  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 05:12 PM) I don't blame Cooper or Stevenson at all. Get better players. Says the poster who said Hahn's offseason was great before the season started.
  2. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) Why is Steverson considered some brilliant mind? Sans Addison Russell, what hitter has come out of the Oakland organization where he was the roving minor league hitting coach? I follow this board religiously and I feel like I'm the only one to bring up Steverson, and I just don't get that. Why does Coop get a pass on White Sox starter 1st inning problems? Whoever gets designated the punching bag, gets punched. There is no ryme or reason, and now with almost 4 years of managerial experience, the experience card still gets played.
  3. All the Gardy lovers would be complaining about him if the Sox trotted out the same players. It is funny KW and RV get ripped for supposedly not using sabermetrics. Gardy and another Soxtalk favorite, Dombrowski, aren't very well known for using them either. In fact, there is actual proof they really don't use it, while the White Sox supposedly lack of use is based off of a guess, and not reality.
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:05 PM) Tell me, how many division titles does RV have? And Balta, I think they are mostly partially guaranteed on a case by case basis. There's no CBA to abide by. They guy has averaged 95.75 losses his last 4 years as a manager. Robin hasn't done that. And you have already gone from not guaranteed to mostly partially guaranteed in one post. It's not important that you know, but I am quite sure the vast majority of managers' contracts are fully guaranteed.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) There's probably some exclusivity agreement where the Sox could save money if he was hired by someone else, but every coach contract I've ever heard of is guaranteed, maybe with option years somehow at the end. It would make no sense for them to sign non guaranteed extensions. If the team wins, they become more valuable and the price goes up. If they lose, they get fired, plus no guarantee would really give players even more leverage in a player/manager relationship.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:56 PM) Amen. To the Robin supporters ... seriously, we are all in this together. We want the White Sox to win! So please Robin supporters tell me: "Do you really think there is ANY chance the Sox will take the field under Robin's direction next April and have a chance to not get swept in the series opener by a fellow Central Division team" and be able to fare well in the 76 Central Division games? I'm just saying it's guaranteed to be the same ol same ol. He's had enough time. He's blah to lousy. He's got to go. If you can make me feel better about our chances NEXT SEASON under Robin, please do so and assure me. I'm listening. I really am. That doesn't mean the next guy will be great. We already blew it by not acquiring Madden before the Cubs did. Now rectify the error and GO GET GARDY!!!! 63-99 66-96 66-96 70-92 Gardy's last 4 years.
  7. If you are sitting close and nervous about it bring a glove.. You will look like a geek, who cares?
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 02:46 PM) I don't think they are guaranteed, are they? If they fire him he's done getting paid, not like DFAing a player. They are guaranteed. Ozzie is still getting paid by Miami.
  9. Robertson is no longer on waivers.
  10. TFT

Dick Allen replied to Jerksticks's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Avi is actually a really good hitter when pitchers accidentally throw him strikes, and on the rare occasions he actually makes them throw him strikes. There is really no reason to throw him a strike at this point. If he figures that out at all, he can be a force.
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) No one is forcing you to read my comments. I'm positive where positivity is warranted, however this season has been extremely tough to swallow with the FO and coaching staff messing up every step. If you don't want to complain, stop watching. Problem solved. No one is forcing you to keep watching something you think is extremely tough to swallow, with everything always being wrong.
  12. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 10:09 AM) It's unbelievable people are defending Robin when his performance is so far below deserving to be fired. So you are admitting all your posts complaining endlessly about the talent level are just BS. The Sox apparently have plenty of talent to win, it is Robin Ventura holding them back.
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) Surprising because we've heard absolutely nothing regarding us placing anybody on waivers, and with a few hours to go, we hear something. Pretty much everyone gets placed on waivers. I bet Mike Trout has been on waivers.
  14. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 07:21 AM) I don't necessarily want a veteran manager. I want A manager with experience coaching in major-league baseball. I also like one who is attuned to modern thinking and analytics. The front office did a dreadful job last off-season so there really needs to be some churning there too. If you need experience coaching major league baseball to manage, how do you know all that Robin Ventura does wrong. Do you have that experience? It is funny how many people with no experience seem to think this experience is the most critical piece, yet with their zero experience, seem to be able to tell you all that a manager does wrong.
  15. Nothing will happen. Robertson will be the White Sox closer next year.
  16. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 06:24 PM) They were really disappointed in his "man" cover skills. He was making too much money and really needs to be in a primarily zone system. Money didn't play a role as they still have to pay him $4.4 million this year. But he was pretty awful last year. It's nice that they ate the money and are moving on. As fans, we certainly were sold a bill of goods in regards to the talent level with the old regime. A lot of people bought it. As bad as Trestman was as a head coach, Emery was probably worse as a GM.
  17. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:36 PM) When do they bat? Or field? Kris Bryant is a higher WAR than the active guys you mentioned, including Q, combined. Drafted starters aren't pieces. Go look over those drafted position players again. Go to Cubstalk and be happy Cubby boy. You also should take a math class. Sale alone has a higher fWAR than Bryant.
  18. puttimg Trace in positions to succeed is excellent managing. Build some confidence. I think he has made most of his hay in the minors vs.lefties.
  19. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 04:34 PM) To answer the first question: I don't know, but didn't the assistant immediately run for the hills? If this were a regular end-of-year firing, I would fully expect Cubit to be gone, however I understand the Illini do have to field a team. Mark Lazerus just said Cubit gets an extra $400k the next 4 minths for being the #2 guy in the program, and not knowing what was going on. I think all the coaches will be gone at the end of the year, but firing all of them now does hurt the players.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:47 PM) That is the problem with the Sox, one title equals lifetime employment. It is not working no playoffs since 2008. Losers and cowards live in the past. Ironic using Ditka quotes.
  21. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:43 PM) DA I want him gone just saying what is going on in Champaign right now. Which is unfortunate if it works out that way. The AD has already admitted he can't stop this sort of thing from happening, they just have to hope the people they hire do right with their student athletes. And it's not just the football team. If I had a top recruit son or daughter and they were offered from Illinois, I would be hesitant, despite the outstanding academics, to get behind choosing them with this confirmed incompetent AD at the helm.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) KW track record on evaluating talent is absolutely terrible overall. Many teams looked at Abreu, he was no diamond in a rough only KW knew about. But KW got him. Every candidate has warts. One thing KW has is a shiny ring. I know, he got lucky one year and everything worked out, but even if that was true, why doesn't it happen to every dope with a GM title? I am no fan of KW, but you have to give him a world title and he has brought many good players to Chicago. If you are going to remember everything that went wrong, you have to remember everything that went right. Not every team has won a WS since KW's reign began. That said, I think this is much ado about nothing. Why would he go to Seattle and leave his new wife in Chicago?
  23. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Early reports I see Thomas will survive, he is putting this on Beckman claiming he knew nothing about it. Here's the problem with that. He is the AD. He hired Beckman. Beckman had issues at his previous job. The guy running the department needs to know what is going on. If his excuse is being naïve, that kind of goes against his job description. He needs to go.
  24. I have one prejudice about head football coaches. If a head football coach wears a visor, he is a doucebag.
  25. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Hate Mike Thomas but I doubt this was his call. Maybe not, but they had him issue the statement. Maybe his next will be his resignation. It would be in the best interests of Illinois athletics. What is he going to miss when his next hire goes unvetted?
