  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:22 PM) One remarkable thing might be...he might have pitched so poorly overall this season that you could legitimately see his price dropping into the range where the White Sox could afford him. Why they'd want him after this season I have no clue. But since I think it's a terrible idea, I assume the White Sox will do it. Dan O'Dowd was asked if he would give Shark $100 million. He said no because he isn't an Opening Day starter. He really might not be a #2, and in 3 or 4 years is probably a #4 or #5 at best. His reputation has always beat his actual performance. He did have a good year last year, but this year's performance shouldn't be a shock. He's been very good a lot, and horrible a lot. Not much domination, and seems to be having a tough time missing bats when he has to miss them. I think they want the draft pick and are probably very happy Samardzija wanted to test free agency no matter what. I'd be shocked if they are willing to go very high for him. And I don't think he is going to get $20 million a year for 5 or 6 years unless he goes on an unreal dominant roll the next 2 months, which appears very unlikely.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) Sox are VERY unlikely to get an offer that is better than the comp pick. Now that we're into August, teams don't have to bid against each other. One team will win the claim on Samardzija, and they will probably lowball their offer. If they need him, maybe the pay. If they don't want to pay, the Sox will at least have something.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) Do you think James Shields's deal counts as a "team friendly contract"? He had to wait until the end of the FA period, he got a lot less than I thought he would get, yet his contract is still imposing enough after only 4 months of baseball that it seemed reasonable for San Diego to think about moving him at the deadline just to clear the contract. That is a bit different. You have to consider the backload, and missing out on his youngest season.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Why, if some team's willing to pay him $100 million this off-season? I will believe it until we see Kazmir sign for more money and years. So you just ignore reality and say yeah they could have picked up those guys for 2 months of him. And Kazmir didn't net Norris and Hoffman. He netted an A ball catcher, who you now have destined for the HOF. Just remember, you were the guy who after 2 years in the White Sox system, when someone asked what the Sox had in Dayan Viciedo responded, Pedro Guerrero. That was before you went all Jay Marriotti and decided every move the White Sox make will be considered wrong.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 3, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) Valencia isn't a "placeholder" if used properly. I always love this used properly line. Has no one used him properly in his career? The guy is on pace to play for the entire AL. He is a placeholder.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 06:36 PM) We'd be better off with Daniel Norris or Jeff Hoffman. Oops. Now someone inevitably will post a critical review of Hoffman despite it being his first month back from TJ surgery...which historically has required 18-24 months to be back at 100% or better. What we need is a link that shows the White Sox could have received those guys in a trade for Samardjiza, which you will not be able to provide. It's your BS posts again. David Price > Jeff Samardzija. It is funny now TJ requires 18-24 months, when you were so giddy earlier this year about Hochevar and Medlin throwing for the Royals.
  7. I don't know why anyone has their panties in a bunch over this. One thing I have noticed is the guys Boras holds out. Morales, Drew, Soriano, Viciedo, when they eventually sign, they are just awful. Injured players miss thwt time and many do OK. But these guys were nothing but bad. I know he has them working out at some academy. He better go back to the drawing board, because they are no help.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) On the particular play you mention still can't see how you come to that conclusion that 3/4 of RF get that ball. 1st of all you have to know where he was starting from. If he was shaded towards center field that's a very long way to go to catch that ball. TV doesn't show you that . Mostly all we saw was Sanchez running out then veering off when Avi came into the picture. And I've seen our OF and opposing team OF trying to get above the fence to rob HR's and most don't because of the padding lip they always hit their shoulder on which screws up their jump. Avi avoided doing that last night. I came to the conclusion because I was at the game and saw everything inclipiding where Avi started from from start to finish. He pulled up at the end for Sanchez. It ahould have been the other way around. Melky has snagged a couple. Eaton has. Shuck has. It is nice that they do and Avi did save 3 runs last night. I am an Avi defender, but as a defender, he is not good.
  9. Shark has to keep the ball on the ground today.it is crazy windy in Chicago right now. Took my dog for a walk and it was hard to walk. Not a cloud in the sky but showers are in the forecast.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 04:30 AM) Big moment in the game came in the 3rd with 2 on , no outs Sox ahead 2-0 and Gregorius hits one to RF and Avi goes and robs him of a 3 run HR. Ends up a sac fly and that 1 run was all Danks gave up but easily could've been 3 . http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/news/article/140...gorius-of-homer That's the 2nd HR he's robbed this year. Avi works the fence better than any Sox OF I've seen in a while. Being as tall as he is helps . I know what the defensive metrics say about him and I see many posters saying how bad he is in RF but are they actually seeing bad defense or echoing the stats ? I watch most of the games and I just don't see a terrible fielder. Admittedly TV doesn't always pick up the jump/read an OF gets or the route he runs . I don't see him kicking the ball around like we'd see with Viciedo and DeAza and robbing HR's is always a big play and possible momentum point in a game. He works the fence well because he has nothing to lose if he doesn't get it. He also is confident throwing, but just about everything else he is very tentative, to the point someone actually accused him of jaking it. That is a lack of confidence. Just last night, Danks last batter was a pop up that dropped down the RF line. I would say at least 3/4 of major league RF make that play, and most of those rather routinely. He has kicked balls, have them go by him etc. just like offensively, he has tools to make himself great, but somethimg is holding him back. When they got him, the Sox thought he was could play CF.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:10 PM) I wonder how much the CG SHO over Houston is skewing that ERA. It would stil be 2.40. Despite what some want to say, 3 out of 4 Danks starts are not awful.
  12. The gun at the park had Danks at 93 a lot tonight. I don't think I have seen that from him simce pre surgery. Except for the walks, he was fantastic. Got some help from Avi and Sanchez, and Melky. The defense looks really good. The offense is clicking. If that continues it should he fun the next 2 months.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 12:39 PM) Then they needed to add a bat. Even a decent bat. No discussion, no debate. They needed to add a bat. They can still add a bat.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) This is rich, no matter what happens, you have a defense for the organization...par for the course. Surely you've scouted all those guys who were acquired and have already deduced they're all going to end up as busts. Since nobody knows the actual offers on the table (and when they were made, Hahn was supposedly ready to fold 4-6 weeks ago), we will never know, all the we can do is surmise. Kind of a pointless exercise, although those who think it was wise to hold onto Samardzija will surely be outnumbered by a 3:1 ratio. Next you will try to spin that their strategy all along was to position themselves at the very bottom of the also-rans, but not far enough out of the race that they couldn't pick off all those players from the waiver wire like Jay Bruce, CarGo, Justin Upton, Ethier, etc. Brilliant! Why don't teams just do that every season? We can play chicken with other organizations and end up with another Alex Rios in 2009...who will help us about half the time and the other half we'll want to strangle him and whose salary will be so bloated it will prevent us from making other moves for younger players who might actually be in their primes from 2016-2019. Both sides of the fence to you: We want them to not waste top 3-4 minor league prospects on a rental but still trade Samardzija and take our chances with EJ if there's no way to do a bigger trade like Puig and 4/5 starter for Quintana. So, in your world, there's only buying or selling, and a combination of both those is way too complex to understand? If you bothered to read, I agreed with nearly everyone we shouldn't overpay for a rental and that we'd probably end up getting someone like Mike Napoli as a waiver claim (albeit too late). Maybe Valencia now, who knows. KW trading Anderson or Montas or Micah or even EJ for Upton/Cespedes would have been insane, especially the first two players. In the end, there's no way in hell that fans will expect much of anything from whoever they draft with that pick...because analysis of all those picks outside of the Top 3 every year shows not to expect much of picks in 20's, 30's and 40's as a general rule of thumb. But we won't really know if it was a bad pick until 2018 or 2019 so perhaps fans won't even care as much by then if the White Sox are actually competing for the playoffs. At least it was entertaining for you to argue the Royals had blown all their chances to compete after this season by blowing their wad on Cueto and Zobrist...somehow KC was the only team dumb enough to pay such exorbidant rates for 2 month rentals. Then tell me what were they supposed to trade for Cespedes or Upton, and link me to the offers for Samardzija. I stated yesterday, ideally they could do both, but you have to have cooperation from the other side. I gave you what Leake cost, why would Samardzija be more? Cespedes would have at least cost Montas, or Eric Johnson and another player because if the offers are the same, Detroit isn't going to help the White Sox.Not one team traded with SD despite rumors. The asking prices had to be ridiculous. So, just tell me what they could have done, without you saying they overpayed or got ripped off. Enough of the jump on the bandwagon of the day and throw as much bulls*** out there as you can. Try to be at least semi-logical.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) It we had Posey or Molina or Yan Gomes or Sal Perez or Matt Wieters or Russell Martin or Yasmani Grandal, nobody would care much about Nottingham. Nottingham has a .525 OPS since he was traded. I know sample size. But don't tell me if the Sox traded Shark and he was the main piece you wouldn't be dwelling on that over and over again. Hanging on to Shark is costing money, but as far as the future of the franchise, it is costing them nothing. You will whine from both sides of the fence. You actually wondered if KW was insane a couple of days ago, then you compalined about the Sox being conservative yesterday. Leake got the Reds a high A pitcher. Cespedes got the Tigers a preseason top 100 pitcher with an ERA below 2.00. No one traded with SD because their prices were insane. This is the best course, and the Sox are currently in good position to make waiver claims as the teams in the AL below them have no reason to block if they feel they are out of it. And I know you will tell me I am wrong because that is what you do. I tried to copy and paste a quote from you one time in a thread you were comtrdicting yourself, but I did it wrong and it looked like I posted it. You started arguing with it. It was hysterical. Arguing your own post. Considering the theme was KW is in charge and he is going to trade any prospect worth a damn for players who won't help the Sox , people should be happy that didn't happen. Now apparently, 2 months of Samardzija is worth franchise changing prospects since they didn't trade him. I know one thing, there is no way you wouldn't be ripping the return if they did trade him.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) The Blue Jays had under 30,000 at home on a Friday night against the Royals (Cueto starting, too) with all of the momentum in the world behind them this week, the trades for Tulo/Price, "best offense in the game 1-6," etc. Just like the Sox, teams that have been losing for many years (going back to the World Series teams in the early 90's), it takes time for the fans to jump back on board and trust the organization again 100%. The Royals only draw more than Toronto and the White Sox on the road. Johnny Cueto isn't a road draw. as I have stated many times, walk up tickets aren't as big as they used to be. Most have their seats far in advance.
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) I'm not for sending him down, but Rodon was lousy last night. Hawk tried to make excuses because of a missed called strike three, but I'm not buying it. His control/command/location is awful. It was a missed pitch and it did lead to the scoring 5 runs, whether thwt would have made a difference last night, that is up for debate. They still got him in other parts of the game. That one pitch though is interesting. If Flowers catches, known as the better framer, does he get that pitch, and does it potentially save 5 runs?
  18. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:51 PM) How many years do we have to appease these f***ing people by keeping a flawed team entact to avoid screams of White Flag!? I would have White Flagged this team even if we were tied for the wild card. However our front office lacks convinction and cares about further affecting an already meger attendance. You make it sound like they turned down an entire team's elite propsects for Samrdzija. What was out there? I would think his return would have been similar to Leake's. Is that really a franchise changer vs. the comp pick?
  19. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 1, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) Care to discuss? Right from the start, most people felt that he could have spent a couple more months in the minors. His WHIP has been in the 1.50 range for 2 months now. His walk rate is absurd, and he's a two pitch starter with poor command on those pitches and no confidence in his third pitch. Throw in the fact that EJ is ready for a promotion, and now with Shark staying, we have the luxury of letting Rodon develop a bit more in the minors. So no, I don't think this is based on overreaction to one particular start. If the moment a rookie struggles he needs to be sent to the minors, there wouldn't be a league. He was awesome the outing before last and has had the typical rookie struggles. He is workimg with Coop on his change up. No need to send him down, and no need to think Johnson would be any better.
  20. Maybe Flowers framing gets the call on Ryan. We will never know, but this gsme is ova.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) a sub-.500 club has no room to complain about moving a guy who's been here for a little more than half a season and will likely be gone by next year anyway They have had a good month. Pulling the plug right when they get back into it is not a good message.
  22. Look what Detroit gor for Cespedes. A top 100 prospect with an ERA under 2.00 plus another guy. The Sox would have had to trump that. It doesn't make sense for a 60 game rental. No one was willing to pay SD prices, so Upton didn't make sense either. Trading Shark, unless it was a deal you couldn't say no is kimd of slapping the rest of the roster in the face. Maybe a waiver claim if they win a couple of more series will make some sense.
  23. Since prospects suck and should be traded for 2 month rentals, why does KW get so much crap around here?
  24. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) If you want to sum it up. The front office just said f*** the playoff spot. That's really what happened here. Exactly. They said f*** the fans, especially those idiots on Soxtalk. Let's piss them off and do nothing and hopefully start a nice losing streak.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) Zero. He will be blocked and a trade won't be worked out to anyone's satisfaction. The only way he could get through is with an onerous contract. Why would a non playoff team block him? And a team in contention might be willing to trade something for him. If not, there's a draft pick which everyone seems to hate, although they also hate signing established MLB players and giving up lower picks than the one the Sox will receive. You don't know the offers, so why don't you just stop this act trying to get the complainers going for just one day?
