  1. QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) Gotta think the AD will be brushing up his resume pretty soon. It amazes me he is still there to make this call, and I agree, I don't think he will be interviewing the new permanent head coach.
  2. I think you are playing with fire if the sole reason Chris Sale was to keep pitching was for a strikeout mark. The fact that he had to strike people out could lead to overthrowing or some other mechanical failure. Let him pitch until you are eliminated, then say see you in 2016.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 12:54 PM) Bob Nightengale ‏@BNightengale 40m40 minutes ago The #Mariners want experienced GM,so speculation on: Ken Williams,Kevin Towers,Jerry Dipoto,Frank Wren,Josh Byrnes,Jim Hendry,Pat Gillick. They want experience. Maybe Orsillo is coming to the White Sox TV booth and the Hawkeroo heads to Seattle to be their GM. Mercy!
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 12:40 PM) What's the downside? Decent relative to waiver wire trades. I don't see downside. I just don't agree he should net a decent prospect. Maybe he could net a decent prospect. He also may net a guy we never hear from after 2 weeks of spring training. I wouldn't hold KW or RH accountable if the prospect for Matt Albers didn't work out.
  5. I had 3 Subways within 3 blocks of my home, one was actually really good, but they all closed in the past year. Different franchisees too. The great Subway, the guy who ran it was a Sox fan and would always give you a couple of cookies or free chips if you where wearing any White Sox swag. Maybe Subway was on the downslide anyway. This obviously won't help. I read where there are more Subway sandwich shops than Starbuck's and McDonald's combined.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) Like I said earlier, I will leave the Clintonian definition work to you. I think it is obvious what was meant, but whatever. You can use a political reference all you want, should implies if you don't you failed. If the Sox traded one month of Albers for a crappy prospect who never made it out of A ball, I doubt anyone would say the trade was bad. If they player they received for him was released in spring training, I really have doubts you would back anyone complaining about the return. Should and could are very different.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:48 AM) Does anyone know if Kenny is traveling with the team? If so, it would be an awful big coincidence for this to happen with the White Sox in town. They are in Chicago.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:47 AM) That is what we got back for a month of Gordon Beckham last year. I don't think he was really C level at the time, and he's done OK, but I wouldn't refer to him as a decent prospect. Saying the White Sox should get a decent prospect for one month of Matt Albers is just not accurate. It would be a fantastic trade.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) If you can get pretty much anything at all for Albers, you take it. Odds are it will be the same sort of C level diamond in the rough we have been accumulating for some of our other similar deadline deals. At the end of the day it boils down to the Clintonian version of it depends on what your definition of "decent" is. You guys can argue that part out all you want. I don't even think you would get a C level prospect for him. It is one month of Matt Albers. If they trade him, fine, but unless you want to go to a top 100 list, the player they get back, if they could even get one back, probably wouldn't make the White Sox top 100.
  10. I would be shocked if KW went to Seattle.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) AL Central vs NL Central 51 AL, 48 NL Pretty close. Royals and Cubs have a makeup in late Sep., otherwise the Central interleague schedule is over. The Big 3 in the NL Central are 33-26 in interleague games. Sox were 3-3 vs. the Cubs and 2-2 vs. the Cards. Why are they considered so good and the Sox so bad? These things are so random. You might have your bottom 3 starters face their top 3 in a series. Its hard for me to think a team could be 20-30 games over .500 in one league and just be average in the other. I think the teams that are good in each league would be good if they were in the other league.
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) We've gotten enough wild cards for 1 month guys that eventually IIRC the guy we got for Beckham last year at least wound up in the top 30 list. So you are saying one month of Matt Albers SHOULD net a decent prospect. Thanks. I disagree.
  13. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Call him up when he is out of rehab. Release Beckham and Alexei. Or do a waiver deal for Alexei. Matt Albers too....no reason to hang onto him and he should net a decent prospect. Sanchez at short. One month of Matt Albers should net a decent prospect?
  14. Darryl Dawkins dead at 58. Chocolate Thunder, and gigantic human being.
  15. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Why should we? I like a lot of the people here. Why should I have to go somewhere else to discuss other teams? There's a general baseball board and the most popular topic would be the Cubs. Might as well have a Cubs catch-all thread. Plus, I hope someday the White Sox will have similar success to these Cubs. You came to Soxtalk to discuss the White Sox. I would imagine if one wanted to discuss the Cubs, they would frequent a Cubs message board. I wouldn't go to Cubstalk.com to tell everyone how great the White Sox are and hopeless the Cubs are unless I wanted to get under some skin. I just hope when people discuss the Cubs "success" they use the same criteria as they do the White Sox. As far as I can tell, "sustained success" has yet to occur at Clark and Addision. Obviously this is a Cubs catch all and the Cubs are going to be discussed. I even discuss them. I just think the poster that want to be Cubs fans on Soxtalk are just trolling.
  16. Another huge difference between this and the Kane case is Rose's attorneys are calling this story outrageous. Kane's, as far as I have heard, have yet to say he didn't do anything criminal.
  17. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) One thing to consider, and it may mean nothing, is that in years past, Paciorek often filled in for Stone. This year, Thomas, Rowand, and Podsednik (Podsednik's 3-game stint was one for the ages). Maybe that means retirement via gradually lessened workload, with the team looking at former players to fill in when he isn't there? Just a guess. It was a little different. I just assumed it was 2005 related.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 12:02 PM) By virtue of them being another Chicago team I know their roster and their organizational happenings a heckuva lot more than almost any team in baseball outside of the White Sox. At the very least that gives what they're doing more focus because I already know it. Wouldn't you rather discuss it with people who follow their team and not another? Do you use Cubs themed sites?
  19. I think if there is anything to Orsillo changing Sox, it would be for the radio PBP. Stone leaves, DJ or Farmer to color on TV.
  20. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 26, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) 100%. And there is a good chance it's a money grab, like similar cases in the past have been. I'm just really annoyed by the victim shaming that goes on in these cases, as well as the pedestal that our favorite athletes get put on in times like these. I love watching Patrick Kane play. DRose is the most important piece for the Bulls in the near future. That doesn't mean these guys aren't capable of horrible, brutal, awful things. And just because they wear our favorite jerseys doesn't mean the accuser is automatically in the wrong. Victim shaming happens because not all accused of rape actually rape someone. Here's someone Rose had sex with for 2 years, and suddenly he drugs her, but not well enough that she can't leave his place and get home safely. Then it hits her, and she can't defend herself and DRose and his people break into her place to rape her. No one would buy this in a movie. And then, after suffering for a couple of years, decides to sue.
  21. Unless you are trying to get under a White Sox fan's skin, why would someone go to Soxtalk to praise and discuss Cubs baseball?
  22. Denny McClain's assessment of DD sounds a lot like many assessments of KW http://ferrall.radio.cbssports.com/2015/08...too-many-teams/
  23. No one has a problem when there are 4 or 5 righties in a rotation. Shouldn't matter from the left side. Just put your 5 best out there and don't worry about anything else.
  24. Looking on the intranet, it looks like the Orsillo guy only found out yesterday he was done in Boston. I doubt the White Sox have offered him a job. It is interesting one of his nicknames is Baghdad Bob, as he doesn't like to criticize poor play of the home team, but does seem to get high marks for his broadcasts from most.
  25. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 25, 2015 -> 09:55 PM) He's certainly competent and has been doing the Red Sox for a number of years. Took over for Sean McDonough if I remember correctly. Mark Is he the guy who sounds exactly like McDonough? I don't think Hawk is retiring unless his eye issues are becoming too extreme.
