Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
Dick Allen replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 08:22 AM) He's 22 lol He has been too good for GreenSox. He likes mediocre guys. Glasnow is 22 has a 2.06 ERA in 500 minor league innings and struck out over 1 an inning during his brief call up. I want the Sox to get position players, but in decline, isn't ready for a rotation spot and should be at 22 is just so far against what he has posted about far lesser prospects. It has to be a joke. Now he isn't happy with prospects. -

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Well lets say the Pirates are including Meadows and not including Glasnow. If they get Quintana that would give them a Cole-Quintana-Taillon-Glasnow frontline for the next 3 years plus a whole bunch of pretty strong pitching prospect on the verge of becoming top prospects themselves. With age coming for Lester and Arrieta intent on pursuing free agency it would give the Pirates a pretty big boost nabbing Quintana. Pirates have a lot of talent, not quite Yankees level but in that tier. The way they draft they can withstand a hit to the farm to gain a pitcher like Quintana. They went from almost trading Cutch to trade the farm for Quintana a window is open? I have no doubt they would love to add Quintana. I have no doubt they have asked about him. What I do doubt is that they are willing to pay the price. They could be "working hard", but how hard is it? This is what it would take, yes or no? -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 01:47 PM) Agreed. Yanks didn't want to let it be known they were interested and spark a bidding war. This Pirates news timed with the Morosi tweet hints that the Pirates upped their offer fearing Yankees involvement. Now Cashman either has to up his price or pull back, two things GM's dont want to do. I still think this is another White Sox plant. The Pirates are decent, but they had the same record as the White Sox in 2016. There are a lot of good teams in the NL. Seems blowing up their farm at a chance at a WC would be weird. They need a lot of things to go right to be back in playoff mode. Even with Q taking no one off their major league roster. This kind of reminds me of all the supposed "interest" in Viciedo a couple of years ago, although I am sure these teams would love Q, I don't think right now the Yankees or Pirates meeting the price makes much sense from their point of view. It may be a ploy to get the other teams involved. I am sure the White Sox would rather have their price met now than at the deadline or later when a drop in performance or injury are risks. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) I think you'll keep hearing it until he actually leads a rotation. Not that I agree but until he shows it. It's just not common for a guy to be an MiLB FA and perform the way he has. He has never had the hype in his career. He was overshadowed by Sale playing on a mediocre team. He was the Ben Zobrist of pitching. Guys get lost in the shuffle. Even here were people know more than the average, when there was talk about Zobrist, some thought he would make a good reserve. The guy put up 8.6, 3.8, 6.3 ,5.8, 5.0, 5.5 WAR seasons in a 6 year stretch. He was virtually unknown to be one of the best players in the game. When you thought of best players, he wouldn't come to mind, just like anyone who doesn't follow the White Sox doesn't really think of Jose Quintana when they think about the better pitchers in the game. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 12:25 PM) I saw the last few minutes and while ND was trying to get cheap calls, you can tell he was going to shake hands until they tried to steal the ball and that made him pull his team off the floor before the shake. Bush League. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. Not bush league. Probably should have shaken hands, but how ND conducted itself the last 4 or 5 minutes of the game, that was bush league. -

There is zero chance the White Sox have too much pitching, but they do need to get at least some position players. Pitchers do have a higher bust rate. 2 or 3 years from now, if you need to fill 4 or 5 staring position players spots, you are going to be having some problems. -

There were a couple cheap shots near the end and the last play was ridiculous. Probably should have shaken hands, but that link doesn't tell the whole story. It also could have gotten ugly. -

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) "Working hard" is pretty imminent language. This could really accelerate with the Pirates at any time, which is BAD BAD BAD for my productivity. I don't think so. They know the price. It's just a term that they have real interest IMO. -

One thing in the Pirates favor if they traded for Quintana is if they weren't winning and decided to reset, he is still, as long as he's healthy and doing what he is doing, going to be worth a lot of prospects. They could always flip him for new ones. -

QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 12:29 PM) The Yankees finished in 4th place at 84-78 last year...9 games back of Boston--who just got a lot better with the Sale trade. It's just puzzling to think they would see themselves as ready to contend enough to mortgage their farm to acquire Quintana right now. Houston finished with the same 84-78 record and they were 11 games back. A guy like Quintana could make either of these 2 teams a potential 90-win team, but both would have a lot of other work to do to somehow catch the clubs in front of them who are more than just a little better than them! My sales pitch would be this...No...Quintana might not be the player who vaults either one of those teams to 1st place...but he would close at least half that gap by himself and his low salary would enable them to still go out and close it more with others. One would think they would need to do that before the season started because every win will matter for the Yankees and Astros chances of winning their division...however, the talks going on now may be more realistically laying the groundwork for a July 31st deal--just to see where they are then. I agree. I was watching MLBN yesterday and Brian Kenny was grilling Morosi as to why the Yankees would do this. Morosi, who has been called an idiot here more than once, seed to think Q's 4 years of control was a big reason. It still makes litttle sense to me why the Yankees would trade all the prospects they have just gained, but Eric Byrnes and Billy Ripken both said they need to make the trade. I don't really think there is anything to it, but I also thought Moncada was off the table. -
Here's something else. Blake Hickman put his time off because of TJS to good use. He went back to Iowa and completed his degree. https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20161220/en...te-sox-prospect

Q is great, but this really makes no sense for the Yankees. Their hope is these young guys pan out. They cannot compete with Boston now with Q,giving up what they would have to give up, would hurt their chances in the future. So unless they are prepared to spend zillions of dollars, I can't seem them making this trade. -

Why did McCaffery play the last 4 or 5 games if injury was such a concern? -

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) If only we were all physically gifted enough to live life on our own terms. To each his own. You want to feel sorry for a guy making his money going an extra 2 innings, and using that as an excuse why he gave up runs in the WS go ahead. Was it his fault he was suspended ? I wonder what his excuse was when Gordon Beckham beat his ass in 2015. Couldn't have been his fault. -

QUOTE (Donaldo @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 06:58 PM) I agree that Chapman probably should've kept those comments to himself, but I agree with him. Who puts their CLOSER in the game in the 7th inning with a 5 run lead (especially when he KNEW he'd probably need him the next night)? And you wonder why he was tired in game 7. Hendricks was on cruise control in game 7. It made zero sense to take him out of the game when he did. If Rajai Davis would've had one more baserunner, the Indians would be World Champions. IMO, the Cubs won it IN SPITE of Maddon. Yeah. Poor guy had to pitch 7 innings in a WS. Gets a ring and an $86 million 5 year contract so he can go buy more guns and bullets ts and fire them at his girlfriend. I feel bad for him. -
JB has a problem. He isn't good enough to be a regular, and needs regular ABs to be any kind of effective. He is a hustler though.
-
He has other faults, but the biggest problem with Hoiberg is development. Gar/Pax has done him no favors by crafting a team that really isn't in his style. But the guys closest to his style haven't developed. Niko has gone backwards. Mc ermott has his moments but is still inconsistent, and may be one of the worst defenders of all time, Valentine has been hurt but doesn't seem to have much of a clue. The bench is bad but isn't at least part of that on the coachand/or his staff? I doubt they launch Fred. I think Gar is running out of buddies who could pass as an NBA coach, and even if he has one or two left, it would probably be another downgrade.

I love any piece blasting Maddon and/or the Cubs, but JFC, you won the WS, what are you complaining about Chapman? You would think a guy like that would want the ball. -
As long as Gar is around, Hoiberg is probably about as good as you are going to get. Wait until Rondo goes full psycho. A lot had to go right for this roster to be anything better than right around .500. If and when Wade starts showing his age, they might even be worse than last season.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) How dare anyone on this website post something as a "devil's advocate" just to promote some discussion besides for the inanely boring "I saw this rumor on twitter." Maybe that was exciting back when the Sox were going to trade for Nomar, but I think that was the last time I got caught up in the "speculation hype train." So lets go back to what makes this forum great: "I saw some random guy on twitter say that X is going to happen!!!!!!!" Yeah, Drake LaRoche conspiracy threads are far more compelling.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) An injury in spring training or early in the season to an OF or 3B could make Frazier or Cabrera a very attractive rental replacement for a contender as well. Being able to acquire a capable starter under contract for just 2017 could end up being a godsend if a core player goes down. But if they are that attractive and worth a better prospect from another team, the White Sox are more than likely winning more games than most imagined. So the idea of a real high draft pick would be by the boards.
-
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:42 AM) Personally, it's just not in my DNA to ever turn on a White Sox game and somehow hope that they will lose. I don't care what the state of the team or organization is at that time I turn a game on. I want my team to win - always! I feel the same way. If I really wanted them to lose, I really have no reason to pay attention.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) Like a few people have said on here, lucky for us, we don't have to root for or against losses; they will just happen regardless. I think they should, but what people should really cheer for if they want the Sox to max their draft position is to trade as many of their better players as possible before the games start to count. Hoping to max out on everybody, probably isn't realistic, and they may, if they are maxing out, help you win meaningless games. You can't settle for Q or Abreu or probably Jones. The other short term vets,, if there is anything legit, and the goal is a high pick, you should probably take what you can get. At the very least, you could save their salaries, and spend it on something when you need it. If you traded Frazier, Melky, and Robertson for nothing at all, you would save around $40 million. Put it in the bank and spend it on a top of the line guy when you need it.
