Did people really think Kane or the Blackhawks were going to talk about this case? The press conference was predictably ridiculous, and the criticisms will be predictable as well. I do agree with the why have a press conference group. It isn't like you are going to be saying anything groundbreaking.

Athletics at White Sox

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 03:00 PM) Yeah, Tyler has played, but they sure dropped him like a bad habit when someone marginally better came along. I have no doubt in my mind that the top of Hahn's To Do list this winter is a 3B. Probably because Saladino is going to be moved over a few feet. -

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:52 PM) I might be in the minority, but I actually like Olt. His defense might be mediocre, but at least he has some pop, which this team desperately needs. Chances are he sucks, but pre-2013 he was a top 22 prospect, and he plays a position of need, with, like you mentioned big power, another need. I don't understand why some are so upset he's playing in September. If his eye issues are being him, if his adjustments work out, he could be a huge find. If it doesn't work out, who cares, you paid him the minimum for a month to find out. He actually has made a few nice plays at 3B. Some of his throws have been a bit off. If you need his roster spot this winter, so be it, but if you don't, bring him the spring training as see what you have. It probably isn't much, the people not wanting him to play are probably correct that he won't be the White Sox starting 3B, but this is exactly the kind of guy who should be playing right now. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:35 PM) Whenever he runs out a ball to first, he looks like he's about to have his knee go out. He is always grimacing. I know he had some back issues as well. He seems to be able to run straight lines fine, but watching him in between pitches in the OF last night, it seems he was always trying to get stretched out, and did a lot of walking around. I don't think he's fully healthy. -

QUOTE (bjm676 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) Garcia could have trouble in slow pitch softball. Ever since he hurt his knee a couple of months ago, Avi seems to be in constant pain. -

Cut Olt immediately. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 12:16 PM) and don't get me wrong, I love Avi and I think that he still has a ton of potential. There are just a few things he could work on and he'd be a great player. Although I don't ever see him being elite if he can't hit a high fastball. What if he learned not to swing at them?

Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
Dick Allen replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Did he fall into a bad mechanical funk possibly? Adjust his arm angle from pain possibly? He and the Sox make no injury claim so I take them at their word. Did he have problems with Cooper because Cooper wanted to mess with his delivery, or Shark messed with it against Coops wishes? I know it's all speculation but the drop off in velocity is a troubling fact ad I wonder about control. He is a battler out there though and I don't see him blaming anyone but himself. I am sure they have looked at video from when he was successful and try to find differences. Levine asked him if there was any injury and he said no. -
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) As much as Abreu has dealt with nagging injuries in both years, I have no desire to play him at a more physically demanding position. Plus watching him at 1B makes you think Conor Gillaspie probably looks like a good defensive 3B compared to what Abreu would be over there.

Supposedly Kane was told after the Madison incident that he was out of strikes. I don't think it will be immediate, but even if Kane is cleared, I wouldn't bet he is a Blackhawk a year from now.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) The organization has done stuff like this before. They tried to turn Viciedo in playing 3rd. Even Cora couldn't do anything with Fields. I never understood where the Sox ever thought this would work. You might be able to do this with someone is who is extremely talented in baseball but the organization never gets or can recognize those players. They even try this with veteran players playing positions they are not use to and sometimes it effects their overall play. He is the fans' new whipping boy. I wonder if that would be the case if the veterans weren't so unproductive. I think Viciedo was signed as a 3B. Same with Carlos Lee. The one experiment that ended horribly was when the Sox tried to convert KW into a 3B. Not only was he brutal there, he then forgot how to hit.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:22 AM) He is also throwing way more cutters this year and way less 2 seam fastballs. I'm not really sure why the Sox decided to change his pitching style so much or why they haven't tried to have him go back to what was successful for him last year but I wonder if that has played a role in his struggles as well. Seems pretty weird, unless they were trying to prepare him for the inevitable drop in velocity he will face down the road. Whatever it is, it obviously has been a colossal failure. -

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) But it is indicative of what kind of pitcher he is now and that's what is important when considering he is going on age 31 and a free agent. I give Balta alot of credit because he has been pointing out stats throughout the season that show Shark baits regression, namely K/BB rates plus Shark bait has given up a significant amount of hits compared to seasons past. Some of this can be chalked up to USC and a poor defense but we've seen how Shark bait leaves a ton of pitches hanging over the plate and has been hit hard. Just my opinion but Shark bait has already peaked. I will say that I don't think he will be as bad in the future as he has been this year but he will not be what he once was either. His k-rate is down, but about 1 per 9 innings, so not gigantic. His velocity is pretty much the same, so I think the k-rate being down is more of an indication of bad location and/or pitch selection than declining skill. For some reason, he still is a 2.3 WAR pitcher this season. He will get paid, but not as much as he turned down from the Cubs. BTW, for all the Cubs fans on here, think about how much luck was involved in their rebuild. Arrietta comes out of nowhere, the Astros take Appel instead of Bryant, and Samardzija turns down $85 million. Where are they if those go the other way? That isn't Theo being a genius. That is just the way the ball bounced. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:49 AM) I didn't mean it in a bad way. It was something along the lines of "please learn how to hit a high fastball so you can become a star player". It wasn't rude at all. He just can't take criticism. Why should he? For the love of God, why should he provide a platform for you to criticize? Someone sees it, and takes it farther. The block was an appropriate move. Whether you like him or not as a player, at least show him some respect as a human being. Would you like random people you don't know criticizing you on Twitter?

Levine: Ozzie deserves to manage again
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 08:35 AM) i really don't know what went down in miami nor do i care. it is not sox news. but you are right, ozzie does not deserves anything. now lets look at one point i didn't mention. the marlins must have been talking to ozzie before he quit. this was too well planned out. ozzie getting the job right away. so in essence, they both were breaking the rules. the rules that govern the entire baseball for many freaking yrs. here is a question, why does ozzie think he is special to do as he wants. I agree. There is no doubt there was tampering. If KW didn't want Ozzie gone (supposedly he did fire him earlier but JR blocked it) there would have been charges, and I don't see how the Marlins don't get penalized. Ozzie was under contract to the White Sox for another season. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 06:08 AM) He literally just blocked me on Twitter last night because I told him that he needs to learn how to hit a high fastball. Haha. What a jerk he is. You insult him and he blocks you.

Levine: Ozzie deserves to manage again
Dick Allen replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ozzie quit on the White Sox. In Miami, he embarrassed the team with his Castro comments. There was a story that Loria was irked by Ozzie's work ethic, and the team stunk to the point the Marlins paid him for 3 seasons not to manage their team. I don't see where Ozzie deserves anything. -
QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:33 AM) I knew BEFORE I posted that the sale SGA wasnt on the free game list. You just love to ASSume that I want something more than a free ticket. That's what boggles my mind. You are making a value judgement over soemthing that most people don't even care about! I met a guy sunday that bought almost 20 tickets for the star wars event just for the bobblehead. and he left after I made a trade with him. Are you pissed he took bobbles out of some kid's hand? Even though the sox offer was up for months and was promoted almost every homestand on tv and radio? And that the 1200 ticket cap for the promotion wasn't sold out until august? There are guys selling stacks of bobbles and other sga items on this site. are you having a baby over it? Especially when they likely went through the gates more than once? Seriously. Get a life. I just wanted a free f***ing ticket. The grown up who admitted he wanted to hoard stretch Sales is telling someone to get a life. Nothing else needs to be said. The White Sox can arrange this for you . Why don't you take some underprivileged kids to the stretch Sale game with your extras and just tell them they have to give the toys they have handed to them to you?

Dick Allen replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 03:13 PM) Samardzija pitched for the Cubs when they couldn't score him runs. He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before. He has an ERA of nearly 6.00 when the Sox score him at least 6 runs. So even that isn't an excuse this year. He's never been as great as the hype, that is just fact. But he can't possibly be as bad as he's been his last 9 starts. It's not like he's throwing 85. He has just been way too hittable. His locations are horrible. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) I don't have a problem with the Sox hanging on to him at the deadline, but I'm not putting it on Samardzija for the Sox not contending this season or even in the second half. The problem is deeper than the players. Since the deadline he is 1-8 with a 9.24 ERA, in 9 starts. That gets a lot of pitchers a new line of work. If you don't want to give him any blame, giving anyone any blame is silly. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 01:23 PM) I see what you're doing there, but Ventura and the coaching staff still need to go. What I am doing is stating fact. If he pitched average, the team would still be in contention for a WC spot. That really isn't a crazy assumption on July 31st. I am pretty sure if they knew he would be this bad, they would have taken a bag of balls for him, but I think it shows their logic for holding on to him coupled with the reports of fairly weak offers, was pretty sound.
