  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) They always give me a perfect pie, its just amazing. I like to order the caesar salad, 2 pies (one for each of us) and a bottle of wine and its a glorious dinner. The other thing I don't understand about it is it really isn't very big, but every time we go in there, despite the hype, we get seated right away. A salad to split, a couple of pies and Schlitz is how I go.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Coalfire is A1, no contest. Forno Rossa is pretty good too. My problem with a lot of these places is they are so scared of burning the crust, it winds up undercooked. Coalfire isn't afraid to cook the crust. You see them throwing out pies they overcooked all the time, but they won't undercook them. I think that is the key to success. If shipps' buddy can master cooking the crust, I'm sure his topping will be of high quality, he should be a big hit.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) You can get two seats together on Stubhub for just under $200 each. Bleacher tickets are going for under $250. My how quickly the fans have lost faith. Rooftops are also on Groupon, although I don't know if they are the ones behind boards.
  4. Frontera doesn't open until 5 and there will be a line. If Italian is OK, right behind the Hancock, (just east) is Franchesca's. reasonably priced, and their fish is really good. They get crowded late, but should be pretty wide open when you want to dine.
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:33 AM) They didn't lowball when they drafted Appel. They just flat out missed that pick. And going low worked great for the Astros in 2012 when they got Correa with the first overall pick and then were able to get McCullers with their compensation pick. Last year I would have taken Rodon if I was them but there were a lot of people that loved Aiken. It just sucks for the Astros that he has elbow issues. I agree with you that passing up on a premium talent to save money is in most instances is a mistake but I don't think that is really what happened in the Astros' case. They lowballed Appel. He signed for well under slot, as he had no leverage. Bryant would have cost the slot and then some., and Rodon was going to cost the slot and then some. Aiken originally agreed to below slot.
  6. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 09:10 AM) that is exactly my point. because a team went over/under on a pick means nothing in isolation about whether it was dumb/smart/cheap/aggressive, whatever. I still think you pick the best player available. Very rarely do teams have more than 2 or 3 players in the same draft wind up with more than a 1.0 career WAR. This saving money for the 7th or 8th round I would bet hasn't been so fruitful. If from what we are told when we mention the Samardzija comp pick, that it is not so valuable, it has to be more valuable than the guys teams lowball their #1 pick to sign later, and lowballing a pick could mean you wind up with Mark Appel and not Kris Bryant, and Brady Aiken instead of Carlos Rodon. While a couple of people here say it was no big deal, if the White Sox did that, it would mean everyone who has ever even thought about working for the White Sox should be fired.
  7. Bill Murray was on Jimmy Kimmel and apparently said if the Cubs were to win the WS, Cubs fans could become unbearable. If a Cubs fan says that...........
  8. Houston didn't draft Rodon or Kris Bryant so they could have a few more dollars to go around. If they actually did draft the best player available, they might still be playing right now.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2015 -> 07:02 AM) No, they don't. The Cubs coverage is always greater, because they are the greater media product. Exactly. In 1993 the White Sox are in the ALCS. Broadcasting live from what was then called Comiskey Park, the first story in sports was the Cubs fired Jim Levebvre. The Cubs will always get more coverage until enough people become interested in the White Sox. The White Sox do get more coverage than the Fire and the Sky, and the Sky are pretty good.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 04:50 PM) My buddy is opening up a brick oven pizza place within the next year or so (near the Cell). Lately he has been hitting up a lot of the ones in or near the Chicago area to check out the soon to be competition and find out what is good/not good. I went with him to Sono on Clybourn and it was great. He said that it ranks up there with Cold Fire (His top rated so far). What are your recommendations? He will definitely try it and I will probably go with him. He doesn't want to leave any stone un-turned. Coalfire is my favorite. Pizzeria Da Nella on Fullerton can be really good.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 04:28 PM) Probably because it's confirmed, and the history of what had happened prior with giants. I think they had a hearing over it. One team was dealing with street agents, I think the Cubs, while the Giants were dealing by text with what they believed to be their registered agent. Cubs win. Hopefully their last one for a while.
  12. There really is no reason to like Brown more than Garcia.
  13. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) I never said they were worse. I just think they'll continue to have those problems against good pitching teams. The reason teams are considered good pitching teams is because not much is scored on them. If you are facing a stud pitcher, there's probably a better chance of hitting one in the seats than stringing together 3 or 4 hits. Just look at Sale, Chris. Things also get back closer to the mean after a while. The Cubs hit all those HR vs St. Louis. Maybe it will correct itself a bit this series.
  14. The 2014 Mets and 2015 White Sox are somewhat similar. Offensively and defensively challenged, nice young pitching. KW and Hahn get a couple of guys who can hit and catch the ball, another guy or two either bounce back or develop, next year could be a lot better than many think.
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 19, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) In addition to 100 more innings, his fastball has been 2 MPH faster, probably adding more stress. I was wondering about this since he has struggled a bit and some have speculated he may be at lest slightly injured. What if in his next start he blew out his elbow and needed TJ. Would the Cubs pay him his arb number next season to rehab?
  16. Arietta's last 7 2/3 IP, 8 ER. In his 100 IP before that, 4 ER. They have to hope he isn't out of gas, because if he is, they have no chance. But there is no way he could have kept up that pace. 4 ER in 100 IP is pretty insane.
  17. The wind is supposed to be howling out on Tuesday night which should help the Cubs, but if they do lose, does Maddon skip Hammel in game 4?
  18. Jim Caldwell gets an A in dumb decisions. He still needs a TD.
  19. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) Never heard the outcome of that suit, but at the time it was reported by the Tribune, the article mentioned that once Ms. Irmer successfully got the Sox to actually start paying rent in 2008 for a stadium that they were simply reaping all of the rewards from at no cost to them, it was all over but the shouting for her. According to the Trib, Reinsdorf immediately began lobbying the Blago to get her fired, which eventually culminated in the actions taken by Thompson as noted above. Let that be a lesson for anyone thinking they can tinker with Jerry Reinsdorf's sweet heart lease deal with the state of Illinois that he received by threatening to move the team to Florida if his demands weren't met. That's the esteemed leader of our White Sox right there, in all of his glory. If only Reinsdorf were as good at producing sustainable, winning ball clubs as he is at blackmail, maybe we all would have prospered somewhat as a result of the sweet heart deal instead of only Reinsdorf and the investors. They've become immensely wealthy; meanwhile, we've only seen postseason play come to U.S. Cellular Field just four times in the ballpark's 25 year existence. Suit was dismissed. Jerry Reinsdorf not wanting to pay one more dime than his lease requires, what an unusual individual. I am sure if you were renting a place and had a 2 year lease, if a month in the landlord wanted you to pay more, you , like the rest of us, would just get the checkbook and ask how much more did they want.
  20. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Lol - umm, yes, I knew that, but don't you agree it was more interesting to treat the pesky little comment as if he did mean it? I thought so, at least, and that's what I did. Hope you enjoyed the retort! Why would you ever have become a White Dox fan if complaining isn't your favorite hobby? While you blame Reinsdorf for 34 of the past 35 years, using your criteria for exciting seasons the White Sox hadn't had one BEFORE JR since 1917. so the previous 63 seasons were all horrible misery as well. I why didn't you answer my question about what you are going to do about it? Just keep complaining? That hasn't worked.
  21. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 18, 2015 -> 08:43 AM) Definitely. Was also Rudock's worst game and he has been serviceable since then. For them to review the targeting in the Michigan game and still toss Bolden, easily the worst call I have seen in years. That whole crew yesterday was a joke. Both ways. I agree. I can understand a bad targeting call happening live, but I can't understand how a replay guy can come to the same conclusion. That replay guy had a couple of others that made you wonder.
  22. Kris Bryant's road splits are Avi Garcia like .243/.333/.360
  23. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 17, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) Another throw away comment only meant to insult, when you can't refute facts. So sad for you. Meanwhile, in 34 of Jerry Reinsdorf's 35 years of ownership of our White Sox, the team has failed to win even one playoff series. Not one! It's almost impossible to believe. The Kansas City Royals have a more impressive postseason record during this same time period, for crying out loud. That's why when we true diehard fans see the kinds of results we've seen as recently as the past decade, and yet the operating model still continues to be dominated by an unaccountable loyalty program, you see the angst in so many comments at a site like this. It also explains the miserably low attendance and TV ratings. These are the facts of the past as they relate to Reinsdorf's management of the team. He's been a complete disaster as owner. Now, can he and his unaccountable henchmen find a way to turn this thing around and find that elusive "sustained success" they've been "talking about" for so long now? I guess it's possible - anything can happen. But boy oh boy, their track record doesn't create much confidence in their ability to do so. I hope they prove me wrong! Yep Reimsdorf is trying to screw all of us.
  24. I wonder if Lip even realizes in the same thread he says ethical journalism would mean each team is covered equally despite whether there is any interest or not, (seems laughable to me)he posted in the "Golden Age"which I am guessing was the time he considered journalists had ethics, the White Sox received "the lion's share of the coverage,". Seems under his definition that wasn't very ethical. I guess, as Geddy Lee has belted out many times, the more things change, the more they stay they same.
