  1. QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) The World Series and offseason have no influence on their 2016 steamer numbers, not really sure what the point you're trying to make is. Feel free to contribute nothing to the thread though, you're certainly entitled to do that. The Sox season ended 3 weeks ago. They were bad. What did you expect their projected WAR to be right now.? Go ahead a rip me but you are the guy whining before any offseason move is made by any team in baseball about a team that finished 10 games under .500 and their projected cumulative WAR for next season. Again, what did you expect it to be at this point? And again, I am pointing out to you that even on April 1 which is 5 months from now and every team had a moreaccurate roster, Fangraphs was off, missing every playoff team in the AL. In 2015. So did PECOTA. So again it is October. Fast forward 5 months, the projections still mean nothing. The projections on April 1this year had every AL playoff team missing the playoffs. It certainly isn't proof that next year is going to suck.
  2. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:28 PM) This guy seems salty : https://thenohustleblog.wordpress.com/2015/...white-sox-fans/ If you’re wondering, why the hell am I not writing a post about how well the Cubs did this season rather than calling out White Sox fans, don’t you worry. I wrote one weeks ago. Truth be told, the 2015 season for the Chicago Cubs was my favorite season as a fan ever. Better than 2003, 2007 or 2008 – this team was magical and the run they went on shocked me into a euphoric state of pride. Outside of the heralded Crosstown Classic, I barely noticed the Chicago White Sox or cared what they were doing. It wasn’t until the playoffs began before I noticed the South Siders – and it had nothing to do with their team, but rather, their insufferable fans. The inescapable gloating and desperation exhibited by Sox fans during the month of October was quite possibly the saddest thing I have witnessed from an overall fanbase in sports. So, here you are, Sox fans, here is your attention you vehemently demanded as your forgotten team was lost in the abyss of the offseason long before meaningful games took place. Make no mistake, I know my words mean nothing to you and the majority of South Side fans who read this or see it slide across their timeline will simply think, “Hah, you mad, bro?” and move on. I wouldn’t say angry, on the contrary, I am genuinely embarrassed for you. Obviously not all Sox fans are Cub-bashing try-hards, but unfortunately, it seemed like the majority were obsessed with the idea of the Cubs losing. The most hilarious part? Most of the fans who I saw predominately spouting off were also the ones who would think of Disney over baseball if they heard the name Minnie Minoso. The casual fans who come out of the woodwork to do nothing more than troll Cubs fans are the worst type of people – all season long they don’t post a single update or tweet about baseball (let alone actually, you know, cheering on their so-called “team”) but any time the Cubs come up, it’s time to do some bashing! You have to love the attendance card. He cries about Cubs bashing, but then Sox bashes. I guess that is OK.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 06:54 PM) Please. I've just been sitting back enjoying baseball. Unlike the rest of you, my baseball life (and in some of you guys' cases personal lives) doesn't revolve around whether the Cubs win or lose. As far as the nlcs goes, Cubs got bent over pretty good. I said a couple months back that this current Mets rotation is the best I've ever seen. And they get Wheeler back next year. As for the Cubs, they've got more young talent up and down their organization than any team in baseball. You have to be an utter fool to think this is the last we've heard of them. The Mets rotation is the best you have ever seen yet you expected the Cubbies to roll right over them. in 5 games was it?
  4. Fangraphs April 1 projections had no AL playoff team making the playoffs. The highest ranking playoff team was the Yankees, who were 7th in the AL and the first team eliminated. Judging anything by projection before the WS is over and no moves have been made is pretty funny, but it should keep the whiners whining. What, the same roster they finished the season with isn't projected 3 weeks after the season is over to have enough WAR to make the playoffs next year?
  5. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 02:38 PM) Pretty sure Votto would be OK here. This fear of getting absolutely anyone from the NL is starting to get out of hand. I think he would be pretty awesome for a little while. I bet he winds up with the Yankees after next season when Texiera's contract expires.
  6. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 02:17 PM) I don't think the Reds would have to eat any money in a Votto deal. Even though his contract will be a burden, right now he could easily get something similar on the free agent market. He is one of baseball's top talents when he's healthy and if you want that guy on your team, you're gonna have to bid for him. Demanding that they eat a bunch of money isn't gonna get Joey Votto. He would look great in the White Sox line up for a couple of years. It isn't going to happen, but really, the Reds should be trading him now while they can. They aren't going to be good for a little while. By the time they should be ready to win, his contract will probably start to become a gigantic problem.
  7. QUOTE (MindGame2004 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Has virtually no power, so with that said, he's got to have a MUCH higher OBP to utilize his speed. It does nothing if he's not on base. 57 SB with a .274 OBP. That's insane. He cut back on his strikeouts, too. Reds may be going for a full teardown this winter. We'll see. If you are willing to pay Joey Votto over $200 million to play for you his entire 30s, he probably could be had for a song.
  8. J4L must be in mourning right now.
  9. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) It's baseball, s*** happens, especially in October. Remember, we made the Royals look like a little-league team as recently as the beginning of September. Yes. The Cubs turned into the 2015 White Sox. Poor offense. Poor defense. Runners getting thrown out, and falling behind in the first inning every game.
  10. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Mets pitching is special but batting .164, playing bad defense and coming off running through Pitt and (a beat up) Cards team to overcome the "Cards black magic" is definitely a choke. The "ahead of schedule" argument doesn't apply in baseball imo. I wouldn't call it a choke. They played poorly, but I think it probably was the Mets pitching and the eventual regression to the mean. I also think maybe subconsciously, when Arrietta lost, they had to figure they were in huge trouble, and then you try to do too much and that makes it even worse.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:44 AM) Guys, I'm not saying that Samardzija leading the league in runs allowed alone makes him the worst pitcher in baseball. I'm saying that it's one factor as to why there aren't 24 pitchers who were worse than him, as a poster asserted previously. And a list was provided that showed more than 24 pitchers who were worse than Samardzija.
  12. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) Jung Ho Kang was damn good last year. Yes, but this guy's numbers weren't really close to Kang's in Korea. I'm sure a team will take a chance especially considering how well Kang did, but to expect anything near Kang's production is probably really stretching it.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) Mattingly and Dodgers mutually part ways. ESPN says he was offered an extension but had to become someone's puppet so he refused.
  14. QUOTE (MindGame2004 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Where does Don Cooper factor into Samardzija's failures this past season? Wherever he lands, it is going to be interesting to see how he does and what he's throwing. He didn't get along with Cooper. Who's fault that is, we don't know, but I think you probably have to split it. One stat they had during one of the playoff games showed Shark threw his fastball a very small percentage of the time. Bottom 4 in baseball. I also read his slider was a big problem for him this year. He was hit hard vs. it, and in the past it was a put away pitch.
  15. When they changed the bullpens and moved the fences in down the lines, I think the next season it was reported there were 4 balls that were HR that wouldn't have been HR with the old dimensions.
  16. Here's something interesting I read, when the Sox signed Melky, KW said he turned down a 4 year deal elsewhere because he wanted to play for the White Sox. It turns out that 4 year deal was offered by KC, who then signed Alex Rios instead.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) I dont get it, are you just listing guys who are out of baseball? What are you talking about? Humber should have brought back at least 2 or 3 top 100 prospects. Bobby Jenks was just let go. The Red Sox quickly signed him and he was awesome. Crain was hurt and hasn't pitched again since the Sox traded him, but those are exactly the types of guys teams are willing to give top prospects to acquire. Same with Gavin Floyd. Sergio Santos has been a stud since they traded him away. If competent, that's a middle of the order bat that should have come back. The Sox signed Danks then he got hurt, but there is no doubt teams are offering up their better players to bring him in now.
  18. Should have been able to rebuild a team for at least 6 or 7 years of sustained success for those names.
  19. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:34 AM) I'm not denying he sucked, as even his FIP wasn't all that great anyway, but just saying he was far from the worst, there are some really BAD pitchers out there. Justin Masterson didn't even make your list. There are probably dozens more.
  20. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) Saying that because Samardzija gave up the most earned runs means he was the worst just ignores all the pitchers that were rocked and sent down because they didn't have any staying power, like the Hector Noesis and Dallas Beelers of the world. But even ignoring those, here's my list: Kyle Kendrick Kyle Lohse Jerome Williams Jeremy Guthrie Matt Garza Chris Rusin Drew Hutchingson Michael Lorenzen Odrisamer Despaigne Alfredo Simon Chris Tillman Anibal Sanchez Rick Porcello Matt Boyd David Buchanan Shane Greene Keyvius Simpson Kyle Lobstein Sean O'Sullivan David Hale Eddie Butler Felix Doubrant Brad Hand Mike Foltynewicz Matt Cain Josh Collmenter Roberto Hernandez Vidal Nuno Mat Latos You get the idea (that's at least two dozen), but just because Shane Greene only pitched 81 innings before getting the plug pulled on him (meaning he didn't give up nearly as many runs over the entire season) doesn't mean he wasn't much worse than Samardzija this year. And again that ignores all the scrubs that pitched around the league that are not anywhere near good enough to get 30 starts, and if they had they would be on this list too. That also ignores all the damage our defense potentially did to Samardzija this year, considering his FIP and fWAR numbers. Samardzija sucked, but you are totally correct.
  21. QUOTE (shysocks @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) That's exactly his point. The very worst pitchers don't end up qualifying. Samardzija put up a stinker of a year, but he was also 11th in innings pitched, which has value because it means you're not turning the ball over to the Kyle Ryan's of the world instead. Also, since nobody's narrowed it to just starting pitchers and most relievers are just failed starters, I'll suggest that there are dozens of relief pitchers who would have fared worse than Samardzija if you had tried to stretch them out and given them 30 starts. Exactly. I don't understand why non-qualified players suddenly don't count as major leaguers.
  22. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:12 AM) All of the quirky things maddon did in regular season seemed to be exposed in this series as well as the flaws of the team as a whole. Schwarber made a fool of himself in LF. The thing is, baseball goes in cycles. You're hot, you cool off. You're cold, you get hot. The Cubs hit all those HRs vs. STL, and then had to face better pitchers, and a little more pressure. Regressing to the mean is eventually going to happen. It happened. I'm now hearing the spin that this loss will give them some invaluable experience. I'm not buying that. You just can't be great every series, no matter what you supposedly now "know". They had won 12 out of 13 coming in. They were due to take it on the chin.
  23. Their White Sox information couldn't be more wrong the past 5 years. If the White Sox trade Eaton who is signed to a team friendly extension, they will also need to find a leadoff hitter. Unless overwhelmed, the idea makes little sense. A team offensively challenged giving up one of its top hitters to open up a space for a guy based on his 130 or so major league ABs and ignoring his minor league numbers which would indicate the major league performance is a bit inflated, is not borderline insane. It is totally insane.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 07:00 AM) Yeah, didn't Samardzija lead the league in total runs allowed...? That alone screams "you can't name 24 pitchers who are worse than me" Sure you can. Chris Sale gave up more runs than Eric Johnson. I'd take Chris Sale. There are at least a couple pitchers per team that were worse than Samarjdzija. That would make up dozens.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 06:09 AM) Scrubs did something for the record books again. They never led. They fell behind in the first inning every game. It truly was one of the worst team performances in a postseason series of all time.
