Sox Fire Mark Parent
Apparently the Sox have talked to Sandy Alomar Jr. about the job.

Sox got back almost nothing from break up of 2012 squad
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 07:33 PM) Arrieta was trash with Baltimore. Cubs lucked out like the Sox did with Quintana. And Shark was merely a result of good timing for the Cubs (and luck that he didn't accept their $80 mil offer). While tanking for 5 years straight, they had an above average starter primed to get a huge free agent payday just before they were about to start getting good. And Arietta wasn't acquired for anyone on the 2012 Cubs. Apparently Theo failed.

The 2012 Cubs got Russell for Shark and Justin Grimm for Garza. Is there anything else?

ALDS: Astros vs. Royals Thread
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) I noticed that he was really quiet when the other announcers were pointing out that the Astros young players were very good at being patient and taking pitches. He was pretty open about his ability not to walk. Carter walked 3 times in the WC game and someone pointed out to AJ he was the first player to walk 3 times in his playoff debut since Frank Thomas. AJ said 3 walks in a game is impressive. He's never done it, and it would take him a couple of months to walk 3 times.

White Sox peripherally make news for Cub Hating
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 12:26 PM) Yep, horrible career he's had. Oh well. Going food shopping this afternoon and yes, I'm wearing my Sox hat as I do 365 days a year. Does that make me a Sox fan or cub hater? Hopefully both. These Sox fan Cubs sympathizers are sickening. It's OK to dislike a team. Grow a pair. Cubs fans who hate the Sox? Who cares? And if some Cubs fan is bothered by my hatred, more power to me. My sister is a Cubs fan. She knows I hate them and isn't bothered by it at all.

White Sox have worked out Eddy Julio Martinez twice or more
It wouldn't have made sense for the Sox to sign this guy and take the penalties unless he was a sure thing. Considering his signing bonus, he is not. If they were over and not going to be able to get guys the next 2 years already, it made a ton of sense, but to blow 2 more signing periods over 1 guy , unless he is the next Andruw Jones, doesn't make much sense. Besides, they probably already have a couple of commitments for the next signing period. Hopefully, they go radically over one of these years. That is one stupid loophole.

White Sox peripherally make news for Cub Hating
So what, Sox fans hate the Cubs. Cubs fans hate the Sox. Go to Wrigley Field the next game and go to any stand outside selling hats and t shirts, and Sox Suck t-shirts can be had at any of them. But they don't care about the Sox. LMAO. The Giants/ Dodgers rivalry started when they were on the East Coast. It was fine to hate the other team then. Why is it not fine to hate the Cubs now? The Sox do play them every year in games that count. They have received a ton more attention for doing less the last 30 years. I encourage every White Sox fan to hate the Cubs. They still suck.

What are Sox good at? Bad at?
QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) Another thing that they are bad at is eating a contract when the player is proven to be sour. LaRoche has no business putting on a sox uniform next year. Ownership knows that he is an automatic out and that there is NO way that ANY fan wants to see him up at the plate ever again. BUT because of the almighty dollar, they would rather pay someone and keep him, (and adding more grief in the fans) than eating a contract that doesn't work and showing the fans "hey we blew it, but we will try and rectify it" (giving the fans some sort of REAL hope for next season.) We went through this with Dunn.....and now because of purse strings, they are going to make us bear through this with LaRoche as well. Is eating his contract the whole answer? Heck No. But at least show the fans that after this past years fiasco (and along with The Cubs being successful) that the organization will do everything within its means to get this team to the playoffs. INCLUDING eating their own pride for the mistakes. Number one priority.....give some hope for the fans and Dump LaRoche. (I sure hope that whoever goes to Sox Fest makes it emphatically known that we do not want this guy back REGARDLESS of what is owed him). In short...I would really like to see this turn into a Sox positive by seeing what kind of (real oysters) the front office has during this off season. They just got done eating 2 years and $8.5 million of Jeff Keppinger.

2015 Playoff Predictions
If the Cubs can get by the Cards, they have a chance since Arietta should be lined up to pitch 2 games at least in the NLCS or WS. He's given up 4 earned runs his last 97 innings.

Good Company eh?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:37 AM) How does it work then? This is my understanding of it. It's more concrete to me on guys coming up through a system and going through the process as opposed to coming over at a later age. He gets what any other guy with his numbers would get first year arb eligible. What I am not sure of, is the cut. I believe they couldn't cut his salary any more than 20% from the previous year, but if they are paying him $11 million or $1 million, his arb number, assuming it would be at least $11 million if he was making $1 million, would be the same if he was making $11 million.

Good Company eh?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) What does he make next season? Because the arbitration raise would be on-top of that. Edit: just checked. His salary is $11,667,000 in 2016 according to baseball reference. For 2017 it is $12,167,000. So his salary going through arb would be well over the $12,167,000. That has nothing to do with it.

Good Company eh?
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 10:29 AM) They only spent about 90 million and lost money? Either way, that’s bound to happen once in a while. My point though is the Sox are not the type of team that is going to go all out and spend big money to try to win it all. Something like the Tigers have been doing the past few years. That’s just not how they operate and I doubt it ever will be. According to Forbes, they made money in 2014, and lost something like $3 million in 2013, but supposedly were counting Abreu's signing bonus in that figure.

What are Sox good at? Bad at?
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) The Sox are bad at...being loyal to their fans. As an owner, the first people you should be loyal to our your fans. You should be wanting to put the best team out on the field at all times with the best possible coaching staff. As a partial season ticketholder, I can tell you, the Sox are very loyal to their fans. The perks for season ticketholders are as Larry David would say, "pretty, pretty, good". You get a big discount on the regular prices. You get basically 3 free parties. A pre season party with free food and drink in the ChiSox Bar and Grill. The season ticketholder party during the season, and something they started a couple of years ago, free game tickets and patio party passes to another game. When you are paying $11 a seat, these are some really nice perks. No team tries harder to sell tickets and has better deals than the White Sox. I think it would cost me more money for the same kind of package to see the Schaumburg Boomers. They send you free gifts. A couple of years ago it was an 83 jersey, last year it was a plaque sort of thing for Paulie. When they won the WS, it was a probably about a 10" high replica WS trophy. They obviously tried very hard to put a competitive team on the field, and spent the money. Sometimes it doesn't work out

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 08:10 AM) The Sox should really try unloading LaRoche on the Pirates Probably would have to eat at least half his money, but not a bad idea. I do think the Sox need to be talking to the Dodgers. Their ability to absorb contracts puts a lot of things on the table. If they will take Danks or LaRoche or both in another deal, let them trade him to Pittsburgh. Puig for Q, LaRoche, and Danks. Decline Alexei's option and think about how much $$$ you have to play with.

2015 Wild Card Games
QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 04:05 PM) This is the stuff that makes me want them to lose. I have nothing against the players. The fans just piss me off. I want to see them lose, but that shirt kind of makes me laugh. For,a fan base who has always said they couldn't care less about the White Sox, it is pretty easy to find Sox suck shirts at just about every vendor around the park.

Roster at 37
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Don Ventura pretty clearly didn't like Guerra. They barely pitched him when he was up. 30 year old career minor leaguers who come in and give up 3 runs in 4 innings, generally aren't given a heavy workload by any manager.

2015-2016 NBA Thread
Cowley trying to stir up a Butler/Rose feud saying an ex-teammate claims while the 2 like each other, J G Buckets doesn't respect Rose's work ethic. If it is an ex-teammate and they are talking crap from last season, it can only be Nazr he is talking to, as everyone else is back.

My/Your Off Season Plan
The Astros drafted so well they were able to pass on Kris Bryant and Carlos Rodon.

2015 Wild Card Games
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) Speaking of which, despite all the talk going around lately about how the NL Central is so amazing, they couldn't even manage a winning record against the worst division in the AL. Not saying the AL Central is better, but good lord am I sick of the NLC circlejerk. There is no doubt STL, PIT, and the Cubs would have good records in the AL, but the best 3 teams in baseball crap is just that, crap. There are a lot of gimmes in the NL.

2015 Wild Card Games
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) So they're sacrificing OF defense to get LaStella's bat into the lineup? What? I saw a Cub loving media member say LaStella was in the line up to get Cole's pitch count up. Expected him to see 24 pitches in 3 ABs. One thing I found interesting, as bad as the White Sox were this season, they were only 3 games worse vs. AL opponents than Houston.

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (VAfan @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) That's what I posted several pages ago on this thread. Watching Houston last night drove it home even more. You can't compete with a lineup made up of 30 something free agents who cost a ton and don't produce better than the young athletic power hitting speed demons that the Astros accumulated by tanking AND drafting position players well. The fact that they are not blaming the manager means they are blaming the players. I expect a very active winter for the White Sox.

Has trayce won CF?
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) This lineup sucks so let's get rid of eaton? Lol The person suggesting trading Eaton, ripped Ventura for playing him, saying he's not as good as his numbers. Now , trading him is supposed to net a 3B and a catcher. That's living in fantasyland.

2015-2016 NFL Thread
QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) From all I've heard he's just simply too weak at this point. I remember Matt Bowan said he was getting pushed around all training camp. I'm assuming they just want him to get stronger. Adam Jahns said he looks like a retired OL who lost a lot of weight. Says he is slight compared to the rest and needs to put on about 25 lbs. If they can get him stronger, it could be a good pick. My dad is friends with Jerry Vanisi former Bears GM. He told him when they drafted Richard Dent, his teeth were so bad, he couldn't eat. They got that fixed and he became an 8th round HOFer. Hopefully, this guy can put on some weight, and not have it slow him down.

MLB in Mexico
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) Yeah, I don't think this will work unless there is massive investment in security measures. Even then, it's probably a long shot. I agree. A friend of mine does a lot of business in Mexico City. In fact, he lived there for several years. It would be a security nightmare. All the people he deals with have money and several bodyguards. Several years ago, they threw out a Mexican city as a possible new home for the Expos. He told me it would never work. I believe him.

Mark Buehrle to retire?
Supposedly, Buehrle had 4 cortisone shots into his shoulder this season. Chances are, he's hanging them up.
