a source, but that seems to have dried up. He took it and ran with it, but he's been off for a while now. Sale didn't cut up jerseys. Lawrie was getting non tendered....
  24. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) ? Mind elaborating? Internet tough guy (apparently he read something here and wants to punch me in the face, I'm pretty sure he would whiff) might either be buying a comb, or perhaps starts gum chewing lessons today. His source is drying up, and his 15 minutes of fame are coming to an end. http://wgntv.com/2016/06/20/dave-williams-...on-sports-feed/
  25. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Funny. Rox FO might be gun shy after the Tulo trade blew up in their face. Media was surprisingly gentle with them, however. I wonder if Sox and Rox GM's knew each other in college since both went to Harvard. Secret handshake at least. Ian Desmond was 2016 Jimmy Rollins at the plate the 2nd half of the season. Yet the Rockies give him $70 million and on top of that, pencil him in at 1B, a position that makes him even less valuable. It's clear they are doing something very different in that FO when it comes to decision making time.
