  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:18 PM) The other thing that needs to be brought up in every Eaton thread is that he's a guy we heard the word "attitude" used about even before we traded for him, and he just might not be that good of a guy to have around on a team that is clearly looking 3 years down the road and just traded a guy he's probably friends with. Marking, the Sox beat guy who the clubhouse, not on the internet reaching for anything negative to say about anything White Sox, says he is great in the. Clubhouse. It's on a CSN podcast on their site if to listen to it. And here is the story about his "bad attitude" you constantly refer to with Arizona.. maybe you need to retire it. http://archive.azcentral.com/sports/diamon...adam-eaton.html
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:00 PM) If they win the world series that will be an entirely fair statement that would take Moncada turning into Trout to match. BS. If Sale helps them win the WS, it was clearly worth it for them, but it would not mean the White Sox lost at all even if Moncada doesn't turn into Trout, which is likely.
  3. Kudos to KW and RH for ignoring the artificial trade deadline of the first day of the Winter Meetings. Congrats on acquiring the most exciting player probably since Frank Thomas. And congrats on getting some sweet revenge and using Mike Rizzo like their b****, waiting for DD to conclude he has never met a prospect he wouldn't trade,
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 04:13 PM) The thing that irritates me about trading him was the epic failure of the organization to build around two front of the rotation guys. It sucks but it's over. Moncada time. Go to Fangraphs. Go to MLB.com. Check out Keith Law. They all rave about him. Robinson Cano with more speed. A perennial 5 WAR guy. An MVP type talent. Boston paid $63 million to trade him to the White Sox. As long as he stays healthy he is going to be a beast. I hate losing Sale as much as anyone. But this guy is an offensive player the Sox haven't had in a while. If Anderson continues to improve, the keystone combo will be one of the leagues best, if not the best in a couple of years.
  5. Awesome pitcher wish him well. Have read several what an as hole h is posts, and there is no doubt cutting up jerseys is one of most ridiculous things ever, but he could be a cool dude. My nephew was on the field for BP one day and he signed a couple of things for him and took a picture, talked to him for a bit. My nephew is still buzzed over that.,
  6. He contradicts himself unless Abreu is supposed to go to Charlotte. Keep Moncada in the minors but have him develop a bond with Abreu.
  7. Wow. The top prospect in baseball plus. Awesome. Hate to see Sale go. Hope he makes the HOF. But Moncada is the guy who I said they could not get and they got.
  8. According to Stark, Nats told teams if they completed a Sale trade, Gio would become available. Apparently Gio is available. Maybe they want some physicals.
  9. QUOTE (Username @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) It looks like he deleted the other trade info too? Unless I'm an idiot and just can't find the post. Would seem to indicate the Sale thing might not be BS. Good point. He definitely took it down.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I don't know. I think it's overblown. Moncada was in AA and got a september callup for a handful of at bats. You like Moncada because he has developed his power, but almost everything else Robles already has at a premium defensive position. Both have good plate discipline and walk rates. Robles OTOH doesn't strike out. Robles was a 19 year old in A+, Moncada was a 21 year old in AA. I'm fine with either. Depends on what surrounds them. If we can continue to find dynamite athletic players like Anderson and Robles with the rest of the rebuild we could end up with a Royals like team. Robles has a below average walk rate. Still very young, I,admit, and could or should go up.
  11. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:05 AM) Yes, because that made up metric WAR means everything and is the be all, end all to all baseball conversations and who will/won't win. To emphasize this, I saw a graphic on MLBN yesterday. Th last 2 seasons Mets are under .500 without Cespedes in the line up, and about 40 over with him in the line up. One player can cause a lot of change.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 07:51 AM) So who wants to guess what is going on here? Do we think a package based on Giolito and Robles is an acceptable framework for the Sox? And that we are just haggling, as Rosenthal said, over the remaining pieces? I'm going to guess we still are asking for Turner in any deal. I know some folks think that is ridiculous, and I am not saying I don't agree, but my guess is this deal would be pretty close to done by now if we were ok with Giolito and Robles as the headliners. My guess is Hahn and Co are still asking for Turner, Giolito and Robles, while Washington is willing to agree to the latter two. Then, if Boston jumps in with an offer of either Benintendi or Moncada, but not the other pieces we desire, we can go back to Washington asking for Turner. That's just my feeling for how the Sox are hoping this will go. I hope so. These 2 are ranked pretty high but there are so questions. Rizzo doesn't make bad trades. Maybe he is due. But if he has a top 5 prospect in baseball and a starting pitcher, why would he use that and another top 10 guy to get a starter when he has other needs? Giolitto was like James Shields in his time with the Nats last season. I know it isn't necessarily a sign to come. He is young and you can't expect a 21 year old to dominate from the start. But if a guy like Benetendi struggled with the bat when he was called up as much as he struggled on the mound, there is a decent chance a package centered around Benetendi would not be desired here. Robles has tools no question. But....he has nice numbers, however .065 of his OBP and OPS are getting HBP. He has more HBP in his career than walks. That makes one question a few things. Is he a guy that is going to get hit 30-40 times a season? If he is, you run the risk of him missing a lot of development time and post development time. If he is not, is he capable of improving his OBP with fewer HBP? This is Chris Sale, I don't think it is unreasonable to demand a surer thing. Prospect rankings be damned.
  13. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) I know it's all smoke screens until something actually happens, but if all these teams aren't willing to give up what it's going to take for Sale, why not just pivot and spend some money for f***ing once? You're really telling me this team couldn't compete if they signed EE and Castillo and traded for a CF? I just hope Hahn is smart enough to not get caught up s***s creek without a paddle again thinking the market will come to him. No way the Sox would sign EE. The comp system is still the one from last year. They aren't giving up pick 12. They are definitely rebuilding. Just because they haven't cleared everyone out by Monday of the Winter Meetings doesn't mean things aren't going to start heating up. How many other teams have their roster set right now for 2017?
  14. QUOTE (Saufley @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:06 PM) Mark and others, If the Sox don't get an "anchor player" for Sale what could they get in return for Quintana? Any chance the Sox start throwing his name out there to see what he would get in return? Supposedly the offers for Quintana aren't near the offers for Sale. The moron Morosi actually said if the Sox traded Q or Eaton they wouldn't be blockbuster trades. If that is true, there is no reason to trade them.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) A lot of good his fWAR has done us, too! I'm saying if you're going off of their development trajectories since draft day, I suspect the order might switch. And if the Sox would have selected Schwarber or Turner, a lot of good they would have done the team too.
  16. I would like Rosenthal to say a deal is close. It might make some other teams flinch.. No reason to offer your top guy if no one else is. But once that seal is broken, who knows what happens.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) And by the time Carlos comes into his own he'll be due $200 million. Typical White Sox fan response. He has 5 years of control, and was starting to come into his own last season. But ignore it. He was a horrible draft pick. Schwarbs was so much better. Even though he didn't play in 2016. If you seriously have a problem with the White Sox drafting Carlos Rodon, you will probably be disappointed almost every draft. I doubt any team has actually drafted the guy that turned into the best player on the board when they drafted every pick. Rodon is solid. If he is capable of a $200 million contract you apparently like his talent.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) That's not my point. If the draft were held today again, I'd still take my chances with Rodon, and I think most baseball experts would as well. My point is that today, Sale is still obviously so much better than Rodon, which therefore makes it surprising that Turner would be considered untouchable in a trade for Sale. The kid hit .342 with power and speed in 100 games. Of course his value is inflated now. If he sustains those numbers he should have gone #1. I wouldn't bet on that, although I still think he will be a great player. Rodon looks like he will be a top of the rotation guy. A solid pick at #3.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) The book is still out on Carlos. As of right now, both Turner and Schwarbs are the better picks. LMAO. The book is still out on everyone. Schwarber has 8 career hits vs. LHP and appears to be a DH.
  20. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 5, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Wonder if we misdrafted in 2014 when we selected Carlos Rodon over the now seemingly untouchable Trea Turner, who we are told cannot be included in a trade for perennial Cy Young finalist Chris Sale. Last I looked, Sale >>>> Rodon, at least at this point in time. I would think Sox fans would be happy with Rodon. He is pretty good.
  21. According to Rosenthal, the Dodgers are only expecting 120 innings a season from Hill. I guess that is being realistic. He has made 20 starts once in his career. 2007. A very unique career. Congrats to him for sticking with it and getting paid.
  22. Turner is great, but chances are he isn't going to have a .388 BABIP ever agsin, and his homer rate should probably drop as well. He still is top of the line, but moveable if you look at it realistically. If he hits .340 with 25 homers and 40 steals, you can't trade him. But .300 with 15 homers and 35 steals? It is the price you pay for the current version of Sale.
