  1. You never know, the wrong guy gets injured tonight, and the Sox could be selling tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) He's okay and he'd be cheap to get but I hope we'd target somebody with more power. The Sox have Shuck. Revere would be OK, but if the Sox are going to do something, I would hope it would be for an actual need.
  3. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:12 AM) Pitch framing wasn't even a thing until a few years ago. It means almost nothing. It's all about who is pitching to you and the pitchers rep with umps for throwing strikes. When pitchers reps and the inconsistency of umps calling balls and strikes is taken into consideration pitch framing just doesn't stack up as viable. Just because its a sabr-stat doesn't mean it should automatically be trusted as a "thing". Flowers is huge for a catcher and I hardly ever see him handle a ball in the dirt flawlessly. He can block some but is high on the list of passed balls allowed which to me is more reliable than pitch framing. If it is so dependent on pitchers, how come, catching many of the same pitchers, Soto ranks 38th? I do think if they had lasers determining balls and strikes and made pitch framing moot, Flowers probably wouldn't be around.
  4. I do think they will do something, but you can't react to Toronto, you have to do what is best for the White Sox. I think something small happens, but like the comment about how they tried, we will get the something huge that would have blown everyone away was really close.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2015 -> 06:42 AM) It's simple math. Their avg star ranking is 25th in the country with about 6 ships left. He needs to cut or they will end up outside of the top ten for sure and maybe lower. And that includes getting Gary. Did you know that the star ratings in HS really have little to do with guys projecting talent, it is based off whom the player is being recruited. If a guy finished his HS career and was recruited by division II schools he could be a 1 or 2 star guy. If suddenly Ohio State, and a few other big schools decided he might fit in pretty well with the extra scholarship they had in their pocket, he becomes a 3 or 3.5 guy. I don't think one school can make much difference, but a few can.
  6. I think the biggest reason it is quiet is because the Sox weren't exactly in buy mode a couple of days ago.
  7. 1 billion for 15 years is about $67 million a year. Is that really that much these days? It's a little more than 400k a game. Isn't that what the Sox get now on CSN?
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:52 AM) Is Cespedes a Free Agen my after this season? And there is a little trick to him if you want to re-sign him. His contract calls for him to be released, so you would have to re-sign him before he is released or he isn't eligible to sign with the team who released him until May 15th.
  9. Supposedly the Sox were asking more for Samardjiza than Cincinatti got for Cueto, so I believe the report here that there were 2 deals in place were erroneous at best.
  10. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) I'd drop Flowers honestly. Soto can hit at the very least and his defense is ok. Flowers isn't particularly good at anything besides being Sale's personal catcher. You are letting their offense influence your judgement of their defense, just like Gold Glove voters. If Soto is OK defensively, Flowers defense shouldn't be described as anything but stellar.
  11. I love when people rip KW for trading prospects for veterans, even admitting the prospects for the most part weren't very good, but still insisting it has destroyed the franchise, get a thread going like this. Advocating more KW-type moves. If they were wrong before,(which I don't believe) they are wrong now.
  12. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:19 PM) Wonder what they would want for Hanley? Would it take any of the Sox top 3 prospects? f*** him. He plays the OF like he just doesn't care.
  13. The Red Sox must not have practiced covering 3rd in spring training.
  14. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) Because it's complicated. Framing helps pitchers (which probably increases their WAR), and if you include it for catchers then you're double-counting WAR. I think they should either double count it or if it is a catcher skill, take that particular aspect away from the pitcher, and give it to the catcher.
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:03 PM) even if you believe the framing stats as gospel he's not "one of the best". He's above average. http://www.statcorner.com/CatcherReport.php I posted a link in another thread, the Soto thread I think, according to BP today he is 3rd best.
  16. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) What's your argument for him not sucking exactly? He is the 3rd best pitch framer in baseball according to BP. Pitchers like throwing to him. He can't hit, but has had some timely safties. He obviously has his faults, but he isn't as bad as so many, not just here but at games as well where there is always someone yelling to him he sucks, make him out to be. There aren't many perfect catchers around the league.
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) Not sure I get this. We're literally overflowing with RH relievers: Robertson Putnam Petricka Webb Albers Jones Why on earth would we trade for a RH reliever? We don't even have room for Jones right now. An 8th inning tested guy would be nice. Webb has thrown pretty well but his radar can go at anytime. Hey, hey, hey its Matt Albers has been decent but would you really trust him in a game you had to win? And Nate Jones is throwing zeroes but fanning no one in the minors. I think he still needs time.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) Are you willing to risk a shot at winning the AL Central in 2016 on a bet that Avi will learn how to hit next year? I thought you said the Sox are f***ed for the rest of the decade,
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:49 PM) I find it odd that Leury has "L Garcia" on his jersey, but Avisail just has "Garcia". In the past, Avisail had "A. Garcia". If Leury was on the opening day roster Avi would have the A.
  20. Down 6 make the first out at home with a 300 pounder running? If you think the White Sox are a mess........
  21. I am pretty sure if you had to get rid of Danks, Boston would give you Porcello.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:19 PM) Gio/De Los Santos Prior to the 2008 season. So 7 years ago. I would think that really doesn't qualify for what Caulfield stated he has. We know KW traded prospects. He traded s***ty prospects for guys that actually played pretty well, yet many complain. Freddy Garcia for a bunch of prospects. KW won. Gio was about the only guy that was regretful. Everyone else was either really medicore, or just plain sucked, and was definitely no better than what was acquired. Hudson was OK, but he got hurt. EJax was good with the Sox. He turned into Fraser, who turned into Webb and Jaye, so even there, he did fine. I bet AZ would trade you Hudson today for Webb and Jaye.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 03:20 PM) Even though it brings excitement, I still struggle with the concept of the 1 game playoff. Given how long of a season baseball is, seems so arbitrary and punitive to the team that put in all that work and only gets to play 1 game. From a pure entertainment perspective though, clearly exciting and that excitement does a great job kicking off the post-season (especially the way the Royals won that playoff last year). I think that is one of the greatest things about it. It puts a lot more value in winning your division.
