2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
If Lester signs with the Cardinals he will win a cy young or two. If he signs with the cubs he will have an ERA over 4 for the duration of the contract and miss half of his starts. I am hoping bro factor Swisher ends up to Addison and Clark.

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) In a perfect world I guess, but I never really saw it as a fit for the Sox at this point, offense and bullpen needs money poured into it. Especially now with the teams involved, Lester is going to cash in big time.... unless you believe Cubs fans that he'll take the veterans minimum to play there and he'll bring cloned versions of prime Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays with him. The already have the cloned Mantle and Mays

2014 TV thread
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 19, 2014 -> 03:51 AM) SOA has redeemed itself (somewhat) for a tepid final season with so much bloodshed you just become immune to being affected...until these last couple of episodes. Juice, Jax and, as always, Jimmy Smits/Nero had some of the best performances of their careers on the show, particularly the two prison interrogation room meetings with Jax and then with Unser/Sheriff Jary. A completely different set of feelings and emotions/reactions from both Jax and his mother than most would have expected at the end of last season. Last two weeks have been really good.

Wait didn't he Phillies give Hamels to the cubs late last season?

White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million
I would like to point out this is a risky move but a good risk/reward and something a team that is looking to contend will do. This is not a ra ra fanfare move but move that will hopefully help to win games. I think weather you like it or not it bodes well for the upcoming weeks.

White Sox sign Zach Duke, 3 years, $15 million
Wimpy will love the signing more than anyone I remember years back thinking Duke was going to be something special, I think he one hit the cub or something. This is an overpay for a need but he should retain a decent value over the life of his contract and can be moved easily if he produces and if he sucks it is not the worst thing. My thoughts are the Sox struck quick as Miller's price tag is escalating. Also could a Coop cutter thing that they like.

The Winter/Spring Weather Complaint Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 18, 2014 -> 09:24 AM) So, not necessarily winter, but can you all remember a more crazy group of events to affect a commute in a single morning? Plane hits house in midway, Fire at a school shuts down all northbound trains (red/brown/purple), bus fire shuts down LSD south, and the travel times were at 1.5 hrs getting through almost every highway. Really odd commute indeed. Nice little crash at the Kennedy Edens inbound merge as well.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 17, 2014 -> 12:26 PM) I used to be that way until the "Best Fans in Baseball" made it impossible to root for St. Louis. The cubs proclamations of being the best fans in baseball is not that far off and the cubs, when playing well, draw incredibly on the road as do the Bears and Hawks. Really is sad the Sox can not get into this attraction with Chicago sports fans.

Russell Martin signs with Toronto, 5 years, $82.5 mill
but the cubs are the clear front runner.

The Winter/Spring Weather Complaint Thread
The great lakes were pretty much frozen solid last winter. I would imagine that impacted how warm they got this summer and thus will not take much to freeze them up again this winter. On the bright side this causes the water level to rise which is a good thing. On pure speculation on my part but it makes good sense to me.

QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 03:44 PM) Anybody keeping up with SOA? Yesterday was the best episode they've had in a while. Yes the story lines were a bit hard to follow but it is coming together nicely.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) If this is your position, that's fine, but you have to be consistent. Concussions and what not really shouldn't be a concern in the NFL because f*** it they get paid. Tony Romo shouldn't have sat out a game for his back because f*** it they're paying him. Cutler should have gone back in the NFC title game because f*** it he gets paid, who cares what happens next. If Rose wants to be 110% healthy at the age of 50 he needs to retire now and sit home and rest up. Where did I say that playing with those injuries was a problem? I was saying that those injuries are problems but the injuries Rose is talking about are not those.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) I'm more referring to a CPA running a professional sports franchise. Doesn't happen very often or at least I don't think it does. I think it happens more than you would think. A good amount of attorneys are CPA's.

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:31 PM) Okay, cool. Whenever this actually happens where Rose sits out a game 7 because he doesn't want to be sore later on, I will be the first to say congrats. But that will never happen. Rose is not Andrew Bynum or Albert Belle and he never will be. There's a reason his teammates love him. It's not because he is a selfish person. Could the argument not be made that he did just this the last two seasons?

2014-2015 NBA thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 01:10 PM) I think you and others that think this is some terrible travesty are unfairly looking at those quotes in a vaccuum and not looking at the bigger picture of his career and where the Bulls are right now. As was pointed out earlier, this is not football or even hockey where the wear and tear on your body makes it tough to move and in some cases live as you get older. This is almost as dumb as the idiots saying 82 games is too many for a season. Yes lets pay you $30M a year to sit out so you can and attend to your son's graduation and outrun everyone in attendance at the age of 40. To me he sounds like a moronic entitled idiot

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 12:10 PM) Completely agree. That said, as a CPA, Phillips is my hero. Cliff Stein should be your hero. Ted Phillips main accomplishment is getting Soldier Field renovated which seems like a failure to me.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Jake @ Nov 11, 2014 -> 02:25 PM) I still haven't heard/can't come up with a great explanation for why the offense has regressed so drastically since last season. McCown's run certainly propped up the season numbers to an extent, but that was only ~6 games. Cutler played much better than he has this year. The main change is that Cutler got a contract - do you think that explains it? I think the league figured some things out.

Nothing major will change from the ownership on down the Bears organization is the same. Some cheap hire(s) will come in with a half assed staff that they rig together and they will suck.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
Here is what I do not get. How did the Bears actually look pretty good last season to looking like this. The only thing I can think of is that teams now are much more prepared for the Trestman offense and in its current form it is easily read. The whole thing needs to go from Phillips on down every hire is now a mistake. This is Emery's third year of fielding players. His talent evaluation is no great shakes and the coaching staff is an embarrassment. Sadly Kromer will need to go as well as a new regime will want their own HC and OC. There is no bright side to this team or positive aspect. There is some talent there but nothing earth shattering. The same excuse of injury does not fly. No football team should look like that team has the last two weeks and expect to exist in any way shape or form going forward. Sadly there will be no admonishment by the organization. Tucker and maybe DeCamilis will be fired after the season and replaced by some other dolts, they will go 5-11 and then they will go from there. The problem with the team currently is nobody worth a s*** will want to work with Cutler and/or Emery.

2014 Cubs Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 4, 2014 -> 04:01 PM) I have a feeling the Cubs are going to be "interested" in every top FA. With that said, they have a chance to be scary good in the next few years if they add the right pieces. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-he...-russell-martin This is the year where you see what the payroll will look like and what cash is available to them. All of the younger players will be paid less while these free agents are paid.

The Republican Thread
At some point the democrats got my email. I seriously get about 50 emails a day from some democratic bs looking for funds. Chicago elections are still horsehit and rigged. I live in Chicago and the city and state results do not seem possible. My alderman got 90% of the vote and the guy did not have a real job prior to becoming alderman. My state rep is even worse and she got 90% as well.

Joe Maddon to manage Cubs
QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I'll take Bochy over him personally. He's a top 5, but I have a hard time saying he's the best. Right now it is Bochy and then the rest.
