  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) But sometimes when the opposing team gets a big hit late in a game, Hawk just goes silent for like 30 seconds Maybe some that do not understand the game needs him to say something, but you watch the games and know what is going on. What do you need him to say?
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 05:56 PM) SEE BELOW/ABOVE... If I was computer expert, there would be an accompanying series of arrows pointing down/up. But yeah, I'm sure he's quite ashamed of getting to the World Series twice in a row and coming one hit away from two in a row...despite the fact that KC is the smallest media market in the NFL/NBA/MLB. What an idiot, because he missed on Alex Rios and Omar Infante. But all those resources he spent on Infante and Rios. They could have extended their run. Wasted opportunity. It is going to cost him core pieces to pay guys that contributed nothing. That is what makes small windows.that's why KC is going to suck again real soon. And he spent $70 million on Ian Kennedy when Junoir Guerra was out there for a minor league contract. They need a new GM and if he drafted Chris Sale instead of Christain Colon, he could have kept Finnegan and his 4.71 ERA because he never would have needed Cueto. Could you imagine Sale and Finnegan and Guerra in that rotation? Dynasty.
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) Yes, and I can pull 2-3 mods' comments that were VERY VERY GLOWING. That said, you have to be RIGHT occasionally (let's say, 25% of the time) when you go dumpster diving. Otherwise, it simply becomes a matter of wasting resources. And that was at a time when Hahn "appeared" to be committed to the idea of rebuilding...which quickly got thrown out the window. Remember, we were all pitched that idea by the front office that guys like Downs, Paulino and Belisario could be flipped at the deadline for young prospects when they performed well...? The other was the former Cardinals' closer, and maybe Miguel Cleto. The difference is the mods aren't panning the move years later in a desperate attempt to try to look like they have any clue about baseball. I,suppose he could have been more like,Dayton Moore and spent money on Omar Infante.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 05:11 PM) Don't forget Downs and Paulino, lol... Latos and Rollins at least contributed to some win shares, especially Latos' first four starts and eating innings in the string of mediocre ones he had afterwards. Of course, if you take Danks' money, Shields' money...and look at their combined results this year as the 4th/5th starter (not sure where you fit Latos, Gonzalez and Johnson in), that's over $20 million for below replacement level pitching. They need to be back in the business of signing guys like Paulino. Too much logic in this one-- Caulfield12 in the Sox sign Felipe Paulino thread.
  5. Yesterday was the second anniversary of Paul Konerko's final home run.
  6. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Wouldn't be surprised if @idrubkcaz15_U jumps from Double-A to the White Sox IF they team decides he's ready and fits a need. https://twitter.com/scottmerkin/status/750415104747958272 Merkin going out on a limb. If he's ready and fills a need, he wouldn't be surprised he was called up. Wow.
  7. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:26 PM) If he struggles, I wouldn't rush him. I agree. He has to earn it, but it's obviously there for the taking.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:07 PM) I don't see the Bulls really being in it and I just think Wades camp is using them as leverage. Which is fine. Might as well get any other team spending more cash and lessening any potential cap space for when they need to spend. MLB, might not make much sense. But these caps, make them pay as much as possible.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:16 PM) Dude, it takes like 15 seconds to even get to the person. Then 20 seconds and that battle is OVA!
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Definitely on the fast track we'll see how he does. There definitely appears to be a plan.
  11. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Ok, I don't do this often. DA and Caulfield, I recommend you guys both download League of Legends and fight 1 v 1. It would be like a Tyson fight. I would win in 5 seconds.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 02:05 PM) You're right, you are such a great fan...so you're in favor of giving both of them 3 year extensions RIGHT NOW for the great work they've both done so far, yes? And Ventura's HoF plaque is surely on its way, as soon as he leaves the White Sox, that is. PS: Please PM the 38 who don't think the White Sox will make the playoffs and call them out for being "bad fans," that should keep you occupied. LOL It's pretty clear you aren't a Sox fan. There can't be anyone on this site who really thinks if the Sox were playing Cleveland or KC you wouldn't be pulling for the White Sox to get swept. So again, to be a bad Sox fan, you actually have to be a Sox fan. You are not. Whining, whining, more whining, making ridiculous arguments (Tom Gorzalanny, really?). You are melting just as predicted if the Sox played well.
  13. This is hysterical. The guy who twice said he was leaving this site until KW and/or Ventura got fired, is now so upset the Sox have won 10 of 14 and are right back in the playoff hunt, he can't leave Rick Hahn alone. Now the organization was in good shape when Hahn became the GM. When it was the anti KW narrative, something totally different. Remember when Dayton Moore seemingly invented baseball? Here is his team at when he was at a similar tenure as Hahn. 65-97. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/KCR/2010.shtml
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) I think it is hard to compare Burdi to Sale-Fulmer-Rodon because he came from college as a reliever, whereas the other three were starters. Stretching Burdi IMO is a different beast because he truly doesnt have the same kind of workload as they did Burdi is going to need an offseason to recover and then prepare if that's what they decide to do with him.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 01:09 PM) Herrera gets his chance to "early audition" for the role he will eventually take over anyway. Five All-Stars out for a significant period of time and counting. Certainly Wade Davis is an all star. Gordon and Moustakis and Cain were not all star performers this season. On the other hand, if we use your definition, if Navarro and Shields collide on a bunt and both get hurt, the Sox can say they lost 2 all stars.
  16. Wade Davis to the DL. They should have signed Joba and Gorzelanny this past offseason. What where they thinking? Instead, they let Joba go for nothing.
  17. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) You may have wanted to actually pay attention to Rajon Rondo's career to understand that he's not good, and is a horrible cancer to every team he plays. All you need to know about his 11 assists is told in the fact that the Kings were better with him on the bench. he also stopped playing defense at the end of his Boston time. I bet Fred Hoiberg gets it out of him though, right guys? It is only a positive in that he may blow up the locker room, get punched in the face by Paxson, get everyone fired, we end up with Josh Jackson. In that case, well, he is the best signing of the offseason. The other problem is Rondo is good enough to keep the Bulls in double figures range with their draft pick. You either have to be awesome or be terrible. The Bulls chose neither.
  18. I think the bat is going to depend on what Morneau looks like. A couple more relievers would be nice. Who knows, maybe Burdi and Fulmer can help out in September.
  19. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) Actually, there was no moaning until you arrived in the discussion and brought the quality of the discourse way down by beginning to do so. That is your M-O around here - whining and moaning about one thing after another. It never ends with you (see hundreds and hundreds of threads with you whining and moaning about all things Caufield). You might want to look into curbing that behavior. Meanwhile, one wonders which players teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, Cubs, and the others sitting it out this year, which players they would have gone after. Answer - the ones on those top lists from BA, Fangraphs, etc. They would have gobbled those players up faster than Grant took Richmond. It's what they do year after year after year. But now in a year when none of those heavy hitters are in the mix to compete, you're telling us that Paddy and Hostetler are so much smarter than everybody else, that bypassing everyone on those top lists is somehow a sound, sage strategy. I suppose you reached that conclusion based on the routine success we've seen from Paddy since he took over his position six years ago. System is flush with international talent he's scouted and convinced to sign with the organization. Wait - no it's not. I showed you the list of the highest bonuses paid out 6 years ago. If you really think these guys in 6 years should be starring in the major leagues, you aren't paying attention. It will take longer than 6 years to see what kind of job Paddy is doing. Trying to project the equivalent of sophomores and juniors in high school to what type of player they will be as a grown adult isn't as easy as you apparently think.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:26 AM) It's one thing to use Wilder as the Dominican excuse. It doesn't or shouldn't have anything to do with Puerto Rico (which is part of the June draft now anyway), Cuba, Venezuela, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Central America, Asia/Australia, etc. 10 Did I win today's edition of Caulfield math?
  21. My wife insisted we go to the game yesterday which shocked me. I went on Stubhub and got some $10 tickets ($15 or so with fees) and we sat about 10 rows up right above the bullpen bar. When the Sox hit a homer they have Hawk on recording say You can put it on the board, yes! about the time the guy circles the bases and reaches home plate. I don't usually sit in the OF, so I don't know if it's normal, but the entire RF was screaming it with Hawk. It was great.
  22. Sox are playing well, Caulfield is in meltdown mode like the Wicked Witch of the West.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:55 AM) I don't think Feeky is responsible for who stays on the White Sox 40 man roster, any more than he was responsible for scouting Quintana with the Mets and Yankees in their respective systems. But, if he spotted something, more power to him. Maybe the White Sox need to sign him to a contract. And that kind of "everyone else missed it" thing was no comfort to Cashman on Q or Contreras, nor was it to all the teams who passed on drafting Mike Trout. In fact in the thread Feeky created about it this season, you said it was about 500,000 to 1 odds Junior Guerra has Jose Quintana's career. Of course that is the same Jose Quintana you mentioned as a trade chip in 2012 when you were happy the White Sox re-signed Jake Peavy. You mentioned his signing frees up Quintana to go for a 3B. Too bad you didn't mention any names, it would have been more hysterical.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2016 -> 07:33 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...ept-dream-alive Where was Paddy's assessment??? Venezuela is supposed to be his first country of expertise. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/331117601.html The pickup of Guerra is interesting in that he'll be 31 years old by the time the Brewers open spring training, and he was out of affiliated baseball from 2009-'14. Neither would seem to mesh with a team in the midst of a rebuild. Guerra, a native Venezuelan, made a total of 31 appearances between Class AA Birmingham and Class AAA Charlotte in Chicago's system – including 11 starts. All told, he went 4-7 with a 3.13 ERA and a WHIP of 1.10 with 105 strikeouts in 83 1/3 innings. From 2008-'14, Guerra played in the Venezuelan Winter League as well as a number of other foreign and unaffiliated leagues. He began his career in 2006 and spent that year in the system of the Atlanta Braves, then spent the 2008 season in the New York Mets' system before being suspended 50 games for PED use. The White Sox signed Guerra as a free agent last October, and he went 6-4 with a 3.46 ERA in 15 starts in the Venezuelan Winter League. The only one on this board who would have a beef about Guerra is Feeky. Other than that, no one said anything when the Sox let him go. He will go south at some point. I wonder how Dayton Moore missed on that one. He could have saved the $70 million he gave Ian Kennedy for some of his free agents.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 4, 2016 -> 11:45 PM) their primary trade targets. Need to shore up their starting pitching for the 2nd half of the season, with all their injuries/staff uncertainty. http://www.yardbarker.com/mlb/articles/ran..._12680_21247018 Someone needs to inform then a few of their trade targets are already with the organization,
