  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) If I recall, Ventura didn't have any direct ties to Parent when they were hired. I would guess they identified a language problem on the bench and in the clubhouse, and they need to bring in a bilingual coach. They do have a connection. They might have had the same agent or something, but they were very familiar with each other when Parent was hired.
  2. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:51 AM) Parent was Ventura's hand-picked guy, right? Who fired him? Ventura or KW? Robin is on record for wanting all of them back. One thing to keep in mind is all the coaches except Parent are signed through next season. Parent's deal expires this year. It also does make sense they hire an Hispanic coach.
  3. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) the start of cleaning house. please fire Robin next. please Rick I would find it most unusual to fire the bench coach. Then fire the manager. This pretty much tells you who is managing the 2016 White Sox.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:43 AM) Interesting. I don't see the point with three days to go and an expiring contract. Why not just not renew the contract. What usually happens is they probably told him he isn't coming back and gave him the option to stick it out. At this point, might as well get a 3 day head start on the offseason. He needs to start looking for a job. Unless he has pissed someone off, I would imagine that is how it is. I think they gave all of Ozzie's coaches the choice except Cora.
  5. Who is going to pick up the phone and call the replay guys?
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:31 AM) The thing about Ventura being a yeller...fans don't care about a manager showing emotion on the bench. The media takes this narrative that Robin isn't emotional enough and makes it sound like that's his problem--which it's not. This shouldn't be a tough decision after these three years. I guess with one more year (another bad decision by Sox management), he'll be gone in 2017. Enjoy the shorter lines next year. They don't care? Why was he asked if he had a pulse? Robin's lack of appearing constantly pissed off and in players faces has been posted thousands of times on this board. That's not even mentioning talk radio, where the Ditka style is the way to coach anything. Of course if these same people were chewed out at their desks for everyone to see, they probably wouldn't call it good leadership.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:23 AM) That's a bs media narrative that you're trying to attach yourself to. Don't do that. Parent being negative after poor play. Holding players accountable? Now he's not positive enough? Seriously, the giving bad advice to try to steal a job should show you where Lip's head is. It doesn't have to make any sense. If it's White Sox, and if it's negative, he's taking the bait.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 11:17 AM) If I were Mark Parent, and millionaires weren't doing the things being asked of them, I'd probably be a negative person as well. It is funny, Robin gets ripped for not spending the entire season yelling at players, but now Parent watches these games and is negative. Whiners are gonna whine. It also disappoints me that Lip, a professional journalist, would actually buy that sabotage theory.
  9. QUOTE (DashFan @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 10:21 AM) A Spanish-speaking bench coach? Ozzie? I'd be upset if Robin is given an extension but if Parent were somehow replaced with Guillen, omg the entertainment. I have been on the Ozzie deserves another coaching opportunity bandwagon, but to me, that shipped sailed. It doesn't look like he pursued too much employment while his Marlins contract was still be paid out. Now that it won't be, if he starts looking left and right for one, it indicates to me, he still isn't about the baseball, he is in it for the paycheck. Hopefully, he, like DRose, will eventually be able to reach financially stable status.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) Really? I've been to 20 games and I've seen the HR derby game no more than 5 times. Maybe you have gone when it rained earlier. It was rainy this year and they seem to bag the HR thing even if it rained 2 hours before the game.
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) i agree. there is your built in pipeline to getting fans. I would imagine most of the posters here with young kids probably hit the fundamentals deck every time they take them to a game.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Good point. They've barely promoted it at all or even done the kid HR derby anymore- perhaps it will be gone. There is zero chance they will get rid of the fundamental deck. It is one thing that separates USCF from other parks. Kids love it. I have seen the HR derby most games I have attended this year.
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 2, 2015 -> 08:39 AM) i took his post as being snarky.... nothing more. anyway, aren't fans has the right to criticize the FO??? anyway, when it comes to some really questionable moves or lack of, and then have the owner berate the fans for not showing up.... they deserve this criticism. just b/c of 1 ws championship, does that excuse the org from criticizing them??? for life??? He posted earlier this year how he was ready to give up being a White Sox fan, and has about 1000 posts since ripping JR. If it is so bad, and he is willing to give it up, do all of us, including himself a favor, and give it up. Jump on a bandwagon and be happy. What I don't understand about White Sox fans is why it is now a requirement to make the playoffs xx many times in xx many years, and their has to be back to back appearances...If that was always the requirement, how the hell did anyone ever become a White Sox fan? So people just like to complain. In fact, I think we should start a gofundme type of thing for the 4 biggest whiners on this website. Give them their dream vacation. A week in Detroit, in a zero star hotel, with meals at the worst restaurant included. One week of solid complaining. That would be a dream vacation for several here.
  14. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) OMG - amen, bro! Finally, someone's got it right. For goodness sakes, White Sox fans - don't be greedy!! You got a World Series championship a decade ago - that should last you awhile! I know it's been the only one the fan base has enjoyed in nearly 100 years, but hey, who's counting, right! And no need to be insisting on trying to be competitive enough to maybe, just maybe, get to the WS again. That's just you playing the "suffering" card again, White Sox fan. Don't try it - we are so onto you! And those hard-to-come-by playoff appearances - what are you complaining about that for? We were just there in '08, for goodness sakes! Seems just like yesterday. Oh, I know - only 4 of the 29 other teams in baseball have suffered longer playoff droughts than our Sox, but please, stop. You're complaining. You're a whiner. There's nothing wrong with this situation, you hear? Everything you are exposed to is really a-ok. Really, it is. The Cubs are calling for you. Put your money where your mouth is and give up your fandom. Jerry Reinsdorf is an evil man.
  15. Whether he's 27 or 24, it still is quite an accomplishment. Jose is down about .450 points with his OPS vs. LHP this year or he probably has better numbers than last year. You have to figure that should bounce back, and he should come up huge again in 2016, especially with a better start not only by himself, but by his teammates.
  16. If Brooks is saying the dimensions of the video boards are actually bigger, I wonder if they are getting rid of the billboards in the OF. Another huge change would be if they painted the facades green instead of the current gray. They have the emblem behind homeplate, now another one on the mound. I hope they don't cave an install Wrigley brick to replace the green padding like so many teams have done, in the infield.
  17. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) I love the new video boards, especially the one in CF. I am referring SPECIFICALLY to the pinwheels on top. How does them being digital enhance the fan experience in any way? I guess because they can make them spell out HOMERUN??? They will still be there with the same colors probably spinning around instead of making it look like they are spinning around with white Christmas tree lights. They will still be their colorful selves most of the time. Basically, you are trading paint and lightbulbs for a digital image. They can do even more. T
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Lol, I understand that they are being replaced by digital versions, and I think it's awful. The only redeeming quality about them is that they can change to form words. I'll take the 2015 technology over the 1990 technology every time, except for canned music over the organ, and the videos telling me to get loud, and the deal where the guy says, everybody clap your hands. But to each his own. The fact is, it won't be long before these scoreboards become dinosaurs as well. They are probably bigger and better than the State would have installed had they approved them any of the past several years. It will be interesting to see what effect it really has on the game experience. I went to the Bears game vs. Arizona, and those new boards are nice. I don't think the old ones were HD, but most of the time, except for replays and some dead ball time, they had ads on the sides so it looked the same size as the old boards. It will be interesting to see how they use all 3 of these.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) How am I the only one who is disappointed that the pinwheels will be gone? Those are f***ing iconic. They are still there, just digital, and better than white lights going around those old ones with half of them staying on after a home run
  20. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) he's hardly even a prospect. He'll be 25 in spring and he hasn't been able to stay healthy going on 2 years. When he did play, he was OK with the bat but historically awful at 2B. He's just "another guy" at this point much like Salidino, Sanchez, Conor, etc, etc, etc. Maybe if he had a solid instructional staff to guide him but a lot of sand has already passed through the hourglass on Micah. .315/.375/.466 which almost exactly matched his totals between AA and AAA last year with speed to burn. If the White Sox were playing meaningful games, this surgery would have waited. Write him off, but it is really interesting the players you immediatetly write off vs. the players you think are going to be good. Here's a reminder for all you guys who want rebuilds. It is very rare rookies come into MLB and are Mike Trout or Jose Abreu right away.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) I don't mind this. I'd be mad if it happened to me, but people roll through neighborhood stop signs often, and get used to not having to stop. When there actually are people coming up to the stop they just roll through trying to beat them (and saving an extra 4 seconds on their life) rather than stopping and letting people go through. I also think about these threads when I hear about how considerate and amazing at following the law cars are and how terrible bicyclists are for the world. I totally agree. There are some idiots on bikes, but not as many as are driving cars. Pedestrians as well. I usually Divvy it home from work, and I can't tell you how many times people are walking right down the bike lane instead of the sidewalk and get all pissed off when you wiz past them.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 11:21 AM) Geez, my cousin is a state cop in Indiana and he's never written a ticket to anybody going less than 10 over the speed limit (except for semi trucks). Too bad he wasn't working in Iowa.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) For the same reason I buy preseason tickets, it's a privilege of being a season ticket holder. Although to be fair, while they require a CC number for the playoff tickets, they don't actually charge the card until the game is official. But I do have the tickets in my drawer, just in case. The problem with White Sox playoff tickets for season ticketholders is if you buy them, you can't get refunded on them without losing your season ticket priority. Since WS games are or were 250-275 you have to buy for 4 games, depending on the package you have, you might have a credit in your account for a while.
  24. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 10:59 AM) That's pretty much a given. You could go back all the way to 1901 and I would still think that 2013 was one of the worst years for the White Sox franchise ever. They were absolutely terrible from start to finish. I guess Rodon is a great reward for having to endure that trainwreck of a year though. , Even though they lost more in 2013, I think 2007 was worse. They were losing after 1 pitch that year, had the worst record in baseball most of the year until a late surge lead by the great Josh Fields and Jerry Owens gave them a good September. The next year, Ozzie was an idiot for playing Crede over Fields. September meaningless baseball..........be careful how you judge players.
  25. I think the quote of not concentrating got you the ticket. They could have and probably should have given you a warning especially if you didn't totally blow of the sign. Rolling stop at least is better than flying through. The last ticket I received was about 20 years ago for going 64 in a 55. The next week the limit was raised to 65. I think it is now 70. Just west of the Mississippi on I 80. I almost got one about a year after that for an illegal U turn in Uptown. I was going to a concert at the Riviera with a buddy, and did make an illegal U turn. Go pulled over by a Paddy wagon, but was offered the "alternative" of contributing to their chief's retirement party instead of getting ticketed. That is what I chose.
