  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) I'm not writing him off that he can't do it. I want his body preserved long-term. I get that, and eventually it may happen. I think they need to see if he can be a good enough catcher, they have time, and if he will develop into a good enough offensive player, where preserving his body from the rigors of catching is beneficial.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) Why doesn't it make sense for the Pirates? And maybe the Yankees think McCutchen is likely to bounce back into a 6 WAR player and quickly become more valuable than the players they gave up. I think people tend to overreact too much to one bad year. McCutchen could be an excellent buy low candidate for certain teams at the right price. Look at it this way, if the White Sox were in the Yankees position, would it be a positive or negative thread if it was rumored the Sox were giving up prospects for Cutch? I do agree with you, a great year, a bad year, people tend to overreact, especially to the bad. People are more inclined to think a guy will regress to the mean if he was great. If he was horrible, it's usually a sign of aging or something else. But the Pirates wouldn't exactly be trading him at the optimal time.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) We have the #2 catching prospect In the game. Let's give him time to develop as such. I don't know why a lot of people have written him off as a catcher. The Sox certainly haven't, and at the same stage, he can't be worse than Tyler Flowers was. Orton seems to know what he is doing.
  4. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:58 AM) I just think the Sox are in the mindset of get the most value and if you land top bats, so be it. Which is fine if you can develop bats consistently. Plus the White Sox for a decade have had far more luck developing pitching than they have hitters. Load up on guys other teams have done some development.
  5. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:51 AM) I am tired of the pitching headlined deals. Get the f***ing bat. I'm with you. Meadows or Frazieror Torres or bust. Rutherford is nice, no question, but a little way away, and can't be the headline bat, as a second piece, I think he's terrific. The Sox are running out of guys they can trade to acquire the top guys. Now is the time.. The problem is there is no way the Yankees give up a Frazier or Torres for Cutch.
  6. QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) If you have a problem with me why not say it to me on twitter instead of b****ing about me to other people on a message board? And my entire post wasn't me telling everyone how great I am. I called myself a "joke" for getting the scoops that I do and also said the gum video was embarrassing. Again, the people that I do talk to that read these message boards called you the same thing. I wouldn't have said that on here until I get messages from multiple people "dick allen is talking s*** about WSD on Soxtalk" Keep picking at the low hanging fruit with the gum though, but just an FYI I made fun of myself on the internet for it more than anyone else did, so you're swimming up stream with it You're right, if it isn't on twitter, it isn't official. Why did you want to punch me in the face on twitter because of something I posted here that had zero to do with you? Why didn't you post something here that you wanted to punch me in the face? If rabbit or Kyle want to call me a dick, what do I care? They wouldn't know me if I standing right in front of them. But you are the guy that posted for all to see you wanted to punch me in the face on twitter for something I posted here. I was alerted to it. I don't follow you at all, although I did give you credit for things you did break. You are an internet tough guy. I read some of the stuff, and you want to punch a lot of people. I would love to get it on youtube because I am sure you would miss.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) I'm only following this thread now to see Dick Allen respond to WSD. He called me a know it all dickhead. Apparently he doesn't read his twitter. His entire post was him telling everyone how great he is. The video is there for everyone to see. If he wants to punch me in the face, we can have it arranged. I think when the moment arrives, however, the gum will fall out of his mouth. I have heard of can't walk and chew gum at the same time. That was the first time I ever saw someone who just can't chew gum at the same time.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Yeah, I was trying to figure out that too. I think the Yankees get off light, while the Pirates give up a s*** ton. I'm thinking the Pirates are keeping something they get from NY.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) SS2K5 is being overdramatic as usual but he has a point. Getting just Moncada and Rutherford as far as hitting goes for Sale, Q, and Eaton is a bit disappointing. He definitely has a point. Offense has been the problem. If it is going to be so easy to acquire, why wasn't it acquired? I understand you need some pitchers, but the game is getting away from starting pitching, except for a #1 or #2 guy being important. It's about the bullpen, and pitching prospects bust at a higher rate than hitters. Moncada was a great start, but there needs to be a lot more. Unless they plan on trading Rodon, Q is pretty much their last asset to get top of the line offensive prospects.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 10:40 AM) So in five years we can be back to where we are now, with outstanding pitchers, but no offense or defense. What a waste. Yes, but you will be able to trade them for more pitchers.
  11. QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:59 AM) As someone that is friends with Dave, he actually had the exact package right around 2-3 weeks before the trade actually happened. These dudes in here trashing him have likely never had any national attention or been on TV, yet they have the gall to discredit Dave. Usually seems to always be the case but still irritating. He nailed the Lawrie non tender. Oh wait. Didn't he say Sale didn't cut up any jerseys? He definitely had a source and broke something. There is no doubt, but he has taken that and his new found "insider" status and played games with it. Why does Lawrie's twitter and instagram have to be littered with people asking him about a non tender just because this guy wants to feel like an insider when he has no info. IMO, if you want to be an insider, you have to behave responsibly. Just making s*** up or guessing because you know people will believe you and want info is not the way real insiders work.
  12. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:43 AM) After last year's Sox and free agent rumors, I believe nothing WSD has to say ( Cespedes 6/135M!) Just an attention whore that's full of s***. I fail to see how a festive reference ( as funny as it may be) correlates to a Q trade happening today. Here a fresh article from Fox speculating the Astros could still be in on Q. I suggest Sox fans read this to help remove WSD's nonsense from their minds. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/jose-qu...n-astros-122316 The guy definitely had a source, but that seems to have dried up. He took it and ran with it, but he's been off for a while now. Sale didn't cut up jerseys. Lawrie was getting non tendered....
  13. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 23, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) ? Mind elaborating? Internet tough guy (apparently he read something here and wants to punch me in the face, I'm pretty sure he would whiff) might either be buying a comb, or perhaps starts gum chewing lessons today. His source is drying up, and his 15 minutes of fame are coming to an end. http://wgntv.com/2016/06/20/dave-williams-...on-sports-feed/
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:27 PM) Funny. Rox FO might be gun shy after the Tulo trade blew up in their face. Media was surprisingly gentle with them, however. I wonder if Sox and Rox GM's knew each other in college since both went to Harvard. Secret handshake at least. Ian Desmond was 2016 Jimmy Rollins at the plate the 2nd half of the season. Yet the Rockies give him $70 million and on top of that, pencil him in at 1B, a position that makes him even less valuable. It's clear they are doing something very different in that FO when it comes to decision making time.
  15. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) Looks like Pirates sports writer's and the fan base really want Huntington to make a Q trade happen. http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/zeise-i...es/201612220170 The Pirates are a lot like the White Sox in that they shop at Marshall's not Saks 5th Ave. And when they are mentioned for a big name, like the Sox and big name free agents, at best, they come in second. So until they actually get a Q or someone else, it seems the people who know them best will believe it when they see it, and don't really think it will happen.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) Right, I wrote this last night but the post-mortems on the Sale trade seem to have indicated a timeline where Boston had agreed to a framework of Moncada/Kopech and then the flurry of Nats aggressive to get Sale came as the sox were putting heat on Boston to include Devers. I guess Sox at some point decided there was no escalation short of turner that Nats could offer to overcome Moncada as a headliner and moved forward. So yes, some team may have the basic framework and sox are putting heat on the non headliner, because it was not the case that Boston's final agreed to piece was Moncada, it was Basabe/Diaz. And supposedly the Nats upped their offer when it became apparent Boston took the lead. Once it's going to happen, all the bluffs have to stop. I would really be surprised if Lunhow doesn't come up with something enticing enough unless the Sox cannot live without Bregman. To me, he has to be the GM that values Q the most. This is like a 100 day Ebay auction. Some BS bids the first 98 or 99 days, then things get a little serious the final 15 minutes.
  17. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:39 PM) why are the Sox compromising in any Quintana deal, makes no sense. deal him at the deadline if you're not even getting what you want for him. glasnow as a centerpiece? we need position players so badly. They aren't compromising. They are looking for another home run. Hopefully in a few years, we all think all of these trades were home runs. For the White Sox.
  18. Could be that some team has met the price asked, and it's time for all the others to try to top it or look for another 5.0 WAR a year pitcher that is controlled for 4 more years at $38 million.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) The Rockies front office is run by a Random Number Generator, so it doesn't do any good to speculate based on need. On the other hand, you can never count them out. Just because they spent $90 million and haven't clearly upgraded their team? Maybe they have some sort of plan, but if they do, it isn't very clear. It does seem to be run by idiots, but then again Sandy Alderson is supposed to be quite bright, yet he seems to be allergic to CFers.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) NBA season doesn't really become important until after Christmas. This is about what I expected prior to their scorching first 3 games. But their bench is as terrible as I imagined. NBA season really doesn't become important until the playoffs anymore. The Bulls may make the playoffs, but they will be eliminated in short order if they do. Just another unremarkable very profitable year for them. It would be nice if they had the balls to fire not only Gar, but Pax as well. This isn't a case of Gar screws everything up, Pax is a genius. He has been around a long time, and has failed. He has unconditional love for any player he drafts, and unconditional hatred eventually for any coach he hires. I really thought he would be a good exec, but he sucks. Hoiberg can go to, but if Gar or Pax is still around, what's the point? Clean house or bust, but it won't happen, they are printing money.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 09:47 AM) Different tune to what he was saying on MLBN last night. For sure. But I still think especially if Meadows isn't on the table, a ploy to get other teams to make their best offer.
  22. The show on MLBN I was watching yesterday, where Heyman basically said there was very little chance Q went to Pittsburgh or the Yankees, whoever the host was mentioned when twitter got all in a flux about the Nats and Sale, the Red Sox made the trade. He mentioned this to Heyman and said can it be Houston will be trading for Q soon basically asking Heyman if these insiders were being used, and of course Heyman said he is sure it has happened but really doubts anyone is being used. They are all being used. Otherwise, there really is very little use for them if you think about it. Maybe Pittsburgh will give up the prospects, maybe the threat Q is off the table makes Houston up its offer. But obviously someone is getting antsy.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) Ooooh, Dick, got me again, right? Uh, that would be a no. I just don't like this prospect who is a member of the Pirates. Oh horrors! You will also note he dropped in BA's rankings as well. And to think only a year ago you (and others) were lecturing me from your high horse about the seminal, generational talents of Frazier and Samardzija. You might want to re-read the Samardzija trade thread. Of course Trayce Thompson is a prospect you build a team around. And when he was Glasnow's age, an age where you say he should be ready for a rotation spot, he was hitting .229 in AA striking out at an alarming rate.
  24. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) At one point a poster should be completely OK writing "heh, you are right how silly of me" It is a wonder nobody does it. I guess everyone needs to be correct 100% of the time. I really don't know much about Glasnow, but he was highly regarded, I don't see how his stock could have dropped, unless he has injury concerns. If he had shoulder issues, that is a big red flag. But to conclude a 22 year old is his 24 inning performance his first call up is absurd. He is 6'8", so mechanics can get really out of whack. I'd prefer some position players. The Sox need them, and they do have a lower bust rate, but this guy is a top of the line prospect. That is without doubt.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) Decline in prospect terms means they aren't making the progress they once were. May be overcome, or it may not be, but it needs to be discounted from player value. Yeah, his 1.87 ERA with 133 strikeouts and 65 hits allowed in 110 2/3 innings in AAA is a huge drop off. What do you have against facts?
